Can the FCS install disks be made into disk images?

I can't remember if these were copy protected. I no longer have a disk player/burner, but I can get to one. Can I make disk images from the discs and use them to install the applications? Anyone done this? The apps seem to get FUBARed periodically and need to be reinstalled.
Thanks.

Yes, they can:
I keep them on a 50gb blu-ray disc.

That's super odd. It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • How can I convert the ringtone (m4r file) I made into an mp3 file on itunes?

How can I convert the ringtone (m4r file) that I made into an mp3 file on iTunes? I want to put it on a CD, but I can't figure out how to convert it. I didn't buy it, I made it by converting a YouTube video into an mp3 (I wanted to get the little song in the video for a ringtone.) I'm not sure what to do.

    Hello ed2345,
Thanks for the help, but this is not the problem.
It's hard to describe the problem, but I'll try it again, this time with pictures.
I was left with the following folders in the iTunes Downloads folder.
    http://www.picfront.org/d/7yb3
These TMP Folders have a download.m4a and a Info.plist file.
After moving the audio files in iTunes a bit I get this.
    http://www.picfront.org/d/7yb2
As you can see no other Information for the download.m4a than the length.
That's how the .m4p file looks like
    http://www.picfront.org/d/7yb1
And this is how the same .m4a file currently looks
    http://www.picfront.org/d/7yb0
Like I said, I could edit all these download.m4a files by myself but that would leave some information out.
Note: Sorry, I hope the links do not spam you with annoying ads. I don't get any but I was told that there can be some annoying one.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen is stuck on the Apple Logo, won't go into disk mode and won't connect to computer.

My iPod Nano 5th Generation won't turn on; I've held down "Menu" and the center button which makes the Apple logo come up, then it just stays on that. I've followed steps I've seen on here trying to get it into disk mode by holding down the "Play/Pause" button and the center button immediately after the Apple Logo appears but it doesn't respond to that at all. I've charged it and upgraded my iTunes but nothing seems to do anything to it. When I plug it into my computer there is nothing to say it's plugged in on iTunes or My computer or anything. It's driving me crazy and I'm hoping there's a way I can fix it without it having to be sent off.
    Any advice would be cracking!
    Thanks,

  • HT4993 Can the new iphone 4S be made to work with Boost mobile?

However, when I tried to use the analog (white/red) audio outputs, connected Apple TV to my 30 year old Kenwood integrated amp, the sound was extremely distorted and LOUD.
What input type/level are you using. Many old amps/pre-amps have specific device load/level inputs. It may be possible to use special level/load matching cables or an impedance/level matching box between the TV output and amp/preamp inputs.
Is there any adjustment that can be made to the analog output from apple TV? or do I now have an excuse to go out and buy new audio equipment?
Some very, very old (usually "tube" based) amps/preams may have input level adjustments. I personally would probably use it as an excuse to shop for a new digital AV amp/receiver.

  • Viewing disk partitions made using Disk Utility in Windows

So, I took a USB external hard drive and partitioned it into two volumes using Disk Utility. I made sure to format them in MS-DOS format so they are FAT16 and can be recognized by Windows. I then took the hard drive and plugged it into my Windows computer. The first partition showed up just fine in my F: drive, but I'm not sure where the second partition is. When I plug it into my Mac, both volumes appear on my Desktop, but only the first one shows up in the Computer folder of my Windows computer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

What does it look like in Windows Disk Management?
Click Start (if you're on XP then click run) and type "diskmgmt.msc" without the quotes (on XP click OK, anything after XP click on the program), then in the bottom window (where it says Disk 0 Basic disk etc) find your external drive, what do the partitions look like?
It might be that windows isn't mounting that partition for some reason.

  • Can anyone help me cut a word into an image?

