Can't view from external monitor

You know when you have your DV connected to your mac, when you edit, the LCD on the DV would show you the final output of your project? I've been using that to see what my final output is but suddenly it's not working.
I mean, everything else works great, I double and triple checked my setting under the audio/video setting and the playback output is set to apple firewire pal, but I still can't get anything from my DV. What else should I check?

#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Viewer and External Monitor doesn't playback at same time

When watching clips in the viewer window, they playback fine. But on my external monitor, it only shows the first frame from when it's played. when I stop playback, the external monitor then shows the last frame the Viewer window is stopped on. How can I fix it so that the viewer and external monitor playback the clip at the same time?
At the moment we're digitizing footage with the Offline RT Photo JPEG codec set to 75% quality.
A few days ago we were digitizing footage at 35% quality and that footage plays back fine. We moved to 75% quality at the editor's request. A few days ago we had created a few sample 75% quality tests for the editor to view. I loaded those clips into Final Cut right now and they playback fine as well. So it's all of a sudden just these new clips created yesterday :S.

    Yes.
Forgot to mention that the timeline plays all the footage back properly on both the canvas window and the external monitor. Sorry for not mentioning that sooner.
More discoveries! The playback 'freeze' only happens if I open a clip from the browser into the viewer. If I open a clip from the timeline into the viewer, it plays-back fine!

  • Satellite P100: Can I connect two external monitor to VGA & DVI port at the same time?

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.

  • Can T43 drive 2 *external* monitors?

Hi folks -- this is my first posting and I didn't see this exact question asked before so I thought I'd try the experts! I have an IBM ThinkPad T43, model 1871-4CU, with Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family (according to the Device Manager). I also have a docking station P/N 74P6734. I'm trying to run two external monitors instead of using the laptop's display and a single external monitor, but my system doesn't seem to support this. I can certainly run the display and a single external monitor (off the VGA port on the dock) with no problem, but when if I close the laptop and try to run two external monitors, the Display Settings control panel doesn't seem to recognize the second monitor (run off the DVI port on the dock). The Intel GMA Driver for Mobile control panel also doesn't recognize that a second monitor is attached. I know the second monitor and the DVI cable are fine because if I remove the VGA monitor the DVI one works just fine. My hunch is that since the laptop itself only has a VGA port on it and no DVI, that by design it can only support one external monitor at a time and not two. I was hoping, though, that since the dock has both ports that I'd be able to to drive two external monitors (again, just two external monitors, not those two plus the laptop's display for a total of three). Am I correct in thinking I can't get around this or maybe there's something I'm overlooking -- like a driver update -- that would allow me to drive two external monitors? Thanks in advance for your help here!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The reason your T41 works with DVI is it has the ATI 7500 discrete graphics. The original poster had a T43 with the Intel integrated graphics which did not support DVI.
I don't have my T42 with the ATI card with me so I cannot check using it on my 1680x1050 DVI monitor but I know I have used it with an external VGA 1440x900 monitor.
Did you upgrade to the latest driver?

  • Can't View on NTSC Monitor

For some reason, I cannot view sequences on my NTSC monitor. When I go to log and capture, it does play back and I can see it on the computer, but whenever I go to "External Video," it is selected to off and even if I change it to "All Frames," it stays on off. Thank you!

If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.

If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast qualit Shane

  • Can't get F7 external monitor switch to work on 3000 N100

I am trying to connect an external monitor to my Lenovo 3000 N100 but I can't get Fn-F7 to switch monitors. It does nothing at all. Can anyone help me? Running XP SP3.

Hi Guys. Thanks for your help. I've had a little success but still not fully working. I've done a complete update, including BIOS, Power Manager, Power Management Driver, System Interface Driver, Hotkey Driver and finally Presentation Director. Presentation Director wasn't working at all before, and now it is. It comes up when I press Fn-F7 and gives me the option to switch between "Notebook Only", "Same Display on notebook and monitor", "Extended display across notebook and monitor" and "Extended display with "Presenter View Enabled" (I don't understand the last one, it seems to be the same as the next-to-last).
However if I click "Fn-F7 settings" and select "Switch display output from the Notebook LCD to external monitor to both (and then repeat)" then subsequent Fn-F7 presses do nothing at all.
It has given me what I need, which is the same display on both monitors, but it would be nice if the Fn-F7 toggle worked as well.
It would also be nice if I could switch to external monitor only, which I still can't do.
    Any more suggestions?

