Can't Watch HD TV Shows On ATV? Port Error.....

I can't get my ATV to sync with iTunes so I CAN watch the new TV shows in HD. I keep getting an error reading, "The Apple TV is not responding. Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689". Huh? How do I do that? It's always "just worked". Let me know.....TIA!!

Is the problem limited to this particular show or is it repeatable with other content.

See if your sources have an app and use that.
Or look for a browser that supports flash and use that.

    Hi Miriam1972,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can use iTunes on your laptop to download the tv shows for viewing. See this article for the steps to download the shows:

How come I can't watch purchased tv show on my ipad if not connected to Internet?

There are two kinds of content, streaming and downloaded. If your show is a streaming show you have to be on the internet to view it. (akin to you not being able to watch youtube videos without being on the net)
Downloaded files can be watched anytime (within the constraints of the DRM of course)

How can i watch a netflix show on an airplane. Can't stream

If the airline doesn't offer WiFi (or doesn't allow streaming over the WiFi they offer), then you can't. You'll need to rent or purchase a movie from another source so that you can download it onto your device ahead of time.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't watch a TV show for 5 hours - am I doing something wrong?

I bought Apple TV with the intention of using it to watch my purchased TV programs on the big screen rather than my 13" Macbook Pro.
I've connected it to my TV & wifi and enable home sharing in my iTunes.
I can see my purchased TV shows on the big screen but when I try to watch an episode it says it will be ready for me to watch in 5 hours.
    Is this normal?

Apple TV is an entirely streaming device, as a result it must have a reliable network connection to stream content.
Either connect the ATV via Ethernet or troubleshoot and fix the Wi-Fi network issues.

  • How can I watch purchased TV shows on my analog TV?

Is there any practical way to watch the TV shows I have purchased from the iTunes store on my analog TV?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe AppleTV is an option for me because it outputs to digital TVs, only, right?
I am willing to go either wired or wireless, given the following restraints:
My analog TV has the following inputs (only):
    F connection - coaxial
Composite video - yellow RCA plug
My desktop G4 and my TV are about 35-40 ft apart by air (two walls in between), or 50 ft by wire.
    *Wireless options:*
My Mac presently has no wireless capability, but I could add either an original AirPort card (11b) or a PCI wireless card (11g).
*Does anyone know of a wireless box that will connect to my analog TV and receive wirelessly transmitted iTunes content?*
I also have a digital-to-analog converter for digital broadcast TV - any way to use that to convert AppleTV output to analog?
    *Wired options:*
My video card (ATI 9200 flashed for Mac) has S-video out, and I have an S-video-to-RCA adaptor.
The cheapest and simplest option looks like 50 ft of RCA cable.
*Does anyone know if 50 ft run of RCA cable is doable for video and audio?*
My G4 also has an ethernet port, presently in use for my DSL modem, but I believe I could free up that connection if there is an ethernet solution that will connect to my TV.
    Thanks,
    -gw
Wouldn't it be great if I could just burn a DVD and pop it into the DVD player connected to my TV? I know, I know ... but wouldn't it be great?

I failed to mention it - but yes, my TV does have the red and white RCA plugs for audio in addition to the yellow one for video.
The video-capable iPod is a good idea, but I just got a Shuffle (gift), and would be reluctant to buy a second iPod at this time. In addition to the initial cost of the iPod, I have read the cable needed for video-out can be expensive for some models.
I may have found an easy solution, though not as cheap and reliable as I had hoped. While looking for 50 ft of composite video/audio cable (not in stock at Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, or Best Buy), I made an impulse purchase: the Terk "TV Anywhere" model LF-30S - a wireless solution.
Unfortunately, it's a 2.4 GH device, the same as my cordless phone, which causes serious interference - a common complaint about this product. With my phone unplugged, the video looks OK on my TV. I haven't yet heard the audio, because I needed another adaptor to go from 1/8" headphone jack to red/white RCA.
Pending the results of further testing, I haven't decided if I will keep the TV Anywhere or return it. A hard wire would be half the price, but would require drilling holes in my hardwood floors for basement cable routing - but if I get any audio hiss or pops from the wireless, that's what I'll do.

  • Can you watch iTunes TV shows while they are downloading?

I've just purchsed a TV show/episode from iTunes. I thought I read somewhere that you can instantly begin watching the show, even before the download is complete. My estimated download time remaining for this show is currently 8 hours.
Is there a way that I can start watching it before it is finished or will I have to wait until tomorow?
Does my computer still have to be connected to the internet during the entire download process?
    Any help is appreciated!

I have never bought a show from Apple so can't say firsthand, but I thought I read here you can.  Of course if it is taking 8 hours to download then unless it is an 8 hour program or you take a lot of restroom breaks you're going to outpace the download speed.

  • Can i watch my tv show purchases offline?

My friends keep tellin me that i can watch my tv show purchases also offline but for some reason i'm not able to... i always have to sign online first . Anyone knows what i have to do to watch offline as well?????

If the file has been downloaded to the device, it certainly is possible to watch them offline.
However, without more detail about the situation and what device you're trying to watch the videos on, we really cannot say why you are experiencing issues.

Yes, just double click the movie in iTunes. It will start playing in the bottom left corner of iTunes. Click on the video in the lower left corner (on the actual video that is playing) and it will open in a bigger view with a fullscreen option.

  • I can't watch video on we page due to error "blocked plug-in"

I can't watch video on web site. blocked plug-in?

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
