Can't use Handwriting - Dakota font

I'm using a French system and the "On the Road" theme uses the font Handwriting - Dakota. The problem is that I can't type an apostrophe (')! Instead, when I do I get an accented i (ì) which makes the whole thing quite useless! LIkewise, I get all sort of strange characters when I type accented characters.
HELP!
iMac G5 17   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Thanks G but Tom is right. I can't use the font at all because the accented characters don't work and I obviously can't use another font just for them.
And I can understand the 16$ price tag argument but still, I just can't see how Apple's QA let that by. I mean, even English writers sometimes use accented characters. This is a bug. What I don't know however is if Apple is really responsible for it since the font could have been used under licensing agreements from another company.
The thing that puzzles me most is that all the characters are showing in the Character Palette, they just can't be inserted! Maybe there is a utility somewhere that can fix or edit the unicode assignment of the glyphs within the font file.

  • Handwriting Dakota Font Can't Be Used in Mail

For years I've been able to use "Handwriting Dakota" font in mail. Now whenever I select it at the top of the New Message form the font immediately reverts to "Helvetica 14" (my default font - set in Preferences) when I type the first letter. This seems to be a new problem since 10.8.2.
I can get "Handwriting Dakota" and use it by setting it as my default font in Mail Preferences, but this is an unwieldy process that isn't required for any other fonts I know of. What's the problem? Am I missing something?

Although old post, I wanted to reply with my working solution for others who experienced similar problems.
Last week, while everyone else was upgrading to OS X X, Maverick, I was upgrading from OS 10.6 Snow Leopard to 10.8 Mounatin Lion.
In attempting to use Handwriting - Dakota font, I experienced the same restriction. Although available in TextEdit, Word, and Pages, for some strange reason I could not change my font in Mail.
My work-around was to compose in TextEdit and copy & paste the text into the Mail email/message. The change holds.

  • How can I use brandon grotesque font in muse?

Hi, I wanted to use brandon grotesque font in muse as it is a web font in typekit, but i cannot find it in the "web fonts' section in Muse, how can i bring it from Typekit to Muse?

Mark the text you want to assign to the font.
    Access the Text drop-down box.
    Select Add Web Fonts.
Muse will open up the available Fonts through Typekit.
Select the font, double click to import.
Note: the font you want to add doesn't exist in Muses' Typekit library.
I am not sure if you can add a Typekit font that is outside of Muse's library.

  • [SOLVED] Can't use ttf Windows fonts in Libreoffice

    Hi all,
I've been a relatively amateurish Arch user for about two years now, so I do know my way around the wiki and AUR, but as far as I can tell I'm the only one having this issue. I dual boot with Windows 7, and need to be able to display and use the ttf fonts from Windows 7 on my Arch partition, especially when I'm using Libreoffice. Now this has always been pretty easy. I've simply used the ttf-win7-fonts package from the AUR, but for some reason that package is no longer working. I've also tried manually installing the fonts per the instructions on the wiki, but to no avail. No matter what I do, I just can't get Libreoffice to recognize these fonts. The cursor simply blinks as I pound away on the keyboard, and no new characters are added to the document. Something that may be relevant: My graphics chipset is an ATI HD 4350, so I have to use the [catalyst-hd234k] repository for my video driver and [xorg111] for my X server. And yes I have added the font paths to my xorg.conf file, and updated the font cache as user and as root.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nibbles
EDIT: Forgot to mention that the fonts are displaying just fine in other apps. Tried the following, and it didn't work either.
    pacman -Rs libreoffice
    pacman -Scc
    pacman -S libreoffice

I did try that, actually, even though those aren't all the fonts I need. It didn't help. Maybe I should take this over to the libreoffice forums?

  • Can I use adobe illustrator fonts for commercial purposes?

    Hi,
I have purchased adobe illustrator CS4. Does this mean I can use any of the fonts installed in the program for commercial purposes?
I am currently doing a t-shirt design and want to use the font Verdana in the design. I plan to reprint and sell this t-shirt indefinitely.
    Is this legal?
    Kay.

you can use the fonts you can even send the fonts to the printer you can certainly use them on the web, when you send the font it is usually only for the convenience of not having the Print House load the fonts, but since most font hoses have illustrator it is not a problem they have the fonts as well.
They only keep the fonts with your job if you send it. For instance if you send them a project with a font that is part of their font library hen they will ask you to send them even if another client has  or is using that font. if they get 10 or so instance were the same font shows up and they think it is a trend they buy the font as a convenience for their customers. You can not distribute the fonts to other user not even free fonts.
But sending it part of the job is fine, printers have no interest starting up with the large foundry houses and they understand the copyright laws and would put themselves in a bad light if they broke this ethic so it is not going to happen for $30.00 for a font.
You are fine you bought Illustrator and so you have a license for them.
One difference between the fonts you get from Illustrator and and the ones you purchase is that the ones you purchase are allowed to be installed on five machines usually and the fonts that are included with Illustrator can only be installed with the copy of Illustrator, technically that means two machines.
But the way it works since you can install the same Illustrator on as many machines as you want but can only activate it on two an use on one of those two at any one time it is possible that you would be in violation of your license since the fonts do not need Adobe activation to be available for other applications.
So it you're doing that then you're a felon buddy!

  • If I use a web font in my website can I use the same font for printed materials such as business car

I am a graphic designer intending to design a portfolio website in Adobe Muse. I plan to use TypeKit web fonts to design my website. Upon completioin of the website I intend to design business cards and my resume to match the look of my website. I would like to use the same fonts as I used on the website. Is it possible to use web fonts for printing purposes? If not, what do people typically do in this situation. The last thing I want to do is use a font that "looks" like the ones used on my website.

    Hi redsoxfan15b,
(I think I may have replied to your Typekit Support ticket earlier today, but I will post the same information here to be certain.)
We have recently added a new feature to Typekit that allows you to sync fonts to your desktop and use them in print design. The announcement on our website has more information:
    http://blog.typekit.com/2014/01/16/the-fonts-you-love-from-typekit-now-on-your-desktop/
Font sync is available on any Typekit Portfolio, Performance, or Business plan.  Here is a list of all the font available for desktop use:
    https://typekit.com/fonts?licenses=desktop
We are continuing to license more of the library for desktop use, but for now you should confirm that the font you would like to use it available for both web and desktop.  And if there is a font you'd like to use that isn't available for desktop sync, you may also be able to purchase a license directly from the foundry.
I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions!  Best,

  • Can't use Cambodian unicode font

I tried to create a new page in Dreamweaver 8 and attempting
to use Cambodian (Khmer) unicode font, but it does not show all the
upper and lower script. Even though I changed the New Document page
and it still does the same. Anyone has any idea?

When I try to use Symbol font and display it in
    JLabel, it show a square.
i have read the article written by John O'Conner
    http://www.joconner.com/javai18n/articles/TextDisplay.htm.
Much of that article is now incorrect or unnecessary for JDK 1.5. Because 1.5 knows how to find a font for the character you're trying to display, you should be able to set your label font to any logical font, and the JRE should find a substitute font if necessary that can display the character.
I'll give your code a try and will post results...is the code you've posted the code I should actually experiment with? It seems like you should want to display something different than 0x0065.
    Your other questions:
0x0021 is the exclamation mark regardless of font. I see what you mean, however, since the wingdings font in charmap also says 0x0021. However, that mapping is obviously not a Unicode code point mapping.
I looked in the Misc. Symbols and Dingbats section of Uncode. A few characters might be a reasonable substitution for the pencil character you want:
    0x270E (LOWER RIGHT PENCIL)
    0x270F (PENCIL)
    0x2710 (UPPER RIGHT PENCIL)
I didn't see any mirror images of these, ie LOWER LEFT PENCIL and UPPER LEFT PENCIL, although I admit that I didn't look closely.
Maybe one of these will work for you instead of the Wingdings 0x21 character you mentioned.
    Regards,
    John O'Conner

