Can't use scsi scanner?

I have a Sharp JX-320 scanner. I've been using it on an older Mac, but I want to get rid of some clutter and use it on my Mac G4 OS X Tiger.
It shows up through System Profiler (see profile below). But when I try to scan, either through Photoshop's scanning plugin or through VueScan, the scanning utilities are unable to find the scanner. This happens whether I work in OS X (using Photoshop 7 or VueScan), or in Classic (Photoshop 6)
The scanner is plugged in to the scsi card, is the only thing on the chain, and is terminated. I can't really figure out what the scsi device number is, or how to change it, if that might be the problem.
What's going on? Is there any way to get the scanner to show up?
SCSI Parallel Domain 65536:
Initiator Identifier: 7
SHARP JX320 SCSI:
Manufacturer: SHARP
Model: JX320 SCSI
Revision: 071I
SCSI Target Identifier: 4
SCSI Logical Unit Identifier: 0

Well, I only tried downloading the VueScan utility since the Photoshop plugins aren't working. I couldn't find my scanner in their unsupported list, but I didn't really expect it to work. (I was testing for an OS X native scanning utility, but it's not worth paying the $50 to license the utility when I can get a USB scanner for about the same cost.)
Unfortunately, this computer won't boot in OS 9: I can only run OS 9.2.2 in Classic.
In PS 7 my plug-in doesn't work. It doesn't even show up. Which is about what I'd expect. But I can't find an OS X plug-in for PS 7.
In Classic, I've tried it both in PS 4 and PS 6. The utility opens as it always has on my OS 8.6 and OS 9.2.2 Macs. But when I try to scan, I get an error (GPIB Device "DEV7"not found).
Any idea why the scanner would show up in System Profiler, but not be found by the scanning utility?
Any idea if there's something that can be done to "fix" that?
Any idea where I could get an OS X plug-in for Photoshop 7 that might work with this scanner?
Thanks for any advice or help.

  • Can I use this scanner?

    Dear all,
I am considering getting a DocuPen RC800 scanner (see <http://www.planon.com/>). The scanner apparently needs a download, and cannot use the (Windows) software supplied (see <http://www.planon.com/drivers.php>, about 2/3 the way down the page).
I haven't a clue what all this TWAIN stuff is about, other than it's some sort of scanner standard. Therefore, I would be grateful if someone more knowledgable than me can answer:
    * Can I use the scanner?
    * Assuming yes, in what format would I get images out?
    * If something non-standard (by that I mean not jpg, tif, gif, etc.), what application should (could?) I use?
I'm not that fussed about OCR at this stage, but it may be useful in the future. The first step is getting images!
I have the applications Apple supplies, plus Microsoft Office 2004.
I hope I've been clear. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Phillip
No Preview can't as it is only a picture viewer.
Any image application that can import photos, will often have the ability to import a scanned image like Photoshop for example. Photoshop Elements is one that i can personnaly recommend and it is a fraction of the price of the full blown version.
Also Microsoft Office, which you say you have, but I don't know which version you have and if it has the ability, you can check that out yourself.
Here is a list of graphics application for Macs ranging from freeware to commercial.
I haven't gone through it extensively but there are a lot there.
    http://www.pure-mac.com/graph.html
Also check out what is available at the Apple Software site. Most of these are not Apple products but are third party applications, and some of them are very good indeed.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/
There are very many applications that can use a scanner, ranging from cheaper basic jobs to high end professional setups.
So have a browse, and I hope you find something suitable and affordable.

  • Cannon MP830 can't use the scanner function after upgrading to Mavericks.

I have an Cannon MP830 and now I can't use the scanner function after upgrading to Mavericks.  Can someone help?

There is no ICA driver for this model so you won't be able to use Image Capture or Preview. But there is a TWAIN scanner driver and the supporting MP Navigator application available for 10.8 from Canon, so you could try installing these and see if you can scan again.

  • Can't use Hp scanner ap.

Can't use Hp Scanner ap.  Get the following message:
    Scanner reported an error
HP Officejet Pro 8610 is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later.
I can scan using the Printer & Scanner Ap in System Preferences.  Also my MacBook Pro can use the Scanner Ap.  Hp says its a Mac issue.  Anyone else have this problem?

    Hello there JDB38,
If you still havent bveen able to use the scanner, I would recommend using the troubleshooting in the following article to help you resolve that. The title mentions printers, but the steps are the same for scanners:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • I can't use my scanner in Elements 12

I am unable to use my scanner with Elements 12.  I moved the Twain plug in from the Optional Plug-in folder to the Plug-in folder but no luck  Not in editor or organizer

Thank you-I looked at that article when I first started this project several hours ago. I called the scanner company and their tech support suggested it.  I moved the Twain Plug in as was suggested but I can’t seem to get the scanner to be recognized by PSE.  Any other suggestions?

  • After 10.5.5 I can't use my scanner nor re-install driver!!

I upgraded to MAC OS 10.5.5 and when I went to scan within Photoshop the SCANGEAR gave me error message that Canon CANOSCAN LIDE 30 driver needed to be reinstalled.
When I went to Canon website http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=6623
wnd downloaded driver I get an error message when I go to install- waiting for finding install locations. I end up having to force quit.
How can I install the LIDE30 driver and make this 10.5.5 OS work with the LIDE 30 driver work again
    Thank you

I purchased my Canon LiDE25 scanner 1/08 to replace my Canon N650U that would not work with Leopard and which Canon was not going to upgrade their driver. They told me that being a loyal customer I would be able to purchase a LiDE25 at a discounted price and that it would run on Leopard OS 10.5. I ordered the scanner and it never really worked properly, but I was able to scan using a round about method.
I contacted Canon about my problem when I tried to scan using CanoScan Toolbox that the driver could not be found and they told me to use the driver found on there download web page. It didn't solve my problem.
I do not use the scanner very often, but when I went to use it a few weeks ago I found it didn't work at all. I verified that the scanner was not at fault by hooking it up to my lap top PC and it worked fine. My conclusion was that since Leopard has been updated to 10.5.5 the Canon driver no longer is doing what it is suppose to do. After contacting Canon they suggested I download the driver from their web page. That driver was posted in 11/07. It wasn't written for 10.5.5.
I asked them if they expected customers to buy a new scanner every time an operating system was updated. I received no answer. I asked why a third party can produce VueScan and it not only works with my LiDE25, but my old N650U. I tested it using the VueScan trial version. Bu why should I pay $40 for a program that Canon should be providing for customers who purchased their scanners.
I am getting nowhere and have 2 perfect scanners I cannot use unless I purchase VueScan. If anyone has found a solution to this issue it would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Can't use Canon scanner.

    Hi, All.
I've tried installing a CanoScan Lide 200 scanner to be used with Photoshop CS6 but can't seem to make it work. I downloaded the two latest drivers available on Canon's website and installed them but it hasn't worked.
Do any of you know if there are special steps that need to be taken to make this scanner work with Photoshop CS6 ?
    Thank you in advance.

Are you running Photoshop CS6 32 bit, specifically?  What OS are you running?
As far as I know scanning into Photoshop directly via TWAIN is possible only in the 32 bit version, and only then when the Adobe optional Twain_32.8ba plug-in has been loaded.
There may have been some more recent additions where something like WIA might provide scanning support; I'm not sure.  It's been a while since I've had a scanner; nowadays I just photograph things I want scans of with my dSLR.

  • Can't use my scanner after upgrading to OX Maverick

After upgrading my scanner is not working probably. I have an elder HP F388 all in one printer & scanner. I can scan files, but after saving the page it is blank. Does anyone has idea how to solve this problem ?

I have iphone 3 GS.  I upgraded the software to ios 5 and the phone is now can't be accessed.  All I can see is the Gray screen says Iphone.  It ask me to set it up, choose your country, wifi, etc.  when I did that, it always stop at the page where it says "Apple activation server is down, please try it again".  Tried so many times but the same messages kept showing up.  Connect it to Itunes, itunes said there is no sim card installed.  I went to AT&T to get the new simcard and it still saying the same thing.  don't know what's wrong with it.

  • How can I use a scanner connected to my old PC?

    Hi!
Aside from my iMac, I have a PC to which a printer is attached. I used system preferences to connect to that printer (it worked just fine), and now when I click "print" on the mac, the printer starst printing (as long as the PC is on).
Now, I would like to do the same thing with a scanner, also connected to the PC. How do I do it? (I confess I forgot exactly what I did to connect the printer, as this would probably help.... hehehe.. but I remember typing the name of the PC workgroup and it's IP address somewhere.)
The scanner is an HP 2400 and USB.
Thanks a lot for the help!

    How do I do it?
You would have to contact the manufacturer of the scanner to see if their software allows for sharing the scanner, as Mac OS X has no built in support for that.

  • 10.5.4 and now I can't use my scanner

I have a Canoscan 8400F. It has been in my system (iMac, 2gHz Aluminum, 2GB SDRAM, Time Capsule, Apple TV) for a couple of years and I have never had a problem. Since the latest upgrade for Leopard was offered I can no longer get the computer to recognize the scanner. Whenever I open PhotoStudio (the software that drivsr the scanner) I get the following notice:
The necessary file could be missing or damaged, or some settings are incorrect.
    Reinstall the scanner driver.
    Scanner driver will be closed.
I have reinstalled the software with no success, A quick search on Google showed me that there were others that were having the same problem but no one offered any solutions. Short of going back to 10.5.3 does anyone have any suggestions?
    TIA,
    Paul

A quick search at Canon's site indicates updates dated late 2007, implying that your software is out-dated. Download and install the updates and see if that fixes your problem. Search http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/ for your scanner.

  • I can't use my scanner on HP C4200 with OS 10.9.4

Tried trashing all HP files and reinstall latest driver.   Fixed permissions,  Scanner scans, shows scan, but when I save I get Blank white page or Black lines.  WazzzzUp?

As a test, try Applications/Image Capture to see what you get.
You can also try resetting the printing system.

  • Can I use a scanner with iPad Numbers?

I can pair a bar code scanner (Socket Mobile brand) with an iPad 1 , but I can't scan in anything into Numbers.
A coworker was able to do it, but he is no longer here to ask.
    Looking for advice.

Well, that didn't work. I can't scan into a text document on the iPad either. But the Socket Mobile app recogizes and tests the scanner just fine. One thing I noticed is that the keyboard on screen doens't go away when the scanner is connected, if that's a sign of anything.

  • SCSI Scanner on PowerMac G5 with Leopard

    Hi all,
I have an old high-end SCSI scanner (AgfaScan XY-15) that I would like to use with my PowerMac G5 and OSX 10.5.8. In the past, I used a G4 MDD that could dual-boot OS 9 and OS X 10.3. The G4 had an Adapted card (29160 IIRC), the G5 an Atto (UL5D).
To have the scanner work with OS X 10.3, I had to replace IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily.kext and IOSCSIParallelFamily.kext (in /System/Library/Extensions) by their OS X 10.2 versions (something Agfa recommended for their mid-range scanner, on a page that can now only be found in archives : http://web.archive.org/web/20050306100359/http://www.agfa.com/digicam_scanner_dr ivers/faq/#faq22a)
On Leopard, I can see the scanner in the ATTO configuration tool, but the scanner sofware always outputs a "scanner not found" error. This scanner cannot be used with VueScan, so the solution suggested on Using SCSI Scanner with 10.5 possible? is not applicable.
I have tried changing parameters (for instance disabling LUNs for ID 4 - the scanner - as shown below, which results in the scanner only appearing once in the list of devices), but I cannot seem to find the good combination of parameters.
Does someone with experience in SCSI scanners have some tips?
Thanks in advance for the help!

The last device on the chain must have termination turned on.      If it is, then I don't know what to say other than to try some of the other scanner drivers on my subscription site*:

    * Links to some of my pages may give me compensation.

  • Using a scanner on my IMac ???

I have a Agfa e20 Scanner left over from my old pc days, I downloaded the driver for a mac but now I am not sure how to make it work?? I'm not very good with computers, so if someone can help me it would be much appreciated. I need to know what to do now??? the driver is in my downloads where do I store the driver and how can I use my scanner!!!
Thanks a lot for any assistance

I have a Lexmark multi function printer with a scanner it in. I downloaded the installer icon from the website which said it was compatible with OSX 10.3 or later. When the installer showed up on my desktop I clicked it open and then a picture of the printer went into my applications folder. So when I want to use the scanner I go to the Application folder, click on Macintosh HD and then scroll to applications on left hand side. Then I find my printer button which has a little Lexmark icon image and click on it and it opens right up and offers me an option to scan or copy.
    Hope this helps you out,
    S.
