  • Scanning with Preview - "cannot write to folder" error

I was scanning some photos yesterday using my epson 3170 scanner into Preview.
    These scanned & saved OK.
then I installed a couple of Apple updates - one was the latest OS X security update and a java update.
I then scanned something else and now I get a "cannot write to folder" error message preventing me from saving the scanned image (to the same folder I was saving the others to earlier).  I can save files to the same folder using other apps so there is nothing wrong with the drive or folder permissions.
I scanned the image otthe desktop and moved the file to the folder I wanted.
If I use ImageCapture it works OK as well.
Any ideas why Preview won't let me save the images?

Check the protections.  A command such as ls -ale@ or ls -aled@ would be typical for checking that.   I'd guess the files aren't writeable by the web server.  This'll probably be a chown and possibly a chmod command to bring the settings on the errant log(s) into agreement with the other settings on the other Apache web server logs that are being written.
FWIW, I'd use zdump or cat and pipe the log contents elsewhere if I wanted to write to them.  But if you're resetting the logs, there's a rollover script around (the one that runs automatically on OS X, and I'm unfortunately drawing a blank on the name; it moved from the /etc/periodic stuff over to launchd a while back), or write your own short script that rolls the files and leaves the appropriate owner and permissions settings.

  • WIndows XP/Vista can not recognize shared folder on Mac running Leopard

    Hi,
I have problem with sharing file from my Mac running Leopard to my Windows machine (running XP and Vista). I follow the instruction on this website. http://lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x-leopard/leopard-simplifies-networking-31 7033.php
My Windows machine 'see' the Mac. When i double-click or press enter on the Mac comp icon on my windows machine, I do not get any confirm box to enter username and password. Instead, I am allowed to view the content which is empty ( although I enabled some shared folder on my Mac)
Any suggestion to solve the problem pls .

If your Mac Pro has FileVault on, your Windows XP machine will not be able to access the files, as FileVault disables SMB and printer sharing for Windows XP clients.
In case FileVault is not on, you could try temporarily disabling the Windows firewall and the anivirus and/or internet security suite on the WinPC, and see whether it can access the files on your Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.

  • Can't Write to Disk Error (-69)

I have windows XP, and an iPod 30gb photo. OUt of the blue it stopped copying files to the iPod and gives the message cannot write to disk with the error (-69).
I have reinstalled both the iPod software and itunes multiple times.
I formatted my HD and reinstalled windows
The iPod works on other computers .
Does anyone know what i should do.
I have all my music on a USB drive that works fine, and it has been that way for months. I did not install any new software.
Dell tells me it's the iPod and Apple tells me it's the Dell
    I would appreciate any help

After formatting my HD, restarting windows, spending hours on dell and apple tech support, buying a firewire card, i figure it out.
I had a bad file in my library (it was a podcast).
once i deleted it, everything was fine.
see if you can see at what song you get that error and delete that song.. good luck.

  • Can publish to a folder; error messages to mobile me?  why?

I've had lots of problems documented all over these boards this weekend.
Where I'm at now is that I have imovie 09 and I've published my entire set to a folder. When I view the site from that folder it works just fine.
When I go to publish this site (that worked just fine in 08) it takes a long time to create all the pages (my domain site was just over 3g) and then goes to publish and I eventually get an error message. I've tried removing the pages that are referenced then it moves on to another page the next time I try it. I've pasted a sample below.
Any ideas here? If it works from the folder, and I've never had any issues with mobile me and uploading in the past, what do I do from here?
An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/uD/uDnOLB5IEkGuvPfGSseTk++TI/TemporaryItems/com.apple.iWeb129_TEMP_255219680_5/sites/Site/Photo_Albums/Pages/Isaac_Plays_Guitarfiles/Media/AZ150001/web.jpg”. Try publishing again later.

It looks like they are having problems with the Apple servers. Today when updating my blog, I got a message asking me if I wanted a MobileMe account. After some fiddling I got it to publish. It looks like this is a server thing. Just wait a bit and try again later. Don't change anything on your computer. We always suppose it is our own computer that is at fault, but quite often the Apple servers can't handle it.

