Can the N8 take an external camera?
Random question.
With all the AV connections the N8 has, does anyone know if you can use it as a recorder with an external camera such as a bullet cam or suchlike?
Just looking to get a clip on camera for 1st person recording of sports (biking, skiing etc) and wondered if I could save myself some money and hassle using my N8 in some way. Not sure I'd want to attach my N8 to my handlebars though!

No. Macs cannot run a system that is older than the hardware. You can however pick up a copy of Snow Leopard Server and run it in a virtual machine using Parallels.

Publisher hardware failure, can the sub take over for the pub?

Publisher exprienced a hardware failure due to a power interruption. Can the Subscriber take the Publisher role? Currently unable to send or receive outside calls only local calling is working. I am trying to get calling to work while we wait for the replacement hardware.

RyanOK, I have made the change to the redundant server, but outside calls are still not going through. The Sub took the place of the primary CM. Are there services on the Sub that need to be started for it to act as a Pub?

Can the Starter Edition open a Camera Raw file?
...might be asking a lot, but does anyone know the full list of file formats that the Starter Editon can open?
Starter Edition can show JPG, TIF and BMP image files along with MOV, AVI, MPG and 3GP (mobile) video files.
Camera raw are supported by Photoshop Elements and not by Starter Edition.

Can the imac be an external monitor fr another system?
Hi, I am wonddering if the monitor portion of the imac can be used on a separate system. I am hoping to use it as an additional monitor for my laptop. This ould not be it's sole use but I would like to be able to do it occasionally. Is this possible?

However,
If its a windows laptop, and you are not doing that requires video playback.
You can use windows remote desktop, which is similar to a vnc but gives you much better performance.
for example, I have been able to use photoshop remotely with acceptable performance, Microsoft word is almost as quick as running in on the physical machine.
The only things a vnc or remote desktop is not suitable for is video playback, games of course, intense graphics, and applications that make direct use of the audio hardware. (audio is redirected to the remote client) -
Final Cut HD 4 is not reading the firewire to my external camera
I am trying to capture clips which I have done many times. I have easy setup set to NTSC and DV-NTSC-Firewire basic. I tried refreshing the devices by going to View - Video out but it does not recognize the Panasonic AGDVC 660 camera. I tried switching the firewire also and there was no change. The firewire is connected tot the only DV port on the camera.
I tried doing the easy setup and starting a brand new project. I also tried rebooting everything.
Please help.Does anyone have an answer here. Because I could not connect directly from the camera, I fortunately have a converter. Using the same firewire FC recognizes the converter when I changed it in Easy Setup.
I am trying it again direct to the camera and FC still does not recognize the direct connection. Is there a fix to this. Please help. -

So, AFTER the impact, the white line has appeared 3 times since?
If that is the case you have a hairline crack that you missed upon close inspection or actual, but rare, LCD damaged that didnt manifest an actual crack.
in which case make appt. with Apple on your display. If there IS a crack you missed at inspection or genuine LCD damage, there is no way to fix that, the display would have to be replaced. -

(a) If you mean that you want to run multiple apps simultaneously using a different camera with each app, you may encounter computing power limitations. Digital video is processor intensive. The only way to know if your Mac can do this it to try it. If the video does not work together but each app works when it it the only app running, you are likely overloading your Mac's ability to process and/or move all the required data in your data bus. You can get a better indication of whether this is the case by watching your Activity Monitor utility while running the apps you want to use.
(b) If you mean that you want to have more than one compatible camera connected to your Mac simultaneously for ease of changing between video sources, some, but not necessarily all, apps you are using to operate your camera(s) allow you to select between your cameras.
How you select among connected cameras depends on which application you are using. Here is how camera selection works in a few examples:
(1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
If you cannot see the "Camera" choices bar, your Mac is recognizing only one (or none) of your cameras. In that case, consider the suggestions fromhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 for iSight problems or refer to your other camera's documentation for help.
This particular choices bar solution applies ONLY to iChat. Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
(2) For instance, iMovie HD's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie6 HD uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I had no built-in iSight connected when I made this example, and because my external iSight was not connected, the drop-down menu showed only "Time Lapse." Because your Mac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight would show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting an additional Mac compatible webcam should allow you to choose either camera.
Other iMovie versions work slightly differently.
iMovie 9 (from iLife '11) uses a different camera choice button shown in this article:

(3) Photo Booth in Snow Leopard 10.6.x and later uses the Photo Booth > Camera menu command to select which camera to use.
Note for readers with older Mac OS X: The previous version of Photo Booth that came with Tiger (10.4.x) is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless your built-in iSight is already occupied as the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use an external camera.
(If you have an external Firewire camera connected, it may be used in preference to any USB webcam. If that is a problem for you, merely disconnect the problem Firewire device.)
(4) For FaceTime, launch the app and click the Video menu item.
If your Mac recognizes more than one connected compatible camera, a "Camera" section listing the cameras from which you can choose will appear there. Clicking on the desired camera name will let you select the one you want as shown in this image from my Mac Pro and LED Cinema Display:
If your Mac recognizes only one compatible camera, the "Camera" section will not appear in the Video menu, but FaceTime will automatically use the connected camera that is recognized by OS X.
(5) I do not use Skype oir Oovoo. For those or other apps, see Help for each app for info on how to select your desired camera.

