Can't view newly created folders in Mail

So here's my interesting problem, when I create new mailboxes in mail, I can no longer see them. They appear in the ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes folder, but are inaccessible in mail. The entire "On My Mac" portion in the side bar is grayed out.

ahh so easy when you know how! thanks for your help appreciate it.

  • Can't rename newly created Folders

I updated to Tiger 10.4.9. Now I cannot rename any folders, new or existing. If I do "Get Info," the screen goes blank then returns to regular without changes to the folder.

    Gordon,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds like your problem may be either a Finder or Contextual Menu issue.
Before you try anything else, Repair Disk Permissions.
If it is a Finder issue, it may be helpful to find the com.apple.finder.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check for normal finder behavior.
If it is a Contextual Menu problem, can you identify any corrupted or incompatible third party files in the following folders:?
    Macintosh HD/System/Library/Contextual Menu Items
    Macintosh HD/Library/Contextual Menu Items
    Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Contextual Menu Items
If so, you may be able to uninstall/reinstall the associated application.
Consider temporary sequential manual removal/isolation of the suspect file to verify CM functionality and finder stability

  • Can I create folders in mail? How?

I'm new to the IPhone community, and need a little help. I have a Mac desktop,  so I am familiar with Mac.
For some reason, I can't figure out how to create folders in Mail, on my Iphone4. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

You create folders on your mail server, then sync them to your phone. Folders cannot be created directly on the phone itself. This requires an exchange or IMAP account, as such is not possible with a POP account. Folders created in the Mail App on your computer will not sync to your phone.

Can I create folders in mail?

At the moment you can't do it directly in the Mail app. If it's an IMAP type account then you should be able to login to your account on a browser and create them there, and they should then appear in the Mail app. If it's a POP type account then unfortunately you're stuck with what you've got.

Can I create folders in Mail in the iPad?

If you're fortunate enough to have an ISP that also has mail via Microsoft Exchange, you can kill the original account and re-create it as an Microsoft Exchange account. That will bring whatever folders you have set up in the mail's webmail app across to your iPad.
The only downside is that you can only have one Exchange account, so if you already have one set up, you're stuck. But Frontier has my Internet business, so I was able to set up my second account via Exchange.  It's not perfect, but it works.
It's a way to get by until they figure out that POP limitation... :-)

  • Hi  I can't seem to create folders to save emails in.  I have added a new mailbox, but it doesn't show up on the left of the screen.  What am I doing wrong??  Thanks

HI.  I can't seem to create folders to save emails in.  I have added (several!) new mail boxes, but they do not appear in the menu on the left of the screen.  How can I access/view them?  Many thanks

Well, just to confirm the process, open Mail and click on the word "Mailbox" up at the top pf the screen in the menu bar.  Then click on "New Mailbox" in the list.  In the window that opens, enter the name you want for this new mailbox.  The new Mailbox will be located over in the left hand column under the heading there, "On My Mac".  If you cannot see the mailbox there, then it is "hidden" under "On My Mac". You will need to hover your mouse cursor over the phrase "On My Mac" and just to the right the word "Show" will faintly appear.  Click on "Show" and your Mailboxes under "On My Mac" will appear.

How do you create folders in mail app? Is there a way in 3GS IOS 5?

This is very disappointing, and i find it hard to believe that Apple would do this intentionally. It worked on previous versions of email application. Apple please don't dishonor the image of Steve Jobs this way. Fix this right away. I can't think of anything more basic than being able to organize the email that you download into folders. This absolutely ***** ... What a stinker.....
I can't think of anything more idiotic than invoking the memory of Jobs here. Are you truly unaware that the iPad and iOS is pretty much exactly the way he wanted it to be, just like about everything else Apple?
As to your claim of "previous email applications", certainly none in iOS ever did that, and the only folders you can create and manipulate in POP accounts are those local to only that single machine or platform, not particularly helpful or desirable in today's environments.

  • How do I create folders for mail stationary and organize my stationary?

I would like to add more folders to my stationary and organize it better. I bought some additional stationary from the App store but there is 146 templates all under one folder named custom. I know how to make the folder in application support>apple>mail>stationary>....but I do not know how to move the stationary from the custom folder to the newly created folders. Thanks

application support>apple>mail>stationary>Apple>Contents>Resources>then all the preloaded folders show up.
If i click and drap the only option it gives me is to drag it to favorites.

  • Why do newly created folders have random creation dates? This is on a Seagate GoFlex USB drive.

Why do newly created folders have random creation dates? This is on a Seagate GoFlex USB drive. Is there a fix? It appears to work fine in the internal drive.

So your hard drive is setup for a PC using NTFS and you have the NTFS-3G driver installed (I wonder which version of the driver). I know many users have reported problems with file transfer speeds being slower on a Mac, but this is understandable due to the 3rd party driver you have to use to access the drive.
There are other higher performance drivers available for a price, like Tuxera but their site shows they haven't updated their drivers since late in 2010. They do say that they are 64 bit drivers but they want about $37 for it. They maintain a support site that has quite a bit on info about NTFS-3G issues.
I assume you've got a freeware or open-source version of the driver from Seagate. It's probably OK for occasional use to access the NTFS drive, but not the way you want to use a drive all the time on MacOS.
Fat32 is compatible with both OS's, but there are some restrictions like not being able to use video files larger than 4GB (actually 1byte smaller than 4GB) and the 2TB partition size limit. Both HFS+ and NTFS have advantages due to the way the OS's can optimize transfer speeds and reliability, but a drive that's plugged into many machines is always going to have compromises until we get native support for NTFS (possible in the future because it's already been tested), or the Windows side supports HFS+ (probably not going to happen). There are programs/drivers on both sides that can accomplish this compatibility, but not native solutions at this time.
Using 3rd party drivers could mean problems with some drives that don't work well or completely break with a system update in the future. Apple doesn't seem to try to break compatibility features, but they do control the transfer protocols and optimize the OS for reliability. Flash drives are mostly formatted with Fat32 and they seem to work well for data transfer with just about any OS.
For me, I've chosen to use a NetGear ReadyNAS NV+  in an Xraid configuration for local storage and Time Machine support, and Dropbox for some files that I can easily transfer to Mac, PC, or Linux by just using a web browser, and I quit installing proprietary drivers to any computer, Mac or PC. I've also got a couple of the USB Fat32 laptop drives (250 to 320 GB) laying around for large file transfers if needed.
Sorry, I got a long way from your original Folder Creation Date issue.

  • Cannot save in newly created folders

When I connect to the SMB server thing, for some reason, I cannot save to newly created folders that my co-workers make. With I right click on the folder that my co-worker created, it says "You have custom access". And I cannot save my Indesign files in that folder. But when I create a folder, everyone is able to save in that folder. When others create a folder, they are able to save in it as well, except for me. This has never been an issue before until recently.
Do I have permission issues? I ran Disk Utility to fix my permissions but no success. Help please. I just want to save my Indesign files to the server for everyone to access.
The server we are using is the Mac Mini Snow Leopard server thing.
    Thanx!

have you tried shutting down your mac, restarting and trying again with a newly created folder. do you have the same issue then?

Using home sharing, can I view (stream) TS folders as I would with DVD Player? Must they be be converted to smaller H264 first (don't want to...too many, takes too long)?  Does it place more demand to stream TS folders on the WiFi that iTV is hooked up to, as opposed to the smaller file size h264?  Can it be done at all?
It is the deciding point for me in purchasing iTV.

No, all content needs to be in Mpeg4 format and in your iTunes library.
