Can the Airport Express stream audio through my Xbox 360?

I am not asking if my Xbox 360 can CONNECT to my Airport Express. That I have already done.
What I am asking is that my Xbox 360 does not have audio (audio cables seem to not work) and I wonder if I can stream the audio through my speakers wirelessly from my Airport Express. Or does it have to be a IOS device to be able to airplay?

Sorry, but no. The Xbox 360 is not an AirPlay "server" so it cannot stream to an AirPlay "speaker." In this case the speaker is the AirPort Express.

  • Can the airport express be used to stream music and act as network "extender" at the same time?

I have a time capsule as my base station but need to improve network coverage in the other end of the house. Have a new airport express that I use for music streaming. Can this airport express be used for both music streaming and "network extension" at the same time, or do I need to buy another product?

Yes, it can. You can either:
Extend a wireless network. The Express needs to be positioned half way between the TC and the area without network coverage, and can be flakey. This is wireless only.
Use Ethernet/Powerline. This is the preferred option (called a roaming network in Apple terminology). This allows for the Express to be placed wherever you want, as long as it reaches the other end of the house.

  • Airport express & digital audio through usb

Can airport express stream digital audio through usb to use with a usb DAC?

No. Digital optical audio is only available via the AirPort Express' audio port only.

  • Can the Airport Express play music if it is connected to the network by wire only and not by wifi?

    Hi,
I would like to add an Airport Express to the second floor and the wifi range is not strong enough from my wifi router located in the ground floor.
However I have ethernet plugs in all rooms connected by wire to the router. So I was thinking to plug the Airport Express via wire to my ethernet plug.
The goal is to have this Airport Express listed with all the others located in the ground floor that are connected wirelessly in my Airplay speakers.
    Thanks

Yes - Airplay will work whether the Express is wired or wireless - wired is the most reliable way to go - note however that if you wire the Express, you would use the "create a wireless network" option and use the same name and password as your main network

  • Can the Airport Express connect wirelessly to a current modem and be the wireless connection for an external??

I'm confused, I purchased the Airport Express and GDrive external hard drive at the Apple store. I already own a wireless modem that works fine (AT&T).  I want to extend the wireless signal to the downstairs where the office is and keep the Airport Express in the office (connected wirelessly to the modem upstairs) plugged into the new GDrive to make that wireless. I want the G Drive in the safe location of the office and that was the sole reason I purchased the Airport Express.  Is it possible??

As I said, the USB port on the AirPort Express will not support a hard drive. It will only support compatible printers.
If you want to connect a hard drive, you will need an AirPort Extreme.....not an AirPort Express. See this Apple comparison chart to confirm.  Might be a good idea to print it out and take it to the "genius" types.
Compare Apple Wi-Fi base stations          AirPort Express    AirPort Extreme    Time Capsule
But, even if you have an AirPort Extreme the chances that it would "extend" the wireless signal from an ATT router are about zero.

  • Can the airport express range be limited

I am getting ready to go off to college, and I know I'm going to get a power book. I want to get an airport express to use in my dorm because the school doesn't have wireless internet. However, wireless routers are not allowed on campus because of security issues. I know about mac filtering, and I'm definitely going to use it. What I really want to know is, can the signal strength of an airport express base station be turned down so the signal won't reach too far past my dorm room. I know most people are trying to extend the range, but I need exactly the opposite. thanks-james

You can lower the transmitter power of the AirPort Extreme and Express base stations, which effectively lowers the range. The following article tells you how:

  • Can the Airport Express be used as a wireless bridge?

I just purchased an Xbox 360 and I wanted to be able to play games online. I have an aiport extreme connected to my dsl box in my office, while the Xbox is in my room. Any suggestions?

An Express can be used as a Wireless to Ethernet bridge providing it is used with another Airport Extreme/Express. You set-up WDS (Wireless Distribution System) between the two Airports. The console can then be connected to the Ethernet port and be on the network as if it were directly connected.

