CAN THE MS OFFICE FILES MOVED TO TRASH BE  RETRIEVED

I JUST DOWNLOADED APPSCLEANER FROM NET AND ACCIDENTALLY REMOVED SOME FILES OF MS OFFICE  TO TRASH. NOW SOME OF THE APPLICATIONS ARE NOT OPENING OR WORKING PROPERLY AND SHOWING EROR MESSAGE. I TRIED BY DRAGGING THE DELETED FILES/ITEMS TO THE DESKTOP BUT THEY JUST DON'T GO TO THERE ORIGINAL LOCATION. CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME THE WAY TO DO SO ?

You just need to reinstall Office. There's no telling where the files need to go - Office has specified folders for specific functions. I just hope that you didn't trash (or have on the Desktop) any of the files that go into the "Microsoft User Data" that would be in your Documents folder.
You have to be really careful about using any app such as AppCleaner, AppDelete, AppZapper, etc. They will remove files associated with apps, as you've experienced.
Do you have your original MS Office disc? What version are you running? Do you have your activation key handy? If you are running 2011 and don't have the disc, but have the activation key, you can download 2011 from the MS website - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial - and enter your activation key. If it's an earlier version, I just hope that you have your disc.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - I guess this is why Linc Davis considers all of the app-cleaner apps 'very dangerous'...

  • Files moved to trash then stopped are stuck in the process of stopping. Can't escape, or stop the process..how can I stop it?

Files moved to trash. Then I stopped the move. Now they are "stuck" in the process of "stopping" hitting escape does not work. How do I resolve this and either stop the move, or complete it? At this point, I just want the process to end.

Thanks for your response!  Unfortunately, this did not work, but it was worth a try. The computer would not allow me to shut it down with a process still running...

  • After installing an update (on an iMac), can the installer (.dmg) be moved to the trash?

After installing an update (on an iMac of any sort), can the installer (.dmg) be moved to the trash?

If the update is an OS installer, you might want to consider moving it to a folder of an external backup drive for safe keeping. Why? Because Apple removes earlier OS versions when a new one is introduced; there are several threads here about not being able to download Mavericks.
Just a thought. I keep copies of all OS installers. That will come in handy shortly as I just purchased a refurb 2012 iMac because it can run/boot with Mountain Lion which I need for a couple of (important to me) software applications. I have a copy of an ML installer tucked away and ready to go.

  • Can the  microsoft office be installed on the iPad2?

can the microsoft office be installed on the iPad2?

    Fria.
So you want to view edit and even compose MS Office style documents on your iPad well there ARE ways, several in fact and you should not be put OFF by jbjoret's simple NO.
True facts are that todate Microsoft have not produced a version of MS Office suitable for ios or for that matter the other leading mobile ios (Android) either, but that's not the end of the story.
Within Apples ios you can buy and install versions of Pages and Numbers (The Apple productivity suite) and these will allow you to open edit save print email (in a choice of .doc .pdf or .pages formats).
Third party apps such as Documents to Go work near flawlessly with MS Office documents for creation, editing ....
What you probably need to consider is how you get documents on and off your iPad and here you could consider Dropbox.
For viewing PDFs Word and many other files try Goodreader.
And finally you will need helpers for effective printing (Since Airprint capability is limited to a handful of HP eprinters)
Here you could try PrintBureau combined with helper App WePrint Server (Both PC and MAC compatible) this allows you to print to almost any networked printer via WiFi using the host PC.
If you have a Mac also install Printopia to allow printing again to many networked printers. (Similar PC solutions exist as well
This is a lot of information however rest assured you really can do business with an iPad with near full MS OFFICE interoperability
I say near because you always risk hitting a few formatting and/or complex macro problems with more complex MS OFFICE documents (these happen even between differing versions of MS OFFICE as well)

  • Is there any way to stop the print screen from dropping down on top of the page to be printed.  Can the print screen be moved?

Is there a way to stop the print screen from dropping down on top of the page to be printed.  Can the print screen be moved?  When the print screen drops down, it covers the page and the info needed to create the file.  Thank you

You will find that this is application dependent.  Most Apple applications such as Safari and Mail will use the "sheet" type of dialog boxes that you are referring.  There is no way for the user to change that behavior.  Other, non-Apple, applications like Firefox use a "modal" dialog box for printing etc.  The modal boxes can be moved around so you can see the page behind.

  • Can the aTV read files from an iTunes library on my nas drive without my computer being on

I have my itunes library on a My Book Live nas drive that contains all of my digital movies and TV shows. I want to be able to watch my movies from the library without a computer running. I understand that Apple has chosen to chain you to the computer and your itunes account through Home Sharing but I can not see why they couldn't allow you to access a nas drive without a computer running because your aTV is tied to your itunes account also so why do they force you to run a computer 24/7 365 in order to access the files you have bought and paid for.
I have a love/hate for Apple because I love the quality of the products they make but I hate how they make all of the digital files you purchase only accessible through a computer running Home Sharing even though the files are not stored on the computer.
I have tried several things to get this to work without a computer but no luck. The only way I have found to be able to do this is to Jailbreak your aTV and install 3rd party software (which I don't want to do) that will allow you to by pass the computer and Home Sharing (which is dumber than ****) because that is all I want to do is eliminate the need of a computer running wasting electricity (I thought Apple was supposed to be an enviro friendly company, guess not). I am not trying to steal or give someone else my purchased movies and using the aTV and an internet connection they could still be able to tie your media to your itunes account so I just don't get there thinking, or lack of thinking I should say.
Is their a way to do this without Jailbreaking or modifying your aTV?
If not is Apple ever going to wake up and allow there customers to actually USE the media they purchase from them without Home Sharing and a computer running?

