If I find the 32 GB hard drive is too small for my application, Can it be upgraded or am I stuck with the one I bought?

Install more RAM in the computer; the Mac needs to have at least 2GB of RAM and should have 4GB or more first.

I've already got external drives but I take my mini back and forth to work and don't want to carry those drives with me.
I'm not interested in buying a laptop. My mini works great so why waste $1,000 or more when I can buy a 1 to 3 TB hdd for under $300 and have exactly what I want. My late 2009 Mac Mini with a large hdd.
I went to Crucial's website and they can't tell me what drives fit my Mac Mini. That's where I got my ram (8GB). I'm ONLY interested in name brand quality HDDs.

The limiting factor in your 2009 mini is the max 9.5mm drive thickness.
One of the largest capacity 2.5" drives that meets this criteria is the HGST (formerly Hitachi) at 1.5GB
Any reputable SATA HDD you can find that is not thicker then this 9.5mm will work.

MBP hard drive beeps after Snow Leopard Upgrade, just like the unibody

After upgrading my MBP to Snow, it is now beeping from the hard drive every 10-15 seconds, just like the videos that were posted of unibody MBPs beeping in 10.5.8 (which Apple released a firmware update for).

Can a hard drive be faulty without reporting any issues?

Hi all, advice really most appreciated Hope this isn't too waffley for you all...
I have a 24" intel iMac (Core 2 Dual, white version, stock 320Gb HDD). It is out of warranty.
Over the last few weeks it has been getting VERY slow before finally becoming unusable. This appears to be when any hard drive access is required. Finder windows were taking literally minutes to appear (with spinning beach ball).
I did all the usual stuff such as repairing permissions, verified drive and ran a full Onyx cleanup. This all made no difference. I ran a Leopard archive-and-install. This took 10 hours! I remember the original Leopard install taking 30 minutes so somethings not right here. No improvement. I formatted the drive using 'write zeros' - which estimated 3 days to complete, but I stopped it after 12hrs.
I did a time machine restore to an external firewire drive, which I have now been running from for over a week, without a single issue. All is back to normal speed. (I'm surprised at just how fast it runs from an external firewire 800 drive, as I expected to notice a difference - I don't)
So, I now have a blank internal drive to test:
I ran disk utility repair disk. All OK.
I ran Disk Warrior. All OK.
I ran Techtool Pro 4 full hardware tests including disk surface scan. All reported OK including hard drive controller.
I ran Drive Genius surface scan - zero bad blocks.
So, do I have a failing hard drive or not????
I have read about similar symptoms here for a failing iMac drive but usually one of the hardware tests reports bad sectors. I have no such results, or any other symptoms.
Advice most welcome.

Try the Apple Hardware Test on your Install Disk, it might find a funky Serial ATA connection or problem with the Serial ATA bus?

Sense all the other test say the HD is OK, you might try restoring the Internal HD from your working External HD?
1. While booted from and running your External HD open Disk Utility.
2. Select the Internal HD's icon on the sidebar, then click the Restore tab
3. Now drag the External HD's icon into the Source box, the Internal HD's icon into the Destination box and click Restore.

I can also boot and run normally from a clone on my FireWire 400 External HD without noticing much of a difference.

Can't find Toshiba portable external hard drive in finder after I upgraded to Mavericks

Anyone know how I can be able to see my external hard drive? I've been using it before and was able to see it until I upgraded my OS to Mavericks....Now, I cannot find it in the finder but I can see it in the disk utility however, my mac does not allow me to do anything on it...I don't want to reformat coz I have important files in my hard drive...PLEASE HELP! Yup. Still not there...only my Mac HD came out...my WD external HD can be detected coz it's the one I'm using for time machine back-up but my Toshiba external HD is still not present/ mounted in finder and I still cannot choose it in disk utility even if it is listed there...

you’ll need a T6 Torx screwdriver to remove the four screws that are in the hard drives, if you ever decide to upgrade your internal hard drive. (If you’re just doing a straight swap between the two MacBook Pros, though, you can just leave each drive’s Torx screws as they are.)

I really need help. Hubby was carrying out some diagnostics test on his macbook and our 2 yr old daughter pressed some buttons and shut the lid. Hubby now cannot get it to work. No, there should be another volume there... which would be your internal HD.
From this point there isn't to much you can do, because the disk utility should definatly pick up your internal.
Ok, I don't know if this will work either, but when you turn your computer on, hold the option key, technically two things should show up, your start-up DVD, and your internal HD. If neither show up, go to an apple store, or even just call apple support.
Another thing they'll get you to do is reset your Logic board. To do this you turn off your computer, unplug it, take out the battery, and hold the power button for 10 seconds... then plug it back in and try again...

Can Slave Hard Drive Become Master HD?

One of my PowerPC Dual 1 GHz G4 (QuickSilver 2002) will not boot up. This non-functioning G4 contains the following internal drives:
1. One (1) 80 GB ATA Master Hard Drive,
2. One (1) 80 GB ATA Slave Hard Drive,
3. One (1) 80 GB SCSI Slave.
I cannot get the Master Hard Drive to boot up.
Is it possible to convert the ATA Slave Hard Drive to an ATA Master Hard Drive? And if so, what is the proper procedure for this convertion?

