Can the Palm pre...

Is there an app where I can record my voice and then set it to my ringtone? My friends phone does it and I think that would be fun to do. I doubt the palm pre can do it because it cant do all the simple things.
Is there a way to SAVE sound txt messages? my friend sent me a voice message but I could only play it I couldnt save it.
Can we set txt tones yet? In the past I read that the palm pre couldnt...
My friend tried to send me the message over blutooth.. he found my device. entered code 0000 for both phones but it said it failed... but yet thats how he got all of his songs on his phone from a different person.
his phone is just a cheapy prepared to the PRE so I better be able to do these simple things!!
thanks.

Text alerts can now with 1.3.1 os have assigned tones. From the messaging app, click the drop down menu at top left and choose preferences. They can be assigned there under ringtone. This does not change your call ringtone, just for text alerts.

I use to have a centro and you were able to set a special tone for you to identify if that was a text msg or a call coming through. Can you do this with the Palm Pre because I can;t find it?

Where do I need to make noise to? I have had nothing but problems with this thing. From waiting on activation over a 2 day period, to having to manually cut and copy my phone numbers from a csv file, that best buy told me would work without a glitch, into my google account. Now after 4 days I am more comfortable with the phone but am finding out how many things are problems.
    *wireless printing
*sync way too many contacts from unneeded accounts
    *lack of accessories and applications
*poor battery- even sitting overnight lost 1/2 its battery
*message tone - singular, unloud, not even audible while in a car
*I cant find any way to select text while typing, have to tap, delete, retype. but cant cut, copy and paste. No way to select stuff.
I know its a whole new OS, a brand new phone. But come on palm. Do more quality control and TESTING. Not just with geeks, give more to a bigger diversity of customers. Why sprint didnt pre release to exsisting customers to try out in comparison to their currently useless handsets, is unknown. But someone needed to chime in about TINY little things, like changing the message tone! That eventually will bring the rating and functionality of the handset and get a big thumbs down from users.

  • SSL Cert Setup on the Palm Pre

I am having issues setting up my companies email on the Palm Pre.  We use an SSL cert and for some reason I get Certificate Error. Is the time and date wrong.  I looked at many blogs with other people having this issue and they say a root cert needs to be put on the phone.  The only way it says to do this is to install the Microsoft Certificate Authority and then generate the cert that way.
Well, the issues that I am having is I have been generating my cert using the new-exchangecertificate -domainnames mydomain.domain.com, and I do multiples dns names.  This cert works fine on all my computers and all other cell phones.  When I put it on the pre I get the error above.  I read that this is an IIS root cert and the palm does not allow this.  I then installed the Certificate Authority and generated a cert and the pre worked fine, the only issue is the cert broke the rest of my external users connections.  I need the cert to have dns resolution addresses in it.  I found out how to get the Certificate Authority to have san:dns= domain.domain.com names.  But when I generate this cert and put it as my primary cert it then brakes the palm and my other systems.
How can I get the Certificate Authority to give me a cert with all the DNS names I need and work on the palm and all my other systems.
Any help is great and thanks in advance.

  • The wall adapter for the palm pre charger

can the wall adapter for charging the palm pre also be used with an ipod touch charge cord? both are usb ends that can plug into the wall adapter

Standard warning label caveat: You CAN use these chargers interchangeably as long as both devices use micro USB technology, and not mini USB. (Basically don't force the charger in the charging port.) However, it is recommended that you only use chargers and equipment designed for and that came with your device.

  • Does the Palm PRE support Subscription MP3 files such as Napster to Go or Rhapsody to Go?

Does the Palm PRE support Subscription MP3 files such as Napster to Go or Rhapsody to Go?
I know the Palm Centro (my current phone) does, however I just wonder that with the Amazon MP3 store so integrated with the PRE that Palm/Sprint might not allow subscription MP3 because it may take away from Amazon MP3 sales. PLEASEEEEEEEEE does anyone have a solid confirmation that the PRE will support Napster to go??

