Can the X6 autoconnect to Internet without prompts...
Hi
My wife has an X6 and loves it, except for the handling of Internet connections which she finds very annoying. However the phone is configured, it seems impossible to set it up so that connections are made to the Internet automatically without having to select an available connection from the list of options (e.g. home wifi, office wifi, 3G, etc). I can fully understand the reasoning for implementing the Internet manager this way but it does seem like a real pain in the a*s.
I have recently acquired an LG Swift running Android and the Internet connectivity experience on this phone is so good it almost makes my wife cry every time she stops to think about it ;-) On the Android phone I have set up a WiFi access point (for the home) and a 3G access point for the 3G network. I select WiFi as my preferred option (not the home network - just WiFi in general) and that's it - nothing else to ever select/choose/start/stop. If any WiFi connection is available, all applications use it for Internet access, if not they use the 3G connection. On my way home from work, email notifications arrive on my phone via 3G. Once I get inside the house they start arriving over WiFi - and I haven't even taken the phone out of my pocket. This seems like a perfectly sensible, logical way to handle the Internet connection. Can anybody please tell me if there is any way to approach this sort of functionality on the X6? Having to continually specify which connection to use every time the web browser is fired up would drive me insane - but that's what happens on the X6.
I've trawled through all the settings I can find, searched the web fruitlessly and torn my hair out trying to change the way it works. I have tried with the 3G access point placed in the Internet and WAP folders, I've played around with priorities for the access points, setting the Internet to be the default access point, setting the WiFi to connect automatically, setting WiFi to scan continually, and all combinations of settings I can think of. If somebody can just tell me it's possible I'm happy to go away and try playing with the settings again - it's just that I've reached a point where I don't think it *is* possible, so I'm close to giving up.
I should add that the phone manual (page 134) explains exactly how to do just this:
"To avoid selecting a single access point every time the device makes a network connection, you can create a group that contains various access points to connect to that network and define the order in which the access points are used. For example, you can add wireless LAN (WLAN) and packet data access points to an internet access point group, and use the group for browsing the web. If you give WLAN the highest priority, the device connects to the internet through WLAN, if available, and through a packet data connection if not."
so naturally this was the first thing I did but it doesn't make any difference - the prompt to select an available connection still appears.
If anybody can help I'll have a very happy wife - and probably be allowed to play golf every day for the next month :-)
Thanks in anticipation
Kev
Firstly, apologies for the length of the original post - I didn't realise how long it was until I viewed it on the phone at home! Looks tiny on my huge monitor at work.
Secondly, thanks for the prompt - I now have the browser set up so that it automatically connects to WiFi or 3G as required. This is definitely an improvement but not quite what I'm really after. This setting is application specific rather than generic across all Internet access on the phone. YouTube app connects automatically now too (I guess it is layered over the browser API which might explain this) but Facebook app still prompts for a connection (and there are no settings anywhere for this app). Also, I can't get Gmail app to switch between WiFi and 3G - it just stays with whichever the initial connection is made to (it's set to use the 'Internet' access point where the WiFi and 3G connections are listed in 1,2 priority).
Maybe the apps are just integrated better on Android and that's the way it is.
Thanks again
Kev

Can the 7970 interact with MeetingPlace without PhoneView?
Greetings!
I have a quick question regarding Cisco's MeetingPlace and PhoneView.
The phone types being used: Cisco 7970 series phone.
Call Manager: Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express Ver 8.0
I have read that the CUCME does not support MeetingPlace PhoneView. I understand that part.
Would this prevent us from dialing into and interacting with the MeetingPlace at another location?
For instance: We can dial into the MeetingPlace just fine. When the recording prompts us to make a selection however, our keyed selections are not detected.
Is the lack of MeetingPlace PhoneView on our CUCME the cause of this issue or is there something else I'm missing?
Thank you in advance! The only way to purchase from the iTunes Store is via iTunes, on a computer or iOS device, and it will automatically download your purchase immediately. You have a couple of options: you can go ahead and purchase on another computer that has iTunes and then just copy the purchases to your Vista system (via any normal means of file transfer), or if you're in the US, the new iTunes in the Cloud feature, currently in beta and so not completely reliable, would allow you to download the purchases again at some future time when you get your iTunes problems sorted out. I'd recommend the first option as the best solution for now (and the only solution if you're not in the US).

