Can the 2 internal hard drives in the dv8t be configured as a raid 0 array?

I know the intel chipset supports (PM55) supports raid 0 but does the HP dv8t bios allow a raid configuration for the internal drives?

In the section titled 'Product description', it tells about the two hard drives, but mentions nothing about RAID. Therefore, I believe that it is not supported.

2009 MBP can't see internal hard drive - for the second time!

Well, my 2009 13" MBP is at Applecare for the second time because it cannot recognize _any_ internal hard drive.
The first repair came at 9 months (purchased new), now 16 months later I have the same issue.
Swap in a known good drive, it can't see it, boot from DVD, and run Disk Utility, it can't see it either (optical drive shows up fine)
My first repair only said they replaced the original hard drive, has anyone else had the issue of losing access to your internal hard drive?
Ugh, I will be out of the 3 year Applecare next summer, and don't want to get stuck with another iBook G3, if you know what I mean.

I have the same issue, I have a Vodafone branded Huawei HG556a with an external drive connected. I have found that it isn't possible to connect via Finder and that SMB doesn't work either. The only way I could connect to it was via FTP using Cyberduck (or Filezilla), but no use as I can't add my media files from the drive to iTunes, so unfortunately disappointing. I'm still looking, but here's the document I was referred too from another forum.

Although not an answer to your question, hopefully this will give you an idea why you are getting the password and username errors when you know they are correct. In the end when I entered the FTP details into Cyberduck I was able to connect.
I know this doesn't help solve the problem (as I'm still looking too), but at leas you know why (ish).

Can I replace internal hard drive using only my system recovery disc?

Hello Everyone and thank you so much for your help!
I have a Vista Desktop and have determined that I need to replace the hard drive.
I am hoping that I can set the jumper pin on the new hard drive to primary, remove the old drive, install the new drive and turn on the computer with the System Recovery (SR) Disc in my DVD drive, boot off of the SR Disc, and run the SR. Will this work or am I just dreaming?
On thing that might cause issues is that the original hard drive is 640GB, and it is no longer available, so the new one I have is 500GB..Everything else about the 2 drives is the same. Old drive: WD6400AAKS, New Drive: WD5000AAKS.

P.S.. In case it would be helpful to know why I think I need to replace the hard drive...in the mornings when I go to turn the computer on, the hard drive activity light never flashes even a single time and the computer doesn't boot. Through trial and error I have figured out that by doing this:
1) removing power from the computer
2) disconnect then reconnect both connectors to the hard drive
3) reconnect power to the computer
4) depress the computer On button
that the computer will boot and all is good for the day. However, I turn off the computer at night and the next morning have to follow the above procedure. Only removing power from the computer for 30+ minutes does not work, it seems to be necessary to disconnect the hard drive connectors.
This all started at the same time I got a virus on the computer that I was supposedly able to remove.
I have done the following to try to resolve the problem with no success:
1) Ran the diagnostics and passed all Tests, tests say hard drive is okay. (day 1)
3) Cleared the CMOS by removing the battery on mother board (day 1)
2) Did a System Recovery (day 2)
3) Ran Boot.exe /FixMbr (day 3)
4) Ran Boot.exe /FixBoot (day 4)
5) Ran Boot.exe/rebuild bcd (day 5)
I am thinking I must also have a virus on the boot sector that did not get written over when I did the System Recover...but I am a novice computer geek, so I know I could have missed something. :-)

Its easy Pal! You check your HDD first but not in the way you did. Just follow the steps with your old HDD.
1. Try a clean install(delete the partitions while installing OS) of other OS like linux or XP or Windows 7.
2. If it works properly the your HDD is OK.
3. Then work for some days with the OS installed to check the condition of HDD.
4. If any problem happens then you need to buy a new one or if its recently bought, go for RMA.
5. If there is no problem, then do a clean install(delete the partitions while installing OS) with your Vista Recovery.
6. Use a Better Security with MSE/Avira/Trand Micro
For Replacing with a different HDD, you must consult nearest HP Service Point for the change in your hardware configuration, so that they will register with Microsoft with the new HDD.
Note: Give the old and new HDD to HP Service Point employee.

We won't concern about RPM, faster (more rpm) is better. The HDD's are much, much, much, much cheaper now. They were more expensive during a flood in Thailand few yours back. Yes, you can use WD HDD for your computer. You can pick one from the following list:

Wndr4700 media router formatting hfs internal hard drive

Recently switched over to all macs in our house. I was thinking about getting a Netgear Wmdr4700 instead of a time capsule. The router utility can only format hard drives as ext4 which from what I've read is not read/write compatible with macs without additional software. However the router supports and recognizes pre formatted hfs+, or hfs+ journaled drives. Any ideas on how I can format an internal hard drive with a Mac mini or MacBook Air before installing it in the router? Mabye I'm missing something...

here is some info to help you out.
time machine will work perfectly fine with ext4 file system this is the default file system for the unit, i have have other netgear NAS devices with ext4 and btrfs and they also work fine with time machine. but if you so desire...
to format the drive with HFS+ you would need to do this via USB sata enclosure attached to mac mini or macbook air they cost about $20-30 the other option is if you know anyone with older mac pro (tower) they could format if for you or take it a place that repairs computers and they should be able to do this in just a few mins if they have a mac around, makes sure you create only 1 partition, GUID and choose mac osx entended journaled. make sure the wndr4700 firmware is updated first...ver 1.0.0.52 is the latest...then add newly formatted HFS+ drive turn back on and wait until unit shows green HD lights up on front. then follow instuctions to backup..my other advice is to buy an external 2.5 inch USB 3 drive as a secondary backup for your macs using time machine as well attaching it to your macs once a month (dont attach it to the netgear, even though you could), for backup...1 drive will work for several macs, buy according to size needed, backup once a month to this as well and then hide drive in your sock drawer, 2 backups are better than 1, good luck.
once your backups are all done, upgrade all your MACs to mavericks for free!!!!

Failing internal hard drive

When I run Disk Utility it reports a S.M.A.R.T. status of: Failing for my internal hard drive. I have backed everything up to an external hard drive and am using it as my boot drive. I'm thinking of replacing my internal drive. I was told that I will need to replace it with a 5400 RPM drive. Is this true, or can I replace it with a 7200 RPM drive? Also what is the maximum capacity with which I can replace my internal hard drive? Is there anything else I need to watch for when I get it replaced?

7200 would be fine in your computer, but without having an altra ata/133 card inside you are limitied potentially to the 128GB size as was stated. I have heard that there are solftware solutions to this problem if you are interested in putting a larger than 128gb HD in. Another thing is the fact of actually installing the HD, while it is possible to tackle it yourself there are some serious downsides if you do not get the thing back together correctly and with the right amount of torque and thermal paste on the heat sinks...

How to partition internal hard drive

I have a G5 Tower with 10.4.11 installed on an internal hard drive with a single partition. In order to partition the drive I have booted from the installation disk, opened Disk Utility, and was surprised to not see an option to partition the hard drive. I think that this has worked in the past but it's not working now.
How can I can partition my internal hard drive? I understand that I will need to reinstall the operating system after I do.

Well, in 10.4.11 Disk Utility you can only Partition if you erase everything!

Are iMac G5 17-inch / 20-inch internal hard drives interchangeable ?

BTW, they are both 2.0 Ghz.
Drive capacities would be different eg. 80GB vs 250GB.

What is the 14"? If it's a laptop no, they have 2 1/2" drives, iMacs have 3 1/2" SATA drives, so the answer is no. Sorry. If they are both SATA 3 1/2" drives, the capacity makes no difference and they can be swapped with no problem.

750 GB internal hard drive in 2001 Quicksilver

I want to use my old G4 Quicksilver as a backup storage device, so I want to put in a 750 GB hard drive. I already have a 2nd hard drive installed but it's only 80GB. Option one would be to replace this one with the 750GB. I believe there's a second option to install a 3rd hard drive, but I'm not sure if this is true - so that's the first question: can my Quicksilver take a 3rd internal hard drive of this size?
But my main question is, will I need a ATA PCI IDE Controller Card so that the OS will recognise a hard drive over 128GB? I bought my computer in October 2001 - dates seem to be important where this is concerned.

