Can the battery in my "dead" IPOD 2GB be replaced?

I have a 5 year old (?) 2GB IPOD I received as a gift.  It has been in a drawer for some time and now seems "dead". Connecting it to power will being up a menu, but the battery doe not retain enough charge to keep a display working once the power is disconnected.  Can I have the battery replaced, or should a device this old be "tossed"?

There is no 2GB iPod Classic, you may get better Response from the iPod Nano Community, but Apple charge US$49 for replacing the iPod Shuffle battery, if yours is an iPod shuffle.

that might be a reason. Don't worry it will turn on after some time, try connecting it to your computer or charger and see if it helps!!...

  • My phone won't charge and the battery is now dead, it is not the charger, what can I do?, My phone won't charge and the battery is now dead, it is not the charger, what can I do?

MY iphone4 won't charge and the battery is now dead. It is not the charger, as I have two and they both charge my iPad. How can I fix my phone??

This sounds like it could be something to do with the pin connector in the problematic phone - or something internally at least.
I'm no expert but I do know that you should seek help from official Apple store. Do not be tempted to open this up yourself as it could invalidate any warranty you might have.
My advice is to take it to your nearest Apple shop. They can look at this and replace if within warranty?

    Hi tecknik!
I'm so sorry for any trouble with calls and messages! I know how important it is to have a properly working phone. Which iPhone do you have? Please reset the network settings: settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Once that is done, please monitor the device and see if that corrects the issue. What is your zip code?
I'm anxioud to get to the bottom of this for you!

Try holding down the sleep and home buttons for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple it's rebooting and just let it do its thing.

Some  say yes; some say no. I am confused.
    Could someone solve my puzzle?

The USB power adapter ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB352LL/C?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=MTM3NDk1MjI) is compatible with ipod and iphone, but not ipad. The ipad adapter needs a little extra power and is only compatible with the iphone 4 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC359LL/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjA&mco=MjM2NDExMzk)

Try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

Apple does service batterys and you do not need to replace the entire device.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen, 5 years old, has short battery life. Can the battery be replaced? If not, does apple have a replacement program? how much?

    Details:
5 year old 2nd Gen Ipod nano only works for an hour the most. Battery may be approaching end of life.
Can this still be replaced? if not, what are my options? Does apple have a replacement program?

Just would like to share with you, my experience with a friend's Nano with a smiliar problem
The battery level could be too low to boot up the OS of the iPod, which even may corrupted (if you see a folder icon).
The best way to fix it, is to connect it with different device other than your PC as it is likely not get charge at all, e.g.
    1. car charger
    2. ac charger
    3. ipod speaker dock system
    4. using firewire cable
    5. with a Mac computer
The key is to charge the battery level up to the minimum for you to put your Nano into disk mode

once you see the "tick" mark, connect it with a computer, and try to do a Restore for your iPod. In case you still do not manage to get your iPod to be recognized by a PC, I am afraid you have to connect it with a Mac, very likely it will allow you to do a Restore as I did last night

  • My Ipod plug into stereo, some how the stereo not work and burn the battery, its make my ipod can't turn on at all, if I need to repair it how much its cost, do you think?

Hi, I put my Ipod into the stereo, some how the power of the stereo burned out & make my ipod not work anymore.  If I plug my ipod into computer its not on and the battery feel very hot, so if I send it out to fix, how much do you think its cost?  And how do I check online to see what generation I was bought?  I bought it online with Apple.  Thanks.
    Tran Thai.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
