Can't use multiuser audio and video chat

Hi:
I need help urgently!
My boss tell us to set up an 3-way video chat platform . as the requirment says,we use a PowerMac Dual 1.8 GHz G5 to be the host. and the other two computers are ibook G4 1.2GHz. but we just can video chat on and one,can't do it as 3-way. the strange thing is we can only audio chat with one person too.

It's also best to make sure your set-up is working correctly by testing with a known mac user that has no issues. This way you can troubleshoot where the issue lies.

Audio and Video Chat problems

I have a G5 at home and have a MacBook Pro on the road and I am trying to video chat with my finacee (me using my mac account, her using an AOL IM account). We can text chat and send files through iChat, but if we try audio or video chat we both get the following error message. We both tried a test buddy (appleu3test01) and it worked fine, but we still can not chat with each other. I don't know what else to do.

OT: What viewers do you need to use ALL audio and video files?

I had a lot of trouble with audio and video files on my PC. I
now have a
MacBook Pro, which is a big improvement. But I still
frequently
encounter files that I can't use. I try to open them, but
Apple doesn't
know what to do with them. For example, I often encounter
unusable
videos while perusing news websites. I also have some audio
files with
.mva or .mvw extensions that don't work.
So what viwers/players do I need to download in order to be
able to play
every audio/video file that comes my way? iTunes handles .mp3
files, and
I also have QuickTime installed. I just viewed another video
after I
installed a Flash plugin. What else do I need to install?

How can I combine the audio and video files from youtube downloads when they don't automatically combine?

I'm using YouTube Video and Audio Downloader. Sometimes the audio and video files combine automatically, sometimes they don't - remaining as separate " DASH - .m4a and DASH - .mp4 ". It used to be that when this would happen I could open up a "ffmpeg" window which would allow me to "manually" convert them to a combined .mp4 file. It was a "drag and drop" type of interface. For some reason I can no longer access that ffmpeg combining function. I tried clicking on ffmpeg.exe. I tried re-downloading ffmpeg several times, both from the Downloader options tab and from the ffmpeg website.

Why can I not burn audio and videos together as audio cd anymore? her

My Mac Book Pro used to ask me if I wanted to mix (burn)audio and videos together from a created ITunes playlist.... now it dosent and when I burn the Playlist it dose not burn the videos audio as before.

Audiobooks from Apple are a once-only download.

IChat - audio and video chats not working to the UK

I'm trying to do an audio and/or video chat with my Mum who lives in the UK. We're both using the same version if iChat A/V (3.1.5)
However, we've been unable to succesfully connect. Whether she invites me to a chat or I her, we both get a message saying the other person failed to respond, even though we're both accepting the invitation.
I have no problem audio/video chatting to anyone else and it also work with my Mum through Skype or Yahoo Messenger.
Any ideas?

Buddy won't stick - Audio and Video chat problems

Grateful for advice on a group of problems - possibly related...
My setup -
iMac, OS X 10.5.6, iChat 4.0.7
AIM account
Testing iChat between my iMac and daughter's MacBook.
Problem 1)
I log in on AIM account - can see status of my daughter who I have added as a buddy.
Daughter cannot add me as a buddy - tried when off and on line. She tries to add my buddy name and it flashes then disappears.
Problem 2)
Both logged in, I can invite her to join a text chat with daughter and she can respond.
If I invite her to join an audio or a video chat, my screen says it is waiting for a response from <her screenname>, she receives a message saying "<my screenname> cancelled the invitation".
Other information
I have created a second account in iChat using my wife's screenname and password. Neither of these problems occur. I have compared settings in the Preferences -> Accounts window between the two accounts and they are the same.
All works OK over bonjour, but I need to get this sorted before daughter moves away in a weeks time.

Methods b) and c) should prevent any mispelling of the (Screen) name.
She will now have to check her Block and Allow lists
These are in iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > Security tab.
There are several options.
The Allow Certain People options is only active when chosen but will block anyone not in the list (Makes them appear off line but she will need to see if the Off Line Buddies (Show Menu) to see those).
If the Block Certain People is selected then those names are permanently blocked even if they are not in the Buddy List But she would not be able to chat with you and you would not see her as being Online.
If you are set to Invisible then she will get the same symptoms but you will appear in the Off Line List.
It may pay for her to delete her com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
It is in the Home Folder/Library/Preferences
Drag it to the Trash and restart iChat.
ON the Modem front.
You have a Router/Modem combined device that is also Wireless.
There is no other router.
By default most Netgears do UPnP. This means Port Forwarding or Port Triggering that is offered by some is not active (And does not need to be)
On the WAN Page of the set up pages they tend to need to be "Allowed to Respond to Pings on the WAN Port" (this is the Wide Area or Internet side port/socket/jack to the outside world)
On the same Page I would also suggest Stopping the DOS or SPI Filter that is mentioned.
Effectively the Macs should show in System Preferences > Network the IP something like 192.168.0.2 for you and 192.168.0.3 for her and the "Router IP" as being 192.168.0.1 from both. (I say "Router IP" like that as it is in fact the Modem's IP on your LAN)

Can't burn imovie with idvd & can't keep the audio and video clips to ancho

Two questions:
I've been working on a series of short digital stories in iMovie and have been trying to put them on a dvd. Using iDVD wasn't successful. Couldn't get them loaded into the map on the DVD theme page. So I dragged finally gave up and dragged the iMovie filesinto the DVD icon on my desktop and burned them. But now I have to drag the iMovie file from the DVD onto the harddrive before I play them.
I would like to have all of the short movies in one DVD.
I would also like to have one longer iMovie file but I'm having a devil of a time making all of the files, audio, video, photo, etc. stay in place while I'm working on each section. Perhaps this isn't feasible?

