Can't wake up my Mountain Lion after sleep

I upgraded my macbook pro from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Everytime it goes into sleep mode, turning it back on is proving difficult. I have to hold the power button down for a very looooong time before it starts all over again (and by then all my working windows are gone-it was basically shut down)!

UPDATE
Realised I had System Control 1.4.1 gadget installed and this has direct Hibernation option, much easier to use. Goes into Hibernation straight away.
Just out of interest however have found that if I leave my LAN cable connected the system will come out of sleep/hibernation on it's own. Have to disconnect cable each time.
Any clues (perhaps a BIOS setting) ?

I donot think I have a install disk when I bought my mac, there is only a disc partition for recovery system.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have to install Boot Camp drivers. On Mountain Lion, you have to download them.
First, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X. Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and select the option to download the drivers. You will have to burn them into a DVD or USB drive, so after downloading them, restart and install them into Windows

If you can download the ML installer you can make a bootable install media by using:
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
If your Mini came with ML you can also boot to Internet Recovery
OS X: About OS X Recovery
and it will install ML. Make sure you boot to Internet Recovery and not the Recovery Partition. If to the partition you will only get Mavericks.

  • Do I have to activate AHCI mode on a Mountain Lion after a new SSD drive installation?

    Hello All,
Do I have to activate AHCI mode on a Mountain Lion after a new SSD drive installation?
I have a new Corsair GT SSD sata 3 drive on my mack book, I have read on corsair web page that is good tho activate the AHCI and TRIM but I cant find information about how to do this on OS X.
    Thank you all

That's information for non-Apple hardware. You can activate TRIM using third-party software: TRIM Enabler 2.2. However, most new SSDs should not need TRIM activated on the Mac.

how to turn on usernoted in mountain lion after i accidently turned it off?

Usernoted was continually crashing and eating up memory. I clicked on it in the activity monitor and it took me to a place where I could turn it off. Without thinking I did so. I think I turned it off in the console or the terminal. I don't remember exactly what was written. I just clicked  to allow it to be turned off. Since then I cannot upload anything to facebook directly from my imac or from safari when I use share. But iI still get facebook notifications in the notification center. I have restarted and even shut down and then restarted and also logged out and in and I still can't share.

how can i retinstall back my OS X Mountain Lion after i mistake update with OS X Yosmite

If you Mac originally was shipped with ML, you can try Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R) to re-install ML. Please backup your data first. Your internal disk may use CoreStorage rather than plain JHFS+ filesystem.

  • If I upgrade my leopard computer to snow leopard via an old update disc, can I then upgrade to Mountain Lion for the $20 deal?

If I upgrade my leopard computer to snow leopard via an old update disc, can I then upgrade to Mountain Lion for the $20 deal?

Yes, provided  your computer meets the system requirements and you have updated Snow Leopard to 10.6.8:
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process.

  • Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?

Why can't the finder in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 find files that have successfully downloaded, or that other programs can find?
This happens with maybe 1 out of 5 files. These are files that have either an ."aa" extention, or or are libraries that icloud can see, but finder can't.

Files beginning with a period are invisible and library files are system files. Spotlight cannot find either unless configured to do so (btw, this is not a Finder issue but a Spotlight issue.)
Get Spotlight to search system files (and more)
Enter the search term in the Finder window's search field.
Click the [+] button in the search bar to add a search option.
In the first drop down menu choose Other.
Choose “System Files” from the list that pops up (and check the box to place in drop down menu to avoid this step later,) click on the OK button.
Now back in the Finder choose Include from the second drop down menu.

  • Can I download and use Mountain Lion without Lion downloaded first

Can i download and use Mountain Lion if I haven't downloaded Lion yet?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion from Mac OS X Snow Leopard or OS X Lion, so you can install Mountain Lion without having OS X Lion.
Just open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. If you aren't using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you have to buy it. Don't forget to make a backup with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

Not necessary. The Apple web store has Snow Leopard disks at a very attractive price:
