Can't Wake-On-LAN up iBook from Sleep Options

Seasons Greetings!
I can't get my 1.25gHz eMac to wake my 900mHz G3 iBook from sleep to
auto backup overnight via the Wake-On-LAN feature using an Ethernet
connection and Wake 550. I set the Administrator Wake tab in the
Energy Panel and looked up my iBook's Machine Address in the Network
Utility to type into the Machine Address box in Wake 550 but no go. I
even put in the IP and my iBook still sleeps. Any hints?
Thanks!
JimWG

I'm starting to wnder if the PB has a Wake-On-LAN compatible ethernet card!?
Or if maybe you have something like a Cat-3 cable that doesn't have as many lines as a Cat-5e/Cat-6 cable?
After hours of experimentation WOL, 550, & Nudge all work reliably for waking if you have a WOL Ethernet card, somewhere above a Cat-2 cable, even if the originator is Airport only to an Ethernet Router that the others connect to.
Can't find much info as to which Macs have WOL capable cards except that up to the original iMac they didn't. I'm thinking maybe a G3 Powerbook doesn't since it's on the list of needing a Crossover cable to connect to another on that list...

  • Wake From Sleep Option Dimmed DBT-120 ver. C1

The bluetooth wake from sleep option is disabled for my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. I'm using the Apple recommended dlink DBT-120 adapter, version C1. Bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 says my hardware is up to date, so it won't install. Updater 1.2.1 will not run on either of my Macs (G4 MDD or G5 DP), which are both running 10.4.8.
Any ideas on getting the wake from sleep option working with the DBT-120 version C1 adapter?
    G5 2GHZ DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good news - I now have full bluetooth functionality with keyboard & mouse, including wake from sleep, as well as certain start-up key combos. Here's how it did it, after reading numerous related Discussion posts:
    - I gave up on the DBT-120 version C1 adapter, and got an older D-Link DBT-120 version B3 on eBay. The collective experience in the Discussions, and my own, show that the current Apple bluetooth firmware updaters (1.2 & 1.2.1) do not work with the newer DBT-120 version C1. Too bad this isn't clearly explained on Apple's download pages, or in the updater readme files.
    - To help ensure a successful firmware update, I unplugged all other USB devices except the wired mouse & keyboard, booted Panther 10.3.6 from a firewire backup drive, ran no other applications, and prevented the Mac from sleeping.
    - I used bluetooth firmware updater 1.2 (not 1.2.1) to update the firmware on the version B3 adapter. It does indeed take about 15 minutes to complete the firmware update, and goes through several write and wait cycles during the process.
    - After the update was completed, I shut down, and totally removed power from the computer & all peripherals for a few minutes before restarting.
    - Upon restarting, I had to delete the old C1 adapter based keyboard & mouse pairings from Bluetooth Preferences, and create new pairings using the upgraded B3 adapter. (I also marked the keyboard & mouse as Favorites.) I'm guessing this was necessary because some of the bluetooth pairing information must be stored in the bluetooth adapter - it's not all stored in OS X's preferences.
Aside from being able to wake from sleep, the Apple-upgraded DBT-120 (B3) enables smoother mouse operation and more reliable right-clicking.
Guess I'll have to find another use for my new DBT-120 version C1 adapter, unless Apple eventually comes out with an updated bluetooth firmware upgrade for it. Hello, Cupertino?

  • A78M-E35 can't wake on lan after power unplug

Hi, this is my first HTPC with Kodibuntu and trying to use the wake on lan to boot it.
I have disabled EuP 2013 and enable Resume by PCI-E device.
And I also add the MAC address and IP to TP link router ARP list.
But WOL just worked well if it boot immediately after shutdown.
So my question: is it possible to wake on lan even if i completely shutdown and unplug the power?
    thanks in advance

    Quote from: badboy2k on 09-February-15, 17:03:58
no that is not possible as your computer has no power!
WOL is to bring the computer out of Sleep/Hibernation not power up when its got no power to function or is fully shut down!
oic. thank you for your reply!

  • MacBook can't see Airport Express when waking from sleep

    Hi,
I have an airport express unit specifically for using with air tunes. I am find that every time my macbook wakes from sleep although it reconnects to my wireless network ok it (and therefore itunes) can't see the AX anymore.
Rebooting the AX unit fixes the problem and i can again stream from itunes but i dont want to have to reboot the AX each time beacuse my MacBook goes in and out of sleep 5+ times a day as i move it around the house.
I am not having any issue with audio drop out or stuttering as mentioned by others, nor does the ax stop working once streaming has begun.
    My Setup is:
    MacBook OSX 10.4.11
    Airport Express (latest firmware)
BeBox wireless router (rebranded speedtouch) running WPA2 security
Any suggestions on what i can do to stop this recurring?

I've recently developed a similar problem. When my PowerBook G4 wakes from sleep it can no longer see the Airport Express. It still connects to the Internet, and the AX continues to shine a steady green light. I've written an Automator script that restarts the router, and once it reboots the AX shows up again in iTunes or the AirPort utility.
Customer service for my router claims this is an issue with the AX. Anyone have any ideas?
    Computer: PowerBook G4, 10.5.2
Wireless network: TrendNet TEW-432 G router, WPA, DHCP, SSID broadcast off, no MAC filter, Airport Express set up to join network (not extend).
    Thanks,

  • Can't wake mini after it goes into sleep mode

Hi, My mac mini 2010 model will not wake from sleep mode. The computer also shuts down by itself if left on overnight.
    Any ideas?

Try following the following steps to reset your Mac mini's System Management Controller (SMC), the electronics on your logic board which control your computer's power state (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964):
    Shut down the Mac mini.
Unplug its power cord and wait 15 seconds.
    Reconnect and wait 5 seconds.
    Switch the Mac mini on.
If that does not solve the problem, there are a few possibilities:
    1) I know it's obvious, but have you checked that "Schedule..." in Energy Saver Preferences is not accidentally set to shut down?
    2) What is the power supply to the Mac mini's power adapter like? I have seen a few rare instances where power supply issues can cause the SMC to get confused in these cases. You could try using a known-good power supply and/or swapping to a less loaded power socket. I know it sounds unlikely, but I have seen at least one occasion where this solved strange sleep/wake behaviours of Minis.
    3) Finally, the worst case is that your logic board is faulty.
If you've done all of the above and have no luck, bring your Mac mini and its power adapter to your local Apple Authorised Service Provider or Apple Store for hardware diagnostics.

  • Can I wake up iTunes to play from a selected playlist on remote speakers (with a fade-in)?

Is there a way to get my MacBook or iPhone to use a selected playlist from itunes as a wake up alarm - ON REMOTE SPEAKERS? Loads of alarms start up with a selected playlist or song, but they play only on the computer or iPhone or plugged in speakers. I want to wake up to my remote speakers in the bedroom via the wireless AirPlay function. Any ideas would be welcome.

I have practically the same problem, but only with podcasts. From a smartlist having all my podcasts, autofill only puts two onto the shuffle. From a normal playlist, none. I can drag them all into the shuffle. I'm on an iBook with Panther, iTunes 6, September 2005 iPod updater.

  • How can I turn pages on iPad (iBooks) from keyboard?

I'm a band leader and want to be able to wirelessly turn the pages of my band's iPads using my wifi apple keyboard (or better yet from my iPad itself!)
    So there are 2 questions:
1: Can I use the Apple keyboard to turn pages in ANY software - preferably iBooks?
2: Can I use my wireless keyboard to type on multiple iPads at once?

I really wonder, why apple does not do this? I mean it is already implemented for the portrait mode, so it shouldn't be that hard!
Also I want to see some wireless keyboard shortcuts that are especially created for pages (for examples making text bold, italic, aligning in the center, justifying, etc.) and other apple applications. Come on apple, do you really think that people are using pages, numbers, etc. on their iPad without using the wireless keyboard?! It would be just a nightmare. And since we are using the keyboard, we don't want to touch every time we need to make a text bold, etc. At least not for some easy operations. So please add some keyboard shortcuts for this in the next pages update. It shouldn't be that hard!

  • Can't wake up my Mountain Lion after sleep

I upgraded my macbook pro from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Everytime it goes into sleep mode, turning it back on is proving difficult. I have to hold the power button down for a very looooong time before it starts all over again (and by then all my working windows are gone-it was basically shut down)!

    UPDATE
Realised I had System Control 1.4.1 gadget installed and this has direct Hibernation option, much easier to use. Goes into Hibernation straight away.
Just out of interest however have found that if I leave my LAN cable connected the system will come out of sleep/hibernation on it's own. Have to disconnect cable each time.
Any clues (perhaps a BIOS setting) ?

  • Can not increase the Max memor pool from java options for a tomcat service

I have a tomcat service on a windows 2003 server, which is 32-bit windows. I have a 4G RAM on this server machine. When I try to increase the Max memory pool from the tomcat5w.exe tool by inserting 2000m in the Max pool memory text field, and try to restart the service; it gives me an error and the service does not get restarted. I have tried decreasing the threads stack and the perm gen, but still the service does not get started
Does any one have any suggestion or has experienced similar problem?
    Thank you in advance

You won't be able to use much more than 1.4G probably. The amount of physical memory you have is somewhat irrelevant because 32 bit windows can only address 4G and something like 2G of that is reserved for the OS and with what you have left of that 4G you have to include space for shared libraries etc and the thread stacks (which takes memory away from what you can allocate to the heap).
As kajbj said you need to look at a 64 bit architecture to allocate more memory (or as a hack I think you can tell the OS to use less memory for itself).

  • Trouble with bluetooth keyboard/mouse and wake from sleep option

    Hi,
I have a 12" PB G4 that has in-built BT. I got a Microsoft Elite bluetooth desktop (keyboard + mouse) and the keyboard and mouse are recognized by my Powerbook but the option to "Allow bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" option is dimmed so I can't check it.. I googled and came upon Apple's howto on this and downloaded/installed the latest firmware.... no luck.. I opened up the firmware updater in Applications\Utilities and hit the Update button but get an error saying no apple bluetooth module exists... given that the keyboard and mouse do show up in the list of bluetooth devices, does this mean that there is no firmware update for this make of keyboard/mouse?
Anything else I can try to get this option to work so I can use the BT keyboard/mouse to wake up the computer?
    Thanks,
    NG

Seems I am the only one using a Bluetooth mouse. I went a bought a mouse with an RF receiver and have packed the BT mouse away.

  • Kernel panics when I wake up my Mac Pro from sleep mode.

    Hi All,
This problem occurs about twice a week and has been happening for a few months. I have taken my Mac to two authorized repair centers and they can not find any problems. Both had the Mac for a few days and ran the hardware stress test.  I have a 2011 Quad Core running ML 10.8.5 with 16GB ram.  Today when it happend, the power light was not doing the pulsating and it was well past my one hour limit for sleep mode. I went to tap the space bar and instant shut down with kernel panic. Only application running was Firefox. I'll post the panic log. The repairs centers found them to be of no use.  I have tried to reset the SMC, Pram and repaired the permissions. My next step was to try to replace the graphics card which is the ATI Radeon 5770.  I have a spare.  I'm lost. Please help. Thanks!!!!
