Can't write to temp directory

hi! i'm trying to install Oracle9i enterprise edition on a Windows XP Pro system. once i click setup, it gives me a message saying that the installer can't write to the temp directory?!
on checking the temp directory, i found that it's marked as read only, and there's no way i can't uncheck it, it just keeps coming back?!! even if i create a new folder and specify it as the temp directory, it is the same.
is this a problem with the Oracle installer or windows? cos i'm installing other softwares(from other vendors) and it's okay.
i am already having the full computer administrator rights.
thx.

Can I somehow disable DM's awareness of the source control?That's in "Preferences>Extensions" - disable versioning support there. Still I won't recommend to save it over existing design - existing directories will be deleted including svn directories. It's safer to save the content in another directory and copy it back to versioned directory; also files that have older date should be removed from versioned folders.

  • Error, can't write to temp

    Hello,
    On a Mac with Creative Cloud, when I try to install any application I get this error message :
    Installation failed
    Error, can't write to temp..

    Iozo the next step would be to try a new local administrator account to see if you face the same difficulties.  Are you receiving any other strange behavior under your current User account?  I would think you would be seeing errors much more often if you were unable to write to the temporary directory.
    Another option is that you may want to look at the security software you are using.  Perhaps it is attempting to prevent our installers from writing to the temporary directory.  This could explain while your file permissions are correct but you still receive the same error.

  • Applications can only write to home directory...[SOLVED]

    ...if logged in as root
    I'm sure that this topic has be covered before, but I just cant find anything.
    When I'm logged in as root, all applications work fine but when I'm logged in as myself most applications moan about not being able to create a directory.
    For example if I start Geany, it complains:
    Configuration directory could not be created (Permission denied).
    There could be some problems using Geany without a configuration directory.
    Start Geany anyway?
    Epiphany had the same issue so I manually created the .epiphany directory/folder that it wanted to write to.
    I'm sure its a permissions issue, but i can set my home dir to chmod -R 777 ... and the applications still complain
    > groups gary
    root wheel network video audio floppy storage users
    I added myself to the root group, still no joy.
    What do I need to do? Is there some group that I need to add to the user?
    Many thanks in advance,
    gazza

    thanks everyone.
    I had a play and changed the owner to root and then back to <user> (using chown -R <name>) .
    Started geany no complaints, started ooffice no complaints
    problem solved.
    BTW I was refering to ~ rather than /home
    I must have caused the problem by renaming/ creating directorys while acting as root.

  • Installation error for Indesign CC "Unable to extract to temp directory. Contact Customer Support EX11". What can I do?

    Haven't been able to install Adobe Indesign CC through Creative Cloud. Gives the following installation error "Unable to extract to temp directory. Contact Customer Support EX11". What can I do?

    Jeremy Jediel Gongora then it is likely a file permission failure as was previously discussed.  You can find details on how to adjust the file permissions of your temp directory at Error "Exit 6" or "Exit 7" | Install log | Read, write, system file errors | CS5, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-exit-6-exit-7.html.
    I would also recommend reviewing your installation log files for additional error messages.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation log files at Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

  • Can i prevend the generation of files in temp directory

    I noticed, that a labview (7.0) application generates different files in the temp directory when executed and deleting them when stoped.
    (Except of the *cur.txt and *log.txt files which only exists once per application)
    Is there a way to prevend LabView to write this files (lvtl*.rsc; lvtr*.rsc; *.tmp)
    I've got an application, which i have to kill (there's no other way at this moment).
    If i do so, the files still exist. I kill this application about once a minute.
    Because i don't end the application the regular way, the mentioned files still exist.
    As a result the temp directory runs full.
    Suggestions are appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Rainer
    P.S.: The Suggestion to regular stop the application does not help me of course ;-)

