Can't use the credit on my Apple ID

I have purchased a 25$ credit gift card and redeemed it to my Apple ID account on iTunes, but can not purchase anything with it. When I try to buy a song, the Store requests billing information. I have used these cards beofre and never had a problem. Any suggestions as to what the problem is and how to fix it are much appreciated. Thanks!

Another piece of information is that my account bar on the iTunes Store shows that I have been credited 25$. It's gray though, not white, if that matters. Just won't let me USE it. Please help.

You shouldn't have to put in a credit card, no, but from time to time the iTunes Store seems for some reason to try to insist on one. If just confirming your mailing address doesn't stop it from complaining, go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

If you mean use the balance of the credit and you don't have enough to buy iTunes media, you will have to purchase and redeem another gift card to make up the difference.

Are you talking about changing the Apple ID used for purchases in iTunes? If so go to 'Settings->iTunes & App Store-> then 'tap' on the Apple ID that appears and click Sign Out on menu that appears. You can now login with a different Apple ID.

Me too. If you are signed in, do not sign out. You can still do some things. If you sign out, you will be unable to sign back in until Apple fixes this.

I'm getting the same thing. I created a new Apple ID via the Internet (appleid.apple.com) When I go to my device to try to use it, I have to review it first and in that process, I'm asked for a credit card or iTunes gift card. There is NO 'none' option.
I work in a school district and we'd like employees to use their own apple ID for free apps which will allow them the freedom to explore apps without weighing down our tech dept with myriad requests for random apps. I deal with a broad demographic and many users are suspicious of putting personal credit card info on an Internet-based account.
However, it appears they are locked out of the store unless they have some form of payment on file. Even if they enter a gift card, what happens when it's used up? Will they get locked out of the store if they don't have a balance?
Anyone have a work around? If not ... APPLE Please update your support materials to explain this, or fix the bug.

I do NOT like using my credit card if I don't have to, and I went out of my way to go buy an Apple gift card, which I successfully redeemed into my Apple account. However, when I use the Apple "Cards" app, it will not let me use anything other than my credit card. I tried purchasing a card, hopefulling it would come out of my Apple store balance, but no such luck -- it came out of my credit card.
Apple is becoming more like Microsoft every day.