  • Can't Write a Review On Mac App Store

I purchased an application on the Mac App Store and I would like to write a review but it won't let me saying that "To review this app, you must have purchased it from the Mac App Store". I did purchase my app from the Mac App Store. Has anyone else had this happen or know how to get it working?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Thanks for your reply.
I do it on my iPod.  In the App Store's description of the app, at the bottom just below the screenshots, I tap the button that states the number of reviews currently posted as to go read them, then I tap "Write a review".  When I did it I was asked for my password, which I entered, then I was asked for a pseudonym, as none had yet been created.  I provided the same as here (I want to use the same in both places), then I typed my message (number of stars, title, message), and tapped "Send".
Now, I have proof this has nothing to do with the app's manufacturer, as it's all handled and managed by Apple's App Store.  I tried doing the same again today but for another app, the Convert Units for Free app, which I'd just downoaded.  This is an app for which there are 4 reviews posted as of yesterday, and 2 as of today, for a total of 298!  So this app does receive reviews, unlike the other one.  So I tapped "Write a review", and, this time, I wasn't even asked for my password!  The Pseudonym line didn't appear either.  I wrote my review (chose a numer of stars, wrote a title, then the text), then tapped "Send".  I wasn't asked for my password then either.  Same **** result as yesterday!  Now when I come back and tap "Write a review" again, it brings back what I wrote.  Same result when I tap "Send" again.
So then, I went back to the iBig Ben Pro app, went into the reviews, and tapped "Write a review".  My review for that app came back in the editor!  Complete with my pseudonym on the Pseudonym line!  I tapped "Send" again, and still the same result.
In between these two experiences, I tried tapping "Write a review" for an app I hadn't downloaded.  It asked me for my password, as it did for the first app described here after I'd downloaded it.  I didn't proceed further.
This is really odd, and I think I'll take the concern to the Apple Store in the mall across the street (I heard the guys there are eager to answer our questions).  Not that I don't appreciate the answers I get here, quite the opposite, but I'd get to show an Apple person what happens before his eyes, which can't be done here.

  • Can anybody help? Permission problems. Can't write to folder(s)

I recently created a partition on my new SSD hard drive and copied my backup files from TIME MACHINE with Carbon Copy Cloner.
Now the problem is that I can't create new folders inside the new partition without putting in my password.
I basically can only READ and not WRITE without each time reconfirming my password. This means I can't use Lightroom. LR says it can't use the catalogue because it can't be modified.
I've tried the Command + I (get info) and tried changing the permissions to READ AND WRITE (apply to enclosed items) and I've tried Disk Utility. Strangly enough, the partition I'm having problems with WON'T ALLOW ME TO VERIFY OR REPAIR PERMISSIONS!!! IT'S GREYED OUT!
Another thing I've tried is restarting my computer while holding down Command + R to reboot in Disk Utility mode...my computer just starts up normally and doesn't do any of that. rrrrrrrr.....
Please help. I'm in a pickle here.
    Thanks in advance...

is your domain set correctly in the idmapd.conf on the server and the client machine? I also normally don't set the user name and user group and just use the default that it comes with.
Also, where are your nfs shares exported from the server?
Also did you read this from the wiki
autofs wiki wrote:Each host name needs to be resolveable, e.g. the name an IP address in /etc/hosts or via DNS and please make sure you have at least nfs-common installed and working.

  • Guys give me a hint in how can i copy file/folder from mac to usb ?

I´m trying to transfer some files from my mcbook Pro retina display to external disc(usb) and i´m not able to. Anybody can help me in this case?

Is "transfer" nondestructive (copy) or destructive (move/delete) from your rMBP to the external USB.
Are you using the Finder, or Terminal commands for this process?
Is the external USB device formatted as either FAT or HFS+?
If you receive error messages, can you share them here?

  • I can't send i folder from mac to iPhone 5s why?

how can i send folder via bluetooth? from my macbook pro to iPhone 5s?

I'm only trying to sync 350 songs. When I click "sync" the process will start but it won't end in my iTunes. My iPhone's sync symbol dissapears and the sync symbol in iTunes in my PC is still there. The sync process that consits of 5-7 steps won't finish the last step and keeps "downloading Safari secure browsing data" (I don't know if this translation is correct, I'm Spanish and iTunes is set up in Spanish too)
I've tried turning off Wi-Fi because some people got rid of this problem this way supposedly, but it didn't work at all

