If you want to keep iTunes 8 I would suggest you buy a refurbished 4th Generation from the online iTunes Store and cancel your order for the 5th Generation.

Yes it is. And I also agree with you regarding Netgear, which I've used extensively outside of work and prefer them over dLink. I'd rate Linksys under both.
If the OP has a pretty simple network I'd still go with the Apple Express as it also gives them AirPlay capabilities.
So I guess my view is as good as yours.

If you open the Maps app where does that say you are located?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

Can the Ipod (5th Gen) be used as an external hard drive where I can manually (without syncing) transfer photos to the drive? My goal is to be able to transfer images from my MacBook (OS 10.4.11) to the Ipod and then erase some of the pics on my MacBook to save space; this will be something I'd doing when I'm traveling--I don't want to be carrying my desktop external hard drive with me.
Naturally I don't want to sync the photos onto the Ipod because I'll be erasing photos to save space. By the way, I use Aperture 2 (with latest firmware) if it helps to know.
Ideally, is there a way I can "see" the Ipod as an external hard drive, so I can move files onto it?

Can I use the Apple Remote with 5th Gen purchased early 2007? IR available?

Have 5th Gen ipod and doesn't react to Apple remote control. Does ipod have infrared capability? Remote states will work on ipods made after 2005. Ipod is in docking station.

Which docking station are you using?
To be used with the Apple Remote, it needs to be one of the two Universal Dock models with a black IR port in the front.

I bought a 5th Gen Touch. I use iTunes 12 on two computers. One computer allows me to drag and drop. The other does not.The one that allows it has problems. Any idea as to why I can drag and drop on one and not the other. Both are authorized.

I first connected the Touch to my desktop and it allows me to drag and drop mp3 files from my old Classic, which is backed up to a directory. Unfortunately, that computer has gone down before I got a chance to fill the Touch. I have the files on another computer but when I connect the Touch to it, it doesn't allow me to drag and drop the files. I have iCloud set on both systems and I have manual management check marked. I'm not understanding why it allows drag and drop on one PC and not the other when they are both set the same way. My question? What do I need to do to be able to drag and drop in iTunes 12? I didn't do anything special on the computer that allows it so I am at a loss.

How can I transfer iBooks from my 4th to 5th gen iPod Touch both running iOS 6, using iTunes 11?

I downloaded the e-book The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham directly onto my old 4th gen iPod Touch from interviewthemasters.com a while back so my Purchases in iTunes 11 still shows no books available to re-download. _None_ of my iBooks content (e.g. bus route PDFs) show up _or_ seem to sync, even though I have Settings that all available apps sync their data _and_ back up into iCloud. I even got to a PC, downloaded iTunes, restored from my 4th gen's backup right onto my 5th gen, and still nothing in the way of my iBooks content, though the first time I pulled it up, I saw them on the shelf for a split second...>:-| What's going on? Why won't it propagate to my new device via iCloud? Nor can I find a way through iTunes 11 to get my content to my new iPod (yes, I have all authorized under the same Apple ID). Please help! All my annotations through iBooks are very valuable to me and I don't want to keep my old iPod and drag it out any time I want to reference my own notes on a book I bought! Am I to believe Apple cares nothing for my personal data unless it's through their store, and extends entertainment industry shenanigans to disable their own apps with _my_ content garnered elsewhere, _presuming_ it "must" be content which can be found on the store?! If so, how do I get control back of my own data? Apple used to say "tough" if you wanted to re-download purchases. Are personal effects like Notes and iBooks still a drop-stitch? To reiterate, the 80/10/10 book was purchased from interviewthemasters.com and worked perfectly as a e-book through iBooks including annotations, hilighting, etc. It never syncs to my machine _or_ iCloud, so I cannot try your recommendation regarding the iTunes Book library, unless you can explain how to get it from my iPod into iTunes. The fact Apple syncs only its store's content and disables syncing for my own independently procured content, particularly as the sole means of communicating with iPods, I find reprehensible and is a perfect example of screwing their customers and hobbling their devices for the supposed privilege of offering entertainment industry content since offered elsewhere far less restrictively and at higher quality (Spotify, anyone?). In any case, if anyone can explain how I can get my own book onto a different iPod, I'd love to hear from you—and no, I'm not anxious to use shady PC utilities, and those well-reviewed don't support anything but music and movies. I do not have access to a Mac, only my iPods and a PC, right now (I'm working on it! Trust me, aside from wholly unnecessary shenanigans, Apple offers a vastly superior product!).

But the decided to take the greek keyboard off as I didn't use it often, so there was no point in having it. But I forgot to change my password, so I can't enter my Ipod. Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup. Yo shld be able to make a backup if you previously syncing to this computer.

Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. I have a 5th gen iPod Touch. I have made playlists in iTunes. I need to get them to the iPod. When I had a Classic, it was automatic. You could drag and drop using iTunes music to the playlist in iTunes and it would automatically sync to the Classic.

I have a 5th gen iPoc Touch. In the past, with the Classic, I could drag and drop from my iTunes music to a Classic playlist through iTunes. Now, the playlist I create in iTunes doesn't show on the Touch. I have maybe 29 GB of music on my Touch. I have already created playlists in iTunes that have substantial amounts of songs in each. How can I get those playlists on the Touch without doing a total sync that wipes the iPod? Is there a way to do it?
As well, I am noticing here that my 5th gen iPod doesn't show as a registered device. How do I register it?