Hello, there are two ways, normally one would expect a QS2002 to use CS, Cablle Select jumpers on both drives, & assuming a CS IDE cable, Master & Slave are set by position on the cable... <aster on the end, Slave in the middle, but bsome combos of drives may not resond as widhed, moreo if Master & Slave Jumpers are used, while still other Drives may have Jumpers for Single, Master wirh Slave, etc.
SCSI won't have a Slave or Master, nor even a CS Jumper, possibly SCSI ID Jupers & LUN Jumpers.

Time Machine - Can 2 Hard Drives be used as 1?

I have two external hard drives (both are 320 GB) and connect via USB 2.0. I was wondering if I could set them up so that my Mac would treat them as one hard drive when they are both connected. My mac has a larger 750 GB hard drive and I would like to combine the two 320 GB externals (for 640 GB) to use them for my time machine back up. Is this possible to do?

It is Recommended that Time Machine has its Own (single) Drive that is at least Twice the size of the Drive(s) it is intending to Backup.

Memory Usage And Hard Drive Activity Increase After Latest Upgrade

I have upgraded to Firefox 3.6.15 and latest Adobe Flash Player. Then i noticed that plugin-container started to take a lot of memory as much as Firefox itself totaling around 600Mb. Then i see hard drive activity intermittently slowing down my laptop and making it unresponsive for a short period of time. I have 50 tabs open. I have disabled Flash and since then plugin-container takes very little memory and i don't see consistent hard drive activity.
I need Flash and i don't want to disable it. Is there a solution to this?

I am seeking solutions for same problem. When playing simple online games such as solitaire my memory usage for the plug in container is 300-600 mb while FireFox may only be 80-120 (with several windows or tabs open of mostly text pages). If I disable Adobe add-ons memory usage is greatly reduced. If I understood correctly it is possible to disable the plugin container and run adobe via the old method and another user thought that would solve the problem. I do not understand how it would make a difference but if you havent found a solution you may want to try it. See these 2 threads in the Mozilla forum:

I've previously had problems with Adobe crashing Firefox . At least now with Adobe being in the plugin container Firefox does not crash along with it.
I have another issue - I can sometimes still hear the music from a game after I have exited the game and closed the window. I would like to know how to release the resources used by Adobe - kind of like FireFox's RamBack.

External hard drives won't mount after upgrading to Tiger 10.4.9. Help!

Hi, I've just got the latest iMac. Very excited! I did all the software updates, connected my Western Digital extended hard drive so that I could copy some files over onto my new Mac. It was fine at first. Then when I wanted to open up the external hard drive icon on my desktop again and double clicked on it, everything disappeared from the screen for a few seconds, then reappeared but my external hard drive simply opened the window to my personal hard drive on the Mac. The WD links to my computer via Firewire. I then connected my USB external hard drive stick and it was the same story.
I used Disk Utility to test everything and everything was fine.
I then reinstalled Mac OSX 10.4.8 and plugged in my external hard drives. Everything worked perfectly. After copying over documents and a couple of programs, and downloading a few more programs, I ran my software updates again, upgrading the operating system to Tiger 10.4.9. I attached my external hard drive and it was the same problem all over again.
I the read up the online discussions and also chatted to an Apple dealer, and their advice was to download the Intel Combo and reinstall the operating system. I have just done this and my external hard drives will still not mount properly. Their icons appear on screen but double click them and everything disappears.
Please help. This is really frustrating as I have a backlog of work to do and I seem to be wasting hours on this. Not only that, this is a brand new machine which I rightly expect to work straight away.

Need to make space in my Hard drive to install Logic Studio Upgrade

ok. Here's my problem:
I have a 1st generation Mac Book Pro. That means 100Gb of storage.
I've been using it for professional audio recording since then with Logic Pro (6 or 7 I think) and I made necessary upgrades when they were available in both Mac book and Logic. So, now my Mac has 2.16 GHz processor, 2GB memory RAM and is running Mac OS X 10.6.3
When it comes to Logic, I am in Logic 8, trying to make the last upgrade of Logic Studio but looks like there's no more space available on my laptop. At this point, I moved any other data that I don't need. My Hard drive is almost full of a data that most of it supposedly needs to be replaced or skipped. I'm talking about additional content of audio coming on Jam Pack, etc... The installation program allow me to put some of the data in other hard drives (about 22.68 GB) but still is not enough.
Is there any way to solve this? May be uninstalling programs and data that later will be installed again with my upgrade? I don't want to make a mess before asking.
Probably is time to get a new computer. If this is the only option please somebody tell me! but if is not, I refuse to spend the money. My laptop is working fine...

Well, first i would decide what you need the computer for. If you use iPhoto and iTunes, maybe moving the libraries to external HD may free up a significant amount of HD space.
Also, look for apps you don't need anymore, look for ancient data that can be zipped&archived away. That's a lot of work, but is worth the time, because you get to know what really is on your HD. I have so many small apps&tools lying around on my HD clogging space, but in fact i only used them once or twice in a lifetime, so better delete them.
BTW: Make sure you have enough space on your HD not only to install Logic studio but have some extra GB's for the OS to shuffle data around. No OS likes a full HD.
My strong suggestion would to give your Macbook to a trustworthy Mac store where they install a bigger HD and copy everything over to the new one.
