Can't use my own font due to license restriction?

I created my own font ("GoudyMusic") using fontlab.com | TypeTool3. When I try to 'print' to a pdf using Adobe PDF, I get:
%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: GoudyMusic cannot be embedded because of licensing restrictions. ]%%
%%[ Font vendor (Macromedia) does not permit this font to be embedded in PDF. ]%%
[Warning] The font GoudyMusic could not be embedded because of licensing restrictions.
Text may display incorrectly on platforms that do not have this font installed.
%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: show; ErrorInfo: CharOffsets  º %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Help help!
THANX!

Apparently fontlab.com's TypeTool3 does not allow you to set licensing, and it defaults to 'not-embeddable'.
You have to upgrade to Fontographer (another $300) to be able to set the licensing. Now that I've done that, it works.

  • Won't embed font due to licensing restrictions

Trying to work with the Chinese font provided on a MAC called HeitiStd, however when I try to make a PDF I get the error message: won't embed font due to licensing restrictions.
Any idea how to work around this?

Thanks for the help. How do I get the font to re-install? It came with the computer. Is it on the original disks? Should I contact Apple? (I'm on a MAC).
Thanks for not treating me like an idiot and telling me to "use another font". That's pretty obvious and of course I tried that first, but the "other fonts" didn't show all the characters! I knew about the outline too, but needed to be able to edit the PDFs.

  • Can I make my own Fonts?

I'm wanting a truly unique marketing approach for my band. I've picked up a Wacom Bamboo and have Leopard with the Inkwell feature that let's me write in Pages for band flyers, etc.
But what I'm wanting to do is to create my own "A,B,C, 1,2,3" Font that has the bands' look to use in any iWork application - especially Mail. I just want to know if it's possible and if anyone out there knows how to do this and then import it into the Font Library for use. Thanks all in advance, I'm not sure if this was the correct forum but I did get the idea from wanting to use my own Fonts in Pages projects.

"But making fonts is not very easy, and custom fonts are pretty useless for mail or web pages, unless you turn your text into graphics, because people at the other end will not see your font unless they can get and install it on their own machine."
Apple Safari 3 is able to display the intended SFNT Spline Font file - Apple TrueType 1, Apple TrueType 2, Microsoft OpenType.
The SFNT Spline Font file format is divided into a primary and a secondary mapping. The primary mapping is supported by the CMAP Character Map tag (with one or more tables).
The primary mapping is a 1:1 automatic mapping from character codes to default glyph codes, which is insufficient for formal typography in the Latin script.
Therefore, secondary mapping from default glyph codes to glyph codes for alternate stylistics is included in extensions to the SFNT Spline Font file format, version 1.0, 1990.
Apple's extensions are assembled in the MORT Metamorphosis table and Microsoft's extensions are assembled in the GSUB Glyph Substitution table.
Apple Safari 3 should support simple line layout available through the CMAP Character Map table common to all three flavours of the SFNT Spline Font file format.
Caveat: At this point I have not had time to test the reported feature.
There are two type design tools today, Fontographer which has been the mainstay of type design on the Macintosh for many years, and the newer FontLab which is the first type design tool to implement the Apple TrueType spline programming language natively.

  • Even with "Allow pages to use their own fonts" enabled, firefox sill dictates fonts on some sites. WTF.

I built my website to show some work I did, everything was fine in firefox 3.6 but i upgraded today and now the font styles i wrote into the page are being overridden somehow.
Yes, i checked allow pages to use their own fonts.

That should work unless the specified font is missing or corrupted and in that case you need to (re)install that font.

  • Can I use my own sound files as contact ringtones?

Can I use my own sound files as contact ringtones?

yes - you can use GarageBand for this.
    Open GarageBand
    Create a new project
Insert the song file from iTunes. (Go into the Finder, select ~/User/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library and find the song you want.)
    Drag that song into Garageband.
in Garageband - click the Share menu, and Send Ringtone to iTunes.
You will then have to select which 40 second portion of the song you want. It will create it, and send it to iTunes automatically.
    In iTunes
Select Preferences. Click on the General tab, and make sure that Ringtones has a checkmark beside it so that you see it in the list on iTunes.
When you hook up your iPhone, you will be able to select the ringtone(s) you want to sync.

  • Display problems with allowing web pages to use their own fonts, both on and off.

I refer to the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" option in the Content > Advanced tab of the Options menu.
When I have this option unchecked, allowing my font choice to override the default non-image generated text for web pages, it seems that many icons and buttons on numerous sites are replaced by some sort of hex code malfunction. They appear as small boxes with four characters inside. I'm sure someone knows the official term for what these are and why they occur.
When I have the option checked, however, any non-image generated text on numerous websites appears as an ugly Stencil font that I simply cannot find the origin of. It should not be and clearly isn't the default font for all of these different sites. By "non-image generated text", I mean any text that is not incorporated into the design of the page.
This issue has persisted through several full re-installs. Any insight into a solution for one or both sides of this problem would be quite appreciated. Thanks for reading.

You would have to remove (uninstall) or reinstall the Georgia font if it is currently corrupted.
You can use the System File Checker to check for missing and corrupted font files.
It needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt.
Open a cmd.exe window as Administrator:
    Start, click Programs, click Accessories
Right-click Command Prompt, and choose "Run as administrator"
    Click past the UAC Screen
After the cmd.exe prompt, type: sfc.exe /scannow and press Enter

  • New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS.  FiOS does not use modems.  Your cable modem is useless with FiOS.  Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers.  The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet.  The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports.  If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet.  For slower speeds, coax is the default.  Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work.  Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay.  If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time.  You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models.  The Verizon routers are good devices for most users.  People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down.  You can't run any other router firmware on them.  WiFi range is decent, but not great.  I'm quite happy with my Quantum router.  YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want.  However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router.  They won't even mention it as an option.  That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service.  If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one.  If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues.  This will allow you to call their support. This FAQ is very helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 Good Luck.
