Can the Maemo 5 in N900 be upgraded !

Hi Guys,
My question is right now the OS in N900 is Maemo 5, say going forward if there is a new version of Maemo released like a Ver 5.1 or Ver.6. Can the existing Maemo 5 in N900 be upgraded to that.
Thanks !

You're information is a bit out of date! but yes.. there will be a new OS either this year or next.. this does not mean there will be a new OS for the N900!
Noki a's Maemo has merged with Intel's Moblin project to form a new OS called MeeGo
Nokia's next OS will be MeeGo 1.0, not Maemo6 though it will incorporate a lot of what Maemo6 was going to be.
The next OS they release is being designed for new hardware.. a new phone no doubt we'll see later this year or next year..
Nokia have also mentioned they are working on "Meego for the N900" See this post I made a while ago about the Meego for N900 project:
/t5/Maemo-Devices/Status-update-for-MeeGo-on-the-N900/td-p/672845/jump-to/first-unread-message
Nokia have never previously provided a new OS for old hardware.. When S60 3rd edition arrived, you couldn't install it on older phones.. it was for new phones only.. The same may be true of the N900 in the end.. We'll have to wait and see how the Meego for N900 pans out.

  • Can the HAP-Z1ES high resplayer be upgraded via firmware to play DSD or DFF 256?

The Sony HAP-Z1ES is excellent, and has upgradable firmware. I have already seen improvements and enhancements through Sony's upgrades to firmware, which only shows Sony's committment to the product.
I would be interested in seeing an upgrade to firmware which might expand its capabilities to play 4xDSD, so that the unit could also play 256 DSD and DFF.  Is that something which could be done via firmware upgrades. That would simply expand the number titles that the unit could play, increasing the number of titles that could be downloaded from the Internet.  If possible, I would hope that engineers at Sony would consider such an upgrade.
The Sony HAP-Z1ES is an excellent product, as good as any professional gear that I have owned. Sony is to be commended for building a unit of such outstanding high-fidelity.
    Best,

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents.  You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out?  After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac.  It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

Have you tried using Applications/Image Capture to scan.
    Vuescan often works.

I'm installing windows 7 64-bit on my imac which I've done before but I get a message that the partition is GPT even after I format the bootcamp partition.  I just upgraded my hard drive to a 3tb and I'm allocating 1tb for windows. How can I fix this?

No easy fix for a few reasons:
    1) Bootcamp requires a hybrid MBR for the partition table. That is: both an MBR and a GPT partition table at the same time with the GPT one having all partitions and the MBR one having only the ones that are relevant, but at most 4 of them (including the protective partition and the Macintosh HD one). Which leads us to:
    2) The MBR part of the hybrid partition table cannot work with 3TB hard drives. MBR is limited to 2TB.
I am working on a small EFI app that can boot Windows in EFI mode on a Mac and that would mean that you can go GPT only on your system. The progress of the app is slow due to the nature of EFI and for now requires that you do an unattended Windows install with slipstreamed graphics drivers, but we are adding VGA loading on top of EFI quite soon after the rest of the app stabilises. The status of the app is documented at:
Win7 x64 booting natively via EFI (no bios emulation)
Windows does actually successfully boot in EFI mode on most Macs (anything with a 64bit EFI should work), but does not have graphics support even if you load the driver due to the VGA pci registers not being set by the firmware. Furthermore, in Setup and Safe Mode, Windows uses VGA instead of GOP which is a failure by design since VGA is a BIOS standard and not really compatible without hacks with EFI. Other EFI implementations also add VGA compatibility at a high cost to the firmware complexity for the VGA cards available on the market that don't actually contain anything in their ROM except the VGA BIOS.
    My recomendations:
    1) Install on a second smaller hard-drive; or
    2) Wait for the EFI app to come out officially and use that to boot Windows Vista SP1 x64 and Windows 7 x64 (RTM and SP1) in the native EFI mode.
    3) Wait for Windows 8 which supports VGA-less booting acording to the AMD presentation at UEFI Plugfest.

  • Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?

Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?  I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive.  I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future.  So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options?  If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices.  But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop).  I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined!  (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices.  I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question?  Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future?  Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops!  And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?
    Thanks everybody!

The modules are proprietary. They are installed in a slot secured with a tiny screw.
macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop.

  • I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and I noticed that I have more capacity available on the Macintosh HD. I checked my files and applications and they are still on my computer. Can capacity on the HD change after an OS upgrade?

I recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MacBook and I noticed that I have more capacity on the Macintosh HD than before the upgrade. I checked my files and applications and they are still on my computer and nothing appears to be missing. Before the upgrade I had around 111 GB capacity with around 10.50 GB available on the Mac HD but now after the upgrade I have 119 GB capacity and 20.92 GB available. Can capacity on the HD change after an OS upgrade?

No, but the upgrade removed unneeded PowerPC code and changed the way free space is determined.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • Can the Graphics card on an iMac 24" be upgraded?

Not an expert on graphic cards, but can the ones in an iMac 20" or 24" be upgraded whenever a better one is released? I don't mind taking it to the Apple Store if that's they only way to upgrade it.
Also has anyone ever run Oblivion with Parallels or on Windows-on-Mac after installing it with Boot Camp?

Currently no such upgrade program has been announced. There has been some rumbling on the web that it might be upgradeable. But Apple has not officially announced a path. Any such upgrades would have to be done out of warranty unless you saw a program on the Do-It-Yourself pages of Apple's support webpage for the iMac.

Is your Apple Intel-based, poppelmacbook?  If not, you should consider treating yourself to a new Mac. Last December I gave up my old because it just could not update...anything because it was not Intel-based.  Updating everything on this OS to 10.9 has been confusing for me, but I just could not work with that old Mac because the updates were too smart? for my 10.6.  It is upstairs now...for visiting family:  games, garage band, etc.--things I never did use.  Apple refurbished and purchase the extended warranty.  Apple loyalist since late 1980's.

Can I get the new iWork as a free upgrade if I have iWork '08?
    If so, how?

It is my understanding that the free upgrade is from iWork 09. The upgrade from iWork 08 to iWork 09 is always been a paid upgrade.

    I need space!

First let me disabuse of a misconception:  All Adobe upgrades are FULL installers.  Whether you buy them as upgrades or new versions does not make an iota of difference.  The upgrade installers do not need to find a prior version installed, they just prompt you for the old serial number as well as the old one, and they do not rely on the old version in the least.
Second, the time to uninstall an older version is BEFORE upgrading to a newer one.  Otherwise, the uninstaller from the older versions will mess up with your new install.  There are a gazillion files that are named the same and in the same locations as the new one.
Your best bet now is to uninstall ALL the Photoshop versions you have installed, including the newest one, one by one, then run the Adobe CS Cleaner Tool, then run Repair Permissions from Apple's Desk Utility, and finally re-install the latest version.
The other alternative, if your boot HD is large enough (very doubtful in case of a laptop like a Mac Book), is to leave all versions on it.
    Your choice.

I just realized I need 64MB of VRAM for elements 6 and I only have 32MB.  Does that mean elements 6 would not be compatible?

  • How can the 8.5 Crystal (upgraded version) be installed on a Win7 64-bit PC

My client has bought a laptop with Windows 7 64-bit.  They are trying to install CR 6.0 so they can install CR8.5 witch is an upgrade, but they seem to be running into a problem.  Is this a possible and how do you do it?

In a nut shell; it can't. [This|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=56787567] wiki has info for supported operating systems by version of CR.
Note that CR 8.5 is not even there... As per the wiki, your only option is to upgrade to CR XI R2 (11.5).
