Want to play tvcatchup on my iPad and have the sound play through my speakers that will be connected to airport express. I haven't yet bought an airport express so want to know whether this will work......

Yes, it should work. It does for me.

  • Can I connect my TV sound to Airport Express?

    Greetings,
I have a pair of Audio Engine A5 speakers connected to AirPort Express.  I use AirFoil from my iMac to stream music from Pandora through Airport Express to the A5s.  Now I would like to hook my Samsung TV to the same A5 speakers.  Is this possible?  How would I do it?  What kind of wiring would this require?  My knowledge is basic, so any and all details will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    BCB

From what I can tell, the A5 speakers have 2 audio input jacks.. One on the top and one on the rear of the speakers.
You simply connect a 1/8" stereo audio cable between one of the audio input jacks on the speakers and the AirPort Express audio output jack, and connect a similar cable from the audio output jack from your Samsung TV to the other speaker input jack. If your Samsung TV has RCA phono audio outputs (red and white jacks) you'll need to use a RCA to 1/8" Y adapter.
I didn't see where the A5 speakers have an A or B audio input switch which means both jacks may be connected to the speakers at the same time. So you should be careful to only have either the TV or Airplay going at one time.

  • IPAD/IPOD playing music to a Airport Express - No Sound?

I have an IPAD and an IPOD.  IPAD is 4th gen, IOS7.  IPOD is 4th gen, IOS6.
Airport express is the new one second generation.  Airport Express is wired to my home network, and its in bridged mode with wireless off.  Its purpose is only to play music via airplay.
When I turn on airplay on my IPAD or IPOD I can always see my Airport Express.  It always allows me to select it as my output speaker.  However, only sometimes does music actually play through my Airport Express / Stereo setup.  The IPAD or IPOD always shows the music playing in its music playing app.  It appears as if its working.  I just cant always hear it.
If Im trying to play music but no sound is coming out of my stereo, I can power off my IPAD or IPOD, then try playing music again and it will work.  This is a work-around to my problem that really bugs me.  I want to properly diagnose this problem so that I do not have to power cycle my iDevice before using airplay.
Ive read many posts about Airport Express sound problems.  Most problems seem to be either short audio drop-outs, or not detecting the Airport Express.  I think my problem is different.
I have read some people had success downgrading their Airport Express firmware to 7.6.1 to fix the short audio drop-outs.  I have not tried this as my problem is not worth audio drop-outs.  Its with no sound at all playing.
I am begginging to think the Airport Express isnt as rock-solid for airplay as I thought.
    QUESTIONS:
Are there any tools available for troubleshooting this type of problem?  The knowledge base articles Ive read from Apple have been no help.

Can I play ipad / iphone etc direct to airport express without router or internet?

Something must produce a wireless signal to do what you want.
The AirPort Express is a router.
Is it possible to configure the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" and then ignore the messages informing you that you do not have an Ethernet cable plugged into the Express, and do not have an Internet connection / DNS service.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

    Anyone have any ideas?

You have two choices to try & fix this: 1. Backup your phone, then restore as a new device, then restore from the backup you first created, or 2. Follow the advise from this poster:
I had the same problem with the black blocks after upgrading to iOS4 on my iPhone. The reason for the black blocks is that the thumbnail images for those particular images have not been created when the Photo Library has been updated to iOS4. I followed the advice on a couple of blogs and fixed the problem.
    1. I downloaded iPhone Explorer free software (http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/) so I could view the photo data folders on my phone. I could see that the thumbnail images were missing.
    2. I followed a slight variation on the instructions on this blog. (http://blog.mbentley.net/2010/06/iphone-ios-4-upgrade-restore-lost-pictures-in-c amera-roll/)
    3. First I copied the Photo Data folder by dragging it from the iPhone Explorer window to my Mac desktop.
    4. Through iPhone Explorer I deleted the info.plist file in the Media/PhotoData/MISC folder.
    5. I also deleted the Photos.sqlite and PhotosAux.sqlite files in Media/PhotoData.
    6. I then rebooted the phone and launched the Photo Library.
    7. The Library rebuilt it's self again and recreated the thumbnails.
    8. The problem was fixed!!! Thank you M Bentley!
I hope this helps - this has been bugging me for 2 weeks.

Now I only get one HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\
    QuicktimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID.
some folks have been having some success with pgfpdwife's technique in the following post:
pgfpdwife: Re: Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classic\Quicktime.Quicktime\
note carefully that the technique involves a registry edit. be sure to make a backup of any keys you edit. if you're unfamiliar with your registry or registry editing, head to your XP help and support, do a search on registry, and read through the articles that come up.
There are also some instructions on how to back up registry keys in the following document:
Error 1406 or 1402 appears when you install iTunes or QuickTime for Windows

  • Why won't my iPad play videos?

I have had my iPad since August and have never had this problem. All of the sudden I can no longer play videos. They load off of sites like YouTube.com but when I select the "play" arrow, it momentarily looks like it will play but then goes back like it is ready to play again.
Also, I have noticed that certain tags on Facebook no longer work either.
I have turned off the iPad to see if the problem would go away. It did not. Can anyone tell me if there is a reset that can be done? Or another solution?
    Thanks!

  • Can the iPad truly replace a "normal" computer yet?

My wife and I are looking to replace two computers. One is her Sony Vaio laptop, the other is my iMac G5. I mentioned to her that we could both get iPads, one for me and one for her and that it would really do everything we would need them to do. I know that the collective opinion is that tablets are the future of computing - proof being Apple releasing a 128GB iPad w/ Retina today. If I were to "start from scratch", as in, I don't have a PC with this content already on it that can be easily synched to the new iPads - I just have two iPads that I need to get my physical music albums onto as well as GBs of photos from my camera. Can you get you're own content to the iPad without the help of a traditional computer - be it laptop or desktop? Is there some sort of USB adapter for the new iPads that you can use to connect other devices to it for uploading content - like a external CD-ROM drive or a camera?

Great discussion, but I don't think anyone has addressed the true question. ddemuth78 isn't asking is it feasible, he's asking if it is even possible. He has already stated the iPad does everything he and his wife do with their computers. The question is, "is it yet physically possible to have an iPad be a single stand alone computer?"
There are two basic uses for a computer, creating content, and consuming content. As a content creator, I find the iPad nearly useless. However, as a content consumer, I find the iPad (or any well designed tablet) to be the best device for consuming. Obviously, if you have multiple monitors or need in depth file management tools, the iPad isnt the right tool for the job. But what if the iPad IS the right tool for every job you want your computer to do? Is it physically possible to have just an iPad without another "real" computer to connect it to? Someone else already mentioned, by adding a simple case with integrated keyboard you have resolved the main issue with any content creation, the virtual keyboard reduces everyone to "hunt and peck" mode. Alternatively, you could connect a Bluetooth wireless full keyboard as well so you can type on your lap. First issue resolved.
The biggest issue I see with having the iPad as your only computer is that it simply wasn't designed to be so. It was designed to be managed by syncing it to the main computer using a USB cable and iTunes as the management software. However, the reason the main question can even be asked is because eventually, once you've got the iPad set up the way you want it, and you've transferred your music (which largely lives on iCloud now for free with the advent of iTunes Match), and photos from the main computer (especially if you now use the iPad as your camera so no more transferring required), once you get to this point, you really don't need to connect to you computer any more. Or do you?
For the email, music, pictures, games, and video chat crowd, once you've got the iPad set up the way you want it, do you ever NEED to connect it to a computer again? THATS the question. Plus, is the question (or the answer) different for the owners of different generations of iPads (or other tablets).
My mother plays games, does email, browses, takes pics on a camera (iPad 0, no camera) and uploads them to various sites. Her Wintel machine is 15 YEARS OLD!!!!! She is an artistic person and hates the machine and all the boxes and wires.she loves the wireless iPad. Clearly, if she is going to continue to own a computer it's time to get a new one. It would be a MUCH more pleasant experience on a new computer, but she will still need to got to the computer to use it, and still have to look at the modem, router, and accompanying wires. Question, can she use the iPad wirelessly in the living room, using the HD flat screen TV as the monitor, the virtual keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard and the iPads touch screen for the mouse and NOT buy a new computer? The question isn't "is this the right thing for her?" It absolutely is. The question is, can the iPod successfully survive without being synced to a main computer ever again?"
The only reason this is even a question is because the iPad was never designed to do this. It may have been envisioned as being able to do this one day, that may well be its ultimate function, but as yet, it has not been designed to survive without the occasional syncing to a main computer. Keeping in mind the iPad is really just an iPhone without the phone. Even iPhone, until the current release of iPhone 5 was meant to sync to a computer. My understanding is that the new 5 can in fact live successfully without syncing to a computer - the market wanted it so Apple delivered. So, can the iPad currently do the same or is there still a generation or two to go before it gets there? Especially the iPad 0. Are there things that it simply needs to be synced to the computer for that would hamper its function as a stand alone device? I don't know. What I do know is that it was designed as a side car, as a piggyback unit, as an extension of your main computer to give you a consumption option other than sitting at that desk in that folded up shape.
My mother is asking, and I am investigating. It seems like it should be able to survive to on its own, without another computer, but it wasn't designed for that so I am loathe to tell her yet that it is OK.
Anyone got any absolute knowledge one way or another, or resources that can be used to get a definitive answer?
    Thanks.

