Can the Magic Mouse be configured to not spring open files?

The Magic Mouse I received with my PowerMac springs open files, that is clicking once opens every single file. I am constantly having to close files that have automatically opened. It's a real interruption of the work-flow. Is there any way to stop this from happening. There seems is no remedy for this in Preferences.

Thank you for your response and it turns out you are on the right track. After posting the question, I went back once again to the Magic Mouse preferences and where I had set the double mouse click speed to slow, thinking that might prevent files from sprining open, I turned the double click speed up to the fastest setting. Now the files don't automatically launch on single click. I'm a bit slow I guess, I was thinking the opposite way. Now of course I have to click like a banshee to get the darn thing to open, but it's better that way. I'll fiddle with the setting... Thanks again.

Can the Magic Mouse be paired with the original iPad ?

No, neither the first nor the second gen iPad supports a mouse - there is no cursor for a mouse to control, all you have on the iPad is an insertion point when entering or amending text

  • I use an iMac (27" 3.4) and have problems with the Magic Mouse. It does not use contact, but opens useless and unrelated submenus with every click, even on the empty desktop. I can't shift, open or close pages. Has anyone out there the same problem?

I use an iMac 27" (mid 2011). Until recently I had OSX 10.6.8 installed, but both, the HDD and SSD had to be replaced, and I lost all the memory.
After the repair through Apple Care I had OSX 10.7.5. (Lion) installed, which developed a Magic Mouse problem.
Unlike with most users, I have no problems with connection, but grapple with a different kind of erratic behaviour.
All fancy stuff is turned off in the mouse preferences. When I try to move, open or close pages, unrelated submenus pop up and hinder the
required task. No matter how often I click, these menus stay there, and they even come up when clicking on the bare desktop.
It renders the mouse absolutely useless, as no work can be done with it.
The first 'Magic Mouse' had depleted batteries every few days, despite switching it off after use.
I was supplied a new Mouse, which does better battery-wise, but the problems are the same. I can't get a result by clicking on any link, due to
the pop-up menus, so both 'Magic Mice' are totally useless.
At present I am using the old USB mouse from my Mac Pro, and that works still o.k.
The problem are not the mice, but the software. The first 2 weeks after installation of OSX 10.7.5 the Magic Mouse worked though.
I have no idea as to what the reason may be.
Has anyone in the community ever experienced that particular problem. Any hint would be welcomed.
    Thank you!

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee
    Cheers, Gerd

  • How Do You Rename the Magic Mouse's Actual Name (Not the Display Name)

Hi. The Magic Mouse's display name is Servant777 but it's actual name is really something like mouse no. 1 which I take was from the store that first paired the mouse to test it ( I usually have it tested first after buying things, not all the time but sometimes, can't remember, it was 3 years ago).
How do you kind of "reset" the Magic Mouse like it's the first time it's being used and paired. I've tried: disconnecting and removing it from the bluetooth preference as well the on in the Mouse settings. It'd be nice if there's some kind of reset but it doesn't change the actual name, only the disply name could be changed. Is there any Terminal command for this?
Thank you in advance. Have a great upcoming sunday mass/great weekend.
    God bless,

  • Can the magic mouse be set to emulate a right click when tapped?

I recently purchased an Apple Magic Mouse.
I also have a MBP with a track pad which I have configured to do a right click when I tap it.
The small problem I have is that the AMM needs to be pressed similar to the way the track pad used to before I configured the tap-to-click.
Can this be done for the magic mouse.
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Barry

    Hello there, bholtzkener.
To set up secondary click on the mouse the following article should provide very helpful:
OS X Mountain Lion: Use an Apple Magic Mouse
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11298
The screen where you make the choice looks like this:
Keep in mind, the mouse should be used with the Apple logo at the base of the hand and should provide the "click" sensation when you tap the other side with finger tips.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Can the magic mouse and magic trackpad be used together

Having just purchased a new iMac with a wireless keyboard and magic mouse, I want to add a keypad and I'm looking at purchasing the Magic Trackpad with the Mobee Magic Numpad overlay (and connecting it to the keyboard with the Twelve South Magic Wand).
What I need to know is - if using the Magic Trackpad, can I still use the Magic Mouse at the same or must it be one or the other (would there be any conflicts)?

Yes, they can both be enabled at the same time as can the keyboard.

  • Can the Magic Mouse work without clicking?

I thought it would have the same options as the Magic Trackpad on my Macbook Pro, but see no way to open/close programs, etc. without clicking. I have an injury that makes the clicking action painful, so have been grateful for the tapping option on the trackpad, and bought the Magic Mouse thinking it would have the same features. I get the swiping between pages, scrolling etc. Anyone know if I'm missing something on this? The demos on the settings didn't give the option, so I'm thinking the Magic Mouse isn't as talented as the Magic Trackpad.

If you want to, 'er, "teach" it more tricks you will need a third party utility like MagicPrefs.
    Other mouse utilities:
    BetterTouchTool
    SteerMouse
    MagicDriver
I don't know if any of these guys will do exactly what you want but it may be worth looking at them.

