Can't view a jpg.html photo

my sister send me via email (cox.net) an old family picture. when i attempt to open it, all i see on the screen is rows and rows of numbers, letters, and funky symbols. what gives and how can i view this picture? thanks for all your help!

or if the photo has two extensions, like mypic.jpg.html, erase the html part (which shouldn't be there for a jpg anyway).
EDIT However, it sounds to me like maybe your sister or her email provider made a mistake somewhere. HTML should never be attached as a suffix to just a photo. Oh wait, is this HTML mail? Then it should display correctly in mail.app. How are you opening it?

Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

IPhoto 11 how can I view original and edited photo

I am new to imac and have been editing photos with iphoto 11. After editing a photo I can see the edited photo, but how can I view the original?
Also does iphoto keep all edited versions of a photo?

If you want to see the original image then hold the shift key when in edit mode.

Not exactly sure what you mean by that... with iPhoto 11, when you edit a pic nothing on the original pic is changed, and all your editing decisions are recorded in the database. Next time you view the image these decisions are applied to the image as you view it. So, iPhoto records the edit history. Subsequent edits work on the aggregrate history, or you can revert to the original and start over.
If you want to have multiple versions (say, one in in B&W, one in Sepia) then you need to duplicate the image.
Note that the versions are all virtual, based on the Master. Deleting the master will also delete the versions.

Can't view simple JPG photo attachments emailed to me...

Another really basic issue. My wife sends me a simple JPG in an email. I can't see the picture on the iPhone. It's visible in Mail on my desktop. iPhone just doesn't work (either under 2.01 or 2.0)

Hi Steve. As I said in an earlier post, I had the same issue. I knew all along that there must be a simple solution, and there is. Maybe you've already tried this, but it worked for me. I reset my iPhone through iTunes. This puts you back to day 1 with fresh software. I had my settings backed up on my computer, so once the iPhone was reset, I backed it up with my previous settings. This took less than 15 minutes to complete and all worked perfect, even the jpg files sent to me from my wife or anyone else. Hope you are this lucky as well.

I can not view attachments in html email

I am currently having a problem with Outlook 2011, basically when I send emails from windows, when I receive an email in HTML I can not see any attachments if you receive in plain text if I can see them. Someone had this problem before?

Ok, now they are showing. I restarted my computer again and they are showing now.

Windows 7 -- Can't view contents of iCloud Photos folders.

On a Windows 7 (x64) PC when opening iCloud Photos from Favorites in Windows Explorer, the individual subfolders open to a blank page.
Syncing works fine, thumbnails show in folders (My Photo Stream, Activity, and any folders I've created). Right-Clicking on a 'folder' and selecting "open folder location" works properly. Double-Clicking on a folder shows a blank pane. No problem on another Windows 7 computer. Suspect some Windows setting is preventing this from working properly. [iCloud 4.0]

Other possibilities include:
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Depending on the site your uploading to PictureSync might also help.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

Dear Nokia,
I've recently purchased the Nokia e90 to use for email using Vodafone push email (push.vodafone.nl) however the emails are in plain text format and not even the links are accessible.
I have the folowing questions:
1) is it possible to view pushed emails in HTML format
2) is it possible to load links from emails in the browser
3) is it possible to select a piece of text from an email to copy and paste it in the browser (form field)

Well, that doesn't work for me as it reads from pop or imap.
I want to be able to use the push email service of my provider for which I pay a monthly fee. It will make emails come in like SMS.
At least the links should be openable somehow. I receive admin emails and need to select a link to perform an admin task. I actually was hoping that the communicator was going to make it more easy for me. My HTC X7500 broke down and aldough it worked very well for internet browsing, I could only use gmail via the internet browser as outlouk wasn't working very well for me. While the x7500 is being fixed I decided to purchase the e90 for email (communication) purposes but now it seems the email functionality is limited to sms a like without the 160 charlimit.
Is it not possible at all to open links in incomming emails within the nokia messenger?
And what about copying text from an email (into the browser)

CAN'T VIEW MY QUICKTAKE 150 PHOTOS

I have hundreds of photos taken with an old QT 150, how do I view them on my G-5. PhotoShop said it didn't have enough memory

The original files were saved on to a Zip disk and then copied to CD. When I try to open up the files directly from the CD, ( on my G5 running 10.4.8 ) preview opens up and displays a window that reads, "QuickTime and a QuickTake decompressor are needed to see this picture" When the same photo is dragged into PhotoShop 7.0 the same message appears........ When the same photo is opened in my T.A.M. running 8.6 and PhotoShop 5.0 a message reads that there is not enough RAM... Opening it up in PhotoShop 5.0 with traslation, a window opens up like it would if the photo was going to open but instead, it's just blank....... I even installed software for a QuickTake 200 and a window opens up like it would if the photo was going to open but instead, it's just blank...... I don't know what else to do...

I can't view or edit my photos after Update

My photos are visible in the row of thumbnails along the bottom of the screen but the main editing field is black. I just recently ran Update, so is that the problem although it was working fine last night?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Can't view the jpg n png files imported to stage

Why can I see only the above images in the library after importing them to the stage?

If you have the file you are trying to import, open in any other program (The image you are trying to import) it will not place it on the stage. I just tested this from an image saved as a png from microsoft digital image pro (yet MDIPro still had the original on its desktop while its program was still running) however cs5 acted dumb as if there was nothing to place. I closed the file in the MIDIPro program and Voila! Flash CS5 recognized it and dropped it in on the stage.

ICloud Photo Library (Beta) - Can't view older photos from before 2014

Hi All,
I turned on iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 5s. These two phones had different sets of photos at the time. After the synch process completed the two phones now show the same photos. However, only the photos from 2014 are visible on both phones.
Interestingly, if I go to iCloud -> Storage -> Manage Storage -> iCloud Photo Library -> I can see that more photos have been stored than are visible. Storage reports 2600 photos, but I can only view 1800 through the photos application.
I'm hoping this is simply a Beta bug and my photos have not been lost. With luck they will become visible after a future update.
I'm curious if anyone from Apple can confirm this is a known limitation of the Beta. Or if anyone from the community has seen this same behavior.

I really wish I could like iPhoto, but I don't know what in the world it is doing, and by locking me out of the Finder access to the iPhoto folder and doing things like duplicating photos without my asking, I've lost trust in this piece of software.
First thing is: It's a Photo manager. That's the basic key thing you need to grasp. Your photo is not the same thing as the file that contans it. That's why Finder access is not relevant. Import the Photo, manipulate the photo - losslessly - and then if you want to use the Photo in a document, upload it, whatever, put it into a new file designed for that purpose.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
So as long as you're hanging on to the idea that Photo=Jpeg iPhoto is never going to work for you.
If you're willing to let go of that - as you do with Addresses, as you do in iMovie, Lightroom, Final Cut, APerture - then you can begin to make sense of iPhoto too.

Can't view successfully downloaded .jpg photos

I just successfully downloaded 180 jpg photos from my Olympus Camedia D-560 into iPhoto 6 on my new iBookG4. All of the photos show up in the small preview mode in the Library but when I try to double click on any of the photos to see a larger view of it, it takes me to the edit mode and shows the photo for a fraction of a second and then it disappears and an exclamation point with a large square around it appears. There is no view of the photo.
I've tried to view the photos in the slideshow as well and it just shows a blank screen.
Any suggestions?

Hi, ChrisBKLYN. Can you view the photos if you dig into your iPhoto Library folder (go into "Originals") using the Finder? Be careful not to move anything around though.
You are seeing the small images because iPhoto creates those separately when importing. It looks like something changed on iPhoto after importing. Do you use any special settings, like don't copy images to library (Advanced panel of the preferences) or anything?
Another thing you can do is get info on any .jpg file and set the Open with to "Preview" application. Then click Change All.. even if it was Preview in the first place.

Mine was with sync'ed photos, not Photo Stream,
I opened the iPhoto Library Package and removed the iPod Photo Cache. Then resync'ed and everything started working great!

How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files? I need to look at several thousand PDF files. It takes too long to open each one individually. The only thing I could think of is combining them into large groups and then using the Navigation index. But I like the way windows Picture and Fax Viewer does it because you can keep the files separate. Combining PDFs causes loss of individual file names. That would be a problem since I do need to have the individual file names.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is a DLL and is started via a rundll32.exe call and can't be set as an application to handle images in Firefox 3 and later versions.
Try to set Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default viewer in Windows, then it should be listed automatically in the Mozilla Firefox Browse dialog.

Can't view photos and movies emailed to me on new 16GB iPhone

I'm sure this has been asked here already, but couldn't find it. When someone emails me a photo or a movie I can't view it on the iPhone. All I see is an icon with mime-attachment under it. I'm able to view the photos and videos on my iMac and Powerbook though. The 2 most recent videos were .wmv so I'm guessing I can't view those as it is right now on the iPhone, but I have no idea why I can't view the pictures. Thanks

whoever is emailing you the photos is sending them as a .zip file not a .jpg most likely because there is more than one photo. unfortunately iPhone does not have a .zip file reader so whoever is emailing the photos has to make sure they are not zip ing them and resend them as .jpg files. (usually gmail tries to convert several images into .zip files)
