Can't view applets anymore

Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I'm using IE 6.0, and I can't view applets now that I could 2 days ago. I'm not sure if I inadvertantly deleted something I shouldn't have or what. Thinking that I may have, I did a system restore to an earlier point in time where I could see them fine, but it didn't fix the problem. I don't even see the grey field, just the 3 colored geometric shapes in the upper left corner. I could really use some help. Nevermind. I ended up deleting everything named java and reinstalling the entire platform. That worked.

Can't view Applet, JVM download require

I have a problem,
My computer has no internet connection, so when i write one applet file and try to view it using IE (My os is windows XP pro), one dialog come out asking me to download JVM to view this applet. because i got no internet connection so i was recommended to download the JRE file from one website and install it so i can view any applet file using IE.
I did went to that web site suggested and download the JRE and after installation i got no more problem with my IE running any applet.
But after i install visual studio 6, during the isntallation it ask me to update the JVM and i got no option but to follow the instruction.
And after that i open my IE to try to run an applet file, one same dialog comes up again ask me to download JVM.
I did try to uninstall vb studio and JRE and then reinstall only JRE back, but the problem still exists.
So what should i do ?

What version of Java did you install when you first installed the JRE...
Are you able to see the HTML tags which are used to support and load the applet.. What do they look like.. Is the Applet or Object tag used..
When the installation of Visual Studio required a new JVM, do you recall which JVM was necessary... Did it reqire MSJVM vs Sun JVM..
When you updated the JVM at that time, from where did you obtain it.. In other words, what JVM was installed with the installation of Visual Studio..

Can't view jpegs anymore [solved]

In the process of switching from Mepis to Arch, I've now come to the image viewers. Gwenview is my favorite, but when I installed it here, I really can't use it, because it won't display any jpeg images. I tried some of the other viewers, and it turns out that I can open them in Gimp and KView, but neither in Gwenview, Kuickshow, Showimg, or KIconedit. Even if I specify a JPEG filter for the browser, no files are shown. Not either in the preview pane in Krusader does it show up.
What is wrong? Is it some conflict which the installation didn't catch? i'm using KDE3.5 - could that be it? I'm not sure if it happened before or after I installed kde3.5, since I haven't really started looking at the picture side until today.

the system is up to date. It's not a problem with the system as such, since I can log in as a different user and the programs run fine. I think it's something to do with the kde cache or something, but that's territory into which I haven't yet ventured...
I actually managed to run gwenview from console this morning

And there was a long list of warnings, which I thought I had copied before I closed down the terminal, but I hadn't so I can't reproduce it here. But the jpeg was shown. When I closed it down and tried again, it was once more without luck.
If I run showimg the same way, I get this:

and no jpg displayed. I have just installed crossover - perhaps I should try to remove it again...
What seems strange is that KView works fine. I would have thought it had to do with kde-related apps, but then KView ought not to work either?
I don't really know what kbuildsycoca is/does, but it seems to be involved in the error/warnings? In generall, whenever there is a problem with xfce, it is always related to kde functions somehow. hm. Can I remove the /var/tmp/kdecache-<user> folder and let it rebuild on the next run?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
          Allow Plug-ins
Then click
          Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

I have created an applet form using JDeveloper 3.1 to connect to the Oracle8i Rel2. However the following error appear during the connection:
cannot instantiate class:oracle.jbo.common.jboInitialContextFactory
Please assist.

Applet Deployment for JDev 3.1
Deployment issues for client and server:
1. Make sure you have the JDK 1.2 plugin installed on the client.
2. If your webserver and database are not on the same machine, you will have to configure your applet differently, or install the Net8 Connection Manager. See the Oracle JDBC Developer's Guide for more information (exact location of applet info depends on which version of the DB).
Creating your Applet within JDeveloper:
1. Create a new workspace.
2. Create a new Business Components project. You will define your data model and business logic in this project. This is effectively your middle tier, but can be deployed to any tier you choose. In this project you will use the Business Components wizard to create:
a. entity objects for each of the tables/views you want to develop against
b. view objects (and optionally view links, associations) for each of the entity objects or combination of entity objects
c. application module(s) to represent your data model(s)
3. Save and build your business components project.
4. Create a new empty project to contain your applet code.
5. Launch the Infobus DataForm wizard to create your DAC applet. Choose the app module you created in step 2 as a data source. (Alternately, you can create the applet from scratch using the controls and binding your sessioninfo object to your app module).
Deployment Steps within JDeveloper:
1. Deploy your business components project.
a. decide how you will deploy your app module (local, visibroker, etc.)
b. if you decide to deploy in local mode, use the Deployment Profile Wizard and choose 'Simple Archive', including all of the business components project's XML and .JAVA files in the archive.
c. if you will deploy to visibroker, see the online help for deploying your business components, and see the Release Notes for additional changes you need to make to your applet project.
2. (if deploying BC4J project in local mode) Create a library using the archive you generated in Step 1. Add this library to your applet project from the Project Properties Libraries tab.
3. Clear out a directory on your local machine where the deployment wizard can copy everything you need to deploy.
4. Deploy your applet project.
a. Run the JDeveloper Deployment Profile Wizard and choose the Web Application to Web Server option on Page 1.
b. On page 2, select all of the .class files in your project that make up the applet.
c. Select all the libraries listed and shuttle them to the selected list. The contents of these libraries will automatically be added to your applet's HTML file during deployment
d. Give the .jar file a name, and run the deployment to generate that jar file.
e. select the location of the 'clean' directory you created in step 3.
Deploying to your WebServer:
1. Copy everything that the deployment process placed in your 'clean' directory to your WebServer.
If you deployed your BC4J project locally, you will need to deploy the archive file containing your business components to the webserver along with all of the other archives.
2. If you want to put the dependency archives in a different location from the applet's HTML file under the webserver root, then you need to set the CODEBASE tag in the HTML file to the (relative) location of the archives.
Troubleshooting:
1. Try both Netscape and IE. Different Browsers sometimes give different errors and one might be more helpful/indicative of the problem's source.
2. Use the Java Console to get a more detailed stack trace. For Netscape, choose Communicator->Tools->Java Console.

