Can't View on NTSC Monitor

For some reason, I cannot view sequences on my NTSC monitor. When I go to log and capture, it does play back and I can see it on the computer, but whenever I go to "External Video," it is selected to off and even if I change it to "All Frames," it stays on off. Thank you!

Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast qualit Shane

  • Moved from AVID to FCP...viewing on NTSC monitor question

I am in the process of migrating to FCP studio from AVID with mojo. With the mojo I used a S-video out to my NTSC monitor. Now with my FCP system, I have to always have my DSR-25 on and use the composite out to the monitor. Is there a better way? I am using FW and only editing in DV for the time being. A AJA IO would give me an S out but I do not have RS-422 control with my deck. Plus, that is a lot of bucks to pay just to get a clean video out to my monitor.
Any ideas? This switch to FCP is somewhat painful...but in the long run I feel it will be worth it.
    Thomas

If you have a deck you don't need the Canopus....if it is a firewire deck all you have to do is connect it to a monitor and you are good to go.

  • Can't view from external monitor

You know when you have your DV connected to your mac, when you edit, the LCD on the DV would show you the final output of your project? I've been using that to see what my final output is but suddenly it's not working.
I mean, everything else works great, I double and triple checked my setting under the audio/video setting and the playback output is set to apple firewire pal, but I still can't get anything from my DV. What else should I check?

  • Can I use a NTSC monitor with my European MacBook Pro?

    Hi
I moved from Europe to the US and took my Macbook Pro with me. Now I need a second computer monitor (thinking Dell u2410). Can I buy one here in the US or will the whole PAL vs. NTSC thing have an effect?
    Thanks for helping
    Cheers
    Jakob

It will be fine. A Dell U2410 or any other monitor will work fine with your MacBook Pro.
PAL vs. NTSC is not a consideration in computer displays. It really pertains only to video encoding (as in movies/DVDs/TV broadcasts), not the video output from the miniDisplayPort on your MacBook Pro.
Also, FYI, you can play both PAL and NTSC videos/DVDs on your MacBook Pro and show them on your external monitor.

  • How can I view an external monitor in FCP (Lion)?

  • Help - can't view clips in monitor

I'm running iMovie4 and suddenly can't see any of my clips in the monitor. Just get a black screen. consequently can't edit or play them at all. What's happened?

    Hi l
Most common origin to this is:
    • Running low on free space on the Start-up hard disk
less 5Gb - nothing should work OK
5 - 10Gb might work slow and instable
25Gb free space - my goal after importing material to my movie
    else
There are several different origins to this. I would.
    • delete the iMovie pref file
    • run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    • start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then
run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
    • start a new account and log into this and re-try
    • remove third party plug-ins if any new is added
    • remove resently added new fonts.
Try one at a time and see if it works.
    Q:
    • How much free space is there on Your int hard disk
    • Is there any ext devices connected
    • Mac OS X.4.?, iMovie v. 6.0.3 ? and QuickTime version ?
    • Did You put in any third party plug-ins to iMovie or into QT ?
    • is you Mac as "factory delivered"?
    • or did you install a new iLife version?
    • or did you de-install any files/apps, e.g. using "Multilingual" etc. pp
                (from Karsten)
    • other programs that interferes like < Unsanity APE >
    < FileVault > etc.
    • I finally copied the iMovie folder in the other user's library to my library
and I dont know why, but it fixed it! (skcomp123)
    1. Sequre that there are at least 20Gb free space on the internal hard disk.
    2. Try not using any external hard disk
    3. Versions I would use: Mac OS X.4.? + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 7.0.4 (I think)
QT v 7.1.6 I guess can give problems - MY personal opinion
    4. Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
    and
    -->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    5. Run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
    6. Start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
    7. Start a new account and log into this and re-try.

  • Fonts OK in viewer and NTSC monitor, but jagged in canvas and NTSC monitor

I've had this problem before, and this time it's mind-boggling.
All name keys created in Livetype 2, upper field dominant.
FCP7 sequence is HD 8-bit ProRes422, field dominance set to "none".
Outputting via Aja LHi card and HDMI cable.
Some keys are perfect (with all the smae settings) and others are not!
I have tried setting field dominance to "none" for both fonts and sequence,
    but no luck.
    Thanks for your help!

    I found it!
I had to change the field dominance in the browser window to match sequence.  Lookin' good!

  • Problems viewin external ntsc monitor

I can only view the external monitor when I use the print to video function. When I'm editing there is no video showing on the external monitor. The video out is set to Apple Fire wire NTSC. I am using the ADVC-100 as the conduit to the monitor. I have tried both DV-NTSC and DV-NTSC- Firewire Basic in Easy Setup.
    Please help
    Thank you

Make sure you have the setting correct on the box. It should be recognized any time it is connected. Trash your preferences and set it up correctly. Use the DV Converter setting, none other.

