Can't use Graphics Processor for Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8

Hi,
I just got a fresh upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro (not beta) but then I can't use Photoshop that well. In the Preferences > Performance, I can't tick "Use Graphics Processor". I have an ATI graphics card and yep, I've already tried upgrading/reinstalling my graphics driver, even installing old ones -- and still, this doesn't solve my problem (even in its control panel, I can't seem to see the settings of the graphics card!)
Any ideas/suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

What display driver have you installed?  And what is your card?
The ATI Catalyst 12.8 driver release claims to be compatible with Windows 8, though I haven't tried the combination myself yet.
Did you install Windows 8 as an upgrade or a clean install?  The latter is always preferable.
I know a secret registry incantation that will force Photoshop to use the OpenGL subsystem no matter what, and I've used that to get GPU acceleration in a test installation in a virtual machine, but rather that put that forth just yet let's find out if you've done all you can the "above board" way first.

  • Can you use Graphics Processor? What is your GPU?

Please answer if you can use graphics processor on Lightroom CC and which is your computer config, if possible.
    I have a Radeon HD 6870 running with windows 7 64bits and I can't use graphics processor.
    Thank you.

My Lightroom 6 installation initially wasn't using the GPU:
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit
    DirectX version: 11.0
    GPU processor:  GeForce GTX 745
    Driver version:  335.58

    Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
    Version: 3.3.0
    Renderer: GeForce GTX 745/PCIe/SSE2

I then updated the NVIDIA driver:
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit
    DirectX version: 11.0
    GPU processor:  GeForce GTX 745
    Driver version:  350.12
After the update, LR6 reported success in finding the GPU:

  • Bug? Can't Drag and Hold Mouse Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8 RP

I am having a few problems with the current Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8RP.
At first it was only the tilit shift and iris but it turns out it's everything to do with when you need to hold the mouse button and drag. It seems that the problem is isolated to Photoshop as other Adobe programmes are working fine plus other programmes and Windows generally is also fine.
I am using an Nvidia GTX580 with Windows 7 drivers until the proper version comes which is late of course!
Plus, I uninstalled my Intellipoint and keyboard drivers too and connected a generic mouse via USB and I still get the same problem.
Weirdly though, every (let's say) 20 times I try to drag and hold after constantly restarting Photoshop it works once then I have to try again a load of times by restarting the application.
    Any ideas?
    Joe

I'm running photoshop cs6 on windows 8 RP 64 bits and haven't seen that problem
and i didn't see that on the consumer preview either.
This is the driver i'm using:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-64bit-296.17-preview-driver.html
Just watch that windows update doesn't try to sneak in there own driver.
It happened to me twice until i changed the automatic updates to notify
and also watch that doesn't happen with your monitor profile as well.
The updated Nvidia drivers for rp are supposed to be released sometime this coming week.
Do you have any third party plugins or do you have the scriptlistener installed?
Did you try resetting the photoshop preferences or difference modes under the Advanced setting for the the graphics processor under preferences>preformance in photoshop?

  • Graphics card for Photoshop CS6

    I have the p6112p desktop
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01756863&cc=ad&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
It has an onboard video card-- Intel GMA 3100. It appears that I can  PCI Express x16 graphics card as well (which seems to automatically [?] shut off the on-board video card?).
I recently loaded Adobe Photoshop CS6 to my computer. When I try to use some of the features I get the error: "This feature requires graphics processor acceleration" and then recommends I check this feature in my CS6 preferences. When I try to check that box it is grayed out & says: "Photoshop detected an error in your display driver. Please update or reinstall your driver."
My driver is up-to-date & I'm guessing (this I have no other problems) that my graphics card is just too weak.
According to Adobe's website here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html
"The Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) represents features that use video card processor, or GPU, acceleration. In Photoshop CS6, this new engine delivers near-instant results when editing with key tools such as Liquify, Warp, Lighting Effects, and the Oil Paint filter. The new MGE delivers unprecedented responsiveness for a fluid feel as you work."
They also list some cards that have been tested. Anyone know if I'm the right track? Do I need to add a better card? I don't want to spend a lot-- CS6 is already costing me $200. What card should I get that will work & fit.  BTW, my computer has a 300W power supply (which I'd hate to have to replace as well unless I have no options).
Thanks so much for any help anyone can offer.

    Hi,
If you followed the troubleshooting procedures and other suggestions listed at the Adobe link you provided then I would try a video card.
This EVGA GT 430 will work with the 300 watt PSU in your PC and it's in the Nvidia 400 range certified by Adobe.
The on board video processor in your PC doesn't support OpenGL 2.0.  You need the G35 chipset and your PC only the the G33 chipset.

  • Graphic Cards for Photoshop CS6

I have been using photoshop CS5 and just upgaded to CS6. Now I get a message that my graphic processor card is unkown. My computer has an Intel family graphic card. This card was supported in CS5, and I can't find a list for CS6 compatible cards. Do I repalce the intel card or wait for a future upgrade?

Well, to be straight: You can probably wait for support for intel chipsets until your hair falls out. Sorry, but intel chips are notoriously full of hardware bugs and come with the most atrocious drivers, so chances that this will ever work properly are extremely slim, even if there may be updated drivers one day. Therefore the only logical course of action is to buy a dedicated graphics card from NVidia or AMD/ ATI. Even one from the 50 Euro budget tray will be better than anything you could ever hope to achieve with an intel onboard chip.

  • What is the minimum Windows Experience graphics subscore for Photoshop CS6?  to be efficient?

A friend has a low-end laptop with a graphics score of 3.4 and is experiencing issues attempting some filters. My laptop is reflecting 6.9 which is likely overkill, but I am wondering how to advise on what the minimum system should be.
If the Windowxs Experience graphics score is a poor predictor of minimum system graphics requirements, what should one look to for guidance?

Some of CS6 newer features require a GPU and openGL.  You friends low end machine most likely does not have a supported GPC video chipset so GPU and Opengl will not be available for Photoshop use. This means some CS6 will not be available on your friends machine. Most Photoshop features do not require much when it come to video graph. The ones that do will not be available on your machine like oil painting filter. The filter will not be listed on his machine as far as I know.  There is a list of tested GPU on Adobe site. Care must be used when reading the list thye do not go into details when it come to mobile laptops.

  • How to go back to using my paid for photoshop CS6 after trial version of CS6 extended?

I have no idea how my copy of CS6 became a trial version of extended but now the extended trial is done and it will not allow me to access my original photoshop CS6.  What to do?

I figured it out.  If anyone has this issue just enter your original code from your photoshop CS6 in the trial code box and adobe will switch back to original photoshop its that easy.

  • Where can I find the file for Photoshop CS6 Extended?

I bought this one earlier this year, and need to move to a new computer, but don't have the file. Where is it located?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    you can dl here, http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
or if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Can i use my license for one work computer(windows) and my personal computer(Mac)?

As the title says. I's it possible? After what i could find i'ts possible if both computer are running the same OS?

To run that on a Mac, you'd have to first install Windows using Bootcamp or Parallels or similar.
Then install CS6 in the virtual Windows environment.
With the Cloud version, you can install natively on either Mac and/or Windows without any operating system specific issues.

i just found out that there is an overscroll option (pulg-in) mac user. so i'm wondering if there is a plug-in or workaround for window users?
i would really love the the option of being able to overscroll on my image without having to first zoom in and still be able to stay in standard screen mode.

  • CS6 Use graphics processor+Laptops/Nividia Optimus - incompatible in Win8 since Nvidia 304.79 Beta?

    Hi.
In Photoshop CS6 the layers are not displayed at all if using Nivdia Geforce drivers 306.02 in Windows 8 64-bit.
If I revert back to Nvidia Geforce drivers 304.79 (Beta) - it works fine - the layers are now displayed.
I've posted this as a bug feedback to Nividia - and now I'm also posting it to Adobe here.
The laptop system uses Nividia Optimus hybrid graphics and Photoshop has been setup using the defaults (PS profile from Nvidia) to use the Nvidia card as High Performance Graphics. Photoshop hardware acceleration does not crash with either driver set - except since 304.79 Beta the layers are not displayed. So something has changed with Nvidia after the 304.79 Beta release, i.e. a bug - or Adobe has a bug in its implemention for DirectX with hard acceleration.
    Regards,
    Computermensch

Nvidia has just updated their drivers for Win8 and Notebooks to 306.97
I can confirm that Use Graphics Processor in PS CS6 now works with Nividia Optimus
BTW To the guy just above who put a question in this thread about Nividia Optimis and PS6 - but about symptomatic errors message from IE when using YouTube - and has an Nividia chip.
Nividia does extend IE with addons. Sounds like you should test for your system for virus or other similar bad configurations in your system. The error messages you receive from IE are not standard. Or if they are, then IE is telling you have malicious software installed. I.e. In any case, you have malicious software - you system is infected ... you have software making your system malfunction ... clean it up

I get the following message when I open Photoshop: Photoshop detected graphics hardware that is not officially supported...which asks me to "uncheck the use Graphics Processor...but there is no Graphics Processor to check ?????? What do I need to do? I have ignored this in the past and Photoshop seems to work OK but still I wonder why this opens every time I start Photoshop. Thanks for considering my question.:>)

As you can see use Graphics Processor is NOT checked. Now what? And a special thanks for answering me about this. :>)