Can anyone clarify APPLETS?

I am developing an applet to run online.
The applet is supposed to call a program to check indentation of students pascal programs stored on local PCs.
the pascal programs are stored on disk (A drive)
and the students go online to the applet to fill in the applets textfield the exact location of the their programs on disk.
The applet then calls the indentation program and gives it the exact location of the pascal program and the indentation program reads in the pascal program to be checked!
The indent program gives the pascal program a score and gives this to the applet.
The applet is supposed to be connected to a Database
to record the scores of the students.
I have spent far too much time messing about with applet/JDBconnection and applet/servlet/DB connection.
I need someone to really clarify if because of applets security restrictions will the applet not be allowed to call the indent program to read in the pascal programs on the client side.
I need to know for definite because i am running out of time quickly, this project is worth alot of my course marks and i have spent too long being told the applet will have access to the pascal files and then "NO", u will have to FTP the pascal files to the server side.
If so, is ASP the best and easiest way to transfer the pascal textfiles to to a directory on the server and there will the indent program be allowed access to read in the pascal porgram?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

The easiest portion of the applet should be to connect to the database and record the scores. JDBC is really quite easy to use. If your having specfic problems with JDBC, shout out.. There are plenty of talented people here willing to help..
For transfering files up to the server from a clients A: drive... The applet is NOT your best choice.. Unless you package your applet with a security certificate, and allow local disk acess (applets by default cant access local drives, or write to the server).
So your best choice is probably JSP (ASP yuck). There is a HTML element <INPUT TYPE="file"></INPUT> that aloows the client to click a browse button, and select the file on thier local harddrive/floppy. Then when they submit the HTML form the file is transfered to the web server, from where it can then be transfered to another server, put into a database, or kept in a directory where the client can then view the output of what your JSP did to the file...

Besides these problems, there is the battery, which was bad got worse, she is not lasting more than 10 hours, even without using the phone.

Photoshop CS2 + Nikon: Can´t open pictures anymore

After ugrading my system i can not view an open NEF (Nikon) Files anymore. Even after downloading the Adobe plugin and installing it, there is not photo opened by photoshop.
It complains something about wrong version of the plugin and photoshop.

You might want to list your versions of PS and ARC, also your Nikon. You might want to jot down the exact error messages that you receive too.
In CS & CS2 the ARC plug-in files were in two different locations. Nikon Capture 4.x would re-write these, for instance, and users had to replace the Nikon versions with the Adobe versions everywhere. Part of this was due to PS being bundled with ImageReady. IIRC, CS3 does not contain IR.

Since I can't view my points history.....

Can a specialist please let me know how many points I have pending and an estimated date of when I'll be receiving my points since I can't view anymore on bestbuy.com. I want to know if I'll be receiving points for a pre order and a purchase that I made on 9/27. When can we expect to be able to view our history. I figured since a lot of people are asking for this feature it would of been on the top of the to do list for bestbuy. I wouldn't be asking but I had problems in the past with receiving points.

As long as your BestBuy.com and My Best Buy accounts are linked, you should be able to login to BestBuy.com right now and view your points/purchase history. I posted an update to the forum on 10/1/2014 once the points/purchase history feature had officially been added to BestBuy.com. You would want to login to BestBuy.com, click on "Account Overview" or "Rewards" under the My Best Buy tab, and then click on either "Points History" or "Purchase History."
From what I can see, you do have a couple transactions from 9/27/2014 that are currently pending in your account. Kdemod3: can't run KPDF anymore

After I did the most recent "pacman -Syu", I can't run KPDF anymore (the only PDF reader I know that has continuous page view).
It says "unable to find kpdf part". Also, sometimes (I think when opening kpdf from konqueror), it says libjpeg.so.62 can't be opened.
How can I run kpdf?

EDIT: appearantly doing "ln -s /usr/lib/libjpeg.so /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62" was enough and fixed my problem!
I didn't even need to install anything else, I guess KPDF is comfortable enough with just thinking that it's version 6.

Unless you have iTunes installed. I cannot find a way to see details about charges to my account.
I understand that a confirmation email is sent after each charge, but unfortunately I delete those.
Apple has to implement an easier way for people to track details of charges without the need of iTunes, since most people do not connect or depend anymore of iTunes and only use (OTA) for registration, updates, iCloud restore, etc.

Sorry, but other than the receipts, the only way to view the dates and costs of a purchase are by using iTunes ona computer. If you want to make suggestions to Apple regarding a different method, you can use their feedback pages:

Those people who do not arrange access to iTunes are taking a big risk with their purchases, since without backing up to iTunes on your computer you're at the mercy of the app and content owners who can remove items at any time. This has happened on numerous occasions, and if that happens, redownloading that item will no longer be possible, leaving you with no recourse should you inadvertently or deliberately remove the item from your iOS device.

When I used webEngine to view applet demo of JDK like this:

I got message on the page inside JavaFX like this:

There are a few known bugs related to webengine:
• Issue RT-12439: WebView can not be gc-ed (garbage-collected).
Description: Memory leak causes the application to crash with an out-of-memory error on web sites that have a lot of content, running scripts, and automatic updates.
Workaround: To be able to reclaim the WebEngine object, call the webView.setEngine(null) method.
• Issue RT-12440: WebView is updated even when it is invisible.
Description: Performance is impacted.
Workaround: Include a call to the webView.setEngine(null) method in your application.
