Can the Apple watch totally replace my iPhone?

Can Apple watch totally replace my iPhone?

No, it can't. The Apple Watch is an extension the iPhone.
You need an iPhone to set up the Apple Watch. Without the iPhone this is what you can do with an Apple Watch once it's set up:
Use Apple Watch without its paired iPhone
Although you need an iPhone to do most things with Apple Watch, you can still do several things with Apple Watch without having an iPhone in range.
Play music from a synced playlist on Apple Watch
Use the watch, alarms, timers, and the stopwatch
Keep track of your activity (stand, move, exercise) with the Activity app
Track workouts

  • Can the apple watch track the distance of a run without iPhone pairing.

I have been searching the net to establish if the apple watch can track distance without iPhone pairing. I have an older iPod nano which I use to measure distance indoors i.e on a treadmill, hopefully the apple watch could do the same. I believe that the iphone may be needed to track the route of the run, however I can't find any content about tracking distance without the iPhone.

    Hi
Thanks Frank, however, I was hoping for something about the accelerometer as I thought the watch would be pretty pointless for runners who don't always want to carry their iPhone with them, especially the iPhone 6 plus. Furthermore, if people want to track activity in indoor environments such as tennis courts or squash courts. I did find the below which helps.
MacDailyNews Note: Apple Watch will not have GPS, but it has an on-board accelerometer, so it’ll be able track your steps, distance, and pace. Therefore, even without iPhone, you’ll know how far you’ve gone, you just won’t know where you’ve gone. If you want a map of your route, you’ll need to strap the iPhone to your arm or carry it in your hand as usual. For avid runners who also **** after the mammoth iPhone 6 Plus (6.22 inches (158.1 mm) x 3.06 inches (77.8 mm) x 0.28 inch (7.1 mm) at 6.07 ounces (172 grams), this will create quite the conundrum.
Apologies, this is the first thing I have posted on the support communities, should this post be somewhere other than the developer forum?

  • Can the Apple Watch Bluetooth pair with a car

Just curious; can the watch be paired to a car's Bluetooth?

There seems to be conflicts with the Apple Watch, iPhone6 Bluetooth and car connectivity.  The iPhone is the hub that Bluetooth goes through for both the watch and the car, the watch itself is not pairing to the car.  I have an iPhone 6 Plus that has no problem connecting to my Toyota RAV4 EV audio and phone system via Bluetooth.  I recently paired an Apple Watch to the phone, and all was well until the next time I got into my car.  The automobile Bluetooth would no longer automatically pair with the phone, and when I forced a connection, the result was that my watch would no longer receive calls.  I left it alone, and a few days later I realized that my watch had ceased other operations as well: it would no longer charge with the provided dock, and sending taps, heartbeats and on-watch texts immediately failed.  Ultimately, I had to remove the car Bluetooth connection from my iPhone and reset the watch to "out of the box" settings before it became functional again.  At this point I cannot connect the iPhone to the car via Bluetooth without impacting the watch.  Apple Watch devs: software fix, please!

  • Can I remove the apple watch app from my iphone?

With all the apps that Apple requires to be downloaded, it leaves little room for the apps I want or pictures or music.  Is there a way to delete this app or other apps I don't want/use that Apple puts on there?

It is a little different than the PC "bloatware" The Apple provided apps go back to the first iPhone and prior to Apple allowing third party apps. At that time the smartphones available (Blackberry, Treo) all included Mail, a browser, weather, and stocks apps so Apple did too. Apple also included the iTunes Store and Music apps since they operated a music store. Since then they have continued to offer these apps and have added Newsstand (really a folder), Passport ( a new feature that has to be tied to the OS due to sandboxing restrictions,a Clock, and Apple Watch. Stocks is included since the Blackberry was primarily used by businesses and Apple wanted to be able to include this market.
Once Apple opened up to 3rd party apps they could have dropped some of the included apps but they really don't take a lot of space and I would guess they are widely used. I know I use the included Stocks and Weather, they meet my simple needs and I have no reason to download another and learn it. Oddly if you read the iPad community when it was first released one of the biggest complaints (and it still pops up) is not included clock (now not applicable), weather and calculator apps. You just can't win.

  • Can The Apple Authorized Service Providers repair iPhone an ipad hardware directly?

It's not clear if AASP can directly operate on iPhone and ipad hardware or they simply change broken devices with refurbished ones (like Retail stores).
    Thank you

    And thank you too, bubbaglia.
One small additional note.   It is well known that refurbished items are every bit as good as new ones and often carry a full warranty.

If you go to google.com and type in "what time is it in <name of city>?",  you can find out what time it is in any city in the world.
You can also ask Siri the same question.
Which, oddly, never occurred to me.

  • Is the apple watch compatible with iPod touch

I Know the apple watch is compatible with iPhone but what about iPod touch? Would it work with Bluetooth?

I do know that it will work with the iPhone 5 and later, and I doubt that Apple wouldn't make the Apple Watch compatible with the iPod Touch. The fact that the Apple Watch will be able to make calls concerns me. You can not make calls on the iPod Touch with any built-in app, so that might make the iPod Touch excluded from being compatible with the Apple Watch. I am almost one hundred percent sure that IF the Apple Watch is compatible with the iPod Touch it will only be compatible with the 5th generation.

  • Can i set up the apple watch without an iphone

Im looking to buy an apple watch but i dont have an iphone. I was wondering if i can set up my apple watch and use the basic features such as the watch face without it

You must have an iPhone to use the apple watch, or at least set it up. After the setup, without the iPhone it can only do limited features

  • How do I get rid of the Apple Watch ad that's just appeared as an app icon on my iPhone 6 Plus?

Ad for Apple Watch has just appeared on my iPhone 6 Plus (iOS 8.3)--how do I get rid of it? Holding the button down to get jiggly app icons doesn't help--it doesn't have a Delete "x"; neither does it appear as an app in settings. I'm a bit unhappy about this appearing unbidden, out of the blue. If I want ads/demos, I'll download them. No call for pushing them onto my phone.

If I want ads/demos, I'll download them. No call for pushing them onto my phone.
It's not an ad/demo.  It's the app needed to use the Apple Watch with your iphone.  Like all apps that are part of the iOS, it can't be deleted.

  • Can you use apple watch without pairing to iphone?

can you use apple watch without pairing to iphone?

Essentially no.  Your watch has to connect to an iphone to be of any use.
Once you do pair your watch and phone and you are in a known wifi area, you can turn off Bluetooth and your watch SHOULD connect directly with wifi. I've found it doesn't always connect.
As of right now my bluetooth on the phone is OFF and I'm on wifi and can get notifications, play games, imessages, check instagram, etc etc.

  • Will apple fix or replace my iphone 4 as the lock button is stuck and its a minor hardware issue ? Also if it was to be a replacement would it be a newer model as apple do not stock the 4 anymore ?

Will apple fix or replace my iphone 4 as the lock button is stuck and its a minor hardware issue ? Also if it was to be a replacement would it be a newer model as apple do not stock the 4 anymore ?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5s. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.
If none of the above work for you, then:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
