  • I have a data connection but I can't make or receive phone calls or texts

I have a 3G data connection on my iPhone 5 at home, but I can't make or receive phone calls or messages.. I can surf the Internet though. I talked to a sprint representative and we went over everything and couldn't figure it out. Can some one plz help with this issue???

Phone and messages is a carrier issue. Sprint needs to check your account to make sure it is set up correctly. If everything looks good on their end, then do a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, try it.

Contact your carrier to insure that there is nothing wrong with your account. SMS is a carrier feature, so start there.

This is a user to user forum, not Apple. You will have to contact the Sprint network to see if they will unlock the phone for you. That is the only way to get it unlocked.

You're not speaking to Apple on in this forum, nor will someone from Apple see this post.   We are just users like you and I.
Have you tried to restore or reset your phone?
Or contact your carrier in re: to your sim card

  • My phone isn't connecting to 3G and I can't send or receive phone calls or texts.

So my phone just stopped being able to connect to 3G and stopped being able to send and receive phone calls and texts. It was working fine this morning and it shows that I have multiple bars "dots" but my 3G is reading 1x and says I can't make a connection. What should I do?

If you have looked where James suggested and you are saying that the phone number does not appear in there at all, you can add the phone number to the iPad but you may need to sign out of Messages on the iPad AND the iPhone.
Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number is not listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you are using on your iPhone.
On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number is still not listed, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and also in Settings > FaceTime.
Now sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.

  • Can you choose to block phone calls but not texts from a number?

So I have searched all over the place and have not found an answer.  I am sure someone has blocked me from calling them because when I try to call them I recieve this message: "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. The number you were trying to reach has calling restrictions which has prevented the completion of your call."However I am wondering if they can still receieve my texts.  I have sent two and they both show that they have been delivered on my phone and they both also show up on my online bill as having been sent from me and recieved to the number that I am pretty sure has blocked me.  Does Verizon allow someone to block just phone calls but not text messages?  Or if you block a number from calling does that mean texting from that same number is automatically blocked as well (or is it two seperate processes)?  I understand it may look like it has been sent on my end, but I am wondering, since I never got a "message failed" indicator or anything else telling me they never got it, if they were able to receive and read the 2 messages?  We both are Verizon customers by the way.  Thanks!!!

That person did block you, and no they cannot receive or read your texts.

  • Can't send texts to one particular friend, texts work one-way, phone calls work both way

For about a bit more than a month now, one particular friend (and just one, as far as I can tell) has not been receiving my text messages. He can send me texts messages and we are able to call each other. The texts emitted from my phone however, don't seem to go through. I have no indication that the text has not been delivered (no red exclamation point next to it). This particular person is not using an iPhone for this particular phone number.
I am using an iPhone 4 (32GB) running iOS 7.1.2.
I have tried many different things.
    (1) I have checked that this friend was not in my block list. The block list is empty. But even if that person were in my block list, would I be able to receive texts and call? I have tried adding that person to the block list then sending a text. Then removing that person from the block list and texting again.
    (2) Yesterday I have restored my phone from a backup. I then erased completely the (long) text exchange between me and this friend, waited for the phone to process the deletion and tried again to send a text. I then deleted the entire contact information of this friend. And then I texted the phone number.
None of these steps have worked. I'm very puzzled.
Has anyone ever been confronted to an issue like this one?

This friend has an iPhone and I can iMessage him on his other phone numbers (he has three). For a short time the Sim card attached to this phone number was inside an iPhone and we did iMessage each other but that was almost a year ago (April 2014). That sim card is now in an ordinary phone (not a smartphone, not an iPhone). We reverted back to texting for a long while. It only began to act strangely on January of this year.
On that friend's contact card, 2 of the numbers (the ones attached to his iPhone) have blue bubbles next to them. The number I can't send texts to doesn't have that blue bubble - meaning that the number doesn't have iMessage capabilities, right?

  • Why can't i receive texts while on a phone call on the iphone 5s

I receive all my texts after I hang up with a phone call. I don't even get notifications of a text at all while on a phone call. I know with iMessage you can't receive them while on a call but for normal texts how do I change that?

New phone? Peeled off the protective plastic from the face of the phone?

  • Can't text while on a phone call

Ok, this phone is awesome, but the first one i bought had this issue, when on a phone call i wasn't able to use the phone at all, i would go into settings and the touches wouldnt register, i would go into my messaging app and i couldn't even select the thread to send the message.   i returned the first one and got another, worked perfectly, UNTIL THIS NEW UPDATE.  now it has started again.   this is COMPLETE BS.  i can only talk while on the phone, and cant browse the web or use any other app at the same time.

