Can't zoom photos on Apple TV

Greetings,
I've just purchased Apple TV (last generation, 1080p), but I have quite a problem with it - I am unable to properly "mirror" photos from my iPad or iPhone (iPad 2, iPhone 4S). I am trying to zooming in and out (via pinch-to-zoom or via double-tapping), but on Apple TV, the picture is still the same. I don't understand; mirroring should.. well.. mirror everything I do, and zooming the photos seems as a no-brainer. I am not sure if it's just terribly lacking feature or a problem with my particular setup.
Thanks in advance,
Johny

But they bother other people who don't want to see their 16:9 photos with black bars on all sides as tiny photos on a big screen. As I said it's one or the other you can't have both.
Well, it's not quite true, because 4:3 picture on 16:9 screen is not "tiny" (at least height is the same, just black bars on sides) - but at the same time, Apple TV "switch" to "full-screen" influence the picture nonetheless, because photos are 4:3 (not 16:9), so instead of black bars it just crops top and bottom..
But of course, I'd have nothing against this behavior if I had the choice like you mentioned (As I said it's one or the other you can't have both). For instance a switch between "mirroring" or "forced full screen". But as far as I know, it's not possible to have it one way or the other, just the other..
Rudegar: Yep, I've sent them the feedback and contacted the support as well. I just wanted to make sure if it is really a "proper behavior" or just a problem with my device. Sadly, it seem to be "feature".

no you can't only option is to take it apart and put the harddisk in an usb ext harddisk case and connect it to the computer copy the photos to the computer
take the harddisk out of the ext usb harddisk case and put it back into the appletv and assemble it again

  • Can I transfer photos on apple tv back to computer?

I had an external hard drive failure recently and lost iphoto library. All photos can still be viewed on my apple tv, however. Is there a way I can transfer the photos back into my photo library?

No, there's no official way of doing it.
Of course you could tear the device apart, stick the internal drive in a caddy, attach to a Mac and hope you can find the files.
Alternatively you could software hack the device, but you need to Google the answers on that one.

  • How can I transfer photos from Apple TV to a new MacBook Pro?  I have My Photo Stream turned on for both.

I have a new McBook Pro with OS X Mavericks.  I transferred my photos from my old MacBook Pro to my Apple TV.  I turned on My Photo Stream on both my Apple TV and my new MacBook Pro, and I want to transfer my photos to my new MacBook.  Will this work?  It's not transferring them automatically, but I don't know what else I need to do to make it work.  Thank you!

One edit to the location in iTunes -- as of today and iTunes 11.0.2, you need to go to:
iTunes | File | Home Sharing | Choose photos to share ....
and select the appropriate folder, then click the "Apply" button.

  • How can i see photos with apple tv from my time capsule files?

I have photos in my time capsule and i want to display them on my apple tv without a computer. Some sort of browsing in my time capsule from apple tv. Both are in the same wifi net, which uses time capsule as basis,

Unfortunately, you cannot do that. In order to share photos with your Apple TV, you need to select them through the advanced menu of iTunes on your computer.

  • Getting photos from Apple TV back to iPhoto

I have just loaded all my photos to Apple TV, a family member accidentally erased my entire iPhoto album from my iMac and from the TRASH, about 1,500 pics. I have disabled the sync on my Apple TV so I would not loose them on my Apple TV, is there a way I can get the photos off Apple TV or download them so I can get them back onto my iMac?
Thank you in advance for the help
    kpr

That kind of depends on whether or not the links to the photos still exists in itunes. I know that with movies and tv shows I can copy the files to an external HDD for backup and delete them from the itunes/Movies folder but not deleting the items from the itunes library from within the application. After syncing the movies and shows on Apple TV are still intact. Not sure if photos work the same way.
You will not be able to get the photos off the ATV without cracking the case but they are still there to be viewed. If the data is really important I wouldn't hesitate to open the box and void the warranty. Another apple TV is a bargain compared to losing one of a kind data. Who says it wouldn't work once you put it back together?

    No.
I find it extremely frustrating that Apple does not care for such an obvious bug affecting one of the basic funcionalities of AirPlay. Unless, of course, if there's something I don't know - but I've done some research and it seems that plenty of people have same issue and no solution is settled.

  • TS4425 How can I remove Photo Stream pics from my Apple TV slideshow?

I am a decorator and take photos of furniture, fabrics, etc on my phone daily, but I do not want these photos cycled in the slideshow on my Apple TV.  I have iTunes pulling photos from designated folders on my home computer, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove my iPhone photo stream pictures.  Suggestions?

    Hi lpetershagen,
Here is an article of information on ways to delete photos from Photo Stream:
iCloud: How to delete photos from Photo Stream

Alternatively, you can choose different photos for the Apple TV screensaver by following this:

    Ah, new to routers too.
Perhaps it's best to have a local computer support person come set you up?
To explain everything would require writing a book here.
But this is what you want basically.
Router, new Wireless N, firmware updated.
1: Two accounts, one admin, one guest Internet access. Random +30 plus character lenght passwords each preferred.
(guest password to max password length of any iDevices)
2: Encryption: WPA2 AES. No Ping. No remote access. No MAC filtering. Visible.
3: Guest access on devices and computers only.  Passwords written down and stored.
4: OpenDNS preferred but not mandatory.
If you get OpenDNS, you can log into their website for free and set parental controls on things like inappropriate sites for children. So whatever device is used on your network can't access a large portion of those sites (nothing is perfect) by most users who are not technical oriented.
What your doing now is running the bare bones unsecure router which can be used harmfully against you.
Even a Apple Airport router has to be very well secured. The defautl cd and out of the box setup is not a secure solution.
