Can the Intellipoint mouse center scroll button open a new tab?
I have a Microsoft Wheel Mouse optical USB mouse with a scroll wheel which can be modified from within the System Preferences settings. The Wheel Button however has a limited number of options. Different from Windows, this mouse, in the Mac, does not have the option to set the wheel button to open a new tab. Perhaps I can't figure it out from the options available, but is there a way to force it to open a new tab, like in Windows?

My apologies for my late reply to your very helpful response.
However, my question probably was not well made. What I meant was to click on a link with the wheel button and open the link in a new tab.
What assigning command-t does is open a new tab. Not what I meant.

In the prior version of Firefox before I was encouraged to download the newest version... when I would open a new tab: on the blank page below would appear thumbnail versions of web sites I had frequented which was awesome to return to sites without even going to bookmarks. Now when I open a new tab it is just a blank white screen beneath. Is there something I can do to make thumbnails appear again on the screen below when I open a new tab?

Safari 5.1.9 Why can't we set up Safari to open a new tab by clicking on a hyperlink?
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8, using Safari 5.1.9.
I was wondering why Safari doesn't have the option so that a new tab is opened after clicking on a hyperlink, and to avoid the need to control click?I just learnt, by accident, that simply clicking the 'Open Apple' button the 'select' button opens a new tab when accessing a hyperlink.
'select' is the word I am using for an older MacBook Pro button which is located at the bottom of the trackpad.
Which is a satisfactory answer to my question.

Up until yesterday, I could open a new tab with a blank page. Now, every new tab opens to a bing search page and focus is in the search box. Very annoying when I begin to type a URL and have to click in the URL to continue typing. How do I get back to a blank page opening?
Thanks. You did have to go through another step-"Extensions", to find the Icon for the StartNow Toolbar with Bing involved.
Yep tried it and it got rid of Bing!! Happy Happy -

Middle Button Open in New Tab Bug
Like many people, I use the middle button when clicking links to open them in a new tab. In Safari 4.0.1 this feature is buggy. Sometimes it opens a new tab, other times it opens a new tab and the current tab ALSO switches to the clicked link. So you end up with two tabs of the same link. Seemingly at random it will work properly, and then not work.
Note* In order to eliminate the possibility of mouse malfunction, I tested it with firefox and camino. Both opened new tabs 100% of the time with middle clicks of my Logitech G5. Sounds like a mouse on its' way to mouse-heaven. Seriously, the exact symptoms I have seen with a dozen 3 button mouse's (?meese - ?mice) over the last 15 years. <br />
Not registering a click is usually due to a dirty contact. And the "double-click" is when the flat spring looses tension and bounces.
I have had similar happen with the left button, too. But when it happens to that button it is more noticeable much sooner.
I bought a box of a dozen A4D house branded infrared wireless 3-button mouse's for like $24.00 back in 2000 that were on clearance because the driver disk didn't support W2K, only Win95, 98, and NT4. I got newer drivers from the A4D website and wore all 12 out over the 8 or 9 years. I even fixed a few that broke from the parts from other broken mouse's. I still have 6 or 7 of them laying in the "needs to be fixed" box under my workbench. I'll probably never fix them though, the nano receiver USB mouses I have been using for the 4 or 5 years have much better battery life and lately only need one AA battery. -

You can do that by using an add-on such as:

Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar. -
Can no longer see "picture" urls when opening a new tab
A few months ago, there was a new feature that allowed me show URLs I chose, when I opened a new tab. I don't remember what it's called.
Now when I open a new tab, it's just blank.A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

The above. When I opened a new tab in the past, before the new update, firefox would automatically highlight the text in the address bar, and I could simply start typing from there the address of the site I wanted. I could quickly get to anywhere I wanted in less than a second. Now, I have to drag and click into the address bar every time. I installed an add-on called "custom newtab" but it just slows me down further due to a lag between the opening of a new tab, and the add-on kicking in and highlighting the address bar content.
What happens is this:
Click "new tab"
New tab opens blank and the text appears highlighted "google.co.uk" for about a quarter second.
Page loads Google and the highlighted text becomes unhighlighted for another quarter second.
Add-on kicks in and highlights the text "google.co.uk" meanwhile I've already begun typing and end up losing the first part of the words, sending me to random web pages and searches.
Why did this change?! Fix it please!YES!! Thank you jscher2000! You sir are a legend. Thanks for this, changed the newtaburl in about:config, totally worked. Nope, never saw it happening! Speedy machine this one :P Yep, that change completely sorted the issue, just opened about 741 new tabs through the shortcut on my mouse just to celebrate. Can't Ctrl+Click My Threads to open in new tab (Chrome)
Today I find that I can't Ctrl+Click "My Threads" or "My Forums Threads" or "My Profile" (any of those options in the Quick Access menu) to open it in a new window in Chrome. Right click and Open in new tab works
fine, but the Ctrl+Click doesn't work.
This is crippling. Must be fixed.

Personally, I do not use the navigation facilities of the forums. Rather, I have created browser bookmarks for individual forums, groups of forums, My Threads, My Profile, My Forums, My Settings... whatever. These will not be affected by the kind of issues
you mention.

How do I change the page it goes to win opening a new tab?
Okay. So I recently downloaded something that made my new tab into a Bing thing. That's not very descriptive, so... Basically when I used to open a tab, it would just be a blank, white page. But after downloading Gimp 2, an editing software, it also downloaded a Bing search thing every time I open a new tab, even when I clicked for it not to do that. So how do I get my new tab back to being just a blank page?

How can I change the default url each time I open a new tab?
New tabs used to open up with the same home page I use when I open firefox but now all tabs open up with something different and I can't find where to change that.
New tabs in Firefox have always been a blank page by default, but there are many different add-ons that can change that action to a specific web page.
This is probably the simplest add0on to do that, but first you need to figure which add-0n changed it from a blank page and get rid of that add-on. <br />
