Can the UJ-875 replace a UJ-846?

Has anyone replaced the Matshita UJ-846 with the UJ-875? (and got good results!)
I'm one of the thousands frustrated owners of a "UJ-846 that doesn't read disks anymore".
Thanks a lot in advance.

What I need to know is if there´s any physical spec that would make this drive (UJ-875) not to work on intel iMacs?
Please, help.

its not detected in itunes nor in my computer
    however it is charging.
it is charging via adaptor as well
i have tried changing cables, uninstalling/reinstalling i tunes.... going to SERVICES.MSC and doing all settings..
done almost everyting under the sun.
called up apple helpline, they helped for 7 hours over phone but no joy
    what should i do now
can the ipod be replaced... i have taken it 4 years back

After four years they are not going to replace your device for free.
If you put it into disk mode and Windows doesn't detect it then either the cable is faulty, or the docking port. I've seen the port get clogged up with enough lint to prevent the a good electrical contact with one or more pins which is enough to prevent communications. This can be cleaned out with canned air or gently teased out with a thin sliver of plastic or cardboard. See Corrupt iPod classic for some info. on device diagnostics.

  • Ipod nano 2nd gen, 5 years old, has short battery life. Can the battery be replaced? If not, does apple have a replacement program? how much?

    Details:
5 year old 2nd Gen Ipod nano only works for an hour the most. Battery may be approaching end of life.
Can this still be replaced? if not, what are my options? Does apple have a replacement program?

Just would like to share with you, my experience with a friend's Nano with a smiliar problem
The battery level could be too low to boot up the OS of the iPod, which even may corrupted (if you see a folder icon).
The best way to fix it, is to connect it with different device other than your PC as it is likely not get charge at all, e.g.
    1. car charger
    2. ac charger
    3. ipod speaker dock system
    4. using firewire cable
    5. with a Mac computer
The key is to charge the battery level up to the minimum for you to put your Nano into disk mode

once you see the "tick" mark, connect it with a computer, and try to do a Restore for your iPod. In case you still do not manage to get your iPod to be recognized by a PC, I am afraid you have to connect it with a Mac, very likely it will allow you to do a Restore as I did last night

  • Can the iPad truly replace a "normal" computer yet?

My wife and I are looking to replace two computers. One is her Sony Vaio laptop, the other is my iMac G5. I mentioned to her that we could both get iPads, one for me and one for her and that it would really do everything we would need them to do. I know that the collective opinion is that tablets are the future of computing - proof being Apple releasing a 128GB iPad w/ Retina today. If I were to "start from scratch", as in, I don't have a PC with this content already on it that can be easily synched to the new iPads - I just have two iPads that I need to get my physical music albums onto as well as GBs of photos from my camera. Can you get you're own content to the iPad without the help of a traditional computer - be it laptop or desktop? Is there some sort of USB adapter for the new iPads that you can use to connect other devices to it for uploading content - like a external CD-ROM drive or a camera?