  • NTSC monitor as second monitor??

    INTEL Tower, dual.
I'm running a Cinema display, and another 16:9 LCD display. Is there any way I can use a SONY NTSC monitor as my second display coming out of the DVI? Replacing the 2nd LCD of course.
And without having to reduce my Cinema display to a VGA resolution?
    All ears,
    Ben

One piece of information was unclear based on your wording so i will assume that you DO have a dual DVI graphics card in the tower. If this assumption is incorrect, just let me know.
Steps: -Attach both monitors into their separate DVI ports in the graphics card on your computer.
    -Go to System Preferences>Displays.
    -Click Detect Displays.
-Go to arrangement and uncheck the mirror displays box.
-Arrange them however you would like; the primary display will be fixed in the middle and the secondary display will be free to move anywhere around the primary display.
    That should do it!
    Any questions?

  • How can I view on external NTSC monitor in PRCS6?

NOTE: I've aksed this quesion before on this forum and followed the kind suggestions given, however, I have not yet been successful. Note that I can view my timeline on my external broadcast monitor just fine in FCP .. anyone??

    Hi Steven,
    Thanks for jumping in.
I cannot find "Enable Transmit" anywhere under any menu ... just for clarity, I have CS6, not PRCC.
As a side note - not sure why this should be an issue at all, and why it is not readily explained by Adobe ... there does not seem to be any aswers anywhere from Adobe, or online also for that matter. Seriousely, anyone who's an editor is going to want to view their work in an extenral NTSC monitor, and not on the computer display ...
    Many thanks

  • Viewing on external NTSC monitor

Here is my setup, I have a Dual 2.7 GHz G5 with a X800XT 256 MB video card with ADC and DVI outs. I had an older card in there with 2 DVI's connectors and one of them had a DVI to Video Adapter to the NTSC and all was fine.
When I got the new video card I had to plug the LCD into the DVI connector and I installed an older ATI Radeon PCI card to runt he NTSC monitor. Not sure what model the the older card is but it does have an svideo out and DVI out. I have tried with the NTSC monitor plugged into the DVI connector with the DVI to Video adapter and plugged directly into the svideo out. Plugged into the DVI and adaptor the video is distorted and unusable plugged in directly to the Svideo port the video works fine but I can't get Final Cut or anything else to recognize it as the NTSC video out device.
My thought is that either the PCI card I have is too old for the Apps to recognize it, or that the Apps with only work with the primary AGP graphics Card.
Has anyone else had this problem? and is there an easy solution?
I have a ADC to DVI adaptor on order to give my new video card dual DVI outputs hopping that will fix the issue.
    thanks
    Ken

Easy solution...don't do this. Route the signal thru your deck or camera:

  • Viewer won't output to NTSC monitor in FCP5.1

    Hello!
I was used to being able to view my clips in the viewer on my ntsc monitor in HD, since upgrading to FCPStudio5.1.1, I can't seem to find an option for this, the manual mentions none, and a search provided no answer related to the viewer. I am able to watch the timeline just fine on my ntsc monitor.
Is this a new change with FCP5?
    Thanks!

I am connected to a Sony mediaconverter via firewire.
It connects to my tv monitor. External video is set to all frames. After refreshing a/v devices, the viewer will now output to the screen when using "gang" setting. If I use sync off, I get current frame its stopped on. Open gives nothing. Is there a way to make gang the default so I don't have to set it for each clip?
    Thanks

  • Can I use a Dell W3706MC 37" LCD HDTV as an external NTSC Monitor?

    Hello,
I was considering buying this dell TV as a second monitor for my studio as i mostly do audio post production and score music (this size monitor would be excellent for working on scores in my case) on a full time basis but I am expanding into film editing as well.
My question is can i use this as an external NTSC monitor for FCP 4.5HD and version 5? Any help would greatly be appriciated. You can view the tech specs of this TV at http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/lcd_w3706mc?c=ca&cs =CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs

While it might be fine for corporate video or other non-broadcast work, it won't be appropriate for broadcast work. For that you need to buy a broadcast monitor.
The reason is that if you take 20 TVs of various models, and put them side by side (say you went to Circuit City or Best Buy), you wouldn't see the same image twice. They all would be slightly different. Even if you calibrated them, they might all look slightly different. But put 20 broadcast monitors side by side, all calibrated, and you will see exactly the same image and color representation.