I believe it is called merge?? I am new to illustrator and am working on learning new tricks,  I have come to a road block here.
    Here is a set up:
I have font image with a tail connected to the font,  Inside the tail i have another font that i want to weld, merge or whatever you call it so that when i remove the letters it is for say burnt into the tail so when i print it there will be no color.  ( I am screen printing t shirts)    see image for more details    basicly I want to screen print the image below in black, and keep the cafe hollow so it will take on the color of the shirt.
    Thank you in advanced

In the past people using Illustrator for screen printing have indicated that leaving it white did not work for them.
Really? Where? When? Show an example of this.
How may times has this very issue [white set to overprint] showed up on this form? 100? 200? 300?
    Oh, puh-leeze.
So what? How many times has a question revealed that the one asking doesn't understand the even more basic principle (that white doesn't print), as evident in this thread, and which Steve correctly explained? That's  the primary misconception at issue here.
You, on the other hand, serve to reinforce the misconception that the white text must actually be a hole in the black by guiding bsward774 through a bunch of completely unnecessary steps.
This thread has nothing whatsoever to do with accidently setting white to overprint. You simply trotted that out in a transparent attempt to defend your own reply, thereby obfuscating the whole subject-- and then lit into Steve with your typical personal insults. Who do you really think you're fooling here, Wade?
And I write it again they may need to use the cut out version as they call it for other application in the future they might as well not have to think about it again.
Then by your own convoluted "logic" you yourself have committed just as egreggious a travesty by failing to explain to the "poor beginner" the risks inherent in unnecessary use of transparency masks (what you call the "simplest way"): accidental rasterization.
It is a better way when screen printing.
    Okay. How so? Explain yourself.
The "simplest way" as you put it, is to simply leave the white text alone, as Steve correctly and appropriately explained.

  • Can you manually install a JAR file into webstart?

    Hello there,
We are currently using WebStart for our Applet. The Jar file is fairly large in size, so we figured this would save our customers some time when it comes to downloading the applet. This works very well for 95% of our customers. However, there are a few that have very slow connections and they insist that they can not download the applet.
Rather than argue with the customer, "The customer is always right???", we figured it may be easier to provide some of them with the Jar file on disk and have an install script run to manually set up webstart with the Jar file. Is this possible? How can we do this? I originally thought that we could do this manually, but I see that there is a great deal more involved in the webstart cache directory than simply a Jar file. Has anyone ever tried this?
    Thank You
    Dan

    Hi,
We ran into something similar but we are using an application not an applet but I believe it is the same solution. We emailed a self extracting zip file to clients that could not download our jar file. We not only zipped up the jar file but our apps cache folder structure. This worked fine. There is a differenct caching location with the new Java Web Start so you need to be careful. I don't know if it will work for you but take a look at :

  • Can the File.browseForDirectory dialog be made modal?

This dialog is non-modal, inconsistent with the modal dialog launched with File.browseForOpenMultiple. Our application presents both options, the ability to select files (browseForOpenMultiple) and a folder (browseForDirectory). The non-modality of the directory choice dialog presents a number of problems:
First, while the directory browser dialog is displayed, it's possible to reselect file/folder browse options to launch a second dialog. This results in an exception.
Second, our app can simulate a modal directory browser dialog by disabling the app window (addresses the first problem), but then the directory browser dialog can be lost behind another window, presenting the user with a mysteriously unresponsive application.
Is it possible to make the browseForDirectory dialog modal?

I don't know if you can turn the dialog off, but the fact that it is happening at all is flagging that something bad happened in the previous build. The only time the recovery dialog comes up is if LV crashes and leaves VIs is an uncertain state.

  • Can the WinOnx install fifa14 setup exe and can i play it on my mac?

    ??

An exe file is an executable for Windows. It will not run on the Mac OS. You do have the option to install Windows on your computer using BootCamp and it would then install. Then the question would become does the hardware meet the game's minimum requirements. If it requires an Nvidia or AMD GPU the answer would be no. And I expect that it does require more than Intel's integrated video.

