Can the DVD be disabled? I'm fed up of the noise each time I open the lid.

One thing really annoys me though
I have searched for the answer to this on the forums but nobody has come with an answer to this.
I hate the way the SuperDrive motor clunks each time the lid is opened and the MacBook awakes from its sleep. The same noise that occurs when the MacBook is switched on.
It is VERY annoying to me and would love to be able to disable it if possible. (it is hardly used anyway)
Can it be disabled? Is there a 'BIOS' that I can get into.?
A config file that controls what is checked from sleep maybe?
Please help, it is driving me mad..!

okay, where or how else can you get music files on and off your ipod? cause there has got to be a better way to do this? i already subcribe to pay sites for my downloads and i am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to import files into folders or playlists on itunes to get them on my kids nanos and my shuffle. i don't want to have to buy songs from the itunes store at 99 cents apiece when i have a yearly subscribtion already with another service, not to mention a large library of files already on my hard drive. you should not be limited to using strictly apple downloads. i mean for what we are paying for the players themselves compared to other mp3 players they should be compatible with some other software for transferring songs. am i off base here??

From the Mail menu bar, select
Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.

Is this the Firefox branded Google page? If it is, Firefox can store multiple home pages and you may have 2 home pages set. Follow the instructions to set a single home page in this link - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page

If the iphone is locked to Orange in Israel then only Orange in Israel can authorise Apple to release the lock .No one else

I have a similar problem. But my iPad shows the connect iTunes screen and gives error 2001 when I try to restore it.
My iPad's battery was fine but I didn't use it for like 2 weeks. It's battery would've discharged and it turned off. When I tried to charge through wall socket, it got into the restart loop where it would show apple logo and turn off. So I did the simultaneous holding of Home and Sleep buttons for 10 seconds or more. It started showing connect to iTunes.
When I try to restore, the iTunes does the usual "extracting file" or something and go upto preparing for restore. But the iPad screen turns off from "connect to iTunes" and iTunes gives the error 2001, and the screen is back to connect to iTunes.
Also, if I don't plug in, the iPad seems dead, doesn't wake up or anything.

I get a message asking me if I want to change my default search engine to Yahoo! Search each time I open Firefox. How do I disable this annoying message?

For the past few days, each time I open Firefox on my home computer, a popup message is briefly displayed: "Your browser's default search engine is not set to Yahoo! Search. This can be Sync or a web page that is (re)opened automatically and you have saved a name & password for this website.
You didn't confirm whether you are using Sync or not, so I don't know which of the two would apply.

This is part of Lion's Resume feature (I assume you are on Lion).
A couple of things you can do: System Preferences>General and deselect 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps'.
Also when you shutdown or restart make sure the following is unticked:

iMovie 09 freezes each time I open the project I'm working on. It has worked perfectly fine the past week, but now it won't load different aspects of the screen. For example, when I role over the screen the video will play in the small play back screen, but I can't actually see the film strip or make any changes. Any suggestions? I need to finish this video for work - would love any help!

Try trashing iMovie's preference file. See this User Tip by AppleMan1958:

The Tip relates to iMovie '11. For iMovie '09 the preference file is named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist" and will be found in your Home folder Library/Preferences (NOT the Library folder at the top level in Macintosh HD).

Foxfire was working fine until I got a message that updates were ready. After the install each time I open foxfire I see a very brief software install box and then I'm taken to the foxfire welcome screen.

If you see that data in the location bar then you may have an extension interfering.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