You can install (3) internal hard drives, but you'll undoubtedly need a Mac-compatible ATA-133 PCI controller card for the 750 GB drive. Since your Quicksilver is a 2001 model, it's doubtful that it supports 48-bit LBA for large drive support. You can always try connecting the drive first, to see if it's only recognized at 128 GBs, then you'll know for sure.

How to connect my MacBook's internal hard drive as an external drive to another computer?

I got an intel duo iMac, the machine is very good even if it is almost 3 years old. But with the internal hard drive having 320 Gb I am running out of hard drive space. I have looked into changing the internal hard drive but that involves having to send the machine away to have that done. So I was wondering if I could just transfer all the Mac OS X and all the applications and settings within three user accounts to say a 2 TB external hard drive, and boot from that, using cloning software.
Alternatively, is there a way to transfer the iPhoto and iMovie libraries to an external hard drive. That would free up space. I do not know how, if that is possible, although I have managed that with iTunes. My iMac is running Snow Leopard.

USB should be fine for general computer use, but media may add a little too much for the sustained rate that USB2 provides. In a previous career I did a lot of video editing. Firewire was much preferred in that task because of its stability at higher rates. I can see why the SuperDuper! people might suggest it.
When I cloned the wife's iMac, I had replaced the HDD on the MacBook Pro with a USB pocket drive that I've kept the original MacBook's installation mounted on. I've booted directly to that external drive, so you should be okay if you can make the clone across the USB. When I cloned the wife's machine I booted the MacBook Pro with a fresh HDD in Firewire target mode and connected it as an external Firewire 800 drive. Firewire 800 is much faster, but you'll need the cable and everything to be right.
Firewire has a better reputation among people running a lot of media from their drive. I would suggest that you try and get an external drive kit that can support both. I think your iMac supports both firewire 400 AND firewire 800 along with the 3 USB2 ports. I'm guessing based on my wife's 24" imac. The fastest would be the Firewire 800, but that standard is about to be pushed aside in both cases.

I have just changed my internal Hard drive on my MacBook pro. I had recently downloaded some movies on iTunes which I want to put into my iTunes library on my new internal hard drive. I have put my old internal hard drive into an external capsule but when I open the icon of the hard drive from the desktop I can't find my movies.
At the moment I have the new movies downloading again from the cloud but it is literally taking hours for even one movie to load.
When I changed the internal hard drive I restored my info from my old external hard drive which hadn't been backed up in a month and hence does not have my latest movies...
I am concerned that I might go over my internet usage limit (flatmate is refusing to change to unlimited package!!!!) by downloading all the movies again from the cloud never mind how long it is taking...

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
         button.
     2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
     3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
     4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
         to the Destination entry field.
     5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
         the Source entry field.
     6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

OS X can only restore data to the drive where Time Machine backed up files from.
If you want to restore files from the Time Machine backup onto an external drive, your only option is to access to the Time Machine drive manually (open a Finder window and choose your Time Machine drive in the Finder sidebar), navigate through its folders and copy the files you want to the external drive

This has nothing to do with iTunes as iTunes provides no way to move or relocate the backup files.
A search of google or the fourms would reveal ways to create a folder link to relocate the physical location where the files are stored.

I guess the questions should be should I replace it? My iMac's (early 2006 model) internal hard drive is totally dead, but I think if I install a new internal hard drive it will work again. If I get it up and running, I will use it in my classroom. Would this work? Can I put Tiger on an external hard drive and run the machine from there? I had mine open last week and removed the faulty hd (160GB) and put it in a USB drive adapter. I was able to see it on a linux machine so I put it back in my iMac and it worked just fine for about a week. I was able to make a bootable copy on a 160GB usb drive and save all my data. Good thing too since it just died again (clicking a whirring sounds).
Any way... to answer your question. I recall that once you get to see the drive there is a clip and catch type connection where the drive and a metal plate come out as a single unit. It has 2 pins that fit into holes toward the bottom of the case and the catch is on the top. Once you pop the catch you can take the drive out with the plate. The pins screw out of the mounting holes on the drive and so does the metal plate.
Hope this helps. I'll take some pictures of mine when I take it apart again since I have to get a new drive soon myself.