  • My plan for new FCS install with questions

End-of-fiscal-year budgetary windfall enables a giant leap from a G4 running FCP 4.5 to a spankin' new 8-Core machine for FCS2. (Hello Motion!).
I'd like to identify any "gotchas" in a new FCS install before I jump into it. Your advice and comments from personal experience are appreciated.
Here's my plan, based on what I've read here, and a couple of questions:
    1. Update to latest available OS from whatever version is on the machine.
    2. Run installer from disks - repair permissions.
    3. Update FCS and Quicktime, if any updates are available - repair permissions.
    4. Connect to old machine via Firewire target mode - transfer project files, plug ins, and any universal applications that might be useful.
    5. Copy media from my old, external scratch drive to the internal eSata drive I plan to use as the new scratch - seems like a good time to repair permissions once more.
    6. Launch FCP, set up preferences and drives, open an old project and reconnect media.
I'm starting with existing DV media and timelines, but part of our studio upgrade includes new Sony EX-1 cameras, so we'll soon be working with XDCam files. I haven't decided which quality level yet.
Do the new mixed-format timelines work as advertised? Lots of legacy material to deal with.
Is there any advantage in capturing XDCam and DV footage to separate drives?
I'd like to repurpose my old external drive for automatic back-ups. Is the Time machine working well for everybody?
That's enough to wrap my brain around right now. Thanks in advance from a long-time lurker. Always great discussions here.
    Rob A.

    Rob,
Congratulations on the new toy! You gotta love those year end surpluses.
FWIW, I think that you are on the right track. I would second the other response that said to only migrate project files. Everything else needs to be installed, especially since you are going from PowerPC to Intel.
    internal eSata drive
This just made me laugh, it's kind of like having a "Hot" water heater. Anyway, the "e" in "eSATA" stands for "external" so having an internal external drive would just be strange.
Do the new mixed-format timelines work as advertised?
This is one of the most misunderstood features about FCS2. You have always been able to mix media on a timeline, and then render. The trick was that you had to choose what kind of timeline you were going to mix your media in. You remember on the old version you would open up a new project, bring in your media only to realize that you forgot to change the easy setup to the new media type. So now you have to delete "Sequence 1", change the easy setup, open a new sequence and everything was good. In the new version you open up a project, get your media, drop it on the timeline and FCP says, "hey, that media is different from your sequence settings, would you like me to change them for you?" Then you can go ahead an d mix media, and render.
Moral of this story, choose your sequence settings according to what the majority of your media in the sequence will be because you will have to render anything that doesn't match.
Is there any advantage in capturing XDCam and DV footage to separate drives?
    No.
    Hope this helps,
    K

  • Can't selectively install one app from fcs2

Why can't I just reinstall Motion? I've deleted the app & the .pkg files. All the other apps are selected & greyed out when I try to just install Motion. The message I get states that there is an older version of FCS (or whatever) installed...it is actually a newer version. Is it possible to just install one app under these conditions?
    Thanks,
    Mike McPhail

Ahhh! Got it. I must log in as Admin and run Pacifist on the FCS Install disk. I found the Motion app there & it would let me install it as Admin. Just entering the admin password in my user account didn't work.
    Thanks everyone!

  • Ipod is dead, only resets and goes into disk mode

I own a 4g ipod 20gb. It had been working fine. A week ago, I put it to sleep, and when it woke up it kerp flashing the broken folder icon and then reseting. I cound not mount it. By pressing the foreward button, I would get into disk mode.
Connecting to a computer got it to say
"disk mode-do not disconnect" but it would not mount/ appear in disk utility. Somehow, I got it to finally work and formatted and reset the firmware on a friends windows comp. It worked fine once, then the same thing happened. After taking it off my mac, it will say "ok to disconnect" and freezes there
    anyone have a sugestion?
ps...I got it replaced a month ago in warrenty, but now that is up. Can I still send it back (warranty on the replacement?) thanx

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“Partition Magic”.
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
