Can the new Power Mac (late 2013) boot up in OS X 10.6.7?

I am planning on buying the new "trashcan" Power Mac but I'm wondering if that machine will boot up from an external drive running OS X 10.6.7?  Although I currently use the most up to date operating system (10.9.1) I have some older software that I need to use, from time to time, like Mac The Ripper, Appleworks, some old 80s video games, etc. and I sure appreciate being able to boot up in the old operating system to use that software.  I'd hate to lose the ability to do that.  Anybody?

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295#ROSETTALION
is a tip that may help in your migration, as 10.6 server will still work with Rosetta and old Mac OS X PowerPC software that doesn't require special drivers and will hopefully work with the Mac Pro in question.   I would enquire in the Mac Pro forum to see if anyone has tried it on the new Mac Pro.
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
will help in the overall migration.
If you can't get confirmation that 10.6 server works on the new Mac Pro, getting a pre-July 20, 2011 Mac Pro is probably a better idea, as then you can at least ask AppleCare for the original discs of 10.6 to run on the Mac Pro.  If it is pre-August 28, 2009, any retail installer of 10.6 will work.

  • Do the new Power Mac G5s come with a system disc?

I ordered some new Power Mac G5s and was wondering if they come with a system disc? I like to wipe the drives clean and do my own clean install (sorry, nothing against ya Apple, I just feel better doing it myself) but I heard they don't come with a system disc and was wondering if that's true. I also ordered a Power Mac Server and was told the same thing.

    Hello there!
A couple of quick questions if I may:
Where are you getting "new" Power Mac G5s from?  Are these new to you or new in the box?  The reason I ask is since the G5 hasn't been in production for several years, I would *love* to get a "new in the box" one!  If you are getting a new Mac Pro, then they are currently shipping and here is a link to the Apple Store that shows what comes in the box:
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro
And if the G5 comes "new in the box", then there should be Apple system restore disks in the box, so you can wipe and re-install to your heart's content, however you won't be able to run 10.7 Lion.  The PowerMac G5 stops at 10.5.8 Leopard.
    Cheers!

  • Can you run 10.8.5 on the new MacBookPro11,1 (Late 2013) laptop?

My company is getting new stock of MacBooks, and I need to know if it will still run 10.8.5?  I've got some apps in our build that are not yet working on 10.9, and it would be a shame if we wouldn't be able to use the new hardware.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X 10.8.5 hasn't got the drivers to run on new computers, so you can't use OS X 10.8.5 on a new MacBook Pro.
If you need OS X 10.8.5, you can buy Mid 2012 MacBooks Pro, which still come with OS X Mountain Lion. Then, when you want to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, you will be able to do it free of charge

  • Can the new Intel Mac Mini really run Win XP?

I have had my Mac Mini for almost two years now and i love it, i love it because i switched from Windows, but now i kind of miss Windows so i was going to buy a Windows PC but then i read somewhere that the new 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini can run Windows XP, so i have few questions if that is true...
    1. How well will Win XP run on the new 1.66 GHz Mini with 1 Gig of RAM?
    2. Which version of XP do i need to buy and where is the best place to buy it?
    3. I know this might be a dumb question since Windows Vista is not out yet but do you think i will be able to use Vista as well?
Vista requires 512 of RAM for the basics and 1 Gig of RAM for max performance.
That's all i have for now, thanks in advance.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Mac Mini 1.42 GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   It's small...?

    1) If ou run it with Boot Camp (i.e. in a dual-boot environment, rather than through virtualization), it will run as well as on a PC with 1 GB of RAM, a 1.66 Ghz Core Duo processor and GMA 950 integrated graphics (quite well, but unsuitable for recent 3D games).
    2) You need a standalone (non-OEM) version of Windows XP Home or Pro with SP2 included, any retail version of Windows XP should do. There are also workarounds that allow you to install other versions of Windows (like Windows XP Media Center).
    3) The Mini should be able to run Vista (some people have already installed Beta versions of Vista on Intel Minis) but how well, I don't know.
BTW Boot Camp is actually Beta software, and its license ends in February 2007 (or earlier if Leopard is released before then).
If you need more information, you can also ask in the Boot Camp forum.

  • Can the new intel Mac's run Panther?

    Thanks,
    SP

Firmware differences were the most "concrete" reasons why downgrading PPC-Tiger machines to Panther was not supported.
Actually it is more often the lack of drivers for the newer hardware that prevent use of earlier versions of Mac OS X on more recent hardware, not any block in the firmware (though that may also be present, but mostly as a precaution rather than a limitation).
I wouldn't call PPC-Tiger and Intel-Tiger so "completely different" programs.
I would. Though they come from the same (or mostly the same) source code, they're complied for completely different processors. So the net result is that the two versions are totally different executable code. This is why Panther (or Jaguar, etc.) will not run on an Intel-based Mac; the earlier versions of Mac OS X are all complied for PowerPC processors and cannot boot on an Intel processor.

  • What years apple cinema display can I connect to the new 2012 mac mini?

I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display that I purchased in 2007. I currently have it connected to m7 2009 Mac Mini. Can I use it with the new 2012 Mac Mini? I am running the latest OS on my 2009 Mac Mini.  I want to upgrade my Mac Mini for more storage a nd the faster processor.

Yes.  You can connect it to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that comes with the new Mac Mini, or you can connect it to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

can i use a 2010 24 led screen with one of the new 2012 macs with thunderbolt technology?

Yes. Any standalone display which can be connected to a Mini DisplayPort, with or without an adapter, can be plugged into a Thunderbolt port without any additional adapters.

  • Can I use my old Macbook Pro Ram in the New Macbook Pro (late 2008)

I have 2, 2 gig DDR2 sticks of ram in my macbook pro. I wanted to know if they would work in the new macbook pro (late 2008)? I know the new one uses DDR3 - What would be the downside of using DDR2 in a DDR3 macbook? Would the graphics cards work to their potential? Thanks!

No. The DDR2 RAM in your older computer is not the same as the DDR3 RAM used in the new ones. There are significant differences between them not the least of which is pin count.

  • Transferred Elements 8 to new power mac and get 150:30 error message and told licensing has stopped.

How can I get Adobe Elements 8 activated on my new Power Mac?  Program has been transferred but I'm getting a 150:30 error message and told that my licensing has expired.

If you don't really mean a power mac, but rather a new mac, you can never transfer an installed copy of PSE. The first thing to try is running the uninstaller and then installing from scratch. That may very well not work, though, in which case you have a lot more work to do.

  • Can the new 2014 Mini (with Yosemite) be connected to three monitors?

Can the new Mac Mini drive 3 monitors simultaneously from the two mini displayports and the HDMI port?  When reading the specs I remember reading that it could drive 2 monitors via the mini displayports.  I'm wondering if it can also drive a third monitor thru the HDMI port at the same time.

No, natively the Min can't drive three monitor.
For a third monitot you need an addition adopter like:

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.
