Can't view PDF files in browser without disabling add-on.

Hi,
I have a situation where the website i'm using tries to open a PDF file on screen/in browser, but unfortunately it doesn't actually open, i just get a grey screen. The only way around this is by disabling the adobe reader add-on.
The only problem is, another piece of software that we use requires this adobe reader enabled to work, so I need a solution.
Can anyone advise? I'm currently on Internet Explorer 9.

Hi Gary,
Yes, you can by using the plugin from Schubert.
Plugin PDF Safari
After the installation open your PDF Application en deselect in the Internet section >Show PDF in browser<
Good luck ...

brand new imac cannot view PDF files in browser but the PDF's can be viewed if downloaded. All the data in the PDF online have question marks instead, maybe a missing font issue?

Have Adobe Reader installed? If so, disable the AdobePDFViewer.plugin resident in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins., restart, and try again. For font-associated issues, peruse Font Management in OS X

  • Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore.  It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version.  Please help?  I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Can't view pdf files in gmail (OS 5.01)

Since I have installed OS 5.1 I can't view pdf files in my gmail account. I can view them on yahoo (same email) or with the previous OS.  I just download 5.01 a week ago so I am not sure if I missed something for settings or if I need to change something because my search has not discovered anyone else having an issue.
    Thanks!

Yes, I can view emails it is the PDF files I can't download or view.  In OS 4 I could touch the attachment and it would open up, now when I touch the attachment it just tries to download.  This is for all PDF files in gmail.

I'm new to the Apple products. How can I view pdf files and videos since Apple and Adobe don't play together? Also, what operating system does the iPhone use? I'm a Windows person.

You may want to download and read the manual for your phone. It may answer a lot of the basic questions.

There is an app on your phone called "Mail". Yes, it's for reading your email.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't view PDF files in Wb Browser

Hello from a relative newbie to Adobe.
Recently I began getting the message " Adobe Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again " when viewing web sites.
I have Adobe Acrobat 4 ( and always have, I think ) so I successfully downloaded Version 9.1 but still keep getting the same message.
Could I get some help please ?
    Cheers,

As long as I can view the current bank files (not downloads), the actual statements are not vital.  I can print those pages, but it's just very difficult and time consuming to go through all of that when a statement is what I need.  I can always go back to paper statements in the mail, but those would just be current.
Anyway, it happened just as you said...out of the blue.  You probably know more than I do about computer issues...you might check out your firewall and security settings.  I get lost when I start checking things out, so I'll try to keep track and let you know if I find a solution.
    Thanks, George...maybe Adobe will respond???
    Take care.....

  • Viewing PDF files in-browser with Firefox (17.0 as of this writing) on a Mac

    Hello there,
since I don't remember when there has been a problem with the Adobe Reader NPAPI plug-in and Firefox. Previously, with earlier versions of Firefox and with Adobe Reader 10.x the problem was that the plug-in wasn't working properly and one got a blank page without any explanation. This led to Firefox black-listing the Adobe Reader NPAPI plug-in and having it disabled by default, if I remember correctly. Now it seems we've got the situation reversed, as if Adobe has black-listed Firefox as a browser, because when I try viewing a PDF file in-browser with the most up-to-date versions (17 and 11 for Firefox and Reader respectively), I'm getting the following error:
Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser.
We are sorry, but Adobe Reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration.
Please use your browser to download this file and open it in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat.
To avoid this message in the future, many browsers provide a way to turn off certain add-ons, and some are able to show this document natively.
Please contact your browser vendor for more details.
All's well that ends well, but unfortunately we haven't seen any solution so far. With Safari 6.x the plug-in is working fine. With Firefox it isn't. Let's see what can be done: in its last sentence the error message recommends that I contact my browser vendor for more details. The wording of the first two sentences however suggests otherwise: "Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser. Adobe reader is unable to show documents in this browser configuration." Thus, my question is
What is it in this browser and/or browser configuration that doesn't suit the Adobe Reader plug-in? Is it only this newest Firefox version (17) that isn't supported or is it the Firefox browser and why? Should I be able to spoof Firefox' identity and make it seem like Safari to the plug-in, what's going to happen?

Very frustrating, but I found the fix (on another site - can't believe with 360 views, no one here knew). In Firefox, PDFs are automatically set to open with the faulty Adobe plug-in. To change it to open with Adobe Reader, check out the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pdf-files-are-blank-and-cant-be-downloaded-mac#os=mac &browser=fx16
    Super easy!

  • I can't view PDF files on Safari 5.1 for windows 7, how do I fix this?

I like using Safari 5.1 for my web browser at work (I use a windows 7 machine). But the recent update won't let me view PDF files. I have to open up Google Chrome then copy and paste the address into it so I can view the PDF. How do I fix this?

    I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro 9.4.5
There are no updates for this. Are you suggesting I unistall then reinstall this?

  • Can't view pdf in any browser

Using Mac os10.6.  I can't view pdf in Safari or Firefox (comes up as blank black or white page only) nor in Chrome where it says the adobe plug-in is not installed (which of course it is)  I checked for all updates, reviewed the settings for the internet reader on Chrome, which is set to be Acrobat reader.  Even ran a disk diagnostic to check for corrupted files.  I am looking for suggestions on fixing this issue.  I am able to create, read and open pdf's from email and any file already on my computer.  It's got to be this plug-in, I just don't know how to fix it.

I signed out of my account and signed in my wife's account on the same
computer.  I could open the pdf files with Safari but could not save
them.  I could not open them with Firefox or Opera.  When I use my
account, I get a terrible cross hatch on the front of them in Safari and
can not open them in the other browsers.   This sounds as if I have two
problems, one for the cross hatch and one for not working at all.
The three latest Apple upgrades also messed up my print to both paper
and pdf but I was able to fix that by going into the Library and the
Print folder and throwing away a file.
Apple really should test upgrades more before releasing them. Apple
support, for the most part, varies a lot.  They could not help me on
this one.  I have used Apple support five or six times and at least half
of these, they could not help and I had to fix the problem myself.
I sure hope they fix this one as it seems complex.  I also wonder if I
upgrade to Mountain Lion, will I have the same problem?

  • I can not view pdf. files on the web.

I have downloaded the latest Adobe reader.
I can open and view existing pdf files on my desktop.
I can not however view any pdf files from web sites.

    Yes, it was working.
Last week I cleaned up my hard drive using an app. called OmniDiskSweeper.
I deleted what I thought was an extra copy of Adobe Reader 9.
Today, I tried to open an pdf file on a website and just got a dark page.
I tried several different websites with the same result.
I was able to open existing pdf files located on my desktop.
I then downloaded and reinstalled both Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Reader 10.1.3 .
I am still unable to open and view pdf files on web sites.

  • Can't view pdf files

I can no longer view pdf files in Safari (I can open downloaded files, however). This has been happening for a few weeks now. Does anyone know why this would happen? and how to fix the problem?
(I have recently loaded VMware Fusion -- could this cause the problem?; or is that just an unrelated coincidence?)

Mamabear, I have the same issue with Safari (2.0.4). While I can get a saved .pdf file to my desktop by using "control-click"... the same file no longer opens in Safari after I open it within a Safari window as it once did. The only thing I think may have affected this ability is that I once downloaded Adobe Reader (and have since removed it) to open particular Adobe Reader files and wonder if that may have affected Safari's ability to open .pdf files in a window. Hopefully someone in on these boards can give us both some insight/fixes.