  • Why is the battery charger for the magic mouse and wireless keyboard not included in the package when I bought my iMac?

I was not given a choice or let known that I would receive wireless keyboard and mouse that requires charging. If I had known earlier I would have asked for non-wireless devices or bought the charger on spot.
The charger should've been a given and not be considered as a separate accessory that requires to be bought. This is the same as having bought an iPhone but not given the charger.
I am very disappointed with Apple regarding this matter. I hope it'll be resolved soon.

Oh, okay now I see where you're coming from. Sorry, I didn't know that they provided us with non-rechargeable batteries instead.
Well in that case, they should've provided us with rechargeable batteries instead of the alkaline ones. I mean, the sole purpose of having wireless mouse/keyboard is the purpose of convenience. Having to replace the batteries (that don't last very long from my experience) does not seem convenient to me.
What's more, by providing users with non-rechargeable batteries is not an environmentally friendly choice as this results in an increase in disposal of hazardous waste. I'm bringing this environmental issue up because they have an environmental policy in their company, and on their website they talk about their environmental resposibilities which is quite contradicting as shown in their actions, don't you think?

  • Can the playbar widget be configured to start an audio file once 'play' is clicked?

    Captivate 5
I'd like to create a slide in which the user can click on a 'play' button to hear some audio.  Preferrably, I'd like the button to toggle between symbols representing 'play' and 'pause' when the audio is playing.
I was hoping that inserting a playbar widget would accomplish this, but unfortunately the audio I've attached to the widget plays automatically when the slide begins.  I'd like the audio only to play when the user clicks the play button on the widget.
I understand that there are work-arounds for this, but aesthetically it's important to me that the button be dynamic (that is, that it should change when the user clicks it).
    Thanks.

The general workaround for dynamic buttons like you describe is to use Show/Hide Advanced Actions to make it appear as if the button is changing by toggling the images the user sees.
As for getting the user to hear audio when a button is clicked...this is easy enough to do by attaching the audio to the Success caption of the button.  That way, it will only begin playing when the Success caption appears, not when the button appears.  If you don't want the Success caption to be visible, just turn it into a Transparent caption with no text, or move it off stage (in Cp5).
You'll need to experiment with Advanced Actions to get the toggling of the button images and the play/stop of the sound to work as expected, but it should be doable.
Lilybiri has lots of great stuff on her blog about using Advanced Actions: http://lilybiri.posterous.com/

  • HT204387 iPAD mini iOS 6.1 can pair keyboards, why not the Magic Mouse?

I need to access a site that requires click & drag with my iPad Mini. Has anyone figured out a work-around to get the MAGIC MOUSE to pair with the iPAD Mini? I am having trouble understanding why it won't pair.  Can Apple make an update to iOS 6.1 to include the MM?  It already can pair many other Bluetooth accessories, why not mice?

Thank you KPenguin. I understand now, though I still can't 'click & drag' items in Kano games.  The 2 second hold that works for rearranging app icons doesn't seem to work.  Guess I'll be returning my new MMouse, which is a shame. I was looking forward to playing around with all it's cool features! :)
Note to self: Mouse needs active cursor to work! Haha (it's a duh moment here!!) o.O

I have downloaded and installed 10.8.5 combo but it does not help.
Menu bar - System Preferences/ there is no bluetooth item
    I restarted with cmd + alt + P + R it doesn't help.

Did you try the suggestions from your other post on this?

  • Can Application Switcher Be Assigned To The Magic Mouse ?

I have been a Might Mouse user now since it was released and it's been a very productive mouse... allowing me lots of options while I navigate my finder and files... and assigned Application Switcher to the track ball nipple was for me a must have feature... and now my whole workflow has now become based on this simple feature. I recently purchased a new MacPro 12 Core with Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. The Magic TrackPad I just can't get my fingers adjusted to... so I have counted that out... but the new Magic Mouse I like... I like the way it feels in the hand... I like the wireless feel about it... but the lack of the track ball is proving a difficult adjustment. I have started using CMD TAB but that's proving less effective as I'm sometimes getting mixed up with key stroke shortcuts for Adobe Acrobat... for Quitting etc...
I need to decide what mouse to use... as switching between both is even more confusing. Is the Magic Mouse the absolute future... so should I just stick with that... and adapt... or go back to me seamless Mighty Mouse workflow.
If I could assign the Application Switcher to the Magic Mouse I would stay with it I think.... it's the lack of support for the key feature is proving to be the deal breaker.
Anyone have any comments, advice, suggestions. All comments would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Anthony

    Hi-
Can't predict the future, but I understand the dilemma with regards to which is a better mouse.
For app switching, there is a way to do such, but at the cost of a lost function:

I have boot camp in my MacBook Pro to use AutoCAD. Can I use the magic mouse on my Windows side and use it to work in AutoCAD?

Yes and no. The gestures wont work so it just becomes a regular scroll-wheel mouse.