Can the new pre installed apps in iPad 2. Like garage band, iMovie be sync back to i tune, and then sync these new apps from ipad2 to the old iPad 1?

    GB and iMovie pre installed?
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/built-in-apps/
Click: Browser All Built In Apps
iMovie and GB must be purchased.
If you have installed GB and iMovie on the iPad 1 and synced using iTunes, just sync the those apps to the newer iPad with iTunes. No re purchase necessary with the same iTunes account.

  • Flash for the Palm Pre

Now that flash is on general release where do I go to download the Palm Pre version?

It seems any post or forum that Adobe doesn't like gets "frozen" out when discussing Flash for the Palm Pre.  The missing Palm Pre Flash and the "shift of blame" by Adobe to Palm has been a common theme  (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/2748422#2748422 as an example) is becoming tiresome.
Yet if you ask Palm they tell you its nothing to do with them, why would it be?  That is such a silly dead-end statement that I suspect Adobe are far to embarrassed by what's actually happened.  If they want to prove me wrong then how about they release the flash to me rather than Palm?  LOL now, there's a novel idea!
I suspect this has something to do the popular rise of Android, an operating system for mobiles that was still in design when webOS for Palm Pre was already established.  It appears, and no one denies, that the demo on the Palm Pre, you know the one, the one that made us all go out and get the Palm instead of the iPhone, was an iphoney.
    We have been duped.
While much of the web relies on Adobe technology at the moment the end of their business cycle is in site, not just HTML 5, but sentiment in general.  The lack of respect, clarity, accountability and honesty in the main to blame.

  • Compressing for the Palm Pre

I was wondering if anyone knew what was the optimum codec to use for the Palm Pre. Is it basically an iPhone?

It uses H.264 so the iPhone presets should work on it.

Since updating to webOS 1.3.5, the connect and disconnect problems have mostly gone away!  Thank you Palm!
One minor complaint still with Bluetooth (if you are listening Palm):  The Nissan OEM kit supports up to 4 phones.  I paired my wife and kid's phones to the car, including my Pre.  When any other family member is in the car with me with their phone (non-Pre), my Pre will not connect to the car.  Their phones connect just fine even though my phone has been paired to the car to be the "primary" phone.  Only when I am by myself in the car will the Pre Bluetooth connect/disconnect work flawlessly.   Thanks again for getting us this far!

  • 1.4 slow down the palm pre?

I have seen a lot of slow down with my palm pre after the 1.4 update. The phone feels heavy, feels like its run slower, not as responsive as before, battery life is not logger it is sorter also all loading that the apps do now. Has this happen to you have you seen/feel like its slower?
I also have tried to reset it but it still feel the same. Palm may have made some errors with this update.

My battery life really stabilized and increased enough to get me through a work day after the last update. All my apps were running great and I was happy. I really, really wish I could undo 1.4!
Everything is slower to open, slow to respond to touch/swipes. Mine locked up while opening an app and rebooted itself last night. Later last night, I check my alarm settings for the morning (4 in total) before going to bed. They disappeared during the middle of the night! Luckily, I woke myself up in time for work.
I'd love it if they'd push some patches through soon, or allow you to roll back. I'd love to have the video and flash, but not at the cost of all these other glitches.

  • The Capabilities of the Palm Pre Camera...photos inside

All I can say is WOW. Palm nailed it with this camera. I can't get over its amazing all around performance. If somebody showed me these pics and told me they took them with a phone (smartphone or not), I would have a hard time believing it. Personally, I this is the best phone camera I have seen. Besides the 3megapixels, I'm not sure of the rest of the specs, but quite frankly I don't care as long as its taking these types of pictures. See for yourself.....

  • I need help being pushed over the Palm Pre Plus fence......