  • CS5 Playback Settings grayed out and no longer can set playback on external monitor.

I like to view my projects while editing on an external monitor but the Playback Settings are grayed out. I've done all my prior projects with external monitor display enabled with no problems and can go back to a prior projects completed and view them using an external playback monitor.  For some reason, the Playback Settings on my latest project are grayed out and I'm not able to set Desktop Video Display During Playback.
The last project worked on was about 3 months ago. Last week, I started working on two new projects and noticed that I wasn't able to set playback to my external monitor. All my devices are hooked up and I can review older projects on the external monitor but can't set two new projects to use display on the external monitor.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Problem solved. My fault.
The Sequence Preset Settings selected must support the device the external monitor is connected to. In my case, IEEE 1394 firewire. I corrected the new project to the correct Sequence Settings and can now view playback on the external monitor.

"The Desktop Video 9.7.5 software update allows users to take advantage of many new features in the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop applications such as powerful new editing timelines and shortcuts and audio mixing with Adobe Premiere Pro® CC and new creative and visual effects tools with Adobe After Effects® CC."
So everything should be covered on that front. And as I listed, I was getting playback out of AE CC, so I feel it is solely an issue in Premiere. That was worth checking out though since CC is so new. Thanks for replying.

  • Can I use an external monitor as an extension to my workspace

Could anyone please tell me if I can use an external monitor such as an apple 20” or 30” display as an extension to my workspace. I am using an apple 17”1.5 power book & I would like to drag & drop[p photos etc. from one monitor to another etc.
    17"powerbook 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

yes, when you connect an external display you can either mirror the laptop display, or have it act as an extended desktop
this needs the mac to support extended desktop rather than just mirroring, for instance i think ibooks can only mirror but powerbooks can do both

  • Powerbook G4 15" screen blank, can't connect to external monitor

    Hi,
I've had a 15" Powerbook G4 for about 2 years now, but about a year ago, I switched it on and the display was white. I could hear the startup chime, and everything seemed to be working fine underneath, but the screen was just white.
So, recently I took it to an Apple store and in the end, they told me that the LCD was broken and that they would have to replace it for the Powerbook to work properly. As this would cost over £400, which I can't afford, I just decided to try and use an external monitor with it, as they had done in the store to check it.
So, I bought a DVI-VGA adapter from eBay, received it this morning, and tried to connect the Powerbook to my CRT monitor using the adapter.
Basically, I plugged the VGA cable from the monitor into the adapter, and plugged that into the Powerbook.
However, the external monitor just stays blank, as if it isn't connected to the Powerbook.
Please, can you tell me if I'm doing anything wrong, and if not, suggest why it might not be working.
    Thanks,

This "last" solution worked for my PB15 osx 10.4.11 (somebody can help you; it is at your own risk!)
    1. set in Quartz Debug: a) Quartz 2D extreme disabled; b) Automatic Beam Synchronization
    2. turn off PB and unplug everything
    3. remove battery
    4. remove all memory modules (your 1GB RAM)
    5. plug AC power
    6. turn on PB ( beeps; white LED blinks)
    7. turn off PB
    8. reset PMU (my PB model: shiftctrl+altpower)
    9. turn off PB
    10. unplug AC power
    11. install all memory modules
    12. install battery
    13. plug AC power
    14. turn on PB and pray
    Good luck.

  • Viewing on external monitor....needs rendering first???