Were you dragging the project file into the right place? Try a simple theme like the Portfolio Colour theme under the iDVD3 collection. By the way, the simple thing first, I hope you were using iDVD5 not iDVD4.
There can also be problems if the iMovie projects were created in iMovie4 and converted to iMovieHD. If this is the case load each one again. Make some simple change, undo if you wish, then save again.
In any case try using file > Import and note what happens. I think this (old fashioned) way is easier than gragging in the projects. You can tidy them up later.

Screen Sharing, audio, and video chat not working with certain people

My ichat application will suddenly stop working after just a few seconds of starting wither screen sharing, video chat, or audio chat. I get the error message "No data has been received for the last 10 seconds." How do i go about fixing this?

This message can be caused two ways.
1) a loss of Internet Connection through a Physical means.
(turning Off Airport card, Pulling out Ethernet Cable, modem or router failure, loss of service from ISP)
2) A router or modem Software intervention.
This most commonly happens in Video chats. The device has a feature called DOS (Denial of Service) which with modern Internet Speeds and Video Streams gets to the threshold where it cuts in. It requires that you turn the feature Off as there is not adjustment in the threshold at which it works.
A similar feature with a similar result is SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection).
Having said that, it very unusual to have it effect Audio only chat or Screen Sharing.
This means the issue could be at the Buddies end.
NOTES:
iChat creates Logs of Connection Failures of which there are about 5 types, caused by various issues in the connection Process.
The 10 Sec Error message covers those things where the connect End but iChat did not receive a "BYE" message (a controlled End to the Chat) or get a failure of another sort.
Basically you were connected properly (even if you did not hear or see the Buddy) and so other event cut the connection that was not iChat related.
Can you do Video chats with any of the 6 names in Table 1 ?

That will exclude a Modem or Router Issue with DOS or SPI on the remote end.

Audio and Video Chat not working?

I know that several other people have asked this question but I still can't fix my problem with iChat. I've successfully had a video chat before but tonight, when I attempted to video chat with a friend I recieved the message, "[my name] didn't respond" multiple times. I'm not sure what's going on since I've been able to video and audio chat before. Any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem. Not a week ago, I was able to successfully connect to any computer on our home network (7 other machines), a friend in Massachusetts, and another, in Lousiana. After a router swap (same make and model, Linksys WRT54GX4) I recieve the '(I) did not respond' message. I have tried everything imaginable, DMZ on, DMZ off, route forwarding for every concievable combination, firewalls for my friends and I off, still no dice. They've tried downgrading to AIM 5.9 from Triton, but it still flatly refuses to work. It's a bit annoying, since my girlfriend lives 300 miles away, and my brother is in China..it'd be nice to talk to one of them every so often.
Ah, yes, just to throw a further wrench into the mix, I can connect to all three Apple test accounts with no problem, but any other test account gives me the connection problem

User "not responding" when trying to audio and video chat

Hello everyone,
I know there have been many posts here about this topic - to be honest I've tried everything and thought starting a clean thread might be the way forward.
Basically when I try and do a video (or audio) chat with Australia (or my dad up the road for that matter) we get the message that I didn't respond. Previous to system updates our iChat had been working without a glitch for well over a year.
I'm using iChat V3.1, I have had firewalls both open and closed, opened the suggested ports, tried my powerbook hardwired via ethernet cable aswell as through my AEX. Even tried my laptop on my father's network (his iChat 2 works fine) and still no joy. Through doing all this I have eliminated both my Speedtouch 510 and my two AEX's as being the cause. So something to do with my OS I'm sure.
If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

Can I use a nano and video on same iTunes computer and library?

If I have an ipod Video and I currently download songs from my iTunes to iPod, is it possible to just select a certain folder in iTunes to have put on my husband's nano. I was told to just changet he preferences in iTunes but do I need to do anything with the nano before doing that...it is still in the box!
Thanks in advance...I just need explicit directions so I don't mess this up.
I might try setting up a different user name for him and transfering my library into his but I am not sure if I can do that...

You never edit within a clip. The purpose of opening a clip is to make sync adjustments, audio equalization, color correction, stabilization, things that you might want do overall to the master clip before you edit it. You edit the portion of the clip you want from the browser into a project. There is really very seldom any need to open a clip into the timeline.
