Can't use phone abroad - help!

Hi
So here I am in sunny Mexico (very hot!) and am totally unable to use my mobile which is on a 4gee contract. I checked before I left and the website said I didn't need to do anything, that my phone would work okay. I purchased the 120 minute roaming calls plan, and thought all would be well.
However, my phone totally refuses to connect to any phone network over here. Why?? What is wrong? How do I fix this? I can't call them (no phone!) and I'm not on Facebook or Twitter. What do I do???

No, I didn't know I had to as the website said I didn't need to do anything! I have looked in my account but can't find any setting to do with enabling roaming?

Apple does not unlock phones. The carriers do. Once unlocked the phone can be used with any SIM that will fit in your phone. Contact your carrier.

It works nicely over home wifi, but for example, i am sitting in my car, phone is in my pocket and I'm using the iPad, call comes in and i don't want to start digging for my phone.

well yes, but it basically makes wifi for the other devices, it basically mimics wifi.

it would be common sense to make it work this way also. directly from device to device. no bounce between WiFi router

Do you have location services turned on? See Settings > Privacy > Location Services
In any event Maps can be used to obtain directions by supplying the start and end locations after touching "Directions" in the upper left corner.

I just had the same problem. And I found the solution, on Youtube.
The problem is that these ******** at apple designed the battery compartement, the distance between metal contacts too big.
That means the batteries plus or minus poles are not touching the corresponding contacts in the mouses battery compartement.
Most likely the battery doesn't get pushed up to touch the plus contacts.
I used a fingernail to push the battery up and tadaa, the green LED came on.
The guy in the Youtube video just put some folded aluminium foil under the minus poles for bridging the gap.

Using N95 abroad, help?

Hi,
I got my N95 about a year ago, and last summer I took it to France with me.
While I was there I couldn't connect to any of the French networks. All of my mates could with their phones but the N95 just didn't want to allow me to.
Is there a setting you have to adjust or do you have to notify your service provider if you want to use your phone abroad?
I'm going to Finland a week today and need to be able to make phonecalls while I'm there!
Any help would be great!

you need to notify your provider in most cases.you may be told to rome on a specific network when your away you can look at your network settings and either manually choose the network or the phone will select one.

New Desktop Software is asking for password - which I don't think I ever had now can't use phone either

     After downloading the new Desktop Software, it won't allow my BB Curve 8520 to connect w/o a password - I do not believe I ever had a password on my desktop software and it is threatening to delete my data if I don't enter correct password ;;;
     also now I can't use my phone because the same message is coming up on my phone asking for a password - I did have a password on my phone but that password is not working for the desktop software and now I can't use the phone password on the phone - it is asking for some other password which I don't have -
     is there some way to have the password sent to me - I don't want to loose the contacts and other data on my phone and the Desktop

Just make sure you are typing the right password when DM ask you for it. What I mean is that if your password include numbers you must type in the corresponding letter on your computer keybord...
It's is a common mistake...
Now, is your phone asking you for your password or for a SIM card PIN? If you entered your password too many times as the phone was asking for a SIM card PIN it is probably asking for a PUK (sometime called a personal unlock key). Call your service provider tech support, they are the only one that would have your SIM card PUK to help you...
Until you reach them you can always remove your SIM card (assuming that's your problem...) to be able to use the phone (assuming you're in North America on a CDMA network...).

Can't use phone during charging

Can someone help me. I have a Treo 650 and whenever I put it on the charger, the phone can not be used. A few seconds after I take it off charge, it is back to regular. Is this the normal reaction whenever the phone is charging?

This is not normal at all. The only thing I can think of that could affect this would be a 3rd party app or some sort of Firmware/ data corruption. The only suggestion I have for you is to try a hard reset. By doing a hard reset it will erase all data on your device and restore settings back to default. For further information and instructions on resets please visit kb.palm.com and look up article number 887 in the Solution I.D. search field.

The use of Touch ID requires a passcode, & the passcode requirement is set to immediately. I suspect you don't have things setup properly. Read here:

Make an appointment for the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple Store if restoring doesn't solve the problem. If the phone is under warranty and there is no water damage or severe physical damage the phone will be replaced. If it is out of warranty or damaged the phone will be $199. This is the case in the US. This is actually a pretty good deal because it is equivalent to a subsidized iphone price.
