Can't view HDCP with HDMI on Apple TV... Why?

We rented our first ... and second movie in HD on the ATV. Then it was ready to view. Press Play... Notice: Can't watch this movie in HD with the HDMI as it does not support HDCP - please use other cables. Not verbatim but that was the message. What is this? Why does this warning not tell you before you rent? and Do I really need to buy some other cables to overcome this- in my case not very practical as I am using most of the other channels...

PS. For the rest I think this is an excellent service/option and very easy to use.

Older TVs w/HDMI or DVI may not support HDCP(high definition copyright protection). Without this, you won't be able to view the movies, you may need to plug in component video and rca audio cables and switch to that input.
Another thing to try is switching the output resolution of the AppleTV -- for example, if you are at 1080p, try dropping to 1080i.

Actually, everyone missed one point, when a device is priced, the cost of icloud storage space for that device is also included in it that is why they are able to give you 5gb each for each user ID, in nutshell there is nothing free coming with apple device purchase, it is paid for. What they are trying by giving only 5gb per user ID irrespective of the number of devices used is pure broadlight looting, they take money from you when you buy each device and give you nothing, This is a case of goods and services bought but not fully deliverd ie apple can be suied for discreminatory treatment towards it's users. I wonder why no one tried this yet in America where everyone sue everyone for petty things..... there is no one to take up this issue? . if tim got any love for the guys who shell out money for the devices his company makes, he should be implimenting this as priority before someone wake up from sleep and sue him.

Restore the device to factory settings with iTunes.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are trying to log into with your Apple ID, or what exactly you are seeing (alert message, directions, etc) when you try to do so. Can't sign in with my old apple id. and support is a joke. I want to update my faber acoustical but can't sign in with my new apple id I need the old apple id, but no matter what I do it won't take it I do remember it but it still won't go. or work I guess I'll contact fare acoustical.

I can't sign in with my old email and password because it has been deleted to make the new one, so how do I get the previous apps to upgrade, if possible? I have read a lot about using the same password for all apple emails or id's, but can you go backwards and add the old one back in. Again I am not sure I am making this clear enough so perhaps that's why I can't get good response.

Yep - TWO separate Apple IDs that have the SAME email address - when I change one's password, theo ther changes as well - CRAZY

As we are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple, I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post - it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum, unless you like spam emails.
All iTunes downloads are tied to the account that downloaded them, and iTunes accounts have to have a unique email address - you are sure that you created a second account ? If you try to create a new account with an email address that is already being used as a primary email address you get a prompt saying so, and to either log in with the existing account or to use a different address for the new account
Have you invited your icloud.com account to be part of the family ? Adding email addresses to be an account's alternate email addresses does not make its purchases available to the account, the account that made the purchases needs to be part of the family.

Hi, Im using Mac OSX 10.3.9 and I have a problem viewing files on a server that have long file names (i.e over about 20 characters) they do not show up on my mac but when viewed on a PC computer they are all there. Strange thing is though I have another mac on the same network running exactly the same operating system and version and files with long name can be viewed on that system ?? it is some simple preference does anybody know? Hi, I tried accessing a test file that I have made up with a long name through a browser and through FTP and cannot see it on either one. I can however see it on the other Mac that I have access to that is running the same OS and version etc... and also this file can been viewed on the PC's that are around me....

Yes you can, and it's then up to you whether to have the same the same or different content to the older one. When you sync to it your computer for the first time it may be best to give it a different name, just so that you can distinguish them.

Then it seems like you may have set up a new Apple ID. You didn't change the Email address associated with the old Apple ID. Purchased content is always tied to the ID that was used to buy that content. If the old ID is still coming up, you will have to continue to use that ID and password in order to update those apps.
Did you try using the old password with that ID? How did you change your ID today.... what support are to referring to that you changed the ID from/with?

Ain't gonna happen. The 2G does not have the necessary hardware to support iOS5. The "Check for Update" process checks to see what version of Ipod you have. If your iPod does not meet the upgrade requirements iTunes will tell you....