  • Can the mailer.cbx file in 6.2 be modified to use port 1025?

Can the mailer.cbx file code in vs. 6.2 be modified to use port 1025?
We need no authentication, only a port change to 1025 to allow the mailer object to work for us. Had it working for several months until ISP blocked port 25. We currently have no email alarm reporting to us from over 100+ alarm events!
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks both Arnis and Mike --
Interesting suggestions from both of you.
Arnis, we're putting the cleanup utility on the back burner for the moment, since in our company, we can get in trouble using third-party software. However, it's good to know about this utility and we will use if it we have to. (Occcasionally we are forced to put our careers on the line for issues like this...)
Mike, we created a folder called "PDFSettings" in the 7.2 "fminit" folder and copied over the six joboptions files from 9.0.  Rebooted, rePDFed and voila, that worked. (Mind you, we can't say for sure that's what worked, because as I said in my original post, the simple act of rebooting "sometimes works, sometimes not...")
Eventually this problem will go away by itself because eventually we will get rid of 7.2 -- it's only deadline time-crunches that have made us reluctant to jump fully-clothed into 9.0...
I really appreciate the two of you taking your time to offer suggestions and help. I can't imagine life in the FrameMaker world without you!
    Cheers,

  • Can't open office files located on a windows server fileshare

Hi TechNet / Office for Mac Community,
re: can't open MS Office files located on a windows server file share
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and/or have a fix?
    Details:
    Clients: Mac OS X 10.6 / 10.7 / 10.8 / 10.9
File share: Windows Server 2008 R2
    Connecting via SMB or CIFS
    Problem:
When mounting the Windows Server file share, Mac clients are unable to open MS Office 2011 files (not just powerpoint) from that location.
Error message: "there was an error accessing /Volumes/data/folder/presentation.pptx"
There is no issue creating or deleting MS Office files from that location.
The Mac 'Preview' application is able to open the same MS Office file without issues.
The file is not corrupted and can be opened when copied to the desktop.
Windows clients have no problem opening the file.
Only this particular file share is having an issue.
Are there any known issues or requirements for Windows Server file shares and MS Office 2011 that would apply to this problem?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

WebPhoenix, recommend you post this question here instead:

  • Can't open office files on iOS 7 or 8

using iPhones 4, 4s, 5 and 5s all with at least iOS7 or greater.  users receive email from our exchange server with microsoft office file attachments (word, excel and powerpoint) and they cant open them.  They hit "download entire message" and then try to open the file.  It takes us to a grey screen with the file name on top, the file name in the middle of the grey screen and it says "Office Open XML Presentation" then the size 870k.

I have just downloaded Adobe reader on to ipad 2. I tried opening a Pdf in ibooks and then Adobe reader. I can only get the introductory pages. I can open the full dcument using adobe reader on my Mac?
It is one of those rare occasions where Apple comes off badly against microsoft. Opening a pdf attachment using windows is a doddle. Opening a pdf document on my mac seems to require me to save the document first - clunky to say the least, opening a pdf on ipad - impossible! All in all pretty rubbish. Can't believe they don't have something like this nailed.

  • Can't open office files from my usb drive

    Dear forum
Sins a few weeks ago i am not able to open office file from my USB-drive.
However i can copy the file to the desktop and than i can open them.
I have this problme only (for as far i know) with office files.
    greetings Ypkoba

If the drive is NTFS format, the Mac can read, but not write thiose drives natively.
So the issue may be that the temp file and the output file cannot be created on the same drive.

  • Can the filter find files with "/" in the name?

I'm importing a lot of files into Aperture. Several files, once imported don't seem to be there because I can't find them when I type in the name of the file. I just found some that have a character in the name :"/". If I type in other parts of the name the file shows up, for instance: "preschool/Kindergarten.tif" ; if I use just "preschool" the file is there. So the file is part of the Aperture library. If I change the names of the files outside of Aperture they won't be found, correct? Since I can't find them within Aperture there is no way to change them within Aperture, correct?

Better not use any characters in filenames, that have a special meaning in the unix operating system.  The "/" character is a separator in the paths to files. It indicates a subfolder. For the unix shell  "preschool/Kindergarten.tif" would mean the file "Kindergarten.tif" in the folder "preschool".For filenames I'd stick to alphanumerical characters for filenames. It is safer.
If I change the names of the files outside of Aperture they won't be found, correct?
That is right. Once imported, don't change the filenames in the Finder.
Since I can't find them within Aperture there is no way to change them within Aperture, correct?
To find your files, you could search for the date or browse the events.
If you can find a file, you can change its filename in Aperture by using the command "Metadata > Batch change".  You can change the version name and check the flag "Apply to original file".
I would also refrain from using the following characters in filenames, even if they are les critical:
    *    ^   \   ;   ˜    {    }

Use the backup of the computer to put the files back.
If no backup exists, the content was purchased iTunes, and you are in the US, they can be redownloaded from the iTunes store.

Thank you very much! But I don't have backup...Any other methods I can use?
Since you don't have backups, you should plan for the worst. It's entirely possible that you'll never see those files again, so be prepared for that. Not having backups is one of the most dangerous things you can do with your computer.
First, you need to shut the machine down. NOW. Seriously, don't even read further, you can come back here on another device to read further instructions. Choose Shut Down from the Apple menu and then, once it has shut down, don't touch the machine again until you're ready to attempt recovery.
For instructions on how to do the recovery, see:
