Can't view .MOV files in IE 7 or IE 8
I can't view any quick time files through IE7 or IE8 when trying to access them through one of our FTP sites. When I go to our ftp site and click on a .mov, there is a 3-5 second pause then i get the Quicktime logo with a queston mark through it.
If I load the file onto my local drive, it plays just fine. If I bring up Firefox and click on the .mov file through our FTP site. It plays just fine. I'm not sure what else to look at for the possible problem. I have Quicktime ver. 7.5
Robert
Your post did not specifically say which version of Photoshop abnd Premiere Elements you have - I am guessing that you have version 9.
For both versions 8 and 9, the Organizer component is the same for both Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements. So since your specific question is about video in the Adobe Elements Organizer, I suggest that you also post this question on the Adobe Premiere Elements forum because it has more participants knowledgeable in video (and its technical aspects such as codecs). Can't view .mov file with quicktime
Hello. I need help viewing a .mov file with Quicktime 7.5. It was recorded on a Canon Vixia HV30 camcorder and given to me on a dvd. But when I try to view the .mov file with Quicktime, I can hear the audio but the screen is black. Sometimes, it asks me to continue to the following link:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=Windows&ctype=696d64 63&csubtype=69636f64
I'm not that computer savvy - what is wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!Sorry. My "then" (above) should have been "they".
They sent you a data DV containing the "source" from the camera and the HDV codec isn't available on your PC so you can't view the file.
Ask the authors to convert the file using H.264 Video codec (or others) so your Windows version of QuickTime can play the file. -
Can't view .mov files in Organizer
Hi
I am in the process of moving my video footage from iMovie (Mac) to a Windows 7 PC with Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.
On my Mac I have converted the files to .mov with the 'photo jpeg' codec, which seems to be a fair compromise between size and quality. (Sadly, iMovie has converted all of it to Apple Intermediate Codec on import, which seems to be absolutely impossible to handle on a PC, so I have to do something, since I don't have the original files anymore ...)
On my PC, the files play nicely in QuickTime - they even played in Windows Media Player before I installed QuickTime. (However, I don't see thumbnails/miniatures of the files in Explorer.)
But ... when I import to Elements Organizer, I can neither play the files nor do I see any thumbnails. In stead, I get this error message:
'The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the requiered compressor/decompressor (codec) installed'
Which I don't understand, since my system plays the files perfectly on itself.
If I try to add these files to a Premiere project, they do play back (but look awful), and I am able to export a clip (which looks OK).
But the whole point for me of using Photoshop/Premiere Elements was to organize my stills and video in the same application.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!Regarding the quality in Premiere Elements, do the MOV files have the correct dimensions?
For example, you expect 1920x1080 but are actually getting 1620x1080. That can happen if you forgot to unlock the aspect ratio during conversion on the MAC. You type in 1920 for horizontal width and then type in 1080 for vertical height, but don't see that the horizontal width was automatically adjusted to 1620. And off you go. That can make the video look bad in Premiere Elements, although it shouldn't affect whether you can view the files in the Organizer.
The MOV files shouldn't play back in Windows Media Player on a PC (at least on my system they don't), unless you have installed a codec pack or another application has been installed that installed a quicktime codec that allows playing MOV files in Windows Media Player.
When you are in Windows Explorer with the view set to Thumbnails, if you don't get a thumbnail image for the MOV files, you might be able to fix it with the Codec Tweak Tool. After installing and running it, click on the Thumbnail button and select the MOV option if it isn't selected. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Codec_Tweak_Tool. I'm not sure that will have any effect on the view in the Organizer, but it's worth a shot. -
How can I view .mov files on my ipad?
How can I view my .mov spherical panoramas on my ipad?
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Hi, I periodically will click on files labeled as .mov, but when QuickTime starts up I get a message saying a plug-in is needed. Then since I don't knowwhat to download and I try the file again the error message doesn't show, but the QuickTime windo opens like it is going to play the movie, but all the happens is the progress bar along the bottom moves but no video or sound occurs.
I thought .mov files were made for QuickTime? I don't know what plug-in of all the ones listed I'm supposed to download.
The file I want to open is:
http://willametteexplorer.info/media/lrgtrajchg.mov
It is found at this site:
http://willametteexplorer.info/index.php
Thank you for your time!QuickTime can use plug-ins called components to create different types of compressed media. Some older components such as Intel's Indeo codecs were available for Mac OS 9 but are not available for Mac OS X (although MPlayer can play Indeo 3 in OS X.)
Here's a list of components and some info. If you identify what type of video encoding was used in the files it will be much easier to decide which component to dowload...