  • Can any  IPADS forward video & or music  through your local network to a device(tv) like android and surface devices

can any Ipads forward video & music through your local network to a device(tv) like an android or surface tablet

Had the same issue here.  Here is the best solution I have found so far:
Hotspot + Pepwave Max On-The-Go (w/ Load Balancing) + Airport Extreme
I have a VZW MiFi, but I believe this set-up will work with other hotspot devices.  I actually have 2 MiFi Hotspots with a monthly allowance of 20G each.  They are plugged directly into the Pepwave router (aka, tethered).  (Note:  you have to have the right cable to do this.  The one that came with my Hotspot was only for charging.)  If, for some reason, you cannot tether with your Hotspot device, you want a router that offers WiFi as WAN.  The Pepwave will do this.  The Pepwave is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet cable.  I have the WiFi on the MiFis and the Pepwave turned off.  So the only visible network is my Airport Extreme.  The Pepwave is essentially just functioning as a modem.
I used to have a Cradlepoint, but I did not find it very user friendly--too complex for home use.  The Pepwave Max OTG is awesome.  I got the one with Load Balancing so it allows you to connect up to 4 cellular devices.  If you only need the one Hotspot, you can just get the cheaper Pepwave Max OTG.  The Pepwave allows me to run off one of the MiFis until I hit my 20G/month allowance, then it automatically switches to the other one.  That way I never max-out on my monthly data allowance.  Additionally, it gives you a real-time, hourly, daily and monthly running tally on data usage.
The guys at the 3Gstore are excellent and can help you figure out the best solution for your situation.

  • ITunes error message - "video format is not supported by the iPad" My video is mp4, mpeg-4.

When syncing my iPad 2....  Why do I get this iTunes error message? "video format is not supported by the iPad"
My video is mp4, another is mpeg-4.
I thought the iPad 2 could play almost any format.

    Must conform to these specs:
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Or download an alternate video player, such as avplayerhd.

  • I can no longer play videos on my Mac mini.

I got a new magic mouse for Christmas. I connected it to my Mac mini Lion. It works great but I can no
longer play videos like from YouTube. I just see a black screen. Even the start triangle does not show up.
This is date coincident with installing the new mouse.
Does anybody have a clue what is going on here?
    Thanks in advance.

The Magic Mouse and YouTube videos don't have anything to do with each other. I switch between my Magic Mouse and my track pad all day, and it has no effect on YouTube.
YouTube playback is browser and Flash Player related.
Check your Safari Security preferences to be sure that Plugins are allowed.
Worst case, do a "clean Install" of Flash Player. Instructions (with illustrations) are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1343084
