Can't Verify Burned Disk

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, Every time I try to burn a disk, my computer spits it out and says the disk can't be verified. How can I fix this?

Have you checked the discs to see if they read/work even when they reportedly fail verification? If so, that error message might be slightly spurious - disable verify for now and see below...
I've seen a number of users having various issues with their burners w/Snow Leopard - I can only think to suggest you do two things....
• Check the manufacturer of the optical drive and see if there is a more current firmware available
• Try another brand of blank media - this is the time honored method any time these types of issues surface.
You might want to check on the iDVD forum, as an example, to see what the current popular blank media seems to be.
Good luck in any case.

  • Can Not Verify Hard Disk

I was trying to install Windows XP on my iMac using Boot Camp, but during the disk partition phase, I got an error message saying that "The Disk Could Not Be Partitioned Because the Disk Could Not Be Verified." So I opened up Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk and the result is "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit. 1 HFS voluem checked. Volume needs repair." However, the "Repair Disk" option is not available. Please Help!

Well,it wasn't only about reinstalling and took me five minutes to fix the problem.
    -Search your installation DVD's.
-Insert the disc 1 and sthut down your Mac
-Start your Mac again while holding down the C key
-Now your Mac should boot from the CD, this can take some time.
-After a while you will see a installation screen where you can chose a language.
    -Chose English and continue.
-Then click some time's next and agree with the "Software Agreement".
-Open Disk Utility. Top menu bar --> Utilities --> Open Disk Utility.
-Select your hard disk in the list of disks and volumes on the left side
-Go to the First Aid (tab somewhere on the right).
-Click the button to verify the permissions.
-Then Click the button to repair the permissions.
-Click the button to verify the disk.
-Then Click the button to repair the disk.
-Exit the Disk Utility and the installer.
    -Restart your Mac

  • Can no longer burn data to CD disks

Message appears "The drive reported an error Sense Key = Hardware error sense code = 0x44, 0xD6 INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE
SINCE I INSTALLED MAVERICKS, CAN NO LONGER BURN DISKS. I had Toast 10.4 and was persuaded to upgrade to 10.09. When I downloaded and replaced my Toast folder in apps I got a message saying "unlicensed vendor" go to app store. An inferior product was on sale for £13,99.
What is going on here. Once again I am confronted by Apple "dis-abling technology. Why could I not get an upgrade from Roxio?

You have always been able to burn even copy protected tracks to an Audio CD. That hasn't changed. All tracks sold on the iTunes Store now are DRM free. Track prices now range form .69 to 1.29 but the price is unrelated to copy protection.
You may still be using the same brand/type of discs but are you still burning in the same format? When you select the playlist that you want to burn to a CD, then press "Burn CD", you get a dialog box that offers you options. Be sure you have "Audio CD" selected.
If, what you're really trying to do is burn an MP3 cd, you'd first need to make sure that all of the tracks in the playlist are mp3s. If not, you'd need to convert them. You'd need to make sure that your import settings were set to mp3 by going into Preferences>General and pressing the Import Options button and selecting the desired mp3 settings. Then, you select the tracks you want to convert, and from the Advanced menu, choose Create mp3 version. Note: this creates a new mp3 track. It doesn't change the existing track. And, it doesn't work on protected tracks. Protected tracks, as noted above, can be burned to an Audio CD which you can then use as you would any other Audio CD.
    Best of luck.

  • Verify after disk burning

    Hi,
Is there any way to tell Finder not to verify disk after burning?
    Thanks.

I know you can choose not to verify in Disk Utility, but I don't know if it is possible in Finder.

  • After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely

After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely." What do I do now? This is an iMac and I'm running 10.6.8.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it. See below for how to clone a drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You may be able to backup your data if you have an erased external drive you can use. Before you do the above but after you have opened Disk Utility you can try to clone your drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Now this will only work if the drive is accessible and can be cloned by Disk Utility. Otherwise, you would need to access your drive from another Mac that you can connect via Firewire - Target Disk Mode.

  • Can't verify disk permissions (or get wireless to work) with SR macbook

Anybody else on an SR macbook wanna try verifying their disk permissions and tell me if it works? Also I have the ubiquitous airport problem (it just plain doesn't work). I used to have a mid 2006 revision and it worked flawlessly (until someone stole it!)

Your response was not a helpful response.  I like you also want to use the "supremely superior MAC", but unlike you, I would prefer to have one laptop I use for everything and would prefer to use the best.  I would sure rather convert my entire business to MAC (which would mean 100s of machines), but unfortunately all the software that it takes to run my business only runs on Windows.  All of my software runs much better on the MAC even with Windows O/S.  That would be a huge selling point for MAC if they even made a modest attempt to support users that only want to use a MAC and would llike to completely move away from the PC. I would love to throw all of my PCs in the trash.  I have an iPad and use my iPhone for everything I do in the business side of my life along with my MacBook, with only one issue that the Windows side won't let me connect to my wireless networks and I can't find Apple support or others like you that can offer any solutions.

  • Can't verify disk

I've been trying to run the "Verify Disk" utility on Disk utility on my main 500GB hard drive that contains the OS among other things. When ever I run either verify or repair disk utility it runs for a little bit then ultimately comes back with the error "can't veryify/repair disk". I can verify and repair disk 'permissions', just not the disk.
Is a crash of the drive in it's entirety imminent or is there a way to prevent this, or at least get the utillity to do what it is supposed to?
    Thanks in advance!!

Something is open and/or running that prevents verify.
You should be repairing your drive booted from another hard drive. disk utility isn't as complete and thorough as Alsoft Disk Warrior.
It is always safer and better to make sure you have a backup as well.
Until you install OS X on another drive or clone your drive (Disk Utility Repair or Carbon Copy Cloner) you'll have to settle with booting from Install DVD and go to Utilities menu from there.

  • Wh can't I burn a disk with songs downloaded from itunes?  It won't let me burn MP3 songs

I downloaded some songs from itunes and tried to burn them to a disk.  When I tried to burn them as MP3 I got a message that the songs downloaded from Itunes can't be burned as MP3.  Because I paid for the songs I'd like to be ablet o burn them to a disk.  Any solutions?

The songs downloaded from the iTunes Store are in AAC format.  If you wish to use them for an MP3 disc, you need to create an MP3 version using these instructions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Note that the conversion process creates a new MP3 version, but leaves the original in the playlist.  You can replace it manually.

  • Disk utility/repair problem - can't verify disk

i am trying to run disk utility to clean up my hard drive. i was able to verify and repair permissions without a problem. i have run into 2 problems with disk repair:
1 - i can't complete the verify disk portion. i get this error message, "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." the next line in the box reads, "1 HFS volume checked - Volume needs repair." this leads to the next problem ...
2 - the repair disk button is nonoperable (doesn't light up) so there is nothing to push for the repair.
i could use any help you can offer. screen shots are available upon request.
    thanks,

    Hi Dr,g
The startup drive can only be repaired from another drive. You cannot repair the boot drive from your HD (which is your boot drive). You have to boot from the install disk.
To do this: Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart; when you hear the chime hold down C key until the apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.
Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar to Utilities and navigate to the Disk Utilities application.
Select the start up drive, then follow the instructions in the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk.
If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.
After these repairs, quit the application, and restart normally.
Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions. from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.
