Can the T61 w/ Adv. Mini Dock do dual-screen laptop screen + external monitor?

I am moving from a desktop to a laptop w/ docking station.
I want to be able to drop the T61 into the dock and go dual-screen with the lappy screen (usually holding outlook open) and say a 19" LCD. Is this possible?
Would the Intel X1300 support a 19" LCD res?
I am most likely going with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, but just in case I changed my mind.. I would like to know.

Yes - all the T61s here using the Advanced Mini-Dock (including mine) and they all support dual-screen.
We use 24" Monitors with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 32 Bit and it looks teriffic.
If you dock and undock a lot I'd recommend using the ThinkVantage Presentation Director to set up your screens.
I think the nVidia is worth it.

  • T60 with Adv Mini Dock and USB FP keyboard Windows7 Issue

I have been combing through these forums as well as others and I am unable to find anyone who has this issue.
This only happens under Windows 7.  I have installed all the Lenovo drivers included in the System Update as well as the Betas but never can solve this.
The problem occurs when I try to eject the T60 (8743) from the Adv Mini dock that has the USB Fingerprint Keyboard connected.  If I remove the keyboard before undocking it is fine and the machine undocks normally.
Other than this issue, Windows7 works quite well on this system.
    Thank you

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

FWIW, STAE129 is the current version TB adapter

STAE122 and STAE127 are older versions and
not the current model, though there may be stock of
these around.  As to whether this will solve your issue,
    I don't know.
Can I trick the Mac under Bootcamp as OS to use HDMI for the monitor? Dell officially says that the monitor can only accept 1900x1080 over HDMI, but some have fiddled wth different computers with custom settings that worked with some Monitors but mostly under Linux and to Dell 2711.
The MacMini HDMI port is hardware limited to 1980x1200.

can the mac osxlion usb jump drive be used after as a external drive for storing media files

If you are talking about the Lion install USB thumb drive sold by Apple then no it can't. it has some specail formatting that makes it show up as a DVD drive and is securely locked from any changes.
But I must ask why would you want to. That would destroy that drive and wipe out the Lion installer.
USB thumb drive can be bought for $8.

  • How do I make the DVD player play full screen in my external monitor instead of my laptop?

I just upgraded to Lion, and I have my laptop screen and my external monitor, and every time I tell my computer to play a DVD in full screen, it makes the full screen slide over from my giant external montior to my tiny laptop screen. How do I make it not do this? I would like to be able to watch my DVDs on the larger high-res monitor instead of my tiny laptop screen, but I can't seem to find the right preferences window or something.

With DVD player open, have you check the menu bar > Window > Show/Hide Controller?

  • T61 with a mini dock to large LCD display

I am in the process of building out a showroom for customer interface.  I do a lot of intense graphic renderings that I want to display in a larger format on the wall.  I am going to go with LCD technology but I need help figuring out how to push the signal from my lenovo mini-dock to the LCD.  I am talking issues like DVI-D to HDMI and what kind of obstacles I need to look out for.
    Any advise

I have never tried to use HDMI on my setup but I can say with certainty that the Quadro card on the laptop can easily output 1920x1600 through the pass-thru DVI on the advanced mini-dock.  If u want to go further with a 30" display, I am not sure.  However, u can get the advanced full dock, which supports an add-on for low profile PCI express cards, which should come in dual link flavor for 30"+ LCD's (unless your LCD does not require dual link, at which point, I'm not sure of the max output via DVI).  However, the advanced full dock only takes half height/low profile cards, which are exceedingly difficult to find if u are looking for a high end and high quality card.

What are the names of the ports in my MacBook Pro that I can plug an external monitor into?

You have Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort. If you know which external display you want or you already have it, look at the ports it has got and get a Mini DisplayPort adapter for it. There are Mini DisplayPort adapters for DVI, VGA and HDMI.
Most external displays have DVI, VGA or HDMI. If you can use HDMI, use it, because it will provide much better quality. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Mini DisplayPort adapters can be used with Thunderbolt

I??ve got a U400 which was equipped with the Intel graphic card and I??ve got an external LCD which I have connected to the U400 using the DVI-to-HDMI cable.
My U400 unit supports the HDMI and the LCD the DVI port.
I have received also the driver disk with my LCD and I have installed the software.
I have also update the Intel driver and used one from the Intel page.
Now I have the access to many different external resolutions and can choose it.

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • PB screen broken-using external monitor now-but can't see hardware test

Hi. I have a 15" PB (1.33GHz) that was recently dropped. The screen was decimated... unusable and can see maybe the far left 1" of the screen... the rest is 100% unusable. So currently I am using a 19" monitor. I was wondering a few things... Is it possible to somehow disable the screen in the computer? I removed it, but the PB nows thinks there are two VGA monitors hooked up (?)... so I put the screen back in and I just sleep it everytime I start up and wake it with an external mouse so I can set my resolution on my external 19" monitor. It's not a huge deal if there's no way to disable it so that I can just remove the thing and the powerbook can be my keyboard
Anyway, I also can not run the hardware test because the F7 key (to mirror) wont work with it. Anyone have an idea what I can do about this? Somehow force the G4 to recognize the external monitor in the hardware test mode?? I suspect some other problems with the G4... such as a bad ram slot (the lower one) - it doesn't recognize any ram sticks that I put in there. I've read that lots of others had this problem... and even though I have applecare, I suspect that Apple won't recognize this since it has been dropped.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I assume this is due to the fact that system detects your internal monitor as default one, and that is there where system sends main data. In order to force system send data to the external monitor, get a mouse and physical keyboard, close MB lid, and then press any key on the external keyboard.
when you get there, go to system preferences/display, and manually move the Apple upper bar to the external monitor, then choose mirror; ultimately, set optimal resolution.

  • Dual Display - Laptop screen won't wake up 50%+ of the time

My laptop is connected to an external monitor, with the monitor set as the primary display.
I put the laptop to sleep by closing the lid.
Often, when I open the lid the laptop screen will not turn on. Just the monitor, and then it acts as if it is a single display. The only way I've figured out how to fix this is to completely shut down the laptop and boot back up.
This started suddenly last month, right after changing jobs. The new job had an unknown amount of software installed (including MS Entourage) and the entire system encrypted by the new company's IT department. I don't know if these are related, but the coincidence is hard to ignore.
I also will occasionally not be able to fully wake the computer. I'll get a black screen and a mouse cursor but never get the log in prompt to bring it out of screen saver mode. This problem sometimes occurs with the above issue, but often they are separate. Though this also just started. (I suspect this second issue could just be performance problems with new software bogging down the system over several days). Although the same solution is to shut down the system. It's just that in this case, the only way to shut down is to force it with the power button.

I have a similar problem that just started recently. I've been using a dual monitor (Wacom Cintiq) since last Novemeber, and now at random times when I attempt to wake up the computer I get a black screen on both monitors. I know the computer is on because of the system beeps I generate while pressing the keys. The monitor just won't come on. Normally I thought the power light below the latch opening would cycle up and down, while asleep, but when this problem happens it is just on. When the lid is opened the light fades out. Computer is running, just no screen. The last time this happened I had to power it down. I've tried disconnecting the Wacom Cintiq monitor, the external keyboard and the Wacom tablet. No Luck.
