Can't use Gift Card Apple ID to set up allowance

I'm trying to set up a monthly allowance for my daughter. She already has an Apple ID (just a nickname, not an e-mail address) from using a gift card, but when I try to enter that in the allowance form, it tells me it's not an existing AID. However, I am able to log into her account using that ID.
Am I missing something? Or do I just need to create a new account using her e-mail address and scrap the other?
If so, what happens to her balance of less than 99¢ from her card? Do I resign myself to donating that to Steve's kids? Obviously not a big deal, but if every gift card recipient goes through this, Apple's keeping a lot of money that belongs to someone else.

According to Apple, payment methods accepted include iTunes store credit, credit cards, and debit cards. Presumably this means that if you redeem the gift card to create an iTunes store credit, the upgrade would be charged against this credit. If you want to confirm this, call the Apple online store at the number shown at the bottom of this page.

I downloaded songs to my playlist before entering two gift card credit numbers. I thought I would have an opportunity to put them in before end of transaction. Can I undo the charge and use the $20 gift card total?

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store and ask, but my guess is that they'll say that it's not possible to reverse the charge to your credit card and charge your now-present credit balance instead.

Yes, they do. I'm looking at it right now. They don't offer anything other than apps, podcasts and the iTunes U, though.
Regardless, again, you are not allowed to use the US iTunes Store from outside of the US. You'll have to purchase your music via some other resource, and will not be able to use iTunes Match (which would be available only if Apple had agreements to sell music in the CI).

In order to have an account in an iTunes Store, you need to have 1)a valid billing address in that country, 2)have a credit card billed to that address or an iTunes gift card purchased in that country and 3)you need to be physically located in that country.
So, you have two problems. According to the Terms of Sale, you can't use your Canadian account when you are in Costa Rica. And, if you open an account in Costa Rica, cards bought in Canada wont't work. You'd need to buy gift cards in Costa Rica.

Yes, I thought of that one too, but hoped that there was a way to use the frensh one.

Can i use a USA apple gift card in the UK

Hi please can i convert my apple gift card that i bought in the US. Is it possible that i can use the gift card in the UK, or perhaps i you can convert it. I've had this gift card for almost a year since i got back from US.

Expanding on what Niel said, you can neither use that card in the UK nor get Apple to convert it (and we're all just fellow users here, by the way). Give or sell the card to someone in the US.