I posted this on another site, but didn't get much of a response.  Sorry I couldn't easily find this searching the forum and I hope this is posted in the right place.
The first time I touched the PPP it felt comfortable and after playing with it for a while, it seems like a great device.  My only concerns about the PPP are:
    1) The keyboard seems like it may take getting used to and I believe I saw an app for a virtual keyboard, but wanted to know how good the virtual keyboard app is and if there any alternatives out there since I really like the idea of 3 keyboard options.
    2) My second concern (which basically arose because the small keyboard and trying to type on it) is whether auto-correct/suggest is in the latest webOS update or are there any plans to include it in the near future or finally are there any good Palm apps that do it well.
BTW my company only allows certain phones and my second contender is the Samsung Omnia II, since the DROID has not been approved yet due to security issues.
Thank you for any tips, tricks and advice you can provide on pushing me over the PPP fence.

There is a free downloadable program called web os quick install.  Here you can find hundreds of free apps and "patches" that can change the appearance and operations of your pre.  You can get a great virtual keyboard and can also increase the amount of auto correct words; however, as stated above, it doe not included auto correct.  However, you can purchase several virtual keyboards that I believe do include auto correct.
The other responder is wrong, with all due respect, about the various keyboards not working will all apps.  One of the patches you can install (from web os quick install) will make the accelerometer work with almost all important apps like email, text, and many websites that can not normally be viewed in landscape.
I researched virtually every phone on the market for over a week.  I was also hesitant about making the change, but I am so happy I did.  The phone is amazing and I find every excuse I can to use it because it so fun to operate. Make the leap man.  The grass truly is greener on this side of the fence.

  • A Stylus Maybe for the Palm Pre...?

I don't suffer from fat fingers, but maybe and accessory stylus could be fashioned. Maybe a new back plate with integrated stylus could be sold for current Pres or included in future ones. A nice weighty, metal stylus; no light weight plastic stylus please.
I wouldn't mind the extra bump for a stylus if I find my self doing a lot of web surfing or document editing in a pinch.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

It's the screen technology itself.  It's capacitive which means when your finger touches the screen your finger holds a charge given out by the screen, then the screen processor / CPU calculates exactly where your finger is touching.  This technology allows for the multiple simultaneous touches that we see today on the iPhone and Pre, like the pinch and zoom gesture.
The screens that we're used to are actually LCD's (or similar technology) with an array of wires layed out horizontally and vertically over the LCD making a grid.  When any object comes and presses on the grid, it makes contact with one or more wires on each of the vertical and horizontal layout, causing electrical resistance that the CPU can then calculate to get your tap location.  Because the grid is making up the screen circuit it can't determine multiple screen locations at the same time (like when you press one location on your laptops touchpad, then another at the same time, your mouse moves as if you slid your finger across the pad).
So for a stylus, it will need to be able to hold a charge like your finger, as opposed to the plastic tip found on most styli (not sure right now how to pluralize stylus LoL).
Well, that clears up my vague understanding of these screens, thanks. Now, another person who knows more than me can make a stylus that holds a charge; after all, I can get a baloon to hold a charge and bend a stream of water (I refuse to rub a stylus on my head every time I want to tap the screen).  Where's Tesla when I need him?

  • I HATE THE PALM PRE!! NEVER BUY IT!!!

well what can i say..ive been having problems with this phone non stop since it came out. the speaker blew out on the phone 4 times already and i only use it for ringtones and my alarm and its set 2 from the highest sound setting.  the power button at the top broke off twice so i cant turn the screen off so i have to wait 30 seconds. the screen continously freezes.  when i slide it up, sometimes the backlight doesnt turn on and the screen is really dark for 10 seconds.  ive had a problem before where the phone got stuck when it was slid up. its slowly like seperating from the front and back, theres a gap there and constantly have to push it back together. everything is soooo slow on this phone. RIDICULOUS!!!!! this phone has NEVER been dropped, always in my case and babied.  terrible purchase. palm and sprint you just lost a 4 customers (me and my family) because of this phone and your lack of customer support. im so fed up with this.. here i come att and iphone
