Can't view computers in My Network Places- WRT160N

I just replaced a D-Link router with a WRT160N. Now I can no longer see the other computers (all wired) in My Network Places. All I see is the WRT160N. What do I need to do to see the other computers on the network?

If you have any software firewall on computers, make sure the router is added to trusted networks on all computers. Try to ping computers from each other, and check for replys.

I have a weird issue with a behavior of Windows 7 machines. The setup is as following: domain with WinSrv 2008R2 DC-s, functional level of the domain is WinSrv2008R2, there are Windows XP and WIndows 7 machines on the network. Users use My Network places
to access shares on other people-s PC's. Everything was fine while we had WinSrv2003 domain controller. After it was upgraded to WinSrv2008R2, Windows 7 machined cannot see all of the computers in My network places. To make things even worse, there are no
rules - some Win 7 machines see others just fine, some see 30 PC's (out of 100), some see all after doing a refresh...all sorts of different situations. I have no idea where else to look. Can it be some DNS setting that I missing? Any help is much appreciated

Hi Dino,
As I known, by default computer browser service is not started in windows 2008 server and higher OS.
You should enable NetBios over TCP/IP on the NCI settings and start the browser service in the services.msc and it should show you all the list of computers connected on
network.
we should enable Network Discovery in the Network and Sharing Center first.
Please also temporarily turn off firewall on each machine.
In addition, please modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine.
a. Click Start and open Control Panel.
b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings".
c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options:
"Turn on Network Discovery",
"Turn on file and printer sharing",
"Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders",
"Turn off password protected sharing"
If the issue persists, try to access another computer by entering
\\computername in the Start Search box. Let us know if it works properly.
For a test, you may also disable IPv6 in adapter properties.
a. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
b. Double click to expand "Network Adaptors".
c. Right click your network card and click Properties.
d. Click Advance tab. High light Speed & Duplex
e. If you would like to use the full functionality, please set the Value to the highest Full.
f. Click OK.

WIFI on 2504. Users can't see any computers in "My network places".

Hello. I'm using 2504 CISCO controller and three AIR-CAP2602I-R-K9 access points. So I organized simple WIFI network with AES encryption. Users can easily connect to the proper SSID and after put a login have Internet access.But they just can't see any computers or shared folders on servers in "My Network Places". If I connect any workstation by wire I haven't this problem. So the issue appears only during WIFI access to the LAN.
Please advise, what can I change in 2504 settings.

The WLC doesn't block this unless P2P blocking is enabled. The easiest way to test is to create an open SSID and map that WLAN to an existing wired Vlan. Doesn't tweak the WLAN except for making it wide open. Them associate your wireless client to that new SSID and see if they see the resources.
That is the configuration I was telling you about that you had a screen shot of. As long as that is disabled, you should be able to see the resources.

How can I view all available wireless networks?

So, I recently set up a new wireless network at home. Living in an apartment building means there are lots of other wireless networks floating around, none of which I have any interest in joining. Unfortunately, my phone will only list five or six available networks, with my new network not included. I can't "forget" any of the other networks, as I have never connected to them, and attempting to enter my network and password fails.
Thus, I need to either 1) view every single available network, or 2) find a way to get rid of the networks I'm not interested in

User can browse by drilling down in Network places but not by entering path.

This is the setting in group policy that would be blocking it
User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Start Menu and Task Bar>Remove Run menu from Start Menu (enabled or disabled?).

If you believe it may be a GPO, my first step would be to run a RSOP on the user and see what his resultant group policy is. Then we can eliminate that as a factor. Everyone's group policies in their environment are radically different, so if you think that is the problem, all we could do at this point is speculate on the resolution.
Use the wizard in the group policy mmc and see what you come up with. You could even post the results if you need help understanding them.

1/ Installed Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
I followed the steps how to install Windows Server Update Services ( WSUS ) correctly by following steps on technet.microsoft.com
2/ Edit Group Policy Management (GP)
Open "Group Policy Management" Console
by right click "edit" the "Default Domain Policy" and It took me to "Group Policy Management Editor"
I changed the "Windows Update" Setting under "Group Policy Management Editor"
by doing to "Computer COnfiguration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates"

You have to apply the WSUS Gpo policy to your computers OU(or which OU computers incelude).

Can't view all computers on a network

I'm at a university and when I log onto my area network I get a list of some 1750 computers (up to IF-H, I lose everyting after IF-I to Z). Is there a way to view all, or view a subset? I can't access my department server without viewing J and above.

Here are some ideas and questions.
1. Make sure that the DSL or cable modem is connected to the Snow's WAN port, not its LAN port.
2. Are all 5 computers connecting to the network wirelessly, or are some connected via Ethernet? If via Ethernet, what is your network structure?
3. Can all the computers not only "see" your network, but join it? (Does a check mark appear next to the correct network name in each computer's AirPort status menu?)
4. Can both computers that can connect to the Internet do so simultaneously?
5. Check the IP address of each computer when all are joined to your network. Do they all have the form "10.0.1.x"? This is expected if each is obtaining an IP address via DHCP from the base station.
6. Are the balky computers MacBooks and/or MacBook Pros? Note that this month Apple came out with an AirPort Client Update for MacBook and MacBook Pro, which is intended to address an AirPort performance issue while running on battery power under Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Xserve/Windows Network Issue - can't see computers

seriously, everything was fine until xmas eve. Now I can't see the computers on the network on a mac or a pc.
Now, when I go to Start/My Network places on a pc the share points do not show up.
Also when I go View Workgroup Computers - it returns an error. In the error it mentions permissions. I've propogated permission, restarted SMB services and restarted twice.
OSX 10.5.1, Xserve, standalone server, SMB services are running, one username and password for everyone with r/w permission, even guests access is turned on, ...
AT&T Netopia dsl modem (bridged mode), Linksys wireless router with ip's assigned to all computers, to a switch that routes to users and two more switches.
note - I can see a few macs on Mac OSX Tiger and Leopard but nothing on the pc's. I can, however, see a unix sever that's on the network by typing
ServerName in an explore address bar. And at one time I could type in
Xserve on both macs and pc's but no longer.

I'm not sure I get what your setup looks like but:

Does this mean this is your Internet router and it's setup for serving IP's through DHCP to LAN clients? I would use the Xserve for DHCP also serving the (search) domain name and LDAP server name and search base.
And why is server still at 10.5.1?
You need a newer version, at least 10.5.3.
The Windows/SMB service should have the domain/workgroup name entered in CAPITALS.
Windows clients will have problem seeing the Netbios workgroup/domain if the Windows firewall is one/not letting SMB traffic through.
All Windows clients should be setup using the same netbios Workgroup/Domain name or bound to a SMB domain (OD Master and PDC configuration reuqired in the server).

Can you view network drives in Bridge?

I am currently using a trial of CS4 and when I go to bridge to select the files that I want to import into Lightrooom ( the one thing I don't understand about lightroom not having a browser to see the pictures before you import, I think this is crucial to good workflow ) I am unable to see any of my network, however my 1.4 version of Lightroom can see all the network. I am probably doing something wrong can anybody help?

I hate to say this but you sound a bit distressed and aren't understanding me. I specifically stated that in my scenario I am able to view network items such as computers on the network that are unmapped but are connected to the network. I can go into those computers by twirling the triangle and viewing the shared folders. within those folders I can view items that are part of that drive. I can ALSO see mapped network drives and their contents. I did experience a single problem of not being able to view two large folders on a network computer but it did not say "building criteria". Usually "building criteria" only appears if you are "searching" for something. You might try waiting for the criteria to finish building which could take some time in Bridge, since when it takes this step it is searching according to index and non-index criteria. If it is non-index then it will be slow to respond to your search. If Bridge doesn't work properly you might try to contact Adobe customer support if you purchased the product recently and it is under warranty and registered to you. You cannot, as you said, open a file in CS4. CS4 includes Bridge and a host of other applications based on what version of CS4 you have. Please try to be more specific when you post as to the steps you took to reach your point of difficulty with the software. Network in Bridge is located under the "Desktop" icon in Windows. You have to twirl the Desktop in order to see the Network.

We have a PC with iTunes that needs the hard drive reformatted. Right now, it can't connect to other computers on the network. Can I save my music to a thumb drive, then re-load when the computer is reformatted?

Copy the entire iTunes folder out to the drive. If it is too big to go as one copy stuff over to another computer in batches. It is important to have not only the media but the library file in order to properly restore your library.
See also this User Tip. Assuming the machine won't connect to the internet you could download the SyncToy installer on another machine and then transfer it with the thumb drive. If it will connect to the net don't forget to deauthorize the machine before reformatting the hard drive.

I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
Any ideas how I can do this?

You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:

Can't Access One of My Network Computers via Windows (File) Explorer

I've just installed a new router (Linksys EA3500 Dual Band) to replace my old (Linksys WRT100), but can't imagine how that could cause this trouble, except that prior to installing the new router, all worked properly. I have three Workgroup computers
on my network, one running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit (call it Tower-755, an older laptop upstairs running Win 7 Pro 32bit (call it MommaDell), and a super laptop running Win 7 Pro 64bit (Call it M6600). On Tower-755 I have a mirrored Raid1 drive - call
it Z: - that I share over the net (i.e. Everyone = Read/Write).
Since installing the new router, when I open File Explorer on M6600 or MommaDell, I can see - in the search pane (under Network) - all three computers, and when I click on MommaDell, its shared folder is accessible, but when I click on Tower-755
I get an error saying, "Windows cannot access
\\Tower-755, yet I can ping it successfully from a command prompt.
However, when I open File Explorer on Tower-755, although I can see all three computers in the search pane (under Network), I can't access any of the three (including Tower-755 itself); I get the same error message, although I CAN ping them from a command
prompt.
Also, and I'm not sure if this related, in the search pane under HomeGroup on all three computers, I can only see MommaDell.
I've checked and double checked all my router settings, including the IP Address range (192.168.1.2 - 51). I also have a Domain Controller server with two joined workstations on the net, so I have a static IP in order to be able to access the server
and/or workstations remotely when we travel.
That's my story and I'm stuck with it, but I'd sure be grateful for any help with this mess.

In order to help you analyze your issue, we need confirm some situations.
1. Did these 3 computers all join the same HomeGroup or Workgroup?
Yes
2. Domain Controller server with two joined workstations you mentioned, did it mean two of these 3 computer joined the domain environment?
No. Those are separate computers in their own domain, just using the same network.
3. Did you ping via IP address or computer name?
Both, but this morning something is different.
a. MommaDell and M6600 can ping each other both by IP and Name, but can't ping Tower-755 either way.
b. Tower CAN ping both MommaDell and M6600 both ways.
According to your description,
Tower cannot ping MommaDell and M6600.
No, Tower CAN ping both MommaDell AND M6600 both by ip and name.
MommaDell can ping Tower.
M6600 can ping Tower.
Both of the above was true yesterday, but not this morning.
Please check if MommaDell and M6600 could ping each other.

And make sure all of them turn on the network discovery and turn off the firewall temporarily for test:
Network Discovery is ON in all three machines, and Windows firewall is always off because I have ZoneAlarm on all three machines.

Since upgrading to Lion i can no longer see other computers in my network and vice versa. What has gone on?

As the title suggests! I can no longer see any of the computers in my network, Mac or otherwise.
I have checked sharing permissions on all required computers and all seems to be good and have disabled firewalls.
I notice a few people have had similar problems with screen sharing but I am not even seeing another station to pottentialy share a screen with!
