Can't view site on Windows

Hi Everyone,
I created a website: <Edited by Moderator> and it was working fine for a while on both Mac and PC.
Then, all of a sudden on PCs, the text would show up but there would be no background image. This happened right after I replaced the .htaccess file with another to have a custom 404 not found page. I am not sure if they are related, but I noticed that the site did not work on PCs right after I changed the file.
It still works fine on Macs, but not on PCs
I have tried re-uploading my entire site, but it didn't change the problem. I have also tried creating a new .htaccess file (blank), but it didn't work either.
Any sugesstions?
Thanks in advance,
AlwaysApple,

Hello,
I am having a similar issue. I have created a web site with images and text in it that works fine on a mac and my windows laptop. I do get pople complaining that they cannot view the images, they get a red X where the image should be. I believe that I read in this forum that older browsers may have a problem displaying the pages properly. What browser and version are you using? Have you tried another browser like Firefox (I assume you are using IE). Maybe we can help each other on this one!
Thanks,
Jim

  • Web Sharing on, Can't view sites

    Hi,
I have a question about web sharing that I hope you can help me with (please!)...
Recently I installed php5, and updated the httpd.conf file accordingly... evidently I didn't do it correctly, as web sharing failed to turn on afterwards. I reverted to the backup copy, and I could turn web sharing on again. Unfortunately, I couldn't view anything inside the Sites folder using the:
    http://localhost/~username/
recommended in system preferences - I keep getting a Not Found error. The apache server page is visible at:
    http://localhost/
and documents can be viewed from underneath the /Library/WebServer/Documents folder...
but nothing in the username/Sites folder can be viewed.
The ServerRoot in the httpd.conf file is specified as "usr"...
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Lauren

Make sure you have the following lines in your httpd.conf file:
    LoadModule userdir_module libexec/httpd/mod_userdir.so
    AddModule mod_userdir.c
    <IfModule mod_userdir.c>
    UserDir Sites
    </IfModule>
    Include /private/etc/httpd/users/*.conf
Tip: Whenever you are editing your httpd.conf file, you should always keep the file open in your editor and stop and start Apache from the terminal window, because any errors in the httpd.conf file will be echoed to the terminal as Apache tries to start up. This will allow you to undo any changes that introduce errors.

  • How can I view 2 active windows within a program simultaneously?

Using Windows programs on a PC, I could often use the "Window" menu to access the commands (something like) "Tile Vertical" or "Tile Horizontal" to view 2 active windows within a program on the screen simultaneously with a click or 2 of the mouse. I am finding that with a Mac I must manually resize and position 2 active windows to view them simultaneously. Am I missing something or is the manual method my only option? Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Yes, it's the only built-in option. There are several third-party window managers that provide the type of functionality you are looking for. You can find them at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. For example,
    Window Tiles
    FlexiGlass
There are others with varying types of features and options.

  • Can't View JPEGs in Windows Explore Because of QuickTime Picture Viewer

A couple of weeks ago I had some film developed in our local drug store. I had the photos put on a CD. The CD came with its own software and you had to install the software in order to view or take off the photos. I wanted to use my own editing software program to edit my photos so I copied the photos to a folder on my HD. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that all my JPEG files had been turned into QuickTime Picture files. Not just the ones that I took off the CD, but every JPEG file on my hard drive--over a 1000! I did what you usually do whenever you want to change an association for a file in WD 98--I right clicked on a JPEG file and chose the option that said always open these type files with ACDSee, the photo editing program I wanted to use for my photos. All this did was to allow me to open all my JPEG files into my favorite photo editing program, but still would not allow me to view my JPEGs in the Windows Preview pane on the left of my screen in Windows Explorer! When you have as many JPEGs as I do, even if they are all organized and labeled, you still need to be able to view the thumbnails in Windows Explorer so that you won't have to open up every photo to see what it looks like. There is no way you can remember what every photo looks like when you have that many files even with them all labeled. I went in to the Preference option in Quick Time and unchecked every thing that had to do with still photos. But it did not help. I right clicked on every folder and checked the option that says View Thumbnails. I went into the Folder Options in Windows Explorer and tried every folder option that was offered and none of it solved the problem. I have searched the knowledge base on MS web site and could not find an answer. I have posted this problem in numerous Tech bulletins and no one can figure out how to solve this problem. I checked my Program's list and I also noticed that I had something there listed right under Quick Time that said "Quick Time for Windows" and don't remember ever seeing that before and don't know if that has anything to do with my problem or not. My Quick Time version is: 6.5.2. The "Quick Time for Windows" is not listed in my ADD/REMOVE program. I am so totally frustrated after working on this problem for 2 weeks, almost 8 hours a day, that I am about to uninstall Quick Time just to see if that will solve this problem. I would hate to do that, and that is why I joined this forum before I perform such a drastic measure. I figured that since this forum is all about Quick Time, someone here will know the answer. I have to leave the house for a little while but will check back here when I get back home and see if anyone has posted here. Thank you in advance for any help that you offer.

Well, it seem no one here knows the answer to my problem either. I appreciate all the people who have looked at my problem even though they did not know the answer either. Because no one on the Internet seems to know how to solve this problem, then I am going to have my husband reformat my hard drive and then I know for sure the problem will go away.
I probably should do that anyway since I have never had to reformat my hard drive since I got it 8 years ago. I always said if something is not broke, why fix it and now it finally seems to be "broke", so I might as well clean it up as well as fix it. Thanks to everyone who looked at my problem.

  • Red Xs show up on images when viewing site in Windows

After adding some pages (from the standard templates) and content, the site (published to mac.com) displays on Windows XP and Vista with red Xs in the top-left corner of every image. The images do show, but that X is there on every one. Check it out at marrs-attacks.com. It also loads and/or renders very slowly (I can't tell since IE doesn't have a load progress indicator that I can see). Also notice the nearly invisible Made on Mac image at the bottom-center. Everything appears correctly and quickly on a Mac.
Other pages such as turnstyleband.com, also recently created and published by iWeb '09, don't show this problem (although one big difference is that the first site has background images and the second doesn't).
Any ideas, or is it just another iWeb bug that I need to report?

From the article I linked you to:
... if The image is displayed based on a script, an ActiveX control, a cookie, a Java program...
If you disable Java in Safari the pictures don't show up at all. iWeb is using Java to generate the photo albums. If the users allowed Java all would probably be golden. Security settings are all over the place on Windows machines. Some antivirus software will also disable what it thinks are security holes. Unfortunately, many websites use Java for their functionality.
This is why, on my main page of my site I avoid the nav bar. I created my own nav bar with links to avoid the Java problem. I let the nav bar show on other pages because I am less concerned with them. Some other programs other than iWeb can create photo pages in standard html which you link to instead of using the java-based page iWeb creates.
If you want to build a truly friendly site avoid java, and avoid effects on your photos which creates large png files and makes the site load slower. I have also found that using a page background and browser background slows down the site. Just use a browser background. You can also open the files on your iDisk and optimize the photos, using a photo editor like Adobe Photoshop Elements. You will lose little quality and drastically improve the load time.

  • Can I View site content page in a list, rather than blocks?

the viewlsts.aspx page in sp2013 shows each object in a block - is there a way to display it in the old, sp2010 style that shows # of items, last modified, etc in a table instead of the grid layout? it is much easier to look at as a list.

No way out of the box. You could create a search driven web part, a custom App or a custom web part do display the list of the lists/libraries. But, this would not give you the full functionality of the current viewlsts.aspx page.
The following is a "hack" is not supported by Microsoft (or anyone else!), and in general a bad idea. But if it is only for your personal use as an administrator and only as a way to browse the lists of lists, then go for it! (at your own risk
    of course)
If you are on premises, not Office 365, and you are a server administrator, you could copy and rename the viewlsts.aspx from the 14\Templates\Layouts directory and put it in the 15\Templates\Layouts directory as ViewLstsOld.aspx. You can then access it as
http://yourServer/sites/yourSite/_layouts/ViewLstsOld.aspx. This page will not display "Apps" nor let you add new "Apps". The Create link will take you to the old 2010 create page.

  • How can I view the Locals Window?

    Hello -
I don't seem to have the option of viewing locals or watch windows.  When I click on view -> Other Windows, the only options are Web Browser Find Results 1 and Find Results 2.  If I click on debug -> Windows, the only option is Breakpoints.
    Please suggest!

    Hello,
If I understand correctly, you want to display the Locals window when using Transact-SQL debugger. You must be in debug mode to display the local window: In the SSMS, click Debug -> start Debugging; To access the Locals window, click Windows on Debug
menu , and then click Locals. Please refer to the following screen shot:
If I have any misunderstanding, please let me know.

  • Can I view the browser window and the effects window at the same time?

I just got a second monitor to complement my 24" iMac, and would like to take advantage of it by having the effects window and the browser window with all my clips open at the same time. Anyone know if this is possible?

I think you just need to grab the Effects tab and drag it out of the Browser onto your extra monitor (though I could be wrong).

    Whats wrong?

Hello all, I have the answer.
You need ADOBE SHOCKWAVE. I had the exact same issue, tried some stuff to no avail. This morning it occurred to me that one more plugin was missing. After installing Adobe Shockwave I am able to see the catchpha.

  • Can't view tables in rs window?

I am trying to work on a page/site that someone else began
    outside of DW.
The code currently includes a file with it's own connection
    string:
    CONN = "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=[path];
and the page works fine up on the site. This original page is
    very simple
and loops to list some data from the database as plain text.
When I try to make the connection in DW, however, while I CAN
    make a
successful connection in the connection string window, once I
    am at the
recordset window I can't view any of the database tables or
    queries.
I looked up the problem online and found suggestions to use
    ODBC connections
instead of OLEDB connections -- tried that, but same results.
    I get an
error when I try to view the tables:
    Error calling GetTables:
    an unidentified error has occurred.
    Anyone have a solution??

I too am currently having this problem. HELP.
when I try to create a recordset to an ACCESS database, i get
    the same error...
error calling getTables; an unidentifed error has occurred.
I dont handle the server...I am just a lonely servant. the
admin is telling me nothing has occured on his end....so Im
thinking it has to be a macromedia issue.
now Im finding others with the same problem.
    but is there a fix.

  • How can I display the folders in an ftp site in Windows Explorer during a Firefox web browsing session?

I would like to view and select multiple files from a folder on an ftp site and copy them to a folder on my computer, but with Firefox it seems I have to plod through one file at a time. In IE there is a Page button which has an option to display the site in Windows Explorer, which allows me to select and copy as many files as I want at one time.
Does such a feature exist in Firefox, or an approximation?
    Thank you

That is done via an onbeforeunload or onunload event that displays a JavaScript alert.

  • From Firefox, can I open an FTP site in Windows Explorer?

Firefox presents a simple FTP view of files. Firefox does not support active FTP mode, or uploading. Thus, some other program must be used to navigate and work an FTP site.
Windows - Internet Explorer - provides a connection to open and view an FTP site via Windows Explorer.
Why can't Firefox do the same?

    You can look at:
