Can't view files on remote server

I have CS3 on my primary machine and CS4 on my newer imac. I am trying to recreate my sites on the imac. I can connect to the server when testing but when I when I try to view repository I can see anything. I keep getting a prompt to set repository settings. I click on the link and enter the ip but I still can't see what's on the server. I only have to upload one file but since I can't see anything, I ended up uploading the entire site again. What info am I entering that I haven't already entered for the site. GoDaddy is the hosting company if that matters. I downloaded their cheat sheet but I don't see anything about repository settings on it.

First define your Local site settings in DW CS4.
Once the Local Site folder is defined, you should be able to log-in to your Remote server and GET files from server.
If you plan to work on the site from 2 computers, use file check-in/check-out.  Ensure that you check-out each time or you won't be able to access remote files from your other computer.

  • Can't See Files On Remote Server

Wondering if anyone has a fix for not seeing files
on remote server... It's even got my host stumped. I have a fairly
large static site which I CAN SEE files via my host's "File
    Manager" 90 Folders 3090 Files 52,336.74KB
But I cannot see files and folders when connected FTP via
    IPSwitch or Dreamweaver 8.
I have followed IPSwitch's troubleshooting steps for this
issue, with no resolve. Emailed them a week ago, still no reply.
I have other sites at the same host (sub-domains of the site
I cannot see), and thoise subdomain sites files and folders show up
fine. With the primary site, even though I cannot "see" the files
and folders, I can still ftp to and from the server (get & put)
    from DW or IPSwitch...

No... I am looking at the correct folders, etc. The host is a
commercial host for Fortune 500's, I fairly confident in their
abilities. They think it might have something to do with long file
names. There is one clue, in that at one time I could view the
files and folders. Since that time it is possible I added a page
with a file name that is too long and is causing the issue. I will
probbaly need to temporarily delete these long file name pages to
see if it's the issue or not. I just thought someone here may have
experienced this. Not being able to view files and folders (even
though you can connect and transfer okay) is a pretty common
troubleshooting topic at the FTP software companies.

  • Suddenly can't put files to remote server (again)

    Hello,
In Dreamweaver 5.5 (OS 10.7) I suddenly can't FTP to the remote server. I had this problem a couple months ago (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5145574#5145574) and it was fixed by the following suggestion:
Close DW.  Reboot your computer. Open DW. If you still cannot FTP to server, go to Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
This worked for me the last time, but unfortunately it hasn't solved the current problem.
At the moment, the updated files go through the normal process of being "put" to the server, but the changes don't appear when I check the live site. I've tried refreshing the page and emptying the cache. The files seem to be uploading to the correct location (they are not being put into a sub folder or anything). I've verified that I can connect to my web server. I haven't changed anything in my site definition and this problem just appeared out of the blue.
Just like when this happened to me before, there are random files that want to synchronise (even though they haven't been updated), but nothing changes on the remote server. I've also tried to synchronize by 'deleting remote files not on local drive', but that doesn't help.
Here is a glimpse of my current FTP log, in case that is useful:
Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

  • Suddenly can't put files to remote server

    Hi there,
In Dreamweaver 5.5 (OS 10.7) I suddenly can't put files to the remote server. I've been using Dreamweaver for just over a year and this has never been a problem before. My site is: www.peawitpress.co.uk
The updated files go through the normal process of being "put" to the server (I don't get an error message or anything when synchronising), but when I check the live site the changes don't appear. I've tried refreshing the page and emptying the cache, but nothing seems to work. I've verified that I can connect to my web server and have verified the root directory and they are both fine.
The only thing that is unusual when synchronising is that (for the past day) the six files in the attached screenshot always want to synchronise (even though they haven't been updated). I deleted them from the site and added them again in case they somehow became corrupted, but they still randomly want to synchronise.
Any suggestions? It seems like there would be an easy solution for this, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks and best wishes,
    Alexandria

This has happened to me a few times in CS6. I think it's a memory thing.
Close DW.  Reboot your computer.  Open DW.
If you still cannot FTP to server, go to Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.

  • Suddenly can't see files on remote server

I am at a loss. I have been managing about 7 or 8 simple
websites for quite a few years using Dreamweaver MX 2004. This
week, I have suddenly lost the ability to see the remote files on
about half of the websites I manage. The files are there when I log
on and look through the hosting service....but is there something I
can do so I can function again in Dreamweaver? I prefer to use it
to access remote files than to have to upload files one by one
    through the hosting company!
    Ideas, suggestions, help appreciated!

have you tried some other ftp client to connect?
can you bypass the router and connect your computer directly
    to the modem?
Do the modem/router have "reset" buttons to return them to
    the default state
    of settings?
that you can't follow a google link to an adobe page leads me
    to think there
    is a major problem.

  • HOw to delete files from remote server?

    Hi,
I want to delete files from a directory on remote server.
I use the following command to delete on current server:
    find $srcdir -mtime +90 -name "COR*.txt" -exec rm -f {} \;
Now, how can I delete files from remote server ?
    Thanks!
    Yogini

    Some possible options:
    1. There exists SSH implementation for Windows.
    2. You can make a workaround. You can setup share for specific/wanted directory.
Then you can mount it on Linux machine and execute command localy and delete files "localy" in mounted directory.
    3. You can setup FTP server on Windows machine and do that remotely via FTP commands.

I had my iView working properly, however when I made a little change and deployed a par file I couldn't preview it anymore. I changed everything back, but it didn't help. Everything is working correctly on my local portal, but not on remote one. Please help!

  • Can't view files with long file names?

Hi, Im using Mac OSX 10.3.9 and I have a problem viewing files on a server that have long file names (i.e over about 20 characters) they do not show up on my mac but when viewed on a PC computer they are all there. Strange thing is though I have another mac on the same network running exactly the same operating system and version and files with long name can be viewed on that system ?? it is some simple preference does anybody know? Any help would be much appreciated. thank you.

Hi, I tried accessing a test file that I have made up with a long name through a browser and through FTP and cannot see it on either one. I can however see it on the other Mac that I have access to that is running the same OS and version etc... and also this file can been viewed on the PC's that are around me....

  • How To read/write file on remote server in java

    Hi All,
How To read/write file on remote server in java? I mean using URL - http://www.xyz.com can I right file to that perticular server.
    Thanks in advance

If your server support a means of uploading files you can.
    A popular means is [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebDAV]
However, by default web server don't allow you upload files, its usually something you need to configure or install.
I suggest you have a look at your web servers documentation.

  • Can i transfer file from application server to lotus server.

    hi
can i transfer file from application server to lotus server.
i m geting file on application server but i want to transefer that file from application server to lotus server.
if yes than give me suggestion.
    thanks in advanced.

    Hello Laxman
If you want to trigger the file transfer from within SAP then you need to execute an <b>external OS command</b> (transaction <b>SM49</b>, <b>SM69</b>).
At the level of the OS (operating system, e.g. Windows, Linux) you need to be able to transfer files to the Lotus server.
Your task is, for example, to write a report executing the external OS command which will be executed at the OS level where the file transfer happens.
    Regards
      Uwe

  • Can't see files/folders on server from windows

i'm not sure if this is related to the ACL issue (not being properly honored in Samba on Leopard), but i'll explain my problem and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction
i've set up file sharing with my server on several Macs and a couple of PCs without a problem, but on one PC, when i connect to the server, i can't see any folders at all on the server in the Explorer window. i also can't move files to the server as it tells me i don't have permissions. i am certain this is set up the same as the other PCs and ensured that the Windows user has file sharing enabled on my server.
please note that i'm fairly new to setting up a server so not too much jargon please!
    cheers
    ric

The problem may be how the CD was formatted. Macs support ISO-9660 better than any other crossplatform format.
Recently Software Architects has improved UDF support on the Mac, though I have yet to test it to see how true their claim is:

  • Can only view file in its blue psd format when I open them in CS6

Can only view file in its blue psd format when I open them in CS6
Is anyone else having this problem?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Can't publish or "put" files to remote server

    Dear All,
I can't publish my website to the remote server, even though everything seems to be working properly with connection to the remote server.  No error messages and the successful connection message appears.  I have emptied out the Safari cache but still do not see the updates appearing on the website.  I'm working with Dreamweaver CS5.5 on a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Very frustrating.