Can the iMac G5 be used without an internal drive?
I bought a used iMac G5 1.9GHz as a second computer for my wife. It was a steal but it also came with some issues. After spending a few days trying to install the OS without any luck I'm not sure what my options are. The Apple Hardware Test that comes on Tiger reports a Mass Storage Error. I've gotten 2 different ones with 2 different hardrives: 2STF/4/3: S-ATA Bus 0 - Master and 2STF/8/3: S-ATA Bus 0 - Master. However when I put both hardrives in a USB box and test them on my other mac, they both come out clean and error free.
While trying to install Leopard I get a little ways and then get a Kernel Panic - "You must restart your computer..." I'm suspecting the issue might be the HDD controller.
Can this computer be run without an internal HDD and only a firewire one? I was thinking of just removing the internal drive altogether and buying a firewire box. Is this possible?I opened it up for umpteenth time, unplugged the hardrive and it started beautifully. I think (visualize me typing with my fingers crossed) I've solved ALL my other problems as well. It no longer gives me kernal panic errors, firewire works consistently and I finally managed to get the OS installed.
I'm actually thinking that I can install a drive in there with a small firewire controller board I have (there is room for in up in the top corner). Take the SATA power cable, change the plug on it and wire it into the IDE drive and firewire controller then run a short fw cable through the bottom of the case, around the back and just plug it into the fw in the back. Then I wouldn't need to purchase a fw case.
Thanks for all the help. -
Can my history be accessed by other users on my laptop?

yes. as long as you dump "current history, cookies, download history, HTML5's persistent storage, and flash objects, etc... " (sorry Tim Snoots, it was easier to copy/paste the same info then type it again ) -
Can the ring volume be set without the system volume
I hope this isn't too daft but is it possible to set the ring volume separately from the system volume? I need to run my iPhone very quietly but do not want to miss incoming calls!
CheersYour volume switches work differently depending on what you are doing. You may get a readout above the "speaker" symbol that appears on the screen telling you what volume is being adjusted.
If you are not using anything, the volume switches adjust the ringer volume.
If you are playing music or video, they adjust the music/video volume.
If your headphones are plugged in, they adjust the headset volume.
If you are actually on a call, they adjust the earpiece volume or speakerphone volume, whichever you are using (without a readout).
If you are on a phone call using bluetooth, they adjust the bluetooth volume. -
Two EX90 devices can make video calls over Internet with No VCS-C and VCS-E
Dear Experts;
I have just started TelePresence and VCS 2 weeks before by going through cisco docs and videos and I had taken a risk of implementing the infrastructure elements.
We are now implementing Cisco Tele presence with VCS-C, VCS-E TMS,TCS,MCU and End points with Jabber in One setup.
and in another setup CUCM 10.5,UCCX 10.5 IM&P,Jabber with some 10 agents.
Now the question is In our same building in 2nd floor we have one EX90 and in 5th Floor one EX90 and over LAN we can make video calls using IP address.
In the same way is it possible to make a video call between 2 EX90 devices present in different location in the same city over Internet without the involvement of VCS-C and VCS-E.
Appreciate your valuable reply.
Regards
DebashisThe simple answer to that is NO! Where is the EX90 registered to at the moment? Is it on the VCS? or CUCM

I have macbook air partitioned 505/50 and running OSX and win 7 side by side as virtual machines using vm fusion. Can the partition size be changed without starting over?
Very helpful. I started with vm ware to create a pseudo drive but could not import win 7 over home network. mac has no immediate way to connect to network without adapter, and has no cdrom. So i used boot camp to create partition, then made a bootable win7 iso file on a memory stick using win 7 usb/cdrom download tool from microsoft, and rEFIT to get mac to boot from the mem stick into the dos partition. Then i ran vm fusion to import the win 7 partition as a virtual machine. OSx and win 7 run side by side.
Seems from what you say that sizing cannot be accomplished without deleting partition and starting over. If I start over and just run vm fusion to create he win7 virtual machine, not sure how I would bet the minimum win 7 os into the ac. Perhaps vm will boot from the mem stick using refit. Do you know? -
Can the iphone set a reminder based on things said in a phone conversation?
Today my wife was on a phone call with her mother and had to cut the call short so she said, "I'll call you back in a few minutes." About 15 minutes after hanging up a reminder went off on her phone (that she had not set) that said "Call back [mom's name]." She was totally surprised by it, but had forgotten to call her back, so it actually came in handy.
Are we imagining things, or can the iPhone actually create reminders without you knowing just based off of things said in a phone conversation? I know that neither of us had set that reminder manually, and we're the only ones in the house.Right, but in this case, she never activated Siri to set a reminder. She never set the reminder at all. She just said that she'd call her back in the phone conversation and then hung up. Then the reminder came.