Great discussion, but I don't think anyone has addressed the true question. ddemuth78 isn't asking is it feasible, he's asking if it is even possible. He has already stated the iPad does everything he and his wife do with their computers. The question is, "is it yet physically possible to have an iPad be a single stand alone computer?"
There are two basic uses for a computer, creating content, and consuming content. As a content creator, I find the iPad nearly useless. However, as a content consumer, I find the iPad (or any well designed tablet) to be the best device for consuming. Obviously, if you have multiple monitors or need in depth file management tools, the iPad isnt the right tool for the job. But what if the iPad IS the right tool for every job you want your computer to do? Is it physically possible to have just an iPad without another "real" computer to connect it to? Someone else already mentioned, by adding a simple case with integrated keyboard you have resolved the main issue with any content creation, the virtual keyboard reduces everyone to "hunt and peck" mode. Alternatively, you could connect a Bluetooth wireless full keyboard as well so you can type on your lap. First issue resolved.
The biggest issue I see with having the iPad as your only computer is that it simply wasn't designed to be so. It was designed to be managed by syncing it to the main computer using a USB cable and iTunes as the management software. However, the reason the main question can even be asked is because eventually, once you've got the iPad set up the way you want it, and you've transferred your music (which largely lives on iCloud now for free with the advent of iTunes Match), and photos from the main computer (especially if you now use the iPad as your camera so no more transferring required), once you get to this point, you really don't need to connect to you computer any more. Or do you?
For the email, music, pictures, games, and video chat crowd, once you've got the iPad set up the way you want it, do you ever NEED to connect it to a computer again? THATS the question. Plus, is the question (or the answer) different for the owners of different generations of iPads (or other tablets).
My mother plays games, does email, browses, takes pics on a camera (iPad 0, no camera) and uploads them to various sites. Her Wintel machine is 15 YEARS OLD!!!!! She is an artistic person and hates the machine and all the boxes and wires.she loves the wireless iPad. Clearly, if she is going to continue to own a computer it's time to get a new one. It would be a MUCH more pleasant experience on a new computer, but she will still need to got to the computer to use it, and still have to look at the modem, router, and accompanying wires. Question, can she use the iPad wirelessly in the living room, using the HD flat screen TV as the monitor, the virtual keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard and the iPads touch screen for the mouse and NOT buy a new computer? The question isn't "is this the right thing for her?" It absolutely is. The question is, can the iPod successfully survive without being synced to a main computer ever again?"
The only reason this is even a question is because the iPad was never designed to do this. It may have been envisioned as being able to do this one day, that may well be its ultimate function, but as yet, it has not been designed to survive without the occasional syncing to a main computer. Keeping in mind the iPad is really just an iPhone without the phone. Even iPhone, until the current release of iPhone 5 was meant to sync to a computer. My understanding is that the new 5 can in fact live successfully without syncing to a computer - the market wanted it so Apple delivered. So, can the iPad currently do the same or is there still a generation or two to go before it gets there? Especially the iPad 0. Are there things that it simply needs to be synced to the computer for that would hamper its function as a stand alone device? I don't know. What I do know is that it was designed as a side car, as a piggyback unit, as an extension of your main computer to give you a consumption option other than sitting at that desk in that folded up shape.
My mother is asking, and I am investigating. It seems like it should be able to survive to on its own, without another computer, but it wasn't designed for that so I am loathe to tell her yet that it is OK.
Anyone got any absolute knowledge one way or another, or resources that can be used to get a definitive answer?
    Thanks.

Out-of-Warranty Service: If your iPod requires service for any other hardware failure that is determined by Apple to be repairable, Apple will service your iPod for the Out-of-Warranty Repair Service fee.
If you want to set up your iPod for the Out-of-warranty service, we recommend that you take your iPod to a local Apple Retail Store. Alternatively, you can contact Apple Technical Support.
If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

  • Can the apple stores replace a battery while you wait?

The battery on my MBA - late 2011, has lost it's ability to hold a good charge and I'm looking to replace the battery. If I go to an Apple Store, can they replace the battery while I wait or would it be shipped out for replacement the same as if I took it to a local authorized repair center?

So I was finally able to get through to the store, but they didn't provide any meaningful help - they can't tell me if they can replace the part without a consultation first.
It strikes me as odd, since I can give them the problem I'm having (need a new battery), the serial number (though AppleCare confirmed they have the parts at the store), so I would expect that they could tell me if I drop it off by X they can have the battery replaced the same day.
Honestly this is the first disappointing experience I've had trying to get Apple support for an issue on one of my systems.

  • Can the iPad realistically replace a Kindle?

    Hi Everyone,
I was looking for opinions and thoughts on the iPad being used to replace a dedicated eReader like the Kindle.  I have been a Kindle owner since early 2009 and take it with me everywhere.  It is portable and the free 3G and long battery life have worked very well for me.  I just recenlty picked up an iPad (2) and have found my new best friend for web surfing from the couch.  The iPad is a fantastic tool for web browsing as well as the few games I have played on it.  I have also installed several apps to aid in productivity and it is quickly becoming my new best "friend."  Unfortunatly it is cumbersome to carry both my iPad and my Kindle when I leave the house.  So, I am currently investigating using the iPad exclusivly for my eReader.  Has anyone here done this, or have an opinions on this idea?  From what I can tell, there are only 4 advantages to the Kindle compared to the iPad (as an eReader): Size, battery life, Free 3G (I have the WiFi iPad), and TTS for Kindle books.  The Size isn't that big a deal as I can do so much more on the iPad.  There is no contest when it comes to battery lfe, but the iPad typically lasts "long enough" so this too can be blown off.  Free 3G is a non-issue as no iPad has it for free, plus mine is WiFi only anyway.  I am considering activating my Personal HotSpot on my iPhone though..  Finally TTS, I can find nothing that compares to this (for the Kindle App) on the iPad.  However, I have not really used TTS on my Kindle either so I am not sure it is a deal breaker. Thanks in advance!
    Rich S.

    Friend
A very strong reason to dump Kindle is that it is not ePub3 compatible. Nothing from Amazon is ePub compatible, even though they now own Stanza which is a reader that supports ePub. ePub is the emerging global standard for displaying any published document in a screen reading format.
Those that are buying eBooks in PDF format are not well informed (notice I refrained from calling them MORONS).
The Apple iPad has one of the best ePub3 readers available today called iBooks, it was just updated to ePub3 about a week or two ago.
ePub is an open source protocol for displaying text on any screen instead of the printed page.
PDF is Portable Document Format and designed to print an exact page of the original printed page, you do not want that on a tablet or EReader and definitely not on a smart phone with its tiny screen.
ePub three is a very advanced ePub format that includes, video, audio, graphics, even the ability to run an app from within the document.
When you have an ePub book or magazine in iBooks you can annotate it, add notes, change the font on the fly, use the built in Dictionary, built in automatic concordance via search, external search of Wikipedia and Google to supplement what you are reading and much more.
You can tap and turn the screen Sepia so there is less white glare for easy on the eyes prolonged reading.
You can email your notes from within the book to others.
EPub also allows you to have active hypertext links to other parts of the document if the author included them to begin with.

  • Can the new ipad replace macbook air

I am a university engineer student, bought a windows laptop, a new ipad and an air 13 inch.
Currently run into financial problem, and thinking about selling my air.
I mainly use air when i am in class, read notes, sometimes browse the web when I get bored, and writing codes
Just wondering is air replaceble by ipad, havn't used my ipad much,

Only you can decide whether or not the iPad can replace the Air; it's not something we can tell you since we can't know what needs and preferences you have. Since you have both, you should be able to spend more time with the iPad and determine for yourself whether or not it would be an acceptable substitute for the Air.
    Regards.

  • Can the screen be replaced

I have an Classic Ipod but the screen (plasma) is shattered. Is there any way I can send it in to get it repaired and if so what is the pricing on that.
Also I have iCloud on my iPhone 4 that has my contacts saved and calender saved; I do not need my apps saved cause they can all be logged into. My iPhone tells me I have no memory left and I need to manage it and upgrade my memory because it will not back up anymore. I talked to someone before about this issue and asked if I could delete my prior back up if it will create enough room to save a new back up. When I click on delete back up it says all of my iCloud information will be deleted. Does this mean that the last back up will be deleted or all of my prior information from iCloud will be deleted.

  • Can the keyboard be replaced with a backlit keyboard?

I have a late 2010 MacBook Air with a plain keyboard.  Is it possible to have it replaced with a backlit keyboard?

The logicboard on the 2010 MacBook Airs do not have the requisite electical connectors and controls for the support of the keyboard of the 2011 style. As well, the keyboard/keys itself are different and would not mate with the case.
