Can the new iPhone allow landscape/ horizontal keyboarding for text/ email?

One of the things that made me stay with Blackberry was that it was clearly better at typing text and emails. I chose not to buy the original iPhone based on the difficulty of typing text and email in only a portrait/ vertical setting.
Viewing horizontal/ landscape web pages is available - what I would like to know is if horizontal typing for text and email will be a feature?

We will more than likely see when it comes out and we get to play with it. "Small" features like this usually don't get much airtime during a keynote, but it would be nice to see, I hope it's there.
Maybe a mag will do a report on it before we get it.
Thanks for your response. Its too bad everything is so hush hush. It would be nice to see a spread on any new features or enhancements. Hopefully before the actual hands on experience.

  • HT4993 Can the new iphone 4S be made to work with Boost mobile?

I have Boost Mobile and it's part of the Sprint network but they don't offer any iphones.  I was wondering if somehow the iphone 4S could be made to work with my Boost phone number and service. Boost offers pretty lame phones.
    Thanks,

However, when I tried to use the analog (white/red) audio outputs, connected Apple TV to my 30 year old Kenwood integrated amp, the sound was extremely distorted and LOUD.
What input type/level are you using. Many old amps/pre-amps have specific device load/level inputs. It may be possible to use special level/load matching cables or an impedance/level matching box between the TV output and amp/preamp inputs.
Is there any adjustment that can be made to the analog output from apple TV? or do I now have an excuse to go out and buy new audio equipment?
Some very, very old (usually "tube" based) amps/preams may have input level adjustments. I personally would probably use it as an excuse to shop for a new digital AV amp/receiver.

  • Does the new iphone allow viewing of podcast details?

When I switched from my 30Gb ipod to my iphone I was disappointed by the seeming inability of the ipod on the phone to display information about the podcasts. Specifically I like to listen to Fresh air. Terry Gross typically has 2-3 interviews/podcast. By clicking twice on the fresh air logo on my ipod I was able to see all the details of the show so that I could scroll to the interview I was interested in. Is there a way of doing this on the iphone?

The iPhone does not show what Applescript calls the "long description" of a track, but it does show lyrics.
So, what you could do is find or write an AppleScript that copies data from/to the appropriate fields. It might look something like this..
    tell application "iTunes"
set ld to long description of selection
set lyrics of selection to ld
    end tell
This'll work on a single track you've highlighted beforehand. Perhaps someone can write it so it handles more than one at once or triggered after a download.
Also it may not work on every podcast. The first one I tried it on (and really would use it with) doesn't allow lyrics to be added (it was from Audible).

  • Why is it I can't just buy the new iPhone without needing an upgrade?

This has been the most bizarre experience I have ever encountered, and it's enough to put me off Verizon and Apple altogether.
Yesterday, I went to pick up the new iPhone for myself and my wife, having gotten and email that we were eligible for the Early EDGE upgrade. I'm first told at the store that Apple is only allowing 1 phone per person to be sold... Ok, fine. So I get inside and, being the decent gentleman I am, opt to upgrade my wife's line first and will just do mine later that day. Upgrade for her goes smooth, now it's time to do mine. Oh, wait, apparently the EDGE upgrade can be applied to one line, and it was just my wife's; a detail that was cleverly hidden at the bottom of the email in black on grey text after all the marketing copy about how great the new edge program is. The Verizon rep tries to think of ways to get me the phone cheaper, but ultimately can't. I ask if I can just buy the phone at cost, and I'm told no because it doesn't go on sale to the general public until later, though no time is given. Again, Apple's rules.
Now, I'm pretty sure Apple could care less about exactly when someone buys their phone if they have the cash to do so, and I'm doubly sure they don't care about making sure those with upgrades can get the phone. All of this is starting to sound a little iffy. Whatever, I let it slide.
It is now 6pm, still yesterday, and we head into Best Buy to look at cases and see if they have a display 6 Plus to check out, as I'm curious about the size. I ask a Best Buy rep if they have any iPhone 6s left; they do; 128gbs? Yup. Silver??? Yup. VERIZON???? Yup. I'LL TAKE IT! One iPhone 6 at full price please! Oh, wait, no; Apple boogie man says I can't buy the phone for full price, I have to have to qualify for an upgrade. (I'm getting more and more ****** as I'm typing this, FYI). Ok, so now clearly something is amiss. 2 different locations- the official Verizon Store AND Best Buy are telling me I can't buy the phone without an upgrade, and both of them suggesting Early EDGE, even though I have the cash to just buy it. I tweet my frustration to both VerizonWireless and Apple. AC from Verizon Support tweets back sayings they should have let me buy it... Wow, this is ridiculous.
Can someone please clarify this: who is correct here? Is it really Apple playing gate keeper and looking out for those upgrade-only customers? Why is it 2 different places told me the same thing, yet the support rep is telling me something different?
At this point I'm just not going to both attempting to get the phone for a while since this has put me off even trying, but some clarity on just what is going on would be nice. Also, please talk to your Director of Customer Loyalty about his team's email design. While I'm fine with finding out it was just one line, (though I would have preferred both since my wife and I have been on the same account since it opened...), burying that information at the bottom of the email is not going to help retain customers. Expiration dates and other terms of service are fine there, but which line the upgrade applies to needs to be surfaced sooner.

It sounds as if you only had one line with an upgrade available. So you can only upgrade one line. For you to upgrade as well, you will have to wait until your upgrade is available. You can check that at MyVerizon. That's just how it works. All carriers and phone brands are the same. I have to wait until February to upgrade. The only thing you can do to get the new iPhone, is add a new line. But then you're paying for a line you don't need.

  • Is Verizon allowing people to ugrade to the new iPhones early?

Accord to this article Verizon is letting people upgrade to the new iPhones even if they are not currently eligible for an upgrade by adding two years to their current contract. I'm not eligible until November 2015 but if I can upgrade early I will definitely consider it. Does anyone know if this is true or has anyone actually done it?
    Here's the article:
Verizon will allow you to upgrade early to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus : PERSONAL TECH : Tech Times

You read wrong. If your upgrade date is between now and Nov 15th 2014 then yes you can upgrade early. Or if you are within a year of your contract end you can get an upgrade through Edge. but neither applies to you.

  • Can i use the iphone sim card in the new IPhone 3g and not have to renew?

I have an Iphone now and want to get the new Iphone 3g. Can i still use my old sim card and old contract with the new phone and not have to start a new contract with at&t and pay again?

It doesnt look like that is possible. Here is a qoute from engadget "Do you plan on upgrading your now-obsolete iPhone on July 11th? Great—good for you big spender. Here's the skinny. AT&T informed us that anyone who bought an iPhone after May 27th will be able to swap out their handset with no additional charges for an iPhone 3G. What about everyone else? If you signed a 2-year contract with AT&T when the iPhone came out (which you pretty much had to), you'll have to sign another new 2-year contract to score a new iPhone 3G. The good news is that AT&T will allow you to overwrite your old contract with your new contract. In other words, you're just locked into another 2 years, not 3."

  • HT5622 When my daughter got her first iphone we set it up with my email address, she now has her own email & new iphone.  I want to use my email address for my icloud, can I delete the content  from the icloud account and continue to use my email?

When my daughter got her first iphone we set it up with my email address, she now has her own email & new iphone.  I want to use my email address for my icloud, can I delete the content from the icloud account and continue to use my email?

Yes, but be sure she is on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID before deleting anything.  Be sure there is nothing that you want to keep on your device too.  When you delete the data from iCloud it will be deleted from all devices signed into the account.  Then you can delete the data from the existing account by doing the following:
To delete the contacts, go to iCloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
For Calendars, open the calendar on icloud.com, click Edit on the bottom left, then tap the minus sign to the right of each calendar to delete it.
For Notes, open notes on icloud.com, click on each note on the left, then click Delete at the top to delete it.
For Reminders, open reminders on icloud.com, click on each reminder and press your Delete key to delete it.
For Mail, open your mail on icloud.com, click each folder on the left (such as your inbox), click on a single message to the right, press Control-A on your keyboard to select them all, then press your Delete key.  Repeat this for each of your mail folders except Trash.  When finished, click on the actions (gear-shaped) icon on the bottom left and select Empty Trash.
If you also want to delete your iCloud backups you can go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage on your device, tap the name of your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.

  • Hi - I've brought the new iphone 5 but can't download my music from my itunes account even though I have the latest version (10.7). All i can see is that my account is not showing the iphone 5 as a 'managed device' and i dont know how to get this added ?

Hi - I've brought my iphone 5 but cant seem to download my music from my itunes account onto it. I've downloaded the latest version of itunes as i heard this could be a problem but still no joy. The phone tries to sync when i plug it all in to the pc and even has the capacity bar showing about 12gb of audio but there is still nothing downloaded onto the phone.
The only thing i can see that might be causing the problem is that when i go into my itunes account it doesn't show that the iphone 5 is an option is the 'managed device' section but i dont know how i can add the new iphone 5 to this....
Can anyone please advise me on what to do ?
    Many thanks !

You can have one icloud account and a different itunes account on the phone. I have my icloud account and a shared itunes account. He does not have to use the new icloud account as is ID in itunes and app store. He can keep using the old one.

    Hey there rmflint,
It sounds like you are wanting to update the Apps that were synced over from your computer to your new iPhone 5s. If you are clicking Updates in the App Store in the bottom right corner, would you mind clarifying what happens when you are trying to update them?