  • Constantly going into "unhappy" & ! folder error

    Hi everyone
I'm having some problems with my iPod 30Gb Photo
it seems to periodically go into either the "unhappy" (normally this one) or "! folder" error, when it does this it doesn't recognize that i've got it plugged into my computer and shows the "can't mount iPod" message, and so I can't restore the HD. However when it doesn't have the "unhappy" or "! folder" error it is recognized as per usual.. I've tried everything I can but as far as I can tell sometimes it just magically returns to normal and until it does I cant use it

Please believe me, I did manage to solve these "can't mount" and "folder error", however you need to fix it with a Mac computer if your iPod formatted by a PC, or vince verse. First you must plug your iPod with a AC charger, put it in Disk Mode, plug your PC's formatted iPod with a Mac computer, your iPod will show up in the Desktop, open the Disk Utility and do a ERASE (fomat) in MS Dos format. Once completed, plug it with your PC and you will see the window pop up and ask you to do the Restore for your PC to read it. Then open the iPod updater and click Restore.

  • I'm trying to share folder between users on a single mac.  I put the folder in "shared," set permissions so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.  Any help?

I'm trying to share a folder between users on a single mac.  I want both users to be able to read and write so the folder stays current on both accounts.  I put the folder in "shared," set permissions on folder so other user can read and write, enabled file sharing, but can't find the folder on the second user's account.  Any help?

Did you log out of one account and into the other or just used Fast user switching?
Is the permissions set to anyone?
When you move data to teh Shared folder is it copied or just moved?
If copied then it's not a folder both can access, just a way station like a USB thumb drive that things are coped too and off of likely.
You can run this #5 on each user account to reset the user permissions once they are taken back out of the Shared folder

I can't open Itunes on my mac. error 130001. how to fix?

    Hi gingerjacker,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Did you restart your Mac and try again?  Sounds simple, but it's a good first step when troubleshooting.
If the issue persists you may need to delete iTunes from the Applications folder and download a fresh copy.  This does not affect your iTunes library, which is in a different location.

  • Error, can't write to temp

    Hello,
On a Mac with Creative Cloud, when I try to install any application I get this error message :
    Installation failed
    Error, can't write to temp..

Iozo the next step would be to try a new local administrator account to see if you face the same difficulties.  Are you receiving any other strange behavior under your current User account?  I would think you would be seeing errors much more often if you were unable to write to the temporary directory.
Another option is that you may want to look at the security software you are using.  Perhaps it is attempting to prevent our installers from writing to the temporary directory.  This could explain while your file permissions are correct but you still receive the same error.

  • Broken Folder Error On Mac Mini

    Hi,
I recently brought Mini Mac of i5 2.3ghz 8GB 500GB hdd, when i have got the system it's was perfectly alright and today when i have tried to install windows 7 on my mini mac by divided 500 into two partition while installing i did not found Bootcamp Drive on windows installation so by mistakenly i have removed the mac OS Drive and installed Windows 7 after installing i found that it's not showing the Mac OSX on booting option so i tried to make a bootable USB for installing Lion but when ever i am trying to install it's showing BROKEN FOLDER ERROR and switching of the system automatically i have also tried flashing PRAM etc but no use and i don't have a external dvd drive so i need to install any thing by USB only so please help me to resolve this issue

    I'd kill for 256 kbps
Without knowing how you created the USB installer, it's hard for me to say. If you did it correctly your computer should be able to boot from the USB and everything ought to be easy to figure out from there. If that isn't happening, I'd say it's not worth pursuing.
Did you try to boot with Startup Assistant? Try restarting your computer while holding an Option key. If the USB is an option it will appear, but since you already got the "broken folder" icon after a normal boot I can only assume it will not appear.

  • Can't write to HD, must reboot, error -50

It's happened four times in three months. Suddenly the Mac can't write to the hard disk (error -50) and I have to reboot. I have to close all open programs with errors because they can't write their configuration files. Recent email mail be lost. I can copy a file from the primary hard disk to another internal hard disk, but I can't duplicate a file on the primary hard disk.

I'm not sure this helps, as the disk is not an iDisk or WebDav, it's just the internal hard disk. Also, I did a Carbon Copy Clone yesterday and it's set to repair permissions before a clone, so permissions were corrected 24 hours before the most recent failure. That said, Disk Utility did report the following issues today:
    New permissions:
    ./Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    ./Library/ColorSync/Profiles
    ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util
    New uid:
    ./private/var/at/jobs.
    ./private/var/at/spool.
Owner and group corrected on ./private/var/log/install.log
    Permissions corrected on ./private/var/log/wtmp
