Can't use dropzones in FCPX

I've created DropZones in Motion 5.1.1.
I worked with pictures as a placeholder and converted them (purple circle) into dropzones.
I published the template as a generator into FCPX.
As much as I could find out I should see the dropzones in the inspector (Generators/Published Parameters).
But I can't. Did I miss something?
Thanks in advance.

Assume you mean you don't see the drop zone wells in the Final Cut Inspector.
Did you check publish for  Source Media in the Motion Inspector?

It's highly likely, Apple are not in the habit of shooting themselves in the foot and have an excellent track record for handling major architectural transitions (68000 to PowerPC, PowerPC to Intel, OS 9 to OS X etc) but of course nothing can be guaranteed until further official announcements are made. Your existing software however will certainly continue to work for some time yet to come with  compatibility for the existing FCP, Motion, After Effects versions.
Why not drop an email to FxFactory / Noise Industries support?

  • Can I use Video Mornitoring in FCPX 10.1 on iMac?

New Feature of FCPX 10.1.... great but????
Can I use this feature in iMac????   via thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter? or other I/O

There is a difference between "Video Monitoring" and putting your viewer in a second display.
It depends on your needs. If you are editing for the web you do not need that kind of "broadcast" video monitoring.
You can certainly use an iMac with a second display attached via a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. With that setup you can put the viewer or the browser on the second display.
For true broadcast monitor on an iMac you'd need to add a specific device (like those from BlackMagic or Matrox).
But, again, do you NEED that? If you are in doubt, you don't.

  • Can i use fcpx on os 10.8.5

due to other apps i have on my mbp, i'm not quite ready to update to mavericks.  can i use fcpx on os 10.8.5?

No. The only app available from the App Store in 10,1, which requires 10.9.
Consider creating a 10.9 volume on another drive and boot form that. Download to the 10.9 volume.

  • Can I use render files to replace missing media in FCPX

I lost some media, but I still have render files. They are weird files that don't open in any other software and have no filename extensions. Can I use these existing render files to replace missing original media? Or maybe a better question is....what kind of files are these render files for FCPX?

    Hello
I'm not sure at all but first things first. Try simple list of commands in shell :
    #!/bin/bash
    Render -r sw file1;
    Render -r sw file2;
    Render -r sw file3;
Each command separated by semi-colon will be executed one by one.
Unless command 'Render' exits before finishing the rendering, the above shell script should do what you want.
    Good luck,

You probably can but the best way to be sure is to download the free 30 day trial of FCP X and see how it goes.

  • TM backup: can I use two drives to back up data on two other drives?

    Hi to all!
    I have with me a 1 TB/ Thunderbolt EHD [external hard drive], a Lacie 2 TB/FW, EHD, a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD, a Seagate 3 TB/ 2 USB, EHD and [to be purchased] a Seagate 2 TB/ 2 USB, EHD.
I mainly use my Mac for making HD videos using FCPX.
I am planning to use these drives in the following manner as indicated by the table below:
    Drive:
    a
    1 TB,
    Thunderbolt,
    Buffalo
    b
    2 TB/ FW
    LaCie
    c
    2 TB/ 2 usb
    Seagate
    d
    3 TB/ 2 usb
    Seagate
    e
    2 TB/ 2 usb
    Seagate backup
    [to be purchased]
    f
    500 GB, internal
    Macintosh HD
    Partitions
    1
    1
    1
    2
    1
    USAGE:
    editing videos, one
    active project at a time
    mainly for camera
    archives, music files,
    FCP events, projects
    and exported movies
    same as the LaCie,
    as a backup of data
    intend to have 2
    partitions of 1.5 TB each;
    one partition for personal
    data and the other partition
to back up data on the
    Thunderbolt [current project]
    intend to use this for
    TM back up of my
    Mac's internal HD
    applications, documents etc.
    backed up by:
    one partition of 'd'
    by the 2 TB Seagate
    backup 'e'
I would like to know whether I could do these things:
Can I use the TM backup feature in this manner of using 2 separate drive/partition [e/d] to back up data on 2 other drives [f and a]?
Further, I am manually copying files from 'b' drive to 'c' drive; without incurring further expense, can I ensure that whatever I write onto the LaCie [b] gets copied to the 'c' drive automatically?
Any thoughts, suggestions and instructions in these matters are welcome.

    EXT. DRIVES:
    a
    1 TB
    Thunderbolt
    b
    2 TB/FW
    [LaCie]
    c
    2 TB/ USB
    [Seagate]
    d
    3 TB/USB
    [Seagate]
    e
    2 TB/USB
    [Seagate]
    USAGE:
    scratch disk
    [planning to have
    only one active
    project at a time]
    camera footage
    FCPX events, projects
    and completed movies
    Same as the LaCie,
    as it's backup
    To be used as TM
    backup for my Mac's
    internal and also to
    the scratch disk.
    Planning to have it in
    2 partitions: to have
    a 'secondary' copy of
    my Mac's IHD on one
    partition and to have
    personal 'net retrievable'
    data on the other partition.
    'MY
    OBSERVATIONS'
    my projects are usually
    less than 10 minutes
    and hence I trust that
work would be fast and in
    case of drive failure, I
    would be losing only
    one project.
    I am importing camera footage
    primarily into this drive and
    being FW, data transfer is
    fast.
    Am manually copying
    files from the LaCie
    onto this.
    This drive is not a
    brand new one, but
    has been given to me
    by the company's
    agent as a replacement
to my earlier 2 TB drive
    which had failed.Hope
    this also will not fail!
    Because of the 'uncertain'
    performance of the
    3 TB Seagate, I intend
to have a copy of my
    Mac's IHD in one
partition. I intend to place only
    such data upon the other
partition that I will not be
    greatly affected should the
    drive fail.
If you can analyse this plan and give your insight upon this matter, I will be immensely happy.
Further, if this proposed use of the 3 TB Seagate is okay with you, I need to know how to remove the Thunderbolt from doing it's temporary role of TM backup and how to coronate the 3TB Seagate as its successor.
FYI, I would be switching off TM from functioning whenever I am editing video; I would be switching it on only after a full editing session.
Another question on my mind is this: do I need to partition the drive 'e' at all?

  • HT4664 Can I use final cut pro X on " Mac mini" ?

Can I use final cut pro X on " Mac mini" ?

depending on what model: for sure yes, it does!
I did use FCPX on an old MacMini, c2d, 2.26GHz with 8GB Ram (using proxies made editing easy).
My actual work-horse is a MacMini i5, late 2012, 16GB Ram, plus some ext. usb3 drives = perfect for my needs! (costs vs. power)
I'm using two cheap 2.5" Toshiba 1TB usb3-drives, combined with MacOS' built-in DiskUtility as a Raid0 = 150mbps for under 100€ ... not professional (=raid0 contains a small risk of data loss), but again: best €-vs.-HP ratio

  • How to use x264 with FCPX

I used the automatic installer for x264.
There were no instructions on how to use it with FCPX or compressor.
    Can someone offer a tip?
    Thanks
    10.6.8

Youn can't use it in FCP, only with Compressor. In Compressor make a new QuickTime preset or duplicate an Apple preset and change the codec to x264.

  • Better to use Aperture or FCPX for import?

I am starting from scratch with FCPX. I have a MBA with a portable thunderbolt drive, and right now this is my primary. I have an older 2008 iMac, and this is my workstation I use for everything when I am at home. I'm on the road more than at home and do most of my FCPX work on the road.
I use Aperture (and iPhoto) primarily for media management. Now that it imports movies from my camcorder and DSLR, it's really the primary app we use. A huge side benefit is the disk savings offered over importing everything in iMovie.
Are there any drawbacks to just using Aperture for importing? I can still use these videos, and convert them to prores, etc. with FCPX as needed for video projects, correct?
85% of the iMovie (or now FCPX) stuff is just to share it online, send to family, etc. But the 15% of the projects are important ones, which is why I'm investing in FCPX. I don't always know when I import the footage if it is going to be included in an important project or not. Housekeeping-wise, it seems like the best way is to use Aperture and avoid the large files until I need them in FCPX.
Seems obvious, but I know little so far about FCPX.
    Thanks for any insight,
    Jack

I come from the video end and I feel that it's best to import video into a video application and stills into a stills application. If you import the video into Apeerture you still have to get it into FCP. You then drag the video into FCP to edit it. You're doubling up the file, because FCP will want it in the event folder not the Aperture library. When you drag a still into FCP it will remain linked to the Aperture library. Currently FCP imports the JPEG thumbnail from Aperture not the RAW file BTW. If you want the RAW image you have to export it from Aperture and bring it into FCP.

  • Alternative ways to use NAS with FCPX

So here is my dilemma, I would like to use my NAS to have an "archived" library of all my video files that I've worked on in FCPX. Thing is I've tried opening the library file directly from my NAS, but FCPX will not recognize it.  It give me an error something that I have to use "SAN"...  I've read some other threads where you can create sparse images but I don't want to have a set size as my "archived" library as it keeps growing.  So I guess my question is, are there any alternative ways to utilize my NAS with FCPX. I want to be able to easily access these "archived" files every so often. TIA!

Youn can't use it in FCP, only with Compressor. In Compressor make a new QuickTime preset or duplicate an Apple preset and change the codec to x264.

i think you confused us with the question 4 times!?
you can use Motion aas a stand alone app, which can output quicktimes to any codec you want, which can then be used in any app that accepts these codecs. But you wont be able to (AFAIK) import a motion project into iMovie and use it as a clip like you can in fcpx

  • I can't use the function of "print to video".

I've recently purchased FCPX and Blackmagic Design Decklink HD Extreme 3(version 7.5.2) but I already know this combination looks quite weird because I'm using only DSR. This is the first time I have installed FCP.
I installed FCPX and figured out there's no way to get the video from Decklink on FCPX so that I deleted FCPX, installed FCP 2009 instead and installed FCPX again on the same disk as Final Cut Pro 7... It's a shame to get rid of it.
At first, I could get a good result when printing to tape. There's no problem. But it's not long before I failed to get what i wanted. VCR detects input signal from FCP 7 through Decklink but the monitor of VCR shows only noise. For now, I can't use the function of "print to video".
Also, I connect the input of Decklink to the output of DSR and the output of Decklink to the input of DSR at the same time and monitor w/ the output of DSR. However, the output on the monitor shows something weird when I capture the video from DSR as if the signal is fed back.
Someone told me that I have to use other version of decklink but i'm not sure it would be better if I just change the version.
    What's wrong?
What should I do for fixing these all mess?

  • Encoded my surround files in compressor and now need to author to DVD. What software can I use?

I've created my AC3 file from my 6 surround audio files along with my video in compressor. What software can I use to author my surround video to DVD? I have FCPX but I don't have DVDSP or toast. Any suggestions?

Although I don't use it, I'm pretty sure Toast will treat the file properly. (But I would go on the Roxio forums to check.)
If confirmed, that would probably be your lowest cost solution.
Otherwise, if you know someone who has either Final Cut Studio or Adobe Production Suite you could use DVD Studio Pro or Encore.
    Good Luck.