Even worse than that, the phone app itself assumes you can remember the number of a person, and does not allow you to type the name of a person instead of their number!Despite the fact that sony only offers a number pad and no access to keyboard for entering a contacts name (like you have in iPhone, which immediately finds the contact and puts the number in for you), Sony puts the following message on the phone keypad; "ENTER NAME OR NUMBER"How on earth should i enter a Name??? There is no way to type any name with!!I tried holding a number key down to see if any alphabetic letters would appear , and not possibleSo why the message saying "enter name or number"????You cannot enter a a name. You have to use the contacts app to find the person and then call them, which for me is totally crazy. The phone should have a contact search in it and should allow you to search contacts with a keyboard like the iphone does, which has the contacts tab within the phone.. not just "recent" ones.. the whole list.  Sony is light years behind Apple with this. No contacts tab within the phone app (and search module), means you have to launch a separate app to call with. Having to launch contacts instead of the phone app to initiate a call, is RIDICULOUS Apart from this, to be honest, the Xperia Z is slow as heck with any operations, the double tap to wake takes about 6 attempts before it reacts (if at all). Testing its brain power against my iPhone using lets say Photoshop PSExpress, shows instant reaction in my iPhone but the Xperia takes three taps on any tool tab, and a 4 second delay before it reacts. This is the same with any app, and most apps crash half the time too. I was never an Android fan i admit, but my experiences with 'Xperia' (bad Xperience), has confirmed that however much RAM this phone may have, it is just a tortoise, and iPhone is the rabbit

  • IPhone 5 and Yosemite, can not send or receive phone calls on Mac

I have latest software on iPhone 5 and Yosemite and an update on cloud, still no phone calls are displaying on my mac or txt msgs... am I missing a step? Can only users who also have iPhones with Facetime only contact me via my computer?

    Hi ravanarrowood,
I had similar problems at the beginning. Bluetooth were switched on on both devices but the hands off was not working. Later I realized that iOS 8.1 was already released but my iPhone did not even notify me. Then I restored the iPhone connecting it to iTunes, installed iOS 8.1 and only after that bluetooth starting working properly and I could manage to pair both devices.
For text messages, try going to Messages --> Preferences --> Accounts --> iCloud account
You can be reached for messages at ... Add your cell phone number if it is not there already.
I could manage to receive the messages from my Mac with these settings. But still the messages are not syncing across devices but I am just receiving them from both devices. I delete a message from my iPhone in the morning and in the afternoon I re-receive it from my Mac. Interesting..

  • I can't make or take phone calls, but i can message and use data. Has this happened to anyone else? I've gone through three Samsung Galaxy S5's in the past three days, two of which have this problem and one just stopped working all together.

My phone doesn't have any cellular phone functions...but it CAN send text messages and access data. Has this happened to anyone else? I've gone through three Samsung Galaxy S5's in the past three days, the last two have this problem and the first stopped working all together. I've had new sim cards put in, ive done hard resets on the phone, i've rebooted the phone, done battery pulls, and tech support has reset the signal to my phone. Nothing has worked. (I just "upgraded" <- lol.... and my old phone IS turned off.)

Im in 79707. So to recap my whole case: I upgraded my device using the verizon wireless website. I received my phone and switched my old SIM card from my Droid Razr Maxx HD into the new Galaxy S5. Everything worked fine until the next morning (May 31st) when I woke up and the phone wouldn't turn on. I took the phone to the local Verizon store and they were also unable to turn it on. They issued me a new Galaxy S5 (referred to as phone 2) and switched my SIM card into that one.
With PHONE 2 i was able to make calls and receive calls, along with text and data for approximately four hours. After that, i was unable to use the phone function of the device, but text and data were still functioning. I took PHONE 2 back to the Verizon store where they attempted to hard reset the phone twice, they also installed two new SIM cards at the store. After this they would get the same error, which is the phone just reading "Dialing..." after attempting to make a call. The Verizon associate declared the phone "DOA" and issued me another Galaxy S5 (referred to as PHONE 3).
PHONE 3 worked well, with phone text and data featured intact from when I received it on the after noon of the 31st until approximately 2:30PM on June 1st. I contacted Verizon Tech Support via Gmail phone to attempt the correct the problem. They reset the connection, had me do a battery pull, had me close the "phone" application, and erase the data and catche, then restart the phone. All of which had no effect. My phone is still able to receive texts and use data (even with wifi off) it simply cannot make or take phone calls. all it says is "dialing..." when I attempt to make a call. When other phones call my device it rings once on their end and directs them to voicemail, PHONE 3 does not ring on my end.
I have made sure my old phone is completely powered down.

  • How to type text while making a phone call

I was topping-up my pay-as-you-go account today and keying in my credit card info when O2 autobot asked me for my postcode. How on earth do you use the letters on the alphanumeric keypad???

if you are asking how you send letters over a phone call... that is not possible... you can only send 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,*,# perhaps they just want you to press the number key with the letter on it? if this is the issue then you should contact O2 and ask them how to enter letters when prompted for a post code using the IVR system.
    my original post:
text entry changes depending on what function you are doing...
the letters on the keypad in the phone application are just there to help you dial numbers that are listed with letters instead of numbers... for example 800 BUY NOW3 or 866HOLIDAY
if you wish to send a text message press the home button at the bottom of the screen and select the "Messages" icon... if you don't see it slide left or right on the screen with one finger until you find the page it is on.
once your in messages you can create a new message and when you do so you will find the on screen keyboard changes to a alphabetic one to let you enter the messages. if you need other symbols and numbers on that keyboard press the "123" at the bottom.