  • Can't use X logical font description of a font

So this is a really weird problem I am having. I installed this font: https://github.com/powerline/fonts/tree … rceCodePro
And copied all the .otf files to /usr/share/fonts/misc which is a directory in my font path. Now, some applications, like termite (my terminal) and vim can use the font(s). But programs that require a X logical font description can't find it.
It doesn't show up with xfontsel either.
I've appended the fonts.dir and fonts.scale files of the directory I've moved the fonts to, according to the fonts.dir and fonts.scale files in the github repository. I've done fc-cache -vf and I've done xset fp rehash. I'm really at a loss here. Any ideas would be highly appreciated, this is really annoying.
I've also had a look at this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=14854
But I've tried the suggestions there and they didn't help.

berbae wrote:There is an AUR package for these fonts: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/otf- … rline-git/
You could use it instead of manually installing the fonts.
Before doing that, undo what you already did in your file system with the source files of the fonts.
    Did that, doesn't work.
I have, however, found a package in extra that contains the Source Code Pro font, which isn't patched for powerline compatibility. This font does show up in xfontsel, but without a preview and software like bar (bar-aint-recursive) is unable to use it. I have no idea what is wrong...

  • Can't use my own font due to license restriction?

I created my own font ("GoudyMusic") using fontlab.com | TypeTool3. When I try to 'print' to a pdf using Adobe PDF, I get:

%%[ Error: GoudyMusic cannot be embedded because of licensing restrictions. ]%%
%%[ Font vendor (Macromedia) does not permit this font to be embedded in PDF. ]%%

Text may display incorrectly on platforms that do not have this font installed.
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: show; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets  º %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

    Help help!
    THANX!

Apparently fontlab.com's TypeTool3 does not allow you to set licensing, and it defaults to 'not-embeddable'.
You have to upgrade to Fontographer (another $300) to be able to set the licensing. Now that I've done that, it works.

  • I'm using the same font in all my pages but one particular page is blurring and substituting other text.

I'm using Handwriting-Dakota font, which I found out is quite temperamental. I did what someone on here suggested and went to Preferences>Show text imaging indicator. and that fixed all my problems. Now I added a page and the text is all messed up, blurred and stretched sometimes and other times substitutes other text on the page for that box.
I haven't done anything different on this page and even deleted it and started over again but now it's worse than before. This is the only page that is doing this so I'm not sure what to do.
The messed up page is the media page at http://www.intimateopera.org/intimate_opera/Media.html
The main page is http://www.intimateopera.org/intimate_opera/Intimate_Opera.html and from there, once you click the picture all the other pages are fine.
Does anyone know what I can do?

Do a Command A on the page to make sure that the text images and the other images are not overlapping or touching.
You do realize that by turning all your text into images the search engines will see your website as having virtualy zero content with nothing for them to index?
Try to use web safe fonts for the descriptive text and save the images for special occasions like one heading per page or the header.

  • Can't use Web Fonts in Photoshop, but can in Muse

Hi, I'm trying to use the same font I use in Adobe Muse on an image I'm creating in Photoshop CS6. In Adobe Muse, it was easy to add fonts by simply clicking "Add Web Font" and it opened a browser for me to select from many web safe fonts. Love this feature, by the way. In Photoshop, however, I do not have the same fonts listed and can find no place to get the fonts. I've tried downloading the fonts and putting them in my font folders but they do not show up on my list and they are web safe fonts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The font is question is Delius.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi, billlywjr73,
Right now you can't use Typekit web fonts in Photoshop.
From the Typekit help, "Typekit only permits web-use for the fonts in our library, so we can’t provide you with a version of the fonts you use via Typekit to download and install. However, each font detail page includes a link to where you can buy an installable version of the font from the font’s designer/owner."
On the Photoshop community forum, Jeff Tranberry says it's something on their radar but no ETA yet.

  • How can I use web fonts I purchased?

I purchased Avalon from Font Spring (http://www.fontspring.com/fonts/fontsite/avalon) and it came with web fonts.
How can I use the web fonts I bought with Adobe Muse?

    Hi,
An update: Adobe Muse CC 2014.1 (released earlier today) includes support for self-hosted web fonts. To use a specific font in your Muse site (such as the Avalon that you purchased from FontSpring), you will need to install the system font (properly licensed for desktop use) and provide the corresponding web font files (properly licensed for use on a website).
Give it a try and let us know if you need help or run into issues.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek
