Can't watch rented  movies, need to authorize apple tv...

I downloaded a movie and when trying to watch it, apple tv advises that this apple tv is not authorized.... where do I authorize it, guess it must be like authorizing a computer to play purchased songs or movies from iTunes Store, but where do I authorize it ??
Thanks in advance, daughter driving me crazy with this LOL

That link is useful, but I'd advise recreating the library only as a very last rseort - I did it once and it lost all the custom tags I'd added in iTunes together with a load of artwork for albums. Didn't work either!
I had problems authorising playback on my AppleTv when I did this - it sorted itself out inexplicably - I personally think it was due to problems with Apple's servers not responding for a few hours. Not ideal, but I'd give it 24 hours or so to see if it fixes itself.
Ensure you somehow haven't inadvertently altered your store/location settings in AppleTV which might cause it to connect to the wrong store to authorise.
Also, it would be worth pulling the plug and rebooting if you haven't done that already.

Can I watch rented movies in my ipad 2 without internet connection?

If you use iTunes to rent movies, then yes.
iTunes movies downloaded and stored directly to your iPad and if you don't start playing a movie, stay on your iPad for 30 days.
If you start to play a downloaded, rented movie on your iPad, then it will expire in 24 hours.
Other services, like Amazon, Netflix and Hulu need an Internet connection to stream their content.

  • ITunes message says I can't watch rented movies!

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes message says I can't watch rented movies & that I need another QT version that I couldn't remember. What should I do? Note, in System Profiler, I have QT 7.5.5 in Apps and in Frameworks.

For now, this is correct. There will be an update to the Apple TV within the next week which will allow it to play rented content as well as rent it natively.

can i watch rented movies on my ipad with no wifi? Like on a plane trip?

Yes. although you do occasionally hear about people having problems.  If your trip is less than 24 hours, it might be a good idea to start the movie while you're connected to WiFi (which will start the rental clock ticking) and pause it.  You're not supposed to have to do this, but some people swear it prevents the occasional glitch.  I've only rented a couple of movies and they worked find on the plane.

can you watch rented movies from itunes on your iphone in airplane mode?

Actually, I just called AppleCare and they told me that an Internet connection was required. I tried it anyways. Once the rented movie is fully downloaded onto your iPad, it will appear in the Videos app, in the Rentals section. From there, even if you turn the airplane mode on, you should be able to press the play button and watch the movie. Note that I rented the movie in HD format and that I use the iPad 3rd generation.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,

  • Can't watch rented movies on iPad

because my internet connection is so much better on my laptop than on my iPad, I rented two movies for an upcoming trip and when I tried to transfer them to my iPad, I can't.  I'm getting an error that you must watch the movies on the device where they were downloaded.
I would like to find out if I can cancel the movie rentals so I can try downloading them directly to my iPad.

Unless someone else has a suggestion, you'll need to go here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.
    Regards.

  • Can I watch rented movies on my ipad on an airplane?

About to take a very long flight and want to watch some rented movies on my ipad - I just read somewhere online that I can't do this without a wifi connection on the airplane - is this true? How can I do this? Thank you.

Thanks for your responses - maybe I didn't put the question exactly right. I know that I need to be connected to download, but I've heard that you need an internet connection to watch the downloaded films so that Apple can start the clock on the rental. I've read a lot of stuff online that suggests that to watch rentals on an airplane you've got to start the film on the ground where you've got a connection and start the clock. This seems like a crazy work around for what must be a pretty popular activity for an ipad.
I've looked at the Apple FAQ and haven't found any clear answers to this question. Can anyone clarify this one? Thanks again.

  • Can't watch rented movie.  "Unauthorized" message

I got a new Macbook a couple of weeks ago and transferred everything from my old iBook -- including a rented movie I hadn't watched yet. Both computers are authorized for iTunes. Tonight I tried to watch the movie and got a message "Could not play the rented movie because it is authorized to play on another computer or device." Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Well, technically I did a migration of all the contents of my old computer to the new one, which I think is different than a transfer. I've been able to buy from the store, so I know this computer is authorized. It would be a hassle to watch it on the old computer, since I had moved all my media to an external hard drive (the iBook was full) and I'd have to set that up, too. (I have a new, larger external HD for this one, for Time Machine.) At least I'm only out 3 bucks if I can't figure this out.

Can I watch a rented movie on a flight?

    Yes.
But be aware, "you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library."

  • Can you watched rented movies on an airplane with the NEW iPad ?

Have some traveloing coming up and wondering this-

    have11 wrote:
do I download the rented movie to the Mac Book Pro, then synch and with Ipad and move it over then?
You can do it that way if you wish, though here's a separate process for moving a rental; it's not just done by synching. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1390
Or you can rent it directly from your iPad. Note that if you rent from your iPad, you cannot then move the movie to any other device, though that may not be an issue for you.
    Regards.