    Hi there!
I'm using FCE2.0 on a G4 dual 1Ghz, a dataVideo DAC-100 converter and a CRT Sony monitor w/ rca ins. I wish to have playback occur on both the canvas and the external monitor, but i find the only way the image will show on the monitor is if i change the Video mode in the View Menu from RealTime to "FireWire". It is now that just about my entire sequence gets red bars and needs to be rendered before seeing anything! IF i render (which will take a while) both will playback as i wish. Is this typical? Do i have something backwards?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Breckman

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for replying.
Yea, i guess i didn't really examine the areas needing to be rendered closely. They are indeed areas w/ effects, motion and such. The areas that don't require rendering do in fact play both on the TV and the canvas. I guess i got the answer to my question.
    Thanks again!

  • Viewing on external monitor with ADVC-100 and s video

I am trying to view my canvas on a external monitor. I have a canopus ADVC-100 and i am using the firewire input and the s video as the output in the back. When I try to set it up and i select view all frames, but when i go to the video output menu it says my firewire device is missing. Any hints or tips on what i am doing wrong. I am using the s-video because the monitor only has a components input available, the RCA's are already occupied.

Is the ADVC powered? When you connect firewire to the back of the unit, it gets powered by that connector, but the firewire jack on the front is only 4-pin and doesn't support power.
If you have a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, try connecting it to the back of the ADVC110 and then the front of the box should light up, indicating power.
I'm having a similar issue. I can print to tape via the Canopus box, but I want to be able to drive a monitor with it just so I can have an NTSC monitor while I'm editing. I can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

  • How can I make an external monitor the main display?

I have a mid 2007 iMac running OS X 10.4. The internal monitor is broken and all it shows is a bunch of lines.
I have connected an external Samsung monitor. All I see in it is a desktop background: no icons, no menus, no dock. I believe this is because the display is in extended mode and the main display is the internal monitor. I cannot use the System Preferences Panel to change this, because the internal monitor is useless.
I have a second, newer iMac, from which I can login to the first via ssh.
Is there a way to make the external monitor the main display from the command line?
(I have though of editing the Preferences List, but I do not know what to change and how to change it. I do have Developers Tool installed and thus can access the Preferences List Editor.)
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Gustavo J. Mata

    Hi everybody!
To solve the problem I wrote a script that creates a Systems Preferences windows which shows up in the external monitor. Once this happens the configuration can be changed manually, to make the external monitor the main display. This is what I did:
First I created a user with automatic login in the faulty machine. To do this:
1.- Restarted this malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
2.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
    3.- Created the user.
    4.- Restarted both machines normally
Next I wrote a script which opens System Preferences and shifts its window to the left:
5.- In the working machine I saved the script as a 'Run only' application:
    tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
    set x0 to 1080
    set y0 to 200
    set dx to 800
    set wx to 600
    set wy to 600
    set the bounds of the first window to {x0, y0, x0 + dx + wx, y0 + wy}
    end tell
6.- Then uploaded it to the iMac with the faulty screen.
    7- Shut down both machines.
Then I added the script application to the automatic login user in the faulty machine:
8.- Restarted the malfunctioning iMac in Firewire Target mode.
9.- Rebooted the working iMac using the other machine as startup disk.
10.- In System Preferences added the script to login items.
    11.- Restarted both machines.
The System Preferences window now showed in the external terminal. I was able to go into the Displays pane and set the external monitor as the main display (dragging the white bar to it).
    Cheers,
    Gustavo J. Mata

  • Tecra M1 extended view to external Monitor

Hopefully I can find some help - I got an M1, Win2K installed and would like to have the desktop/view expanded to a connected external Monitor.
Does anyone know if this is possible with Win2K ? I have seen this feature enabled when running WinXP - however, I would assume this should work as well under Win2K.
    cheers... markus

    Hi
I dont see any reason, why it should not work. On the Toshiba download page, you can find all drivers, tools and utilities designed Windows 2000 OS. If your unit is installed properly, you can use Fn + F5 key combination to switch on external display.
There is also another possibility to do the same thing. In display properties go into settings tab. Mark the second display and activate the option called Extend my Windows desktop on to this monitor.
Please let me know if everything works fine.