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select ▹ Restart from the menu bar. -
How can I share the internet without any network distribution?
I am facing a problem of internet sharing.
I would like to share my connection from ethernet to airport,
however, when I chose the "internet sharing" box, safari failed to connect to the internet.
After removing the tick of the box, web browsing became normal again.
how can I share the internet without any network distribution?
thanks! You'd have to select in Sharing Preferences > Internet Sharing > Share your connection from ETHERNET, and to computers using AIRPORT.

What can the N800 do without an Internet Connectio...
The N800 appears to be a great Internet tool. But what can the N800 do without an Internet Connection? It appears dependent on the connection
In reading the User's Guide I am left wondering how much work can be accomplished when out of reach of the Internet???With computing so Internet-centric, the N800 sounds pretty good, but two of my most valued programs won't run on it...and I do not know if there is are Quicken-like, Excel-like, Word-like programs for it.
I am traveling to less-traveled places in China this summer and hope to use it for online, in-country air travel reservations...and Skype out phone calls home.
But beyond that, it's a geek-toy...aren't we allowed to have as many toys as we want...it's just that I like to be able to justify my toys -
I have both safari and chrome, because I'm used to chrome. The only extension I have is Google docs. I started getting green double underline hyperlinks to ads. How can I get rid of this without adding more junk to the computer? People suggest programs to do it, but how do I know they won't make it worse?
Is someone from Apple here and can answer?
Thanks! You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
Can the aTV read files from an iTunes library on my nas drive without my computer being on
I have my itunes library on a My Book Live nas drive that contains all of my digital movies and TV shows. I want to be able to watch my movies from the library without a computer running. I understand that Apple has chosen to chain you to the computer and your itunes account through Home Sharing but I can not see why they couldn't allow you to access a nas drive without a computer running because your aTV is tied to your itunes account also so why do they force you to run a computer 24/7 365 in order to access the files you have bought and paid for.
I have a love/hate for Apple because I love the quality of the products they make but I hate how they make all of the digital files you purchase only accessible through a computer running Home Sharing even though the files are not stored on the computer.
I have tried several things to get this to work without a computer but no luck. The only way I have found to be able to do this is to Jailbreak your aTV and install 3rd party software (which I don't want to do) that will allow you to by pass the computer and Home Sharing (which is dumber than ****) because that is all I want to do is eliminate the need of a computer running wasting electricity (I thought Apple was supposed to be an enviro friendly company, guess not). I am not trying to steal or give someone else my purchased movies and using the aTV and an internet connection they could still be able to tie your media to your itunes account so I just don't get there thinking, or lack of thinking I should say.
Is their a way to do this without Jailbreaking or modifying your aTV?
If not is Apple ever going to wake up and allow there customers to actually USE the media they purchase from them without Home Sharing and a computer running?_Skull wrote:

no it can't. you need itunes open and running -
I just bought an iTunes card and was eager to redeem it. My iPod prompted me to log in as usual, but when I put in the correct password it just kept prompting me again. I've tried putting in my password to log in but it won't allow me to get into my account, rather it just refreshes and prompts me, and I've been doing this about ten times before I gave up. My internet connection is fine and all else is running smoothly.
And no, it isn't the incorrect password. I have tried putting in an alternative password to check, before refreshing it said it was incorrect.
With the correct password it'll just keep prompting me over and over so I cannot get in. This is really annoying and I don't know what to do as this hasn't happened before.
If anyone knows what is going on please inform me.
(Also: I cannot sync my iPod into any computers at the moment. I lost the previous computer and if I synced it with the new one I would lose everything on it, and some information on there is dear to me such as photos and videos. That is if I had a choice - computers with iTunes don't seem to recognise it as an iPod device, rather a camera which I can't take anything off of.
This is another problem on its own, though.)Have you tried going to Settings>iTunes and App Stores (or just Store) and signing out and then signing in again?
