Can't write to Blue-ray Disc

After experiencing failures attempting to perform an 18GB data backup to CD or DVD using almost every backup program on the market, I decided to try using Vista Live File System to a Blue-ray disc.  While I can use Vista's Live File System to write CDs & DVDs, I get the error "Windows can't write to the disc you inserted...".  Has anyone seen this issue and found a solution?  My Blue disk drive shows as: HL-DT-ST BD-RE GGW-H20N ATA Device.
Thanks in advance, Gary

Yep! And so far, I can't use it.  Neither can I use any commercial backup program to write to either (yes, I have 2) optical drive, CD, DVD or BD inserted.  Silly me...expecting all this to work right out of the box!

  • Can not burn a Blu-ray disc

The problem: Can not burn a Blu-ray disc.
I open Premiere Elements 12 and load my project and then go to “publish and share” my project, I select "create Disc – Burn DVD, Blu-ray and AVCHD disc", I select "Blu-ray", the disc location and settings box opens and the “status” setting indicates "Media not present”.  I know the Pioneer Blu-ray BDR-2208 drive works properly because I have already published regular DVDs in it and had no problems.  I thought perhaps it was a problem with the initializing of the disc whether you choose (Mastered) as opposed to (Live File System). Neither works. I tired Phillips BD-R disc & Memorex BD-RE disc, neither works.  The only thing I noticed was the burner location setting is indicating a Pioneer BDR-208M burner rather than a Pioneer BDR-2208 burner. Could this be the problem? Remember that burner will burn regular DVD's.  Does Premiere Elements 12 require some other additional software on my computer to burn a Blu-ray disc?  Also is there a list of compatible Blu-ray burners? BTW I am using Windows 8.1.

Attached is a screenshot of the dialog box that opens up when I place a regular DVD or Blu-ray in my desktop computer.
In order for me to burn a DVD project in premiere elements if I do not initialize the disc with the above procedure I receive a media not present in the settings box of premiere elements.  I assumed I have to do the same thing with a Blu-ray too.  I've tried following this procedure, also tried using the live file system.  Also tried putting a fresh disc in without doing anything to it and always receive the media not present in the status setting.  One suggestion has been that another program is interfering with premiere elements.  I will also go out and purchase some Verbatim BD-RE disc, whether they work right now or not I can always use them later after I solve my problem.
I Have a lot of great suggestions from you guys and I really appreciate it.  I'm going to work on some of those today starting with loading imgburn and see if I can indeed burn a Blu-ray disc with my system.  I have already created a AVCHD BDMV file on my computer and I will start with trying to work with that and see if that is successful and then come back to premiere elements.  I appreciate the input regarding Cyberlink software.  I have version 8 (came with my Pioneer Blu-ray Drive) and was thinking about upgrading to the latest version but with your input regarding Power Producer I will save my money.
Another thought I had, with Blu-ray disc burners being as cheap as they are purchase one that has been proven to work with premiere elements 12.1.  Time is money, the cost of a new Blu-ray burner is insignificant.  I will consider this option later.

  • TouchSmart IQ816 can no longer play Blu Ray discs

For the last 5 months or so my TouchSmart has not been able to play my blu ray movies. I was told that this was a problem with an update of the MediaSmart DVD program. I had this same issue on my HDX18; I uninstalled MediaSmart DVD and reinstalled it to roll back the version. However, this did not work with my TouchSmart, and subsequent updates have not remedied this issue. It can still play DVDs and CDs just fine, but it no longer picks up blu ray discs. I have read various forums, and many people have had this same issue, some even resorting to a factory reset; I cannot afford to do that. I have heard that it is an underlying problem with the Cyberlink software that runs beneath the MediaSmart software, and even cases of HP support telling customers that they should BUY the updated Cyberlink software. When I purchase a computer , I am not expecting to pay extra for features that should have come built in. I have an Optiarc BD DRV BC-5600S.

    Rob,
Not sure which OS you are running, but there is an updated version of the player software for Win7 that might make a difference...

Otherwise, you could try uninstalling the application, and reinstalling it from application recovery.

  • Once and for all: Can DVD SP build Blu-Ray disc content or not?

    Maybe I’m crazy, but…
Everything I’ve heard to date has Apple backing the Blu-Ray format. Believing this, I just spent $900 on a new Lacie D2 external Blu-Ray burner (which IS Mac compatible). I also purchased Toast 8 (which IS Blu-Ray compatible).
All I need to do now is build my disc content (assign H.264 1920x1080 content, build menus, etc.) then drop it all into Toast and burn Blu-Ray video discs… right?
So what is all this I’m reading here about DVD Studio Pro supporting the HD DVD format and not Blu-Ray???!!!!!!
Am I going to be able to do this using DVD SP or not, and if not, can anybody tell me a program I can use to build my Blue-Ray disc content? (All of my HD content is H.264 (1920x1080) rendered directly from Adobe After Effects).
My deadline for this project is fast approaching and I’m hoping somebody can shed some light on this. If I can build Blu-Ray discs and burn them on my Mac using Toast 8 and the Lacie D2, I’ll make my deadline and justify the $900 spent thus far.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks, SM

    Wait a minute,
Maybe I don’t need to buy PC to run DVDit Pro HD. I have a Mac Pro! With Boot camp I have a PC! Any reason I shouldn’t try running DVDit on my Mac via the Boot Camp beta? That way I'd also be using my Lacie D2 Bu-Ray drive. And with Roxio's 30 day return policy I haven’t much to loose...
I'm calling Roxio tech support. Let you know how it goes

    A LITTLE LATER:
Just got back from digging into Roxio's discussion forum and here's what I found:
I have travelled down the same frustrating path my friend!
But I did succeed doing it all on my new mac Pro, finally...
Install BOOTCAMP (free beta). Install WINDOWS XP ($269 from AMAZON). Install ULEAD BD RECORDER, which comes with DVD MOVIEFACTORY 6 (free trial, $80 to buy).
BDAV worked well from SONY V1-U burning to MATSHITA BD-MLT SW-5582 and played perfectly in new SAMSUNG 1200 palyer on my 57" DLP.
TIP - install BOOTCAMP et al on its own HD, and use NTFS... This will come in handy when doing a BDAV from a file such as HDV1080 that is larger than 4GB.
To do BDMV, you'll need SONIC DVD-IT PRO HD ($499) which I have yet to try...
Frustrating process, but kinda cool to figure it all out, especially when NOBODY in sales at any of these places seems to have a clue.
So there you go - must be possible

  • Can my Mackbook play Blu-ray discs?

Recently I bought a LG Blu-ray drive, but all my blu-ray discs did not seem to work even with Blu-ray drive. I tried Powerdvd, and it can not be compatible on my Mac OS. Is there any good Mac Blu-ray Player?

There's this one. You'll find at least a couple of others under different names, but they're all by the same company. The only real difference between them is the looks of the control bar.
It's kind of expensive because you're paying the license fee on the built in codec so it can read and decode the movie for playback. You also have to be online when watching a commercial Blu-ray movie as it does some sort of authenticity verification of the disk.

  • How can I watch my Blu-ray discs on the iPad?

    Hello guys,
I got some Blu-ray movies and I want to watch them on my iPad, could you tell me some good tools which can help me ?

It is going to be very difficult, if at all possible.
First, is getting the content accessible to the iPad. Have yet to see a BD player that can be connected to it.
Then, getting it to read, decode and display the content. The App Store shows absolutely no app that could do it. VLC can on a PC or Mac, but it requires additional software not on the iPad platform.
Lastly, where are you going to store the content? Each title is tens of GB's in size.

  • IMac won't accept blu-ray discs

My iMac won't accept a blu-ray disc when I insert it - the iMac spits it back out after about 10 to 15 seconds. I then tried a normal DVD and the iMac accepted it and started playing it almost immediately. Is it not possible to play blu-ray discs on an iMac or Powerbook? Are there any fixes?

    Hi guys,
I in the same situation as Seattle Oz, in that I am thinking of buying an iMac and would like to use it to produce high-definition videos. I currently use a Sony VAIO VGN -- A R21S which has a Blu-ray disk drive. I am told that with the use of Roxio Toast, I can burn to a Blu-ray disc but cannot play it. I find it pretty incredible that a product that is renowned for video editing and allows you to produce a Blu-ray disc doesn't actually have the facility to play it! However that being the case, what does anyone else do, to produce HD quality videos and how do they export them, if not by Blu-ray disc. I would also like to know what format the output is in, when it is burned onto the Blu-ray disc.

    Hello,
I tried to create a blu-ray disc witj Fonal Cut Pro 7 (menu Share) and with Final Cut Pro X Trial (menu Share), but both the times after a certain period of processing (about an and a half) an error message appears, QuickTime Error:0
Has anyone experienced such a problem, I can't burn a Blu-Ray disc with my bramd new HD drive and it seems that Final Cut Pro has a problem? Before buying Final Cut Pro X ...

it's just copying files to it, not video.  If you put a blank blu-ray disk in the drive, it may show up in the finder.  A program like Toast can burn a blu-ray.

  • Mixed frame rate video clips on the same Blu-ray disc

Before I go into the detail, this actually isn’t an issue for me, but more of a finding the answer to a different question, so please bear with me.
To explain:  I live in the UK, and I’m forever challenged by the different native video frame rates imposed by the PAL and NTSC standards.  Every consumer camcorder I’ve ever seen only produces HD output (1920 x 1080) at either 50 fields/second interlaced, or 25 (sometimes 50) frames/second progressive.  Some action cameras (Go Pro) I possess allow me to record at 30fps progressive, in full HD, which for fast movement is simply better.  This in itself is not really a problem, but I use other software (all USA sourced) for video production whose best results are only visible when the finished HD output is 1080/60i.
Having mixed frame rate video is a real problem for the DVD standard, but no so much for Blu-ray. Indeed Adobe Encore neatly gets around this problem, so I can actually author a Blu-ray disc which contains full HD video clips that may be either 50i or 60i.  Both types of video exist on the same disc, and when played back through a Blu-ray player/TV combination, the resultant video clips are shown correctly. Player and TV switch seamlessly to the correct setting to handle the video content.  So, I have a solution to my problem, but at the same time, a question I can’t find an answer to, which is this:
Does the Blu-ray specification allow video clips of different native frame rates (i.e. 25fps and 30fps) assuming the resolution is the same, to co-exist on the same Blu-ray disc as a supported feature?
It works, but I can’t find one shred of information that says what I’m doing is supported.
    Comments are most welcome.
    Regards,
    Steve

Encore requires you to specify the project type as PAL or NTSC (whether you start it as Bluray or DVD), and does not allow you to change it later. Also, if you try to create a transcode type for PAL in an NTSC project you cannot get to the 25 fps setting (and therefore, I think, cannot do it).
But if you import a Bluray legal 25i file to an NTSC project, it is happily added.
DVD player conventional wisdom is that PAL players handle NTSC disks, but NTSC players do not generally handle PAL disks. I never quite understood why the TVs were not more of the issue. Do Bluray players even differentiate between PAL and NTSC?
Even if the player will handle PAL, the TV may well not do so - so there is more going on.
NTSC uses (generally) 60Hz systems whereas PAL is 50Hz hence the problem.
Do not try to mix standards as it will not be allowed - however, multiple frame rates are allowed as long as they are within spec for that TV standard.
They are best avoided though - otherwise you run a very real chance of serious asset truncation as the TV display switches between different resolutions & frame rates.

  • Producing a Blu-ray disc

I took video with my Sony EX1 and run it through Compressor so I can produce a HD Blu-ray disc.
Does anyone know what I have to purchase now to produce this. I have all the current Apple professional software and it will not do it.

Just a little bit of looking in the forum, maybe even a search would find you the answer. Turns out this was just posted this morning. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1769552&tstart=0
It was also cross posted in the DVD SP forum, where, I would suspect most disc queries to be answered.

  • Importing a Blu-ray Disc that I created

I created a Blu-ray Disc and I lost The master file. How can I import the Blu-ray Disc to be re-edited again?
    Thanks
    joe

Let me Google that for you.
Be sure to rip into a video format that works well in After Effects:  ideally, an intermediate codec like Quicktime PNG or Animation, Quicktime ProRes, Uncompressed AVI etc.

  • Is it possible to write 2 different project on one blu ray disc?

I have about 23 Gb project of stills photos and still cameras video clips. But I also have some additional footage on hd from an hd  video camera.
My blu ray disc are all 50 gb and I wonder if I could  add a second project to the disc and how to go about it, as well as if it is possible how I'll create menu/s to get it working.
I posed the question in quite a few places but it does not return any relevant answer.
I have not worked with blu ray before but since the writers are much cheaper it became affordable for me and I got an external usb Samsung writer.
Window 7 recognises it but Encore (CS 4) does not -  anyway I found out it's probably better to use the "folder" option than the disc. I have created a rewritable BD using the image (iso) option with "imgburn". and although it stopped at 75% I was surprised that the BD plays with the complete project and no problem! (my rewritable is only 25Gb) so I can't experiment with with these particular projects.)     Thank you

My try does not seem so lucky
I added to my earlier succesful BR project 2 more time lines. On one I had video clips from several still cameras (2 panasonic and one Nikon) and on the other timeline, my .mts clips from my hd Everio video cam.
The Encore projects was previewing well and did not return any error (pre building).
I output the encoding to a folder and followed the imgburn well detailled instruction to burn to a folder,  i found them on the net and they were very well explained and my burning went exactly through the same steps explained.
so the procedure progressed over a few hours (it showed the size of 25.5 GB) When it was complete the disk was ejected with a message that it could not be shut again and this happens with slim external drives or Laptops.
I'm not sure what is going on now, but when I put the disk in my entertainment player It asked me If I want copy or format the disk and it won't play.
As this is the second time it happens I put it back in my BR writer, and like the first time It's going threw (I think), a "miscompares" check.
Now it's through 40% and not showing any error, but i seem to remember that I clicked "Yes" to ignore "miscompare"
So I don't really know what is going on, this is almost like 15 hours the process has been on (including the retry).
The BD-RE (50gb DL) is the same colour as the new one I have not idea if anything is written on it.
My first successful project was only animated stills with sound track added to it and burnt onto a rewritable 25 gb BR.
Well any help will be welcome:)

  • Blu-ray discs don't seems to write a 'lead-out'. Help!

    Hi,
I am using Premiere Pro CS4 with Encore CS4. Up until now I have always used DVD's and not blu-ray discs and have never had a problem. I now film in full HD and would like to be able to build blu-ray discs in Encore.
I import to Encore through dynamic link, and set my blu-ray project to PAL 1980x1080, 25fps - the same as my original footage and premiere sequence. The disc appears to burn ok, and you can see there is data on the disc. However, the disc is rejected by my sony blu-ray player, and both the blu-ray disc drives in my PC. It keeps telling me that the format is unsupported. I have tried lowering too 1440 and even 720 and it makes no difference at all. I made sure the region was correct too - region 2 (as i'm in the UK).
I have tried importing very short sequences so that I can watch the process, and I have noticed that unlike my DVD discs, the blu-ray doesn't seem to write a 'lead-out). It says it's complete but it's almost as if it doesn't finialise the disc for playback.
I am so confused, and at this stage rather frustrated! Has anyone got any pointers as to what may being going wrong here?
    Thanks,
    Cath