    Alan,
Please provide more information.  (Make/model of the modem and airport express, Mac OS version, etc.)
Most likely your modem is the source of your internet connect and you sound like you are trying to extend your network through the airport express (which is a router).
I don't know what a "DCL modem" is.   Perhaps you meant "DSL".
Most internet modems are either a "Cable Modem" or a "DSL Modem".
Time Warner (TMC) and Comcast typically provide cable modems, which use a coaxial (round) cable.
"DSL Modems" are used with AT&T and they are connected to your telephone wires.
Both of these types of modems usually includes a router built-in, some include a wireless router, too.
Either way, I don't know of any way to connect an Airport base station to a router wirelessly.
That would be called a "bridge" in networking terms and while it may be possible, it is not common.
Most routers use a direct ethernet cable connection, because the data flows much faster than wirelessly.
Normally, one connects to their airport base station with an ethernet cable from the primary home/office computer.
It can be accessed wirelessly, but only if you enable that option in the Airport utility (not the default).
Again, connecting or bridging one router to another router is not a common method.

  • Using the airport express

I am interested in streaming my iTunes music to my stereo. The airport express is ofcourse perfect for this but I have a few questions before I spend the money on this. I want to make sure I can do this.
I have an iMac up in my bedroom connected to a netgear wireless router. It is however connected using an ethernet cable and not wirelessly. I am using the wireless for my iBook downstairs in my kitchen. I don't want to extend the range of my network at all and I know I can't because my router dosen't support WDS. If my iMac is connected by cat 5, can I still stream music to the airport express on a seperate wireless network? Do I need to be on the same network as the airport express exclusively? I want to only use the airport express only for sending music to my stereo downstairs in my living room. Can the airport express be a device on my existing network??? I will not be using it for printer sharing or internet connection. Can this be done????
    Thanks for your help!!!

I found the answer in the FAQ on the support page. I can set it to join the network in client mode. I went out and bought one and it connected in a snap and I am playing music all over my house!

  • Does the Airport express base station connect to any modem?

ive got the apple tv in the lounge room where there is poor wi-fi reception and am wondering wether i should get the airport express or get a new modem.  what can the airport express do that the extreme cant, and can the express connect to any modem?  I have a NETGEAR modem.

By modem, do you mean just a dumb modem or modem router?
If you mean the modem, yes.
If you mean a modem router, yes, but only as an access point, not as a router (unless the Netgear supports modem mode).

  • Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers

Does airport express stream directly to wireless speakers or does it need to be connected through an audio cable to an amplifier before the speakers?

I got an additional question bout this topic:
is it possible to use both at the same time? in my case cable-connected speakers in the living-room and an Airplay-speaker in the bathroom and/or kitchen?
so I select the Airport Express as Airplay-Output on my iPad and from there it's shared via cable AND wireless? this would solve the problem of being able to only select ONE Airplay-Output on my iPad at the same time...

How many airport express can I add to my network for the purpose of using the airport express to send audio signal to different rooms in the house? I'm interested I'm running about six different zones.
What I'm looking to do is to have self powered in ceiling speakers in every room in my house with out having to run wires to every room to carry the audio signal. I would like to use the airport express to do the job of carting the audio signal.
Here's my set up now I have an airport extreme and one airport express that I use to carry audio to one room.

FWIW. I have used up to four AirPort Express Base Stations (AX) for streaming sucessfully in pretty much the way you have described. I didn't have a need to try more so I can't attest that more would or would not work.

  • While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?

While using the airport express can I listen to music streaming from the Internet?

The music must be in your iTunes library.
Or, you can try to add a special application like Airfoil that may allow you to stream any audio signal on your computer to the AirPort Express. It might work.

  • How can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

how can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop.  And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure  what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

If anyone can help i would be hugely grateful, I'm literally pulling my hair out.
I bought the Airport express so i could surf the web and wireless play music through my stereo simultaneously. Can I do this? I've managed to play music wirelessly from my macbook to the express/stereo, however i cant surf the web because i can only presume i haven't set up the express to join my sky network.  So therefore the only way to surf the web at the moment is swap wireless devices from express back to my current sky network, then the airplay stops obviously.
I've tried to join the express to my sky network/netgear router, at face value it looks simple.  The sky network name automatically comes up and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using, then type in the password which i presume is the network key number on the back of the netgear router?  However its not connecting??  I am doing something wrong?
Can someone please give me some guidence on how to connect express to my current network?

and then all i have to do is select the correct wireless security which i haven't got a clue which one my sky/netgear router is using
Suggest that you ask Sky what type of wireless security that is used on the devices that they provide.
Once you have that information, you can choose the correct matching setting when you configure the AirPort Express to "join" the Sky wireless network.
The "password" would be the normal phrase that you use to connect to your wireless network at the present time.