How can I get iMovie to recognize the external camera?
iMAC running OSX 10.6.8 recognizes external HD Camera hardware, but iMovie fails to recognize the device. I can copy files "manually" using Finder, but cannot import them directly into iMovie. How can I get iMovie to recognize the camera? I have already re-booted all devices and tried multiple USB ports. In all cases the OS recognizes the camera, but iMovie does not.
OK This camcorder is a fine camcorder. I have an earlier model of a similar camcorder from Panasonic. However, this newer model has one problem. It is not compatible with iMovie if you shoot at the highest quality mode, (which is 60P or 50P - which might be called 28MBPS mode). If you shoot 30P or 30i (even 60i) it will import to iMovie. Also, iMovie can handle 1280x720P60 and P50.
It will definitely work on iMovie 11. It should probably work on iMovie 09. I doubt this camera will be recognized at all on iMovie 08, but it is worth a try. To see which iMovie you have, click iMovie/About and check the version. 9.04 would be iMovie 11. (9.08 is the current version, but it will not run on OSX 10.6.8). 8.06 would be iMovie 09. 7.1.4 would be iMovie 08.
OK So how to work around this limitation?
1) If you have Final Cut Pro X ($300) or can justify buying it, it will import 60P and 50P from this camera. However, if this seems a little pricey to you, keep reading.
2) If you set your camera to record in 1080P30 and shoot a short clip, then iMovie should see the camera. Then I would suggest using iMovie import screen to create a CAMERA ARCHIVE of your camera. This will copy to your Mac the entire contents of the video files on your camera. You will need them later. I am assuming you have some valuable footage on the camera that you would like to have.
3) Going forward, the simplest thing is to shoot in 1920x1080P30 and use iMovie normally. The biggest advantage of P60 or P50 is when you need really high quality slow motion effects. In other words, after you edit your movie, everything is converted to P30 or P25 anyway.
4) If you want to retrieve the 1080P50 or 1080P60 clips that you have shot, then there are a couple of apps you can buy to convert them to a form that iMovie can edit. Two such apps are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. There are also various free apps, but I cannot vouch for them. Do a search on google and you may find some that work. -
I have a problem. I take photos with camera of my iPod touch 5 with the effects that comes in the iPod and now when I look to my photos I see that the effects go out and the photos looks like I didn´t put the effects. What is that? How can I solve it?

I just purchased two new SanDisk 8gb SD cards for my trail cameras. When I put the cards into the trail cameras, the cameras will take pictures but it won't store them on the cards. When I put the cards into my 35mm camera the camera tells me that the cards need to be formatted. I have went through the steps in the disk utilities and erased the cards, which I assume is the same as formatting them?? I have tried this for hours and have had no luck getting these things to work at all. It was awful disgusting when I checked my two trail cameras the first time and found out that they had taken close to 75 pictures but the cards were empty. When I bought my 35mm camera several years ago, I bought a couple of Kodak SD cards and used them right out of the package and never had to do any of this formatting thing. I don't understand what is going on and could sure use some help with this. Thanks for any information anyone can give me with this problem. I would love to have seen what animals set my cameras off 75 times in the last few days. Thanks again.

JimAFAIK cameras offer their own built-in format utility for inserted SD cards. You should use that. Otherwise, refer to the manual that came with your camera to determine precisely how your SD cards need to be formatted to work properly. Personally, I'd suggest Partition Scheme: MBR, and Filesystem: FAT32.
Try to limit the number of formats you perform on the SD cards, though, as you're reducing their lifespan. I believe formatting causes re-writes to a portion of the SD card that has fewer read/write cycles than the rest of the card as a whole. -
My iPod touch 4th gen. Won't charge with a enercell charger that I've used since December. It will only charge with the apple USB cord that came with it. And even the takes it about 6 sec. To realize its charging. Help me fix this?
Yes, I've been using it for months. And I can charge other devices with it. (my iPhone) but something weird just happened..... I kept on pluging it in the iPod and sometimes it would start to chàrge then sometimes it won't charge. Charges every time with the iPhone though.

There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