    Rainer,
    Nice question!
    There are different ways for doing this. Unfortunately no any "100% guaranteed" way (because its not documented by NI - which temporary files are created by LV app):
    So, first suggestion with deletion of all temporary files seems to be safety, because normally Temp directory must be empty. In case if some files currently used by other applications, they locked and you cannot delete them.
    Second way - change path to temp directory especially for your application. Just add tmpdir key into assotiated ini file:
    [app]
    tmpdir=C:\MyApp\Temp
    After that lvtl*.rsc; lvtr*.rsc will be created into this directory. You can safety delete these files after kill.
    (Note, that "*" is pid of your application)
    Third way - looking for all handles, which currently opened by your application. You can do this with some utilities, for example with Handle.exe from SysInternals.
    For example for my simple application following output was generated (some not important lines are skipped):
    Handle v2.2
    App.exe pid: 656
    cc: File C:\Temp\App_7.0_Administrator_cur.txt
    144: File C:\Programme\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\7.0\lvapp.rsc
    148: File C:\MyApp\App.exe
    1f0: File C:\Temp\nix2E5.tmp
    210: File C:\MyApp\Temp\lvtr656.rsc
    214: File C:\MyApp\Temp\lvtl656.rsc
    760: File C:\MyApp
    Now you can parse output and looking for all currently opened temporary files, then kill your your application and then safety delete tmp and rsc files. Note, that files lvtl*.rsc and lvtr*.rsc are located in "local" temporary directory as described in ini file, but nix*.tmp still in "default" directory.
    Hope it help a little bit...
    Andre.

    It seems like a permissions issue, but I can't seems to get a handle on it.
    I have chowned  /home/net/Data/Download/sabnzb/ to sabnzbd:sabnzbd
    chmod and umask to 777
    Set the permisions in the UI to 777
    All the latest chatter on the AUR package page is about systemd, which I (as far as I know) is not the issue and wiki page is flagged as out of date. Most of the wiki page is about getting it to run as a different user anyway, and I had this running just fine as the default user.
    I recently moved my install to a bigger hard drive, so this may be related to that, rather than the upgraded package.
    If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

    I took Beg's advice and looked at the ownership of the home directory. Turns out that everything was owned by root:root, but the permissions were wide open.

    I still get the same error
    I tried running the program as user 'net' and had the same problem
    Transmission has the same error as well
    Couldn't create "/home/net/Data/Incoming": Permission denied (fdlimit.c:348)
    So permissions are wide open and owned by the proper users, but sabnzbd and transmission can't write, but samba can.
    What does that mean?

  • Applications can't write the download update in the applications directory

    I migrate from a 24" iMac to a MacBook Pro, from Leopard version 10.5.2 to 10.5.2 Something went wrong, the assistant create a new user and I deleted it and the User folder for that user, as a result (I guess) the applications that migrate from the iMac can't write the updates (authorized to download) in the Application folder or in the Application support folder.
    Perhaps when I try to create a new admin account, the form don't let me use my prior short name as a login admin, it tell me that already exist although is not there.
    Only Adobe software updates ok because is the only one that ask for a different location because it can't write to my prior home folder (I deleted it!).
    Just to make things worse, I open the info for my Applications Folder and the Applications Support Folder, and change the privilege for my self to read and write, also for everyone and apply to all items include.
    There is something I can do to go back to normal? without painful reinstallation?

  • Applet accessing temp directory in Vista

    My signed applet requires access to a directory where it can read/write files. Apparently the temp directory is one place where an applet can do this. The method System.getProperty("java.io.tmpdir") returns the path to the temp directory on Windows XT or 2000. But Vista denies access to reading this property. I also tried System.getProperty("user.name") with the same result.
    Any suggestions on how to get the path to the temp directory under Vista, or some other low security area where a signed applet can read/write files?
    Thans for your help.

  • I can't write to my Drobo

    I have a new iMac (like this):
    I am trying to connect the Drobo that I used to use with my Windows Computer.  It has 4 drives @ 3TB each, and the whole drive is over half full, so I am not terribly interested in the cost that it would take to "back up" that whole disk pack.  It took some shenanigans (reboots of both the drive and the computer; disconnections, and reconnections; fiddling around with MAC Disk Utility) to get it to show up in Finder at all.  I still have issues with it unmounting and needing to remount it, but that's not my main issue.
    THE REAL PROBLEM:
    Though I can get the Drobo to show up in finder, and I can read from it, I can't write to it.  Based on some earlier searching I tried this terminal command, which helped it to show up in finder, but didn't seem to affect it's being read-only:

    Looking at another thread (partition map check failed because no slices were found), which I wandered into because I was getting this error in Disk Utility upon running Verify Disk because I got a failure when I tried to "mount" the drive in Disk Utility:

    Can anyone help me with a next step to make this drive read/writeable?

    Turns out that the Drobo needs to be plugged straight into computer. I had it via hub. Though it has worked for the past couple weeks in this configuration, the new update pushed it over the edge, I guess. Plugged in directly and working fine.

  • When installing, get "Error! Can't initialize plug-ins directory"

    Began having problems when opening Firefox and trying to make Firefox the default browser. Windows 7 updated, AVG up-to-date and virus scans clean, MalwareBytes up-to-date and scans clean. Troubleshooting finally caused me to uninstall and try for clean install ... normal Windows 7 uninstall process successful. Made sure Firefox folder in "Program Files" was deleted. Downloaded "DownloadApp_1_7_5_198_Setup" (29,442 KB) from Mozilla website and run ... get "Error! Can't initialize plug-ins directory. Please try again later."

    Thank you guig2! Followed your bleepingcomputer.com link above and found the problem was my permissions on C:\Users\Bill\AppData\Local/Temp. It was not "Full Control" for my User or Administrator. Updated the two lines to permit full control for folder, subfolder and files. Ran perfect.

  • Lync Hybrid : Unable to write to active directory due to lack of permission

    Hello everyone,
    I need a little help to troubleshoot a problem I have when moving a user to Lync Online.
    My client has a Dirsync and Adfs working perfectly with o365.
    My problem is that when I try to move a user to Lync Online I have this error :
    Move-CsUser -Identity "Username" -Target sipfed.online.lync.com -credential $cred -hostedmigrationOverrideUrl "https://admin0e.online.lync.com/hostedmigration/hostedmigrationservice.svc"
    "Move-CsUser : Unable to write to Active Directory due to lack of permissions"
    Like the error said, it's a lack of permission but what kind of permission do I need to make this work ? I've tried to googleit/technetit but no helpful topic found...
    Thanks in advance for your help and answers.

    Hi,
    Did you solve the issue by adding the account to RTCUniversalUserAdmins group?
    To move an on-premises user to your Lync Online tenant, run the following cmdlets in the Lync Server Management Shell, using the administrator credentials for your Microsoft Office 365 tenant. Replace "[email protected]" with the information for the user
    that you want to move.
    You can try to move the user from Lync Server on premises to Lync online with the help of the link below “Move users to Lync Online”:

  • Jar File caching in temp directory problem

    Hello,
    I have a problem where the java plugin is caching jar_cache9999.jar (where 9999 is any number 0-9) files in the temp directory. I have tried following the directions for disk caching in the documentation, but these files are always created, never destroyed.
    I was wondering:
    1. Is there a simple setting that I could set that should resolve this problem? (un-setting "cache jars in memory" wouldn't seem to solve the problem as I would think that would only force the browser to use the same jar if it had already been loaded)
    2. Has this problem been corrected in later releases of the java plugin? I am using the jre1.2.2. When I looked at the problem here in the forums, the bug that was listed was listed as fixed.
    Thanks,
    Dan Hughes

    Hi,
    Java Plug-in has supported disk caching in previous versions by using the same cache the browser uses for all other web documents. This works for casual applet usage, but larger applets can often get flushed from the cache to make room for other documents since the browser has no knowledge that an applet file might be needed in the future. The result is that this caching strategy fails where is needed most in large business applets.
    From 1.3. the new feature is activated by including the new "cache_option" , "cache_archive" and "cache_version" values in the EMBED/OBJECT tag that specifies the use of Java Plug-in as below:
    <OBJECT ....>
         <PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_option" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_archive" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_version" VALUE="...">
    </OBJECT>
    or
    <EMBED ....
         archive="..."
         cache_option="..."
         cache_archive="..."
         cache_version="...">

  • Error: Can't fetch initial working directory at...

    Hello all,
    I was messing around using GRID control to fire off RMAN jobs...and I was doing a full backup, used as an level 0 incremental, but, after I fired it off...I found I'd forgotten to set the job to use the RMAN catalog...
    At the end of the run I got the following error:
    Recovery Manager complete.
    Can't fetch initial working directory at /u01/GRID/oracle/10.2.0/agent10g/perl/lib/5.8.3/File/Temp.pm line 858
    Can someone tell me what this means? I've done some googling but haven't found anything on this error...is the backup good or did it fail?
    Thanks
    cayenne

    You may want to check Bug #5649288
    The backup itself should still be OK, but you should check the log output in the Jobs link of Grid.

    In Windows, setting the Environmental Variable sometimes DOES NOT WORK.
    The -Djava.io.tmpdir=C:\temp setting must be made in the server properties of the oc4j in order for it to work.