Using Aperture 3 and Lion I can no longer view .mov file
Using Aperture 3 and Lion I can no longer view .mov files from a Canon G11. I get a thumbnil which is a triangle with !. If I right click I can open it with Quick time. I cannot import any of the files into iMovie as it does not recognize them in Aperture or iPhoto. From other dicussions I tried removing 3ivvxVideoCodec.componenet from Quiktime Library and retarted with no success, so iI restored the file.
You are welcome;
there is another problem with videos, that might apply in your your case, when you reimport the videos, after you deinstalled the codec - the location you are importing from, and the permission settings, see this post:
Re: Aperture cannot read newly imported video since Lion upgrade.

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore. It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version. Please help? I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -

I have had a new ipad swapped under warranty, and have reloaded all software from scratch.
When I get the email with the video file. The file is an attachment, I click the file, it downloads, then when I click it to view the video I get a white screen with the file name in the middle and the words quick time movie. And nothing happensYou should download VLC and try viewing the .mov file with it - for troubleshooting.

IPod touch can't synch .mov files with iTunes.
My iPod touch can't synch .mov files with iTunes. The error message says that the files were not transfered because they can't be read on my device. I'm not able to transfer any mp4 files, either. These are my own short animations, small files (under 2MB). Home sharing is on. I'm trying to synch with the latest version of iTunes on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. Thanks.
See:

We can play a .mov file (a full-length film created in final cut pro) but cannot actually open it in QuickTime. We get the error message saying that a file is missing, and the movie can't play properly without the file. The thing is, we can play the film, we just can't open it to move it to another drive. Help?
Also, can the lost file (which was deleted) be recovered from a Mac HD or an external hard drive?

Sounds like you created a "Reference" file here. I.e., a "Reference" file is a file that tells the player how to play the data contained in a "Resource" file. When you try to open the "Reference" file in the QT Player app, the first thing the player does is check to see if the "Resource" data file is is still available where it is supposed to be. (I.e., moving/deleting the resource file or moving reference file without moving the resource file to maintain the relative path between the two will generate the error message you mentioned.)
Also, can the lost file (which was deleted) be recovered from a Mac HD or an external hard drive?
That depends. Deleting a file does not actually erase the data immediately. Instead, the operating system just tells the system directory that the space containing the movie data is available for reuse if/when needed. As time passes, the chance that some of the data sectors will be re-written by other data continuously increases. To restore the file normally requires use of a special utility that both locates and restores all of the linked sectors containing the "deleted" movie data in their correct order. Other methods of restoring files would depend on the software you routinely have active on your system. For instance, do you use "TimeMachine?" or orther software that automatically backs up your data periodically? If so, then follow the instructions for your particular application to recover a deleted file. -

Can't open movie files in browser or email
Hi, I'm not sure if this issue has been dealt with yet; however, I can't open movie files contained in emails or in my Safari Browser--even ones labeled as QT files. I am running Quick Time 7.0.4 on my 10.3.9 eMac. This is a recent problem, as I didn't have this difficulty until the last month or so. I had unchecked the "Open Safe Files" box in Safari's preferences some time ago as a precaution against a virus/worm, but rechecked it after the last one or two Security Updates. What else should I do to resume opening movie files? QT Player runs just fine with movie trailers, etc, but not in mails or the browser.
eMac, iBook Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1 Ghz G4, 768 mb ramUnder the Safari Help menu choose "Installed Plug-ins". This will confirm your QuickTime install.
Under Safari Preferences/Security make sure you've got plug-ins enabled.
Try dragging the email attachment to the Desktop and see if it plays from there. -
